<ul class="summary-list"><li>The Daily Beast obtained documents naming Ryan Mays as the suspect in the USS Bonhomme Richard <keyword id="28762" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="fire">fire</keyword>.</li><li>According to an affidavit, Mays dropped out of SEAL training and expressed hate for the Navy. </li><li>A fellow sailor told investigators he saw Mays entering the area where the fire started. </li></ul><p>The sailor <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/us-navy-accuses-sailor-of-starting-uss-bonhomme-richard-fire-2021-7">accused</a> of setting an amphibious assault ship on fire last summer has been identified as a 20-year-old Seaman.</p><p><keyword id="11790472" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="ryan-sawyer-mays">Ryan Sawyer Mays</keyword> voiced hate for the Navy after dropping out of SEAL training, according to a <a href="https://www.scribd.com/document/518700846/Ryan-Sawyer-Mays-search-warrant">search warrant affidavit</a> obtained by <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/sailor-who-hated-navy-torched-dollar12b-assault-ship-warrant?ref=home" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Beast. </a></p><p>The Beast was first to name Mays as the sailor suspected of torching the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/photos-fire-fight-on-us-navy-warship-uss-bonhomme-richard-2020-7">USS Bonhomme Richard</a> while it was docked in San Diego on the morning of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hundreds-of-sailors-fighting-uss-bonhomme-richard-fire-2020-7">July 12, 2020</a>. </p><p>The fire burned for <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/navy-says-all-known-fires-uss-bonhomme-richard-finally-out-2020-7">four days</a>, led to dozens of injuries, and caused so much damage that the Navy decided to <a href="https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/military/story/2021-04-09/decommission-bonhomme-richard">scrap the ship</a> instead of repair it. </p><p>A spokesman for the Navy's Third Fleet told <a href="https://www.military.com/daily-news/2021/07/30/sailor-charged-arson-bonhomme-richard-fire-claims-innocence-lawyer-says.html?utm_medium=Social&amp;utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1627678337-137-1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Military.com</a> last week that the sailor faces charges of wrongful hazarding of a vessel and aggravated arson. </p><p>Insider contacted Mays' defense attorney, Gary Barthel, for comment Wednesday morning, but did not immediately receive a response. </p><div type="image" title="Navy USS Bonhomme Richard" height="831" width="2000" msid="85036844" hostid="261"></div><p>According to the affidavit, investigators believe the fire was the result of an arson in the lower vehicle storage area of the ship, referred to as "Lower V."</p><p>Several bottles were found near the site where the fire started that had small amounts of liquid in them. The liquid in one of those bottles was identified by testing as a flammable substance akin to diesel, kerosene, or jet fuel. </p><p>The affidavit includes a June 14, 2020 Instagram post by Mays, showing him standing near what appears to be a sleeping berth on a ship with the caption: "I love the smell of napalm in the morning."</p><p>Napalm is an incendiary chemical; the line is a reference to a scene in "Apocalypse Now" about the US war in Vietnam.</p><p>A sailor told investigators in a questionnaire after the fire that he saw a "light-skin male" wearing a face mask go into the Lower V area just before the fire started. </p><p>The sailor didn't identify the man, but while discussing his answers with investigators mentioned that Mays "hates" the US Navy. </p><p>The sailor later said he was "90% sure" that it was Mays he saw, based in part on height, build, and his fair hair, according to the affidavit. </p><p>Mays joined the Navy in 2019, and later decided he wanted to become a Navy SEAL, the document said. Mays started the SEAL selection process in October 2019, but dropped out just five days in. Mays then was reassigned to the USS Bonhomme Richard as an undesignated Seaman. </p><p>The affidavit noted that failing the SEAL selection process can be "very challenging" to sailors who then end up in more prosaic roles.</p><p>In interviews with investigators, Mays repeatedly denied setting the ship on fire, the affidavit says. He agreed to undergo a polygraph test, it said, and some of his answers showed possible deception. </p><p>Mays also told investigators about troubles in his personal life. He said he recently ended an engagement with a female sailor after she became pregnant and he was told he wasn't the father. </p><p>But the female sailor denied his story to investigators, saying they had never been engaged and she wasn't pregnant. </p><p>She described Mays as being volatile and "bipolar," according to the affidavit. </p><p>Investigators collected Mays' DNA but it has not matched any of the DNA found at the fire scene, according to the affidavit. </p>

