From the moment Bollywood actor <keyword id="6354583" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Salman-Khan">Salman Khan</keyword> was announced as the goodwill ambassador of India's contingent for the <keyword id="514564" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="2016-Rio-Olympics">2016 Rio Olympics</keyword>, Twitter was divided into two factions: Salman vs sports. 
 The <keyword id="59608" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Olympic-Association">Indian Olympic Association</keyword> (IOA), which invited brick-bats over its decision to appoint Salman, clarified that Salman was the biggest Bollywood star in the country and the key objective of bringing him on board was to draw maximum attention from the masses and popularizing Olympic sports in the country. 
 
However, sports enthusiasts voiced out their dissent over ignoring and not appointing legendary sportspersons as ambassadors and mocked Salman and IOA on Twitter. 
 The news did not go well even with the sporting personalities such as wrestler <keyword id="157783" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Yogeshwar-Dutt">Yogeshwar Dutt</keyword> and Milkha Singh. 
 
Dutt, who has qualified to represent India at the Olympics that will start in August, took to Twitter to voice his opinion, which was supported by sports lovers and denounced by Salman fans.

A war is raging on Twitter over Salman Khan’s appointment as the goodwill ambassador for 2016 Rio Olympics

You won’t see <keyword id="6354583" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Salman-Khan">Salman Khan</keyword> doing stunts and getting soft drink <keyword id="109079" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Thums-up">Thums Up</keyword> as Coca Cola dropped the Bollywood star as the brand ambassador of Thums Up. 
 Coca Cola is now in talks with <keyword id="106133" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ranveer-Singh">Ranveer Singh</keyword> as it wants someone young to represent its soft drink. 
 The beverages major broke the four year association with Salman Khan, saying Salman Khan was committed to an existing relationship with a daily TV show, which this year was to be sponsored by a brand that competes with the <keyword id="6385848" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Coca-Cola-India">Coca-Cola India</keyword> product portfolio. 
 
"In light of this, both parties have mutually decided not to renew the current contract," the joint statement by Salman Khan and the company said. 
 
A source said that the company is in talks with young star Ranveer Singh to replace Salman. 
 
The company's decision to not to renew the contract with the 50-year-old actor is more to do with the image of Coca Cola, which is seen as a young brand, the source said. 
 
"That explains why Coca Cola is talking to a much younger star like Ranveer Singh," the source added. 
 
Khan has been among the top celebrity endorsers reportedly charging Rs 5 crore per year per brand. Recently, he had courted controversy when he supported Pakistani artists saying "they were not terrorists" in the wake of a debate on whether they should be allowed to work in Indian movies after the Uri attack. 
 
Coca-Cola India had roped in Khan as its brand ambassador for the second time to endorse its Thums Up brand in October 2012 replacing another Bollywood star Akshay Kumar. He had earlier endorsed the brand in early 2000s. 
 
At that time, Coca-Cola India had also signed an agreement with Being Human, The Salman Khan Foundation, to jointly promote, conceive and execute charitable and social activities

New Delhi, Feb 26 () Smartphone brand realme on Wednesday said it has appointed Bollywood actor Salman Khan as its brand ambassador. Khan will endorse realme 6 and realme 6 Pro, the company said. "What makes Salman Khan the best choice for us it that he enjoys a massive appeal across various regions and demographic profiles of India," realme Vice President and India CEO Madhav Sheth said. Khan, on his association, said he strongly resonates with the company's ethos of 'Dare to Leap'. "The realme 6 series is stylish and edgy and I am sure it will find favour with consumers," he added. Positioned in the mid-range price segment, the new realme 6 series is slated for launch on March 5. The company, however, did not disclose the funding amount from Salman. The news came as Bengaluru-based telecommunication firm <keyword id="113830" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="OnMobile">OnMobile</keyword> led a $13 million (nearly ₹95 crore) funding round in Chingari on Thursday.
