(Photo source: <a href="https://images.news18.com/ibnlive/uploads/2016/09/saarc.jpg">News18</a>) <ul><li>An Indian diplomat, Shubham Singh, walked out on the <keyword id="8470" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="SAARC">SAARC</keyword> summit hosted by Islamabad in protest to their Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (<keyword id="44062" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="PoK">PoK</keyword>) minister being present at the event. </li><li>Not only was the PoK minister for <keyword id="3001" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pakistan">Pakistan</keyword> present, but was asked to come up to the dias to address rest of the committee, according to a Times of <keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> report. </li><li>India, as a policy, has refrained from acknowledging the authority of any ministers appointed by Pakistan in the disputed territory.</li></ul> An official of the Indian High Commission in Pakistan, Shubham Singh, walked out during a South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) meeting in Islamabad on Sunday as per the <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/pok-minister-at-saarc-meet-india-walks-out/articleshow/67018010.cms">Times of India</a>. His actions were registered as a sign of protest over the presence of Pakistan’s minister for Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), Muhammad Saeed, at the event. PoK has been a hot-button issue between India and Pakistan due to its strategic importance to both nations. And never before, at least during a SAARC summit, has the PoK minister been invited to attend the negotiations since its underlying mission is to achieve regional cooperation and the PoK issue is in direct contradiction of that directive. Singh reportedly left the meeting as soon as Saeed was invited to speak at the dais during the event’s Chambers of Commerce and Industry meeting. The doom of SAARC? Prior to this, the most recent incident where Pakistan reportedly tried to ‘legitimise’ PoK in the eyes of the international community was when Pakistan’s new Prime Minister, Imran Khan, was sworn in. India maintains that Kashmir is an integral part of the country and doesn’t recognise the authority of a ‘minister’ for the people in PoK. This SAARC meeting was the first to be initiated in a long time. In 2016, India pulled out of the 19th SAARC summit that was also supposed to hosted by Islamabad in retaliation of the terrorist attack in Uri on an Indian Army base. After India pulled out, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Afghanistan also pulled out <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/world/neighbours/story/uri-terror-attack-now-bangladesh-slams-pakistan-terms-india-friend-since-1971-342238-2016-09-21">stating</a> that, “We are against terror, against terrorist country and against any country that supports terror.” There have been no subsequent SAARC summits since then. Pakistan has been accused of repeatedly trying to derail international negotiations by bringing up the issue of PoK during international summits, especially those presided over by the United Nations. India’s stance has been that while it too agrees with the gravitas of the situation, its repeated resurgence on international platforms undercuts a lot of other important policy decisions that have be addressed.

Indian diplomat walks out during SAARC summit, takes offence to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir minister’s presence

The premier technological education institutes, <keyword id="55119" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Institute-of-Technology">Indian Institute of Technology</keyword> (IIT) is going international. No not by expanding the campuses but inviting foreign nationals to be a part of the programmes. As planned, IITs will be holding entrance examinations outside India and there would be a 10% additional seats to accommodate foreign students. 
 
"Foreign candidates will have to qualify the JEE advanced examination for an IIT seat. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) for entry to MTech courses will be held in these six countries as well," an official informed the Economic Times. Foreign candidates, however, will not have to take the JEE main examination. 
 
The official clarified that the there would be no decrease in the number of the seats for Indian students. "The 10% intake is in addition to the existing seats available in each of the 23 IITs,” he added. 
 Also, 20,000 more candidates will be eligible to write the exam after clearing JEE main, thus taking the total number to 2,20,000. The examination will be held in six countries outside India - Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, UAE, Nepal and <keyword id="6356662" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Singapore">Singapore</keyword>. The number of foreign students can't exceed 10% of the total seats in each course offered by the IITs and ISM-Dhanbad, as per the news report on the ET. There is no quota in this category. Also the cut-off for the aggregate marks in Class XII for SC and ST candidates has been reduced from 70% to 65% in JEE advanced 2017. 
 
Increase in fees Candidates who register for entrance exams after due date would be allowed to fill up the forms after paying a late fee of Rs 500. There has been an increase in registration fee from Rs 1,200 from Rs 1,000 for girls and reserved category students and to Rs 2,400 from Rs 2,000 for others. Students coming from <keyword id="8470" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="SAARC">SAARC</keyword> countries will need to pay $135 (Rs 9000) and those from the other countries would pay $270 (Rs 18000).

