The <keyword id="19949639" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rupee" source="keywords">rupee</keyword> traded in a narrow range to settle 2 paise higher at 83.95 (provisional) against the American currency on Wednesday, helped by a sharp decline in the <keyword id="19949640" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-Dollar" source="keywords">US Dollar</keyword> against major currencies overseas. <keyword id="20024982" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="forex-traders" source="keywords">Forex traders</keyword> said a mixed-to-positive tone in the domestic market also supported the rupee. However, foreign fund outflows and <keyword id="19955176" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="geopolitical-tensions" source="keywords">geopolitical tensions</keyword> in the <keyword id="19904316" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Middle-East" source="keywords">Middle East</keyword> restricted the rise in the local unit. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 83.90 but soon fell into the negative zone and touched an intra-day low of 83.97 against the American currency. The domestic unit finally settled at 83.95 (provisional) against the American currency, 2 paise higher from its previous close. On Tuesday, the rupee settled for the day on a flat note at 83.97 against the US dollar. "We expect the rupee to trade with a slight negative bias on elevated commodity prices and heightened geopolitical tension in the Middle East between Israel and Iran. "However, the weak Dollar and rising odds of a rate cut by the US Fed may support the rupee. Positive global markets may also support the rupee at lower levels," said Anuj Choudhary - Research Analyst at Sharekhan by BNP Paribas. Choudhary further noted that traders may take cues from US CPI data today. "USD/INR spot price is expected to trade in a range of Rs 83.75 to Rs 84.20," it added. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading 0.13 per cent lower at 102.42. Forex traders said the US dollar has weakened against majors post the US Producer Price Index (PPI) print, which came in softer than anticipated, leaving the Dollar Index vulnerable to further correction. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, advanced 0.28 per cent to USD 80.92 per barrel. On the domestic equity market front, Sensex advanced 149.85 points, or 0.19 per cent, to 79,105.88 points. The Nifty rose 4.75 points, or 0.02 per cent, to 24,143.75 points. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets on Tuesday, as they offloaded shares worth Rs 2,107.17 crore, according to exchange data. On the domestic macroeconomic front, wholesale inflation fell to a 3-month low of 2.04 per cent in July on the decline in prices of food items especially vegetables, government data released on Wednesday showed. Rupee rises 2 paise to close at 83.95 against US dollar

The <keyword id="6355302" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rupee" source="Orion">rupee</keyword> fell 27 paise to close at 82.05 (provisional) against the US currency on Tuesday, weighed down by a strong greenback against major rivals overseas and a muted trend in domestic equities. At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 81.84 against the dollar and slipped below the 82 levels to close at 82.05 (provisional), down 27 paise from its previous close. During the day, the rupee witnessed a high of 81.83 and a low of 82.15 against the greenback. On Monday, the rupee settled at 81.78 against the dollar. The rupee depreciated and is at its lowest level in two and half weeks on the positive US Dollar index. However, soft crude oil prices cushioned the downside, said Anuj Choudhary - Research Analyst at Sharekhan by BNP Paribas. The dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, rose 0.10 per cent to 101.47. "US Dollar gained on risk aversion in global markets and as the Federal Reserve's Senior Loan Officer Opinion Survey shows banks continued to tighten credit conditions for business and households, but it was better than expected," Choudhary added. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, declined 0.88 per cent to <keyword id="54123" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="usd" source="Orion">USD</keyword> 76.33 per barrel. "We expect the rupee to trade with a negative bias on the strong Dollar amid safe haven appeal on the back of risk aversion in global markets and worries over a global economic slowdown. "However, softening crude oil prices at higher levels and FII inflows may support the rupee at lower levels. Investors may remain cautious ahead of inflation data from India and the US later this week. We expect USD/INR spot to trade in between 81.60 to 82.75 in the near term," Choudhary added. On the domestic equity market front, the 30-share BSE Sensex closed 2.92 points lower at 61,761.33. The broader NSE Nifty advanced 1.55 points to 18,265.95. Rupee weighed down strong greenback, falls 27 paise to close at 82.05/USD

