 Nehwal, 29, has over 24 international titles to her name — including Olympics and Commonwealth games. Nehwal is one of India's most successful badminton players. The report comes days before the Delhi Vidhan Sabha Election, which will commence on February 8. She is now one of the many sports stars that BJP has managed to attract like Gautum Gambhir and Babita Phogat Former cricket player Gambhir joined the party in 2019. Apart from being a star campaigner, he is the MP of East Delhi constituency. Female wrestler Babita Phogat also joined the BJP right before the last general election. She contested elections from Dadri constituency and lost. On January 10, BJP announced its 15-member election committee constituting the president Manoj Tiwari and all the MPs in the state including Vijay Goel and Satish Upadhyay. This is the first time that the national capital is going to polls after the Lok Sabha elections. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP bagged all the seats in Delhi. 2. Although her parents were professional volleyball players, Pusarla was more interested in Badminton, which is started playing at 8 years old. She was a huge fan of Pullela Gopichand, who won the 2001 All England Open Badminton Championship by defeating Chen Hong. 
 3. She learnt the basics of the sport from <keyword id="632053" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mehboob-Ali">Mehboob Ali</keyword> and used to practice at the badminton courts of Indian Railway Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications in Secunderabad. She would travel 56 kms from her residence to practice every day and always had the dream to become an ace badminton player. 
 
4. Later on, she joined Pullela Gopichand’s badminton academy. She won the 5th Servo All India ranking championship in doubles for under 10 years category, singles title at the Ambuja Cement All India ranking and under-14 team gold medal at the 51st National School Games in India, apart from several other national level tournaments. 
 
5. The 21 year old player made India proud at international level when she won Asia Youth Under 19 Championship, beating Japanese player Nozomi Okuhara (the same one she defeated yesterday to enter Olympic's finals), and also stunned the world when she beat London 2012 Olympics gold medallist Li Xuerui of China in Li Ning China Masters Super Series tournament. In January this year, Sindhu again made the country proud by winning Malaysia Masters Grand Prix Gold women's single title. 
 
6. The badminton champion currently ranks 10th in the world and was also awarded Arjuna Award in 2013. In March 2015, P.V. Sindhu became the youngest recipient of the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honour.

Dream on:The inspiring stories of  five people who've made it big

Hangzhou, A daily wage labourer's son from an impoverished village in Uttar Pradesh, <keyword id="84384" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="asian-games" source="Orion">Asian Games</keyword> bronze medallist race walker <keyword id="12117720" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ram-baboo" source="Orion">Ram Baboo</keyword>'s journey from penury to fame is a fascinating story of a strong-willed man making his own destiny. Baboo, who won a 35km race walk mixed team bronze medal in the Asian Games along with Manju Rani, worked as a waiter to self-finance his athletics training and joined his father in road construction under MGNREGA scheme during the COVID-19 lockdown, as his family was hard-pressed. "I have done everything possible in my life so far, from working as a waiter in Varanasi to digging up pits along with my father for road construction under MGNREGA scheme at our village," the 24-year-old Baboo told PTI in an interview. "It's about determination and focus on your goal. If you are determined to achieve, you will find ways to reach your goal. That is what I did." Baboo's father works as manual labourer at Behura village at UP's Sonbhadra district, earning Rs 3000 to 3500 per month which is not enough to run a family of six. Baboo is the only son while he has three sisters. His mother is a homemaker and sometimes helps her husband in his work. "We don't have any land and my father is a labourer. His work is seasonal. During paddy season, he will have more work but in other months his income is less. So, I need to do all these things to realise my dream," he said. "I was not good at studies and not interested also and so I wanted to make a career in sports." Due to his mother's insistence, Baboo took the entrance examination for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) near his home and got selected. He was admitted to class VI. Baboo found it tough to follow what was being taught at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and he began to lose interest in studies. Two years into the JNV stint, something made him decide on his future course of action towards his goal -- the 2012 Olympics -- where India won six medals. "I was in class VII then and I watched at my school hostel television the likes of Mary Kom, Saina Nehwal, Sushil Kumar and Gagan Narang winning medals. The stories also came out in newspaper front pages the next day, and I read all of them. "In fact, I kept cuttings of the newspaper articles and photos of the 2012 Olympics medal winners and kept them in my folder." When he was at the JNV, he played all sports, including football, and he found out that he did not get easily tired even after a lot of running, unlike the other students. That was when he decided he would do long distance running. He initially ran marathons, 10000m and 5000m but developed knee pain. On the advice of local coach Pramod Yadav, he later shifted to race walking which does not put too much pressure on his knees. Baboo might have been born to semi-illiterate parents but he used social media to his advantage. "I opened a facebook account and joined several FB groups relating to fitness and long distance running to find out who can help me in my endeavour." In 2017, when he was around 17 years old, Baboo left for Varanasi where there is a proper athletics stadium and there he got in touch with coach Chandrabahan Yadav. He took a rented house at Rs 1500 a month. His parents sent him a small amount of money and so he worked part-time as a waiter for one month. "I got Rs 3000 per month for working as a waiter but they made me work till midnight and even at 1am. I had to get up at 4am for training at the stadium. It was very difficult for me. People did not respect me and misbehaved with me. So I left Varanasi and returned home." In 2019, Baboo was able to convince a coach at Bhopal SAI Centre to take him under his wings. He then competed in the 50km event at the National Race Walk Championships in February 2020, just before the nation-wide COVID-19 lockdown, and finished fourth. During the lockdown, the Bhopal SAI Centre was shut and Baboo returned home. His parents were finding it difficult to get work to survive. "Luckily, we got work under the MGNREGA scheme and I helped my father in digging pits in road construction work. One person would get Rs 300 to 400 per day depending on the amount of work," he said. After working for one and a half months under the MGNREGA scheme, Baboo became restless, and he left for Bhopal again. In February 2021, he won a 50km race walk silver medal in the National Race Walk Championships and that paved the way for his entry into the Army Sports Institute in Pune with the help of coach Basant Rana. After the World Athletics decided to remove the 50km event from its programme, Baboo shifted to 35km event and won gold in the National Open Championships in September 2021, and a few months later, he was called to the national camp in Bengaluru. After winning gold in 35km at the National Games last year with national record time, Baboo got a job in the Army, and he is a havildar now. "My age at that time was 11 months more than that in the eligibility criteria but I got exemption after winning the National Games gold. I am currently under probation till next month and I am getting around Rs 10000, which is the basic pay. "After this, I will get full salary and I will be able to look after my parents properly." Baboo also said that he will shift to 20km race walk from next season as the mixed team event is unpredictable because the combined timing of male and female competitors of a country is taken into consideration for medal. "You never know, my colleague (woman race walker) may not be able to do well on a particular day, she may be sick but still taking part or she may be disqualified during the competition. All these are not in my hands. "So, I am shifting to a 20km event from next year."