Deepak Bhawnani, CEO at Alea Consulting said: "Companies, large and small, will be impacted due to ramifications of work from home, as this will lead to cyber security risk concerns. These emails and messages entice users to open malicious attachments by offering more information related to the COVID-19 situation but contain malicious files masked under the guise of links, pdf, mp4 or docx files.a With employees taking to work-from-home, cyber security threat multiplies, says Debasish Mukherjee, VP, Regional Sales APAC at SonicWall. "These are exactly the times when hackers get creative with their malicious intent of hacking into devices and stealing data," Mukherjee said. He noted that while caution is being exercised during this epidemic, there is a group of opportunistic cyber-criminals who have been preying on this fear by developing malicious links and apps to hack devices and steal data. From creating malicious links to developing otherwise unsuspecting apps, the hackers of the digital age are getting creative in executing their attacks. Bhasin of Palo Alto Networks was of the view that employers need to prepare employees who are unaccustomed to remote working to navigatethe challenges involved. This can be done through an educational framework to teach staff how to identify and avoid risks, as well as outline the clear procedures to follow in case of a cyber security incident, he added. Among other precautionary measures, he said that sensitive systems and data should also be restricted where possible, with access reviewed and granted to essential teams only. It should also be ascertained that workdevices encrypt data at rest and are able to protect data on the device if it is lost or stolen. Michael Sentonas, Global CTO of CrowdStrike said that crisis management and incident response plans need to be executable by aremote workforce. "A cyber incident that occurs when an organization is already operating outside of normal conditions has a greater potential to spiral out of control," he said. He added that effective remote collaboration tools -- including out-of-band conference bridges, messaging platforms and productivity applications -- can allow a dispersed team to create a "virtual war room" from which to manage response efforts. "At this moment, there is a need for the cyber security industry to be more dynamic and responsive than ever before," said TAC Security Founder Trishneet Arora. Best video calling apps for all those forced to work from home

<keyword id="6391015" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Finance-Minister-Arun-Jaitley">Finance Minister Arun Jaitley</keyword> would be presenting his third budget at a time when the <keyword id="47890" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="global-economy">global economy</keyword> is undergoing severe stress. China has slowed down, the North Korean missile tests and the South China seas dispute has escalated tensions in the Asia Pacific region. 
 
Europe has been hustled from one major identity crisis to another with the refugees adding a new dimension coupled with the credible threat of major terrorist attacks across Europe. 
 
Also, Russia believes that the US and its allies are pushing for a new Cold War. 
 
All these factors have dampened prospects of an early recovery of the global economy. 
 
Many see the stage set for India to finally emerge as the rising star because of its GDP growth rates, a gung-ho PM and signs of relative calm in an otherwise volatile global environment. Despite this, India Inc appears to be viewing the forthcoming budget with restraint, largely because the previous two budgets were disappointing. But more importantly, the prevailing perception that the government is high on promises but falls short of delivery has tempered expectations. 
 
As regards the feel-good factor that the 7.4 per cent GDP growth rates ought to have triggered, certain obvious facts are significantly confronting. 
 
First, no one seems to be feeling the positive effects of growth. The price of everyday food items has sky-rocketed. Second, farmer suicides continue unabated. Depressed rural demand has exacerbated inequalities vis-à-vis urban India. At another level, the previous budget significantly reduced allocations in the social sector, especially education, housing and health, which has had its multiplier effect. And finally, for the past four years, corporate India has shown a net decline in profits. 
 
These have serious foreign policy implications. After all, foreign policy is the creation of a brand. When the Prime Minister surprised domestic and international interlocutors with his special interest in foreign policy, his affable charm won friends and helped establish personal equations. He promised a new and open India. India’s brand value shot up globally. Brands need to be nurtured and nourished. If they are not, they suffer damage. 
 
The Prime Minister announced a series of new programmes, such as, Swachh Bharat, Digital India, Make in India, Smart India, Skilling India, etc. Each of these had a positive resonance in terms of public perception but were not accompanied by a clear road map. 
 
In the case of Make in India, the legal framework continues to remain fuzzy. Consequently, these programmes have failed to excite global investors and are likely to remain elusive unless there is clarity and transparency on tax laws, a clear intellectual property regime, the ease of doing business, a fast-track dispute settlement regime, simplified customs procedures, a strong enforcement system against corruption etc. 
None of these are likely to materialize overnight because they are built on vested interests, many of whom enjoy strong political patronage. This will damage Brand India. 
 
Similarly, the Prime Minister’s commitment to Central Asian Republics, SAARC countries and to Africa, in particular, for developmental assistance was warmly welcomed. How quickly these are translated into action would require substantial financial outlay and a plan for the early implementation of projects. Slippage would discredit the Prime Minister’s assurances and damage Brand India. 
 
