In a recent note, he said that after 30 months of struggle, Indian mid and small-cap stocks are poised for outperformance on the back of growth recovery and attractive valuations. The Morgan Stanley report dated August 18 said the small and mid-cap (SMID) stocks went into a prolonged phase of underperformance after peaking in early January 2018. Between the end of 2017 and March 2020, the SMID indices were down more than 40% relative to the equity benchmark Sensex due to various reasons such as growth deceleration and relative valuations. “The COVID-19 related lockdown did not help matters but has marked a floor on the cohort’s relative performance as a forward-looking stock market is possibly anticipating better growth. With monetary aggregates normalizing and significant policy action underway with a corporate tax cut last September, we think growth is set to turn,” the report said. PLI is a form of incentive from one entity to another, such as from the government to industries. It provides incentives to domestic industries to boost local production. The auto PLI scheme is aimed at giving a push to advanced automotive technologies and manufacturing of electric vehicles in India. The government said that the PLI scheme for the auto sector envisages to overcome the cost disabilities of the industry for manufacture of advanced automotive technology products in India. The incentive structure will encourage industry to make fresh investments for indigenous global supply chains of advanced automotive technology products. Reportedly over 100 companies had applied for the PLI scheme. A report by CNBC-TV18 said that incentives in the range of 8-13% would be given to companies that are making components for safety, flex fuels, compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG), emission control, passenger convenience, fuel efficiency, and sensors, while a higher range of incentives — 13 to 18% would be given to companies making components for hydrogen and electric vehicles. Auto stocks turn outliers in a weak market as government approves 75 auto firms for PLI scheme

New Delhi, Jan 24 () Haridwar-based Patanjali group, which has acquired debt-ridden Ruchi Soya, expects to have a turnover of Rs 35,000-Rs 40,000 crore in the next financial year and to become the largest company in the FMCG sector in the coming years replacing market leader HUL, said Yoga Guru Ramdev here on Friday.
 The company is expected to register a joint turnover of up to Rs 25,000 crore in the current financial year, in which around Rs 12,000 crore is likely to be contributed by Patanjali group firms and Rs 13,000 crore may come from Ruchi Soya, he said.
 After the acquisition of Ruchi Soya, Ramdev-promoted Patanjali expects threefold growth of the company and to become a major player in the edible oil category and take a lead in the domestic production of soyabean oil, sunflower oil and palm oil.
 Besides, it would also reduce India's dependency on imports in the edible oil segment and save foreign exchange reserve through self-reliance on palm oil.
 "This fiscal, Patanjali along with Ruchi Soya would have a turnover of around Rs 25,000 crore and expects to grow up to around Rs 35,000 crore-Rs 40,000 crore by the next fiscal year (FY21)," Ramdev said.
 He further said, "In next five years, we would have a turnover of around Rs 50,000 crore to Rs 1 lakh crore and will become the largest FMCG company, replacing HUL."
 Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL), market leader in the FMCG segment, had reported a revenue of Rs 38,224 crore in 2018-19 and this is expected to go up further with the merger with GSK Healthcare's business.
 When contacted, HUL spokesperson said, "As a policy, we do not comment on competition."
 Patanjali had acquired Ruchi Soya in a corporate insolvency resolution process for around Rs 4,350 crore after contesting with Adani Group.
 In the next two years, 25 per cent shares of Ruchi Soya will have to be liquidated as per the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) guidelines, said Ramdev.
 The company expects a higher growth coming from Ruchi Soya, where it is aiming multi-fold growth and is introducing new products by extending its existing popular brand Nutrela.
 "We will launch three new products under Nutrela brand targeting the health-conscious people and the people suffering from diseases such as heart ailments, cholesterol and high blood pressure," he said.
 These products will include premium Oil Nutrela Gold, Nutrela Honey and Nutrela Protein Atta.
 "We are expecting three times growth from Ruchi Soya in coming years," Ramdev said adding that it will also lessen the burden of import of edible oil from other countries and make India self-dependent in this sector.
 Both Patanjali and Ruchi Soya would integrate its products by leveraging their strengths and would enhance the respective production capacity and increase market share, he added.
 Patanjali will also continue to have Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit as the brand ambassador for Ruchi Soya's Mahakosh range of products.
 Moreover, on being asked whether there would be competition between some products of Ruchi Soya and Patanjali Ayurved, Ramdev said the products of Ruchi Soya would not clash with Patanjali's product and will add value to the customers.
 With Ruchi Soya, it also aims to double its reach in the next five years to 50 crore people from the existing 25 crore.
 "We have target to expand our reach to 50 crore people in the next five years," he said adding that the Patanjali group is now providing employment opportunities to around two lakh people and a similar number of farmers and would continue to add the numbers in its fold.
