The Under-17 Women’s World Cup was scheduled to be held across Odisha, Goa and Maharashtra in October this year. Why has FIFA suspended AIFF? The governing body of world football announced the suspension citing the "undue influence from third parties, which constitutes a serious violation of the FIFA Statutes”. The suspension is effective from August 14, 2022 until further notice, according to a letter from Fatma Samoura, Secretary General, FIFA. This will affect India’s international participation. The troubles began when former AIFF president Praful Patel who was also a FIFA council member, refused to resign from his post as the head of football in the country after his tenure of three years ended in December 2020. It appointed Justice (retired) Anil R Dave, former Chief Election Commissioner of India, Dr S.Y. The ban was lifted last month. Zimbabwe, Kenya, Chad, Benin, Kuwait, Nigeria and Iraq have also been at the receiving end of FIFA’s wrath. How will it affect India? Both male and female players won’t be able to participate in international tournaments till the ban is lifted, which includes the 2023 Asian Cup. In June, India’s football team captain Sunil Chhetri said a ban would be “catastrophic” for the country and him. “No matter what is happening on that front, I hope it is under control and the country does not get a ban. Because, that will be catastrophic, not just for the whole country but for me, because I’m 37. I’m playing my last games. You never know when there’s a last game for you,” said Chhetri. Indian professional football club based in Calicut, Gokulam Kerala, has already found itself stranded in Uzbekistan after the FIFA suspension. The team was scheduled to play at the AFC Women's Club Championship. On August 18, SC asked the centre to take a proactive role and ensure that India is able to host the U-17 Women’s World Cup in October. The men’s team is also scheduled to play Singapore and Vietnam in September and India’s participation in SAFF Women's Championship next month also looks uncertain. The suspension has not only dampened the morale of players who have been training for years, but it has also disappointed fans who were looking forward to watching the tournament live. The sport is watched by more than 23 million people, says a recent report by Ormax Media. Will the suspension be lifted? The suspension will be lifted once the AIFF administration regains full control of their daily affairs, which means no CoA. FIFA has also told India to form an independent electoral committee. The Election Commission of India (ECI) confiscated more than twice the amount of cash, gold and liquor they did, last year. But that seems to have had no effect on the amount spent on this costliest election ever, anywhere. According to a report by the Center for Media Studies, as much as ₹600 billion (nearly $9 billion) was spent, this election. Even in a much richer country like the US, the total amount of money spent in the last election in 2016 was relatively lesser at $6.5 billion for congressional and Presidential races combined, according to <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2017/04/14/somebody-just-put-a-price-tag-on-the-2016-election-its-a-doozy/?noredirect=on&amp;utm_term=.adcc2dd254d0">campaign watchdog Open </a>Secrets. This amount of money spent on election does more damage than just being a financial burden. “Even though the horrors of money are obvious, why will they legislate in their own self interest till sufficient advocacy on the ground pushes for it?” commented S Y Quraishi, former chief election commissioner (CEC) of India, said in a foreword to the report. Excessive money spent in campaigning is a harbinger of bad governance which will be ridden with vested interests who would want bang for the buck spent on electing a candidate or a government. According to Quraishi, the next election will be no better in terms of being free, fair and transparent, if the rising tide of criminalisation of politics and overarching influence of money in politics isn’t stemmed. Direct ‘Benefit’ Transfer More than two-thirds of India’s legislators are millionaires, many times over. It is hence not surprising that the candidates of this election have dug deep into their pockets. This time, newer and convenient delivery models of election bribing has come to the fore. “For the first time it is confirmed that bank transfer of money on the eve of poll has become a new route to lure voters in the name of one or more scheme,” the report said. As per the estimates, the cost of every vote is pegged at ₹700. One of the examples is the transfer of money to farmers under PM-KISAN, a central government scheme announced in the recent budget. Business Insider found that in many parts of Uttar Pradesh, farmers received the money into their bank accounts less than 48 hours before the polling. While this may be clear in legal terms as the PM-KISAN scheme was rolled out before the the Election Commission's model code of conduct kicked in. However, it cannot be denied that the transfer may have timed to influence the voter's choice in the nick of time.