Unless the budgetary exercise is rooted in promises made, the third budget would go the way of the earlier two. Unfortunately, this time around, given the Prime Minister’s multiple promises on the foreign policy front, it would also seriously dent India’s credibility.

Foreign policy expectations from Budget 2016-17

The rise in affordable smartphones, better data network have contributed to a fantastic thing. The Internprotocol (IP) traffic in India will rise by 4 times between 2014 and 2019 at a pace of 33 % annually. 
 The study conducted by <keyword id="6390344" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cisco">Cisco</keyword> shows the average fixed broadband speed in India growing 2.9-fold to 12 Mbps in 2019 from 4.0 Mbps in 2014. The number of networked devices is expected to increase to 1.6 billion from 1.1 billion in the same period. 
 "Collectively, these variables are expected to help IP traffic in India grow at a compound annual growth rate (<keyword id="107168" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="CAGR">CAGR</keyword>) of 33 per cent - as against a corresponding global CAGR of 23 per cent," the statement added. 
 "We are clearly headed towards a new era in Internet communications as the Internet of Everything (IoE) gains momentum, with M2M connections predicted to triple, reaching 10.5 billion by 2019," Cisco (India and SAARC) <keyword id="24973" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="managing-director">Managing Director</keyword> (Global Service Provider Business) <keyword id="72575" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sanjay-Kaul">Sanjay Kaul</keyword> told the news agnecy PTI. 
 
The report also says that mobile data traffic is expected to grow 67 % and reach 1.1 exabytes per month in 2019, up from 88 petabytes per month in 2014. 
 
"India's mobile share was 9 per cent of the total IP traffic in 2014, which will be 28 per cent in 2019," it predicted. 
 "We look forward to tracking the IoE <keyword id="34412" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="economy">economy</keyword> in coming years and its impact on healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, retail, transportation and other key industries," Kaul said. 
 
The news report by PTI says, smartphones will account for 40 % (651.4 million) of all networked devices in 2019 compared to 13 % (139.8 million) in 2014, and 74 per cent of all networked devices will be mobile-connected in 2019.

Put simply: it uses two factors to confirm it’s you. Eg: An OTP (One Time Password), Date of Birth etc. 2. Putting Your Best Finger Forward We have entered an era where our own human bodies can be used to verify our identities. While it’s certainly convenient, biometric security may not replace all of our passwords. But it will serve as another layer of security when authenticating into devices, confirming that we are who we say we are. As per a global survey conducted by McAfee Labs, 35% of respondents think fingerprint authentication is the most trusted single factor to unlock devices. 3. Think Before You Click The most common phishing attacks can start with one simple email relying on social engineering. The email usually asks for confirmation of login, password or credit card information and will direct users to a webpage that mirrors the company’s real website. Ensure that you provide personal or financial information only after you verify legitimacy of the website. 4. The Morning After A <keyword id="608402" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="data-breach">Data Breach</keyword> Consumers can’t be solely held responsible for security. Even if you have the best of unique passwords, there are high chances that any service provider can be hacked. In a day and age where cybercrime is an industry, such an event is highly probable. In what could be referred to as one of the biggest deal of the season, Emami has raised Rs 950 crore debt to partially fund the acquisition of Kesh King brand of hair products. 
 
The Kolkata-based healthcare products firm known for Fair and Handsome and Zandu Balm will fund Kesh King deal from internal accruals. The balance amount of Emami in the first quarter stands at Rs 1684 crore. 
 
"The Kesh King business is being integrated with Emami's existing business and it has already started contributing to the growth. We plan to make Kesh King a panIndia brand soon," Emami Ltd director Harsha V Agarwal told the financial daily. 
 
Kesh King's market presence was limited to seven states only and Emami plans to export the product in markets where there is sizeable Indian diaspora. 
 
The acquisition enabled <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Emami-is-showing-the-way-forward-for-all-family-run-businesses-Even-the-Ambanis-can-learn-from-it/articleshow/47812411.cms">Emami</a> to enter the ayurvedic hair and scalp care segment. The company on Wednesday announced 23.9% jump in net Rs 87.75 crore during the profit at first quarter ending June 30 on back of 22.4% jump in sales at Rs 589.87 crore as compared to the same period last fiscal.

The Emami scrip was down by 0.35% to close at Rs 1322.9 at the Bombay Stock Exchange on Wednesday, confirmed the ET news report. 
 
Plans are in place to expand the Zandu brand into newer healthcare categories and will soon start test-marketing some products in Andhra Pradesh, across both over-the-counter and through doctors. Emami has also decided to consolidate its international business on selected geographies such as the Saarc, Middle-East and CIS nations with a plan to grow contribution from 14% of sales to 25-30% in five years.