Moreover, foreign fund inflows also supported the rupee. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 83.64, and touched an early high of 83.62, registering a gain of 4 paise from its previous close. On Monday, the rupee consolidated in a narrow range to settle 4 paise higher at 83.66 against the American currency. Forex traders said marketmen will closely watch the Union Budget for further cues on fiscal deficit, capital expenditure, tax revenue and GST among others. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present her 7th straight Budget that would lay a roadmap for Viksit Bharat (developed India) by 2047, while giving a glimpse of 10 years' performance. The Indian rupee has been down as dollar buying from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the government of India, defence, oil companies and foreign investors has kept dollar well bid. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was at 104.20, lower by 0.10 per cent. In the domestic equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex was trading 11.54 points, or 0.01 per cent higher at 80,513.62 points. Rupee rises 4 paise to 83.62 against US dollar in early trade

Market participants will keenly watch India's trade balance data due later in the day as any decrease in the deficits would bring a breather for the rupee. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit moved in a narrow range. It opened at 83.54 against the American currency and touched 83.52 in the initial trade. On Thursday, the rupee settled for the day lower by 6 paise at 83.54 against the US dollar. "The rupee remains steady, due to the Reserve Bank of India's active management and ever-growing forex reserves," CR Forex Advisors MD Amit Pabari said. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was at 105.29, higher by 0.09 per cent. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, fell 0.44 per cent to USD 82.39 per barrel. "The Indian rupee remained range-bound on Thursday and is expected in a similar narrow range today also as foreign portfolio investors buy dollars and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) sells them," said Anil Kumar Bhansali, Head of Treasury and Executive Director Finrex Treasury Advisors LLP. On the domestic equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex was trading 213.02 points, or 0.28 per cent lower at 76,597.88 points. Rupee opens on flat note against US dollar in early trade

Forex traders said the rupee was the best performer among Asian currencies and now has the support of 81.70. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 82.20 and touched an intra-day high of 81.72 and a low of 82.26 against the greenback. It finally ended at 81.78 (provisional), registering a rise of 57 paise over its previous close. On Monday, the rupee settled at 82.35 against the US dollar. The dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, advanced 0.12 per cent to 103.12. The rupee became the best performer among the Asian currencies following stop order triggers and inflows from bond selling, said Dilip Parmar, Research Analyst, <keyword id="11837714" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="hdfc" botkeyword="" source="ET" sourcekeytype="COMPANY" meta.keywordsubtype="EQ" meta.aliasname="hdfc" meta.entityname="Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd." meta.entityid="13640" meta.seoname="housing-development-finance-corporation-ltd">HDFC</keyword> Securities. "The local unit witnessed the biggest single-day gains after November 11 and broke the psychological level of 82 as the traders rushed to cover the positions," Parmar said. Parmar further noted that Spot USD/INR now has the support of 81.70, "the 50 per cent Fibonacci retracement adjoining the November 14 low of 80.51 and the January 03 high of 82.94. The near-term view remains bearish for the pair and a level below 81.70 will pave way for 81.45 while on the higher side 82.10 acts as resistance". On the domestic equity market front, the 30-share BSE Sensex declined 631.83 points or 1.04 per cent to end at 60,115.48, while the broader NSE Nifty fell 187.05 points or 1.03 per cent to 17,914.15. The rupee appreciated 3 paise to settle at 83.43 (provisional) against the <keyword id="19949640" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-dollar" source="keywords">US dollar</keyword> on Friday, tracking a weak American currency and retreating crude oil prices. <keyword id="20024982" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="forex-traders" source="keywords">Forex traders</keyword> said a massive selling in the domestic equity market and outflow of foreign funds capped the gains in the local currency. At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 83.40 and moved in the range of 83.34 and 83.44 against the greenback during the session. The local unit finally settled at 83.43 (provisional) against the dollar, registering a rise of 3 paise from its previous close. The rupee had settled 3 paise lower at 83.46 against the dollar on Thursday. Anuj Choudhary, Research Analyst, Sharekhan by BNP Paribas, said the rupee gained on a weak US dollar and a decline in crude oil prices. However, weak domestic markets and FII outflows capped sharp gains. The weak dollar was attributed to the US Federal Reserve's decision to keep the key interest rate unchanged for the sixth consecutive time, citing slower progress on the inflation front. Choudhary further said the rupee is expected to trade with a slight negative bias on weak domestic markets and selling pressure from foreign investors. However, a weak tone and a soft US dollar may support the rupee at lower levels. "Traders may remain cautious ahead of non-farm payrolls report and ISM services PMI data from the US today. Encouraging non-farm payrolls may support the dollar while dismal data may weigh on the greenback. USD-INR spot price is expected to trade in a range of Rs 83.20 to Rs 83.60," he added. India's <keyword id="20041067" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="manufacturing-PMI" source="keywords">manufacturing PMI</keyword> fell to 58.8 in April 2024 from 59.1 in the previous month, a monthly survey said on Thursday. The seasonally adjusted HSBC India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI), however, recorded the second fastest improvement in operating conditions in three-and-a-half years supported by buoyant demand. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, declined 0.10 per cent to 105.07. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, slipped 0.04 per cent to USD 83.64 per barrel. On the domestic equity market front, Sensex tumbled 732.96 points, or 0.98 per cent, to settle at 73,878.15, and Nifty tanked 172.35 points, or 0.76 per cent, to close at 22,475.85. Rupee rises 3 paise to end at 83.43 against US dollar