 Poll candidates have also diversified their offerings to voters. As per the seizures reported by the Election Commission, drugs and narcotics, liquor, gold and silver have made to the list of handouts, along <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/election-2019-gold-confiscated-in-tamil-nadu-ahead-of-second-phase/articleshow/68933494.cms">with other freebies</a>. “It is high time that Parliament deliberates on poll expenditure for campaigns, and about election funding, preceded by serious national discussions,” the report said. But, like Quraishi doubted with lawmakers who have spent ‘so much’ to get there, will try to restrict money--- will remain a big question. The world’s costliest election just concluded in India-- and the ‘horrors of money’ are set to get worse

Incumbent Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a Tweet called it “absolutely shocking”. </li><li>The voter turnout on Saturday was really slow in the morning and picked up only in the late evening.</li></ul>The Election Commission finally declared the voter turnout for Delhi assembly elections late Sunday – at 62.59%. It is lower than the 2015 turnout which was 67.13%. “There has been a delay. Polling continued till late Saturday evening and then the machines kept coming into the reception centre till late night. They were then sealed inside the strong room. All our officers were busy working through the night, from morning 11 am we started the scrutiny,” Delhi chief electoral officer, Dr. Ranbir Singh told the media. But the delay in voter turnout final numbers had led to endless speculation.  Former Chief Election Commissioner of India Dr S.Y. Quraishi too kept retweeting tweets about the mismatch in numbers on the voter turnout app after polling had ended. The voter turnout on Saturday was really slow in the morning and picked up only in the late evening. As of 5 pm, the voter turnout stood at 53.51%, according to the official voter turnout app. The voting started at 8 am and ended at 6 pm on February 8. The results will be out on February 11. As many as 1.46 crore are eligible to vote in this assembly election. There are over 672 candidates in the fray. Almost all the exit polls have predicted a comfortable victory for the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/politics/elections/news/delhi-election-2020-aap-will-win-but-wont-sweep-according-to-exit-poll-data/articleshow/74030428.cms">Aam Aadmi Party government.</a> The exit polls say that <keyword id="6356115" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="AAP">AAP</keyword> could win 48-68 seats out of the 70 seats in Delhi, while the <keyword id="14666" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword> could bag 11-19 seats. The minimum seats needed to form a government is 36. The AAP government has tackled various issues close to the middle class like - education, water and power supply and more. However, the BJP too had stepped in promising homes to slum dwellers - which became a bone of contention between Modi and Kejriwal governments. The shocking delay in Delhi voter turnout data by the Election Commission has sparked a controversy

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div><a href="https://twitter.com/ibdknox">Chris Granger</a>, a former Microsoft engineer and the founder of <a href="http://www.lighttable.com/">Light Table</a>, a popular code editor that's one of the top 10 technology projects on Kickstarter, announced his newest venture. It's called Eve.
Eve a powerful database "that allows you to build anything from a simple website to complex algorithms." And users won't need any prior coding background: According to Granger, Eve is "our way of bringing the power of computation to everyone, not by making everyone a programmer but by finding a better way for us to interact with computers."
In a <a href="http://www.chris-granger.com/2014/10/01/beyond-light-table/">blog post Monday</a>, Granger announced $2.3 million in seed funding from <a href="https://twitter.com/cdixon">Andreessen Horowitz's Chris Dixon</a> and Hunch engineer <a href="https://twitter.com/pinckny">Tom Pinckney</a>, among others. "Chris and Tom had plans to create a company like this and have been thinking about the problem ever since Microsoft killed [Visual Basic 6]," which was the company's programming language that was intended to be easy to use.
Other investors, like Y-Combinator president Sam Altman, MIT Media Lab director Sep Kamvar, and web developer Zubair Quraishi, all previously tried to make programming more accessible, as well.
This is the company's goal:
Imagine a world where everyone has access to computation without having to become a professional programmer - where a scientist doesn't have to rely on the one person in the lab who knows python, where a child could come up with an idea for a game and build it in a couple of weekends, where your computer can help you organize and plan your wedding/vacation/business. A world where programmers could focus on solving the hard problems without being weighed down by the plumbing. That is the world we want to live in. That is the world we want to help create with Eve.
Eve, according to Granger, will look similar to Microsoft Excel, in that it's more about reorganizing column and rows in tables to "program" what you want. But by creating a simple tool, Granger hopes Eve can be close "to the ideal we've always had of just describing what we want and letting the machine do the rest."
With the fresh seed round, Granger hopes to hire "a few new developers and a designer" to help answer one specific but difficult question: "how do you invite a billion people to program without them ever knowing about it?" The designer will be challenged to "own the personality and feel of Eve," while the engineers will focus on databases, queries, and "crazy UIs."