NEW DELHI: The government is still awaiting confirmation from Pakistan on whether or not Prime Minister <keyword id="6576" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Nawaz-Sharif">Nawaz Sharif</keyword> is going to attend PM-designate Narendra Modi's swearing-in on Monday. Pakistan did hail Modi's initiative as a bold move. 
 Leaders of all other Saarc countries, and also Mauritius PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam, have confirmed their participation apart from Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina who will be in Japan on Monday. Bangladesh will be represented by its <keyword id="202736" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Parliament-speaker">Parliament Speaker</keyword>. The Mauritius PM was invited after a telephonic conversation with Modi.

 "The invitation is a bold and unexpected move. Mr Sharif does not share the anxiety that is felt by some quarters here in Pakistan because he has got some very fond memories of the previous BJP prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee coming to <keyword id="6580" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Lahore">Lahore</keyword> and he hopes that this anxiety about Modi and his past will fade away," Tariq Azim, media advisor to Sharif's party PML (N), told a news channel. 
 
Pakistan's foreign ministry on Thursday said there was also the option of someone else being sent to represent Sharif, leading to speculation that Sharif's party was divided on the issue. Sources here said Sharif may also be influenced by whatever feedback he gets from Pakistan's military establishment. 
 
Sources here said Modi and Sharif, if he does come, will have their first bilateral meeting on May 27. Modi is scheduled to have bilateral meetings with all other visiting leaders the same day. 
 
The Pakistan foreign office spokesperson suggested that Islamabad may consider sending a representative for Sharif. "It is normal practice that if the head of state has a preoccupation then he can nominate someone else. There is no violation of protocol,'' she said.

 The UPA-2 government has been upset with Islamabad in the recent past for not granting non-discriminatory market access to India for furthering trade ties. It alleged that the Sharif government did this under pressure from the <keyword id="15350" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Army">army</keyword>. Indian officials believe that the two countries could start afresh if Sharif indeed attends Modi's oath-taking ceremony.

By inviting Sharif, Modi has also put the onus on the Pakistani PM to kick off the stalled dialogue process. This is especially true in the light of assertions by Pakistani authorities that Islamabad was willing to have a meaningful, result-oriented dialogue with India under Modi but that the initiative to break the logjam had to come from Modi himself.

Known for its heavy duty trucks, buses and passenger vehicles, Tata Motors is foraying into the arena of defence where it has smelt the opportunity of earning whopping revenues. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Shares-of-Tata-Motors-are-surging-Know-why/articleshow/48187327.cms">At a time when its shares are surging</a>, it is transitioning from just providing logistic support to supplying combat vehicles including front line combat vehicles, as per a news report by The Economic Times. Simultaneously, the company <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Tata-Motorsto-triple-its-commercial-vehicles-export/articleshow/48176534.cms">is planning to open up new overseas markets through the hub-and-spoke model</a> in Eastern Europe, Africa, Asean and Latin America. 
 
The company is building tie ups with the brands well recognized in the defence segment, including SUPACAT, a UK-based high mobility vehicle specialist. This will supposedly provide technical assistance for its Light Armoured Multi-role Vehicle (LAMV) project, a combat vehicle based on a defence ministry programme. The company also has collaborated with Malaysian-based DRB-HICOM for import, distribution and assembly of Tata Motors' commercial vehicles and defence range in Malaysia, a step towards expanding into the international market, confirms the ET report. 
 
Besides, the LAMV and its upgrade programmes include missiles carriers, mine protected vehicles, main battle tanks and infantry combat vehicles, Tata has also developed the WHAP (Wheeled Armoured Amphibious Platform). 
Defence business is expected to account for 15 % of its total revenues, a 5 times jump from 3 % at present, and exports volumes to increase to 150,000 units from about 50,000 in 2014-15. 
 
"The potential is very large...10 % is not a good number, our defence business can be much bigger than 15 per cent in the future," Ravindra Pisharody, executive director and head of commercial vehicle business at Tata Motors told the ET. Pisharody was referring to Rs 900 crore order that Tata Motors secured from the Indian Army for supplying 1,200 trucks for material handling cranes for loading, unloading and transportation of ammunition pallets, spares and other operational equipment. 
 
Not only India, the Indian multinational automaker has <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Tata-Motors-has-entered-Vietnam-market/articleshow/47298143.cms">supplied defence vehicles in markets including the ASEAN, SAARC and Africa</a>. The company recently received an order from Myanmar for about 500 units and it completed deliveries for 520 defence vehicles to the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Mali.