The rupee climbed 9 paise to 83.37 against the <keyword id="19949640" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-dollar" source="keywords">US dollar</keyword> in early trade on Friday, tracking strong sentiment in the <keyword id="20226142" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="domestic-equity-markets" source="keywords">domestic equity markets</keyword> and a weak American currency against major rivals overseas. <keyword id="20024982" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="forex-traders" source="keywords">Forex traders</keyword> said the outflow of foreign funds and elevated level of crude oil prices, however, weighed on the Indian currency. At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened strong at 83.40 and touched the intra-day peak of 83.36 against the greenback. The local unit later traded at 83.37 against the dollar in the morning deals, registering a gain of 9 paise from its previous closing level. The rupee had settled 3 paise lower at 83.46 against the dollar on Thursday. According to Gaurang Somaiya, Forex and bullion analyst, Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd, the dollar was weighed down against major crosses after the US Federal Reserve kept the key interest rate unchanged for the sixth consecutive time. Also, the ongoing pressures and a tight labour market indicated a stall in progress toward bringing inflation back to its 2 per cent target this year. Analysts also said market participants are expected to keep a close watch on the US non-farm payroll data to be released on Friday. Besides, weekly unemployment claims, trade balance and factory order data from the US are likely to provide further cues. "Today, the focus will be on the non-farm payrolls data, which is expected to come in marginally lower and that could weigh on the greenback. Apart from payrolls, services PMI number is also likely to trigger volatility for the dollar. We expect USD-INR (Spot) to trade sideways and quote in a range of 83.20-83.50," Somaiya said. India's manufacturing PMI fell to 58.8 in April 2024 from 59.1 in the previous month, a monthly survey said on Thursday. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 83.39 against the dollar and rose to 83.37, up 3 paise from its previous close. On Friday, the rupee depreciated 4 paise to close at 83.40 against the US dollar. Gaurang Somaiya, forex and bullion analyst at Motilal Oswal Financial Services, said that investors will keep a close eye on monetary policy decisions from <keyword id="6356435" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="us-federal-reserve" source="Orion">US Federal Reserve</keyword> and other central banks to be announced this week. "... the commentary from the (US Fed) Governor will be important to watch and gauge a view for the major crosses. Today, volatility could remain low as no major economic data is expected to be released from the US. We expect the USD-INR (spot) to trade sideways and quote in range of 83.20 and 83.50," Somaiya added.
