(Photo source: <a href="https://images.news18.com/ibnlive/uploads/2016/09/saarc.jpg">News18</a>) <ul><li>An Indian diplomat, Shubham Singh, walked out on the <keyword id="8470" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="SAARC">SAARC</keyword> summit hosted by Islamabad in protest to their Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (<keyword id="44062" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="PoK">PoK</keyword>) minister being present at the event. </li><li>Not only was the PoK minister for <keyword id="3001" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pakistan">Pakistan</keyword> present, but was asked to come up to the dias to address rest of the committee, according to a Times of <keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> report. </li><li>India, as a policy, has refrained from acknowledging the authority of any ministers appointed by Pakistan in the disputed territory.</li></ul> An official of the Indian High Commission in Pakistan, Shubham Singh, walked out during a South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) meeting in Islamabad on Sunday as per the <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/pok-minister-at-saarc-meet-india-walks-out/articleshow/67018010.cms">Times of India</a>. His actions were registered as a sign of protest over the presence of Pakistan’s minister for Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), Muhammad Saeed, at the event. PoK has been a hot-button issue between India and Pakistan due to its strategic importance to both nations. And never before, at least during a SAARC summit, has the PoK minister been invited to attend the negotiations since its underlying mission is to achieve regional cooperation and the PoK issue is in direct contradiction of that directive. Singh reportedly left the meeting as soon as Saeed was invited to speak at the dais during the event’s Chambers of Commerce and Industry meeting. The doom of SAARC? Prior to this, the most recent incident where Pakistan reportedly tried to ‘legitimise’ PoK in the eyes of the international community was when Pakistan’s new Prime Minister, Imran Khan, was sworn in. India maintains that Kashmir is an integral part of the country and doesn’t recognise the authority of a ‘minister’ for the people in PoK. This SAARC meeting was the first to be initiated in a long time. In 2016, India pulled out of the 19th SAARC summit that was also supposed to hosted by Islamabad in retaliation of the terrorist attack in Uri on an Indian Army base. After India pulled out, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Afghanistan also pulled out <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/world/neighbours/story/uri-terror-attack-now-bangladesh-slams-pakistan-terms-india-friend-since-1971-342238-2016-09-21">stating</a> that, “We are against terror, against terrorist country and against any country that supports terror.” There have been no subsequent SAARC summits since then. Pakistan has been accused of repeatedly trying to derail international negotiations by bringing up the issue of PoK during international summits, especially those presided over by the United Nations. India’s stance has been that while it too agrees with the gravitas of the situation, its repeated resurgence on international platforms undercuts a lot of other important policy decisions that have be addressed.