Ex-wife Kris Jenner, 59, reportedly passed on submitting a comment for the special, although two other ex-wives of Bruce provided supporting statements. Kris denies that ABC offered her an opportunity to give a statement. 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' will air a 2-part special on Bruce Jenner's transition

<p class="source"><span>FOX News</span></p><p class="caption">Dana Perino on "America's News HQ"</p>Amid the turmoil of the Fox News lineup this year, one host has become a go-to in multiple roles for the network: Dana Perino.<p>The longtime host of "The Five" and President George W. Bush's last White House press secretary has taken on an increasingly visible roll in a tumultuous period for the network. In the last year, Fox News has lost its lost its founding CEO, one of its marquee names, and a primetime host, while outcry over sexual harassment allegations against its highest-rated star threatens to force him off the air.</p><p>On Wednesday, Perino will fill in for embattled host Bill O'Reilly when he goes on vacation amid a mass advertiser boycott over allegations he sexually harassed his coworkers. A network spokesperson told Business Insider Perino is the first of a rotating cast of network personalities set to fill-in for O'Reilly.</p><p>The former Bush press secretary has filled in during primetime shows like O'Reilly's, but she's also been a more regularly-featured news anchor on the network. Perino anchored "Happening Now" during breaking news coverage of a shooting in San Bernardino on Monday- she <a href="https://twitter.com/DanaPerino/status/847823690167443458">began filling in</a> during the 1PM hour last month, and has anchored the show multiple times.</p><p>Last month, she also conducted high-profile interviews during "America's News HQ" with guests like Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke and House Speaker Paul Ryan.</p><p>Over the past several months, the network has tried Perino in a variety of different analytical and straight-news roles.</p><p>Perino was the co-host of the first show the network debuted after former CEO Roger Ailes' departure last year. The Sunday evening political roundtable show "I'll Tell You What"  was billed as a three-month election special featuring a lighter political roundup without shouting or "<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/dana-perino-chris-stirewalt-fox-news-tell-you-what-2016-10">score settling</a>."</p><p>It may not be a poor decision for the network to elevate the host. Filling in for Martha MacCallum last Tuesday, Perino garnered <a href="http://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/scoreboard-tuesday-april-4/325861">slightly higher ratings</a> than two other days last week when MacCallum hosted the "First 100 Days." One of two days of the week when MacCallum beat Perino, her guest were President Donald Trump's top counselor Kellyanne Conway.</p><p>Perino has hosted "The Five" since the show's inception - it remains the top performing show in its time slot by a long shot.</p><p>It is far from uncommon for former political operatives to transition to television personalities.</p><p>"Good Morning America" and "This Week" anchor George Stephanopoulos was President Bill Clinton's communications director, while ABC's Diane Sawyer was once an aide to President Richard Nixon.</p><p>CNN regularly retains a stable of former campaign operatives as paid contributors. In addition to his role as a commentator, President Barack Obama's former political adviser David Axelrod also hosts a successful podcast that has occasionally run on television as a long-form interview.</p><p>Perino has made calculated changes over the years as an analyst at Fox, speaking out forcefully when she felt other hosts were misleading viewers.</p><p>She raised eyebrows when <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/dana-perino-donald-trump-election-prediction-2016-8">she told followers</a> that she would "not lie" to fans about Trump's bleak poll numbers in August, which was seen as a direct rebuke of host Eric Bolling's argument that the then-nominee's crowd size was a better indicator of his popularity than Trump's poll numbers.</p><p>In an interview in September, Perino told Business Insider that it would "be difficult to go back" to spinning news, after becoming accustomed to onscreen candor.</p><p>Chris Stirewalt, who co-hosted "I'll Tell You What," credited Perino's success at Fox with her willingness to criticize her party, rather than attempt to defend it.</p><p><span>"You can see people who can't shake it, who have been partisans who try to do TV," Stirewalt told Business Insider in September. "It stays with them, it's too hard wired into them."</span></p><p>"But there are people who have worked in politics in one party or another who have gone on and had successful journalism careers. The prerequisite in each case is intellectual honesty.