Kamal Hassan, who made his electoral debut this Lok Sabha election, as also been invited to the event despite being known for his opposition to Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Other Bollywood celebrities like Kangana Ranaut, Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Karan Johar have been extended invitation but confirmation of attendance is yet to come in. Aside from Ambani, industry leaders like Gautam Adani, Ratan Tata and Ajay Piramal have also been invited to attend alongside foreign players like Bill Gates and John Chambers. Adani and Ambani have been two of the key beneficiaries of the Modi regime. They’ve reportedly been seen accompanying the Prime Minister on his foreign trips during his last tenure, signing 18 deals in 16 countries between the both of them. Former crickets, Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath and Rahul Dravid, will also present at the event despite the ICC World Cup kicking off today afternoon. Among Indian Politicians Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is at #2 with 3.5 million engagements, UP CM Yogi Adityanath and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were 3rd and 4th in the Indian Politicians engagement rankings. Surprising inclusions in the top 10 among politicians were BJP Spokesperson Sambit Patra at #8 who clocked a 1.1 million engagements; Dr Kumar Vishwas at #5 who got 1.2 million engagements. Sonu Sood’s humanitarian work during the pandemic saw huge resonance on Twitter where even at a Twitter following of a tenth of super star Shah Rukh Khan (Sonu Sood’s 4.6 million followers to SRK’s 41.3 million followers) he topped Twitter engagement among Bollywood Stars with a phenomenal 2.4 million engagements. The Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan was at #2 with 7.3 lakh engagements. Akshay Kumar with 6.72 lakh engagements was at #3, and Anupam Kher with 4.74 lakh engagements was at #4. Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji with 49K engagements is at #5, Biocon’s Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw with 41K engagements at #6, Marico’s Harsh Mariwala with 24K engagements is at #7, Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma with 19K engagements at #8 and Chairman of JSPL and former MP, Naveen Jindal with 16K engagements is at #9. Google’s Global CEO Sundar Pichai with 15K engagements is at #10. Aakash Chopra, now a commentator is also hugely popular and ranks #4 with over 9.65 lakh engagements on Twitter in October. Perennial favourite Mahendra Singh Dhoni was completely inactive on Twitter in October despite more than 8.1 million followers. Among Indian sports persons, outside of cricket, Olympic medallist and pro-boxer Vijendra Singh tops with 4.27 lakh engagements. Perhaps the India’s best kept secret in sports is veteran pistol shooter, coach and sports enthusiast 88-year old Dadi Chandro Tomar, better known as ‘Shooter Dadi’ from Baghpat, UP. Since learning to shoot when she was well into her sixties she has attained national fame as an accomplished shooter having won more than 30 national championships. She was at #2 in the non-cricket sports category with a phenomenal 2.84 lakh engagements leaving superstars like Saina Nehwal, Babita Phogat and Jwala Gutta behind! In the intensively competitive Journalists category, News Nation’s Deepak Chaurasia topped Twitter engagement with a whopping 1.88 million engagements. Aaj Tak’s Rohit Sardana was at #2 with 1.1 million engagement followed by Sushant Sinha with 1.05 million engagements. Veteran journalist and India Today’s Consulting Editor Rajdeep Sardesai was at # 8 wit6 6.6 lakh engagements and Rana Ayyub was at #6 with 7.6 lakh engagements. In other categories, Comedians and Start-up founders made their mark. Among comedians, Kunal Kamra topped impressively with 1.1 million engagements, followed by Ashish Chanchlani at #2 with 4.92 lakh engagements, Vir Das at #3 with 3.2 lakh engagements, Atul Khatri at #4 with 2.21 lakh engagements and Amit Bhadana with 1.1 lakh engagements at #5.