 On being asked about the slowdown in the FMCG segment, Ramdev said it was a temporary phase, companies selling luxury products were mainly impacted and companies selling regular household consumption goods such as Patanjali Ayurved and Ruchi Soya were not impacted.
 "Our turnover and brand equity have actually increased. Our market share has also increased," he said adding that there is no plans for listing of Patanjali Ayurved. KRH HRS

(Eds: Adding details) Mumbai, Feb 10 () Union Bank of India on Monday reported a net profit of Rs 575 crore for the quarter ended December, helped by better recoveries and higher interest income. The state-run bank had reported a profit of Rs 153 crore in the year-ago period. "In this particular quarter (Q3) we were helped by good recoveries of Rs 2,000 crore from Essar Steel, Ruchi Soya and Prayagraj Power Generation. There was also a very steady improvement in the operating efficiency," the bank's managing director and CEO Rajkiran Rai G told reporters here. Total cash recovery and upgradation stood at Rs 2,837 crore during the quarter, while net interest income grew 25.7 per cent to Rs 3,134 crore from Rs 2,439 crore in the year-ago period. Domestic net interest margin (NIM) improved to 2.55 per cent from 2.23 per cent. The gross non-performing assets (NPAs) declined to 14.86 per cent as compared with 15.66 per cent a year ago, while net NPAs stood at 6.99 per cent as against 8.27 per cent. The bank's provision coverage ratio (PCR) stood at 67.42 per cent during the quarter under review as against 56.84 per cent a year ago. Fresh slippages during the quarter increased to Rs 5,112 crore, of which Rs 2,300 crore was on account of one large housing finance company that slipped into NPA. Rai said the bank expects recoveries of Rs 3,000 crore from various stressed accounts in the fourth quarter. "Actually, our total recoveries for the nine months have been Rs 4,910 crore (recoveries and upgradations). We are expecting another Rs 3,000 crore of recoveries in this quarter (Q4) both from NCLT and non-NCLT accounts. So, we can close the year at about Rs 8,000 crore," he said. The lender is expecting a recovery of Rs 700-800 crore from a large steel account which is very close to resolution, he said. The bank's special mention accounts 2 (SMA2) book stood at Rs 10,379 crore. It has signed intercreditor agreement in 24 accounts so far. The lender's gross advances grew 5.8 per cent to Rs 3,36,034 crore, driven by retail segment which increased by 10 per cent during the quarter. Tesco, but here’s where Mukesh Ambani brings true value to its investors – its enterprise value to EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) ratio is double than Walmart, and triple than that of Tesco. The higher the EV/EBITDA ratio, the more value the investor sees in the company. But what makes for Reliance Retail’s high EV/EBITDA ratio? Arvind Singhal, Chairman and MD of consulting firm Technopak, explains that most Indian companies enjoy a much higher EV/EBITDA ratio than their competitors in the US and Europe. “There are two factors. Firstly, the perception of investors is that India will show more growth in consumer product industries compared to mature markets where the consumers are spending less on merchandise and more on services. Retailers like Tesco or Walmart, they have to grow by taking a share of the market from someone. The demography of India is such that people will spend on merchandise consumption, therefore you can support higher multiples,” he said. Singhal also believes that Reliance Retail also enjoys the stance of being part of a conglomerate as opposed to other listed peers within India like DMart, Trent or a Shoppers Stop. “When Reliance Retail does go on to list, the valuation will be higher because of the limited number of ‘good’ companies in India and that too of a certain scale. So, when a global investor comes looking at investments in India, they are going to put their money on those few companies,” he said. Grocery at the centre stage for all three From Reliance to Walmart and even Tesco, grocery is at the centre stage of their e-commerce bets, a business that has only accelerated due to the coronavirus pandemic. Reliance in its first-quarter earnings of FY21 reported that grocery alone saw a 21% growth year-on-year in the operational business of grocery in the first quarter. Ambani’s e-commerce bet, JioMart clocked in big numbers during the lockdown – the company claimed it received over 4 lakh orders on a single day. And now, expansion plans for JioMart are underway. According to a <a href="https://www.financialexpress.com/industry/rils-jiomart-to-sell-half-of-all-online-grocery-in-india-facebook-to-help-put-mukesh-ambani-on-top-goldman/2036073/">Goldman Sachs report,</a> JioMart is poised to sell half of all online grocery in India, which is expected to see 5 million orders every day by 2024. It also helps that global tech players like Facebook and Google have invested billions in Jio and backed Ambani’s digital plans. Meanwhile, Walmart has nearly doubled its e-commerce sales during the April-June quarter, thanks to the rising demand in online grocery. And at the other end, Tesco continues to remain the leader in the British market, even with Amazon being bullish about its e-commerce grocery sales in the region.