New Delhi, Apr 25 () The Godrej Group on Saturday urged the government to include mosquito repellents and other similar products in the essential items list during the ongoing lockdown. As a trend, malaria and dengue spike during May running up to August and preparation for the malaria season starts from April, it said in a statement. The group's FMCG arm Godrej Consumer Product Ltd (GCPL) is a major player in the segment with brands like GoodKnight and Hit. As per the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, India witnessed 3,34,693 malaria cases in 2019 and 19,980 cases were already reported up to February this year. Presently, the government and healthcare infrastructure are heavily invested to deal with COVID-19, but India cannot be unprepared for malaria and dengue, it said. During the current nationwide lockdown, only essential products are allowed to be sold. "...mosquito repellents, personal repellents, liquid vapourisers, must be brought under the purview of 'essential goods'. This will ensure an uninterrupted supply of household insecticide products and will be easily accessible for families till the lockdown is lifted completely," it added. In March, the World Health Organization (WHO) also issued an advisory urging countries to ensure the continuity of malaria services in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the statement said "COVID-19 has caused high levels of panic. While we do our best to deal with this pandemic, we should not forget the looming threat of malaria and dengue. "Indian households primarily depend on mosquito repellents, vapourisers, coils to safeguard themselves. India is fast emerging as an attractive destination for medical value travellers from across the globe. The drivers of medical tourism in India include a substantially lower cost of treatment, short waiting times and delivery of high-quality services. A cardiovascular surgery in the country can <a href="https://www.traveltrendstoday.in/news/india-tourism/item/5439-medical-tourism-emerging-as-a-next-growth-driver">cost</a> as little as Rs. 4-5 lakh compared to Rs. 80 lakhs in the U.S. Similarly, the <a href="https://www.tforg.com/how-we-think/sweetspot-blog/2016/08/30/healthcare-markets-india-pharmaceuticals-medical-devices-health-tourism/">waiting time</a> for a knee graft operation in India could be as short as five days compared to nearly 18 months in the U. K’s National Health Service. The <a href="http://bureaucracytoday.com/global_bureaucracy.aspx?id=135512">number of medical visitors</a> to India has been increasing steadily, up from 1,84,298 in 2014 to 3,61,060 in 2016. Future projections also seem promising, with the industry expected to touch <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/healthcare/biotech/india-among-fastest-growing-medical-tourism-destinations-official/articleshow/61056202.cms">$9 billion by 2020</a>. Some key challenges, however, persist. While the government has taken several progressive steps concerning medical visas, more can be done to ease the travel of medical tourists to India. Additionally, the market continues to be largely unregulated, with several informal agents and intermediaries connecting prospective patients to health facilities. Domestic or international accreditation has been acquired by a relatively small number of health facilities, primarily hospitals. Most importantly perhaps, there is considerable lack of awareness in target markets about India’s capabilities, infrastructure and cost advantage in the health and wellness space. In many countries, there are misconceptions about India’s traditional systems of medicine such as Yoga and <keyword id="48379" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ayurveda">Ayurveda</keyword> which are often perceived to be exclusive to Indian culture or even related to religion, instead of means for promoting healthy living. This is perhaps why India currently accounts for only 2% of the global wellness market. The Way Forward While a comprehensive medical tourism policy is in the works, some concrete and implementable measures in the short-term can go a long way in helping India realise its full potential in medical tourism. First, it may be worthwhile to revisit some of the medical visa norms. For instance, the process of registering at the <keyword id="6413540" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Foreigner">Foreigner</keyword> Regional Registration Offices could be made easier for patients by setting up helpdesks at major airports and hospitals across the country. The procedure for visitors who come on a tourist visa to switch to a medical visa should also be streamlined. Further, medical visa on arrival could be piloted for patients from countries like Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Oman, UAE, UK, UK and <keyword id="6356687" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="canada">Canada</keyword>. Second, the need for and importance of acquiring an accreditation should be widely publicised among all types of health and wellness providers, including dental clinics, Ayurveda and Yoga centres as well as medical tourism companies. As per the <a href="https://www.jointcommissioninternational.org/about-jci/jci-accredited-organizations/?c=India">Joint Commission International</a> (JCI) website, 36 Indian providers have been accredited by JCI compared to 61 in <keyword id="3739" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Thailand">Thailand</keyword>. A JCI accreditation is considered to be the gold standard in global health care. Third, to enable better regulation of the market, a system should be put in place for registering agents and intermediaries. They should also be accredited according to the framework developed by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers and listed on all websites about medical tourism. Fourth, for promoting India as a medical and wellness tourism destination, intensive awareness campaigns should be undertaken in high potential markets (e.g. <keyword id="366595" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="South-East-Asia">South-East Asia</keyword> for medical treatments, <keyword id="6355055" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="USA">USA</keyword> and UK for wellness tourism), in addition to traditionally lucrative markets (e.g. SAARC, Middle East and Africa). The launch of the <keyword id="6019965" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="india-healthcare-tourism">India Healthcare Tourism</keyword> website by the government is an important step. There is an opportunity to make the website even more comprehensive by adding information on local travel and accommodation. The website also needs to be actively promoted through social media channels, in partnership with domestic and international medical tourism companies as well as leading hospital chains. By learning from the experiences of countries like <keyword id="8695" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Malaysia">Malaysia</keyword> and Thailand, a welcome lounge could be set up at airports where large numbers of medical tourists land as well as a dedicated call centre for international patients. The <a href="http://pib.nic.in/newsite/PrintRelease.aspx?relid=134430">National Medical &amp; Wellness Tourism Promotion Board</a> can serve as the anchor point for the implementation of these measures. In the longer term, state-level boards should also be established to align with the board at the national level. The time is ripe to inject greater vitality into India’s already strong medical tourism industry and overcome the obstacles that stand in the way of the country becoming a global leader in the space. It’s hard to imagine the amount of data being consumed and thrown out into the sphere these days. Facebook, Gmail, Twitter, Instagram the list is never ending and that’s less than 1% of how much data is getting transmitted to servers across the globe every passing minute. 
 
All this basically ends up affecting the efficiency and data transfer speeds of varied data centers responsible for managing/storing all this content. So, they’ve had no option, but to expand their storage capability, keeping in mind the requirements of each market and clientele. This certainly requires a lot of investments on the hardware front. Does this mean one simply can’t manage data load while availing the cost benefits? Why not, says Seagate that has recently launched its Kinetic Open Storage (KOS) solution. 
 
Introduced globally back in 2014, now the storage major has forayed into the Indian market with KOS solution that effectively ensures that enterprises (mostly data center) based on Telecom (and more such) can derive drastic cost benefits by reducing the amount of hardware being consumed.

This study further reveals that by 2020 more than seven billion people on at least 30 billion devices will have created 44 
zettabytes of data, which suggests that we are heading to the world in which nearly every element of life will be data-driven. 
 
While businesses know they can get value from this data, 49% global business leaders admit that they don’t know how to turn all of their data into actionable information. 
 
The study brings to light some interesting facts: majority of Indian businesses think they are aware of the importance of predictively spotting new opportunities to get ready for the ‘Information Generation’; and majority of the leaders in India cite the need to innovate in an agile way as the top priority, just after China. But are their claims valid? 
 
The research done by EMC suggests otherwise; it shows wide gap in the number of organizations doing this extremely well and organization-wide. To overcome this problem, Indian organizations should continually re-condition themselves in ways that are yet to be imagined, says Rajesh Janey, President, India &amp; SAARC, EMC. 
 He further adds, “The Information Generation is changing the dynamics of the environment in which organizations operate today as they increasingly face the demand for more. The new generation of businesses especially the ones ‘born of the cloud’ are driving this change in expectations, thereby making it critical for businesses to redefine themselves in order to adapt and remain relevant. While 76% of <keyword id="1508997" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="businesses-in-India">businesses in India</keyword> think that SMAC has changed consumer expectations, it becomes critical that they systematically explore the longer-term implications of an age in which information is at the centre of everything we do.” 
 
The Information Generation: Transforming The Future study was conducted by Institute for the Future and Vanson Bourne on behalf of EMC. Vanson Bourne surveyed 3,600 business leaders across 18 countries from mid-size to large enterprises in nine industries to determine top business imperatives required for success today and over the next decade.
