The round also saw participation from Artha Venture Fund, Ajay Kaul – former CEO of Domino’s India, and VSS Investco – the investment vertical of Paytm CEO <keyword id="914589" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vijay-shekhar" source="Orion">Vijay Shekhar</keyword> Sharma. Founded by former Paytm employees Prerna Kalra and Vidya Bhushan in 2017, Daalchini is an IoT-enabled ‘phygital’ (physical+digital) vending machine provider that serves more than 100 start-ups, co-working spaces, large MNCs, hospitals, educational institutes, and residential complexes. It is present in over 20 cities in India and has more than 200 franchise partners and over 160 brands selling on its platform. Now, after its recent funding round, Daalchini will focus on expanding its industry footprint and furthering its tech capabilities. It is targeting to be present across 10 million retail points in India and 450+ F&amp;B D2C brands. Daalchini has grown 300% in the last 12 months with ₹12 crores revenue in FY2022. More than 90% of its vending machines are EBITA positive within 45 days, it said. Daalchini aims to clock ₹50 crores in revenues with a Gross Merchandise Value of ₹130 crores in 12 months. It is planning to grow from 850+ to over 5,000 smart and autonomous retail points in the next 12-18 months. “The retail-tech segment in India is going through a massive transition from its traditional physical store form to a digital one, the speed of which has been intensified by the pandemic. In this phase, Daalchini represents the best of both worlds with a ubiquitous physical presence backed by a strong technological framework that prioritises its customers’ needs and convenience,” said Ruchi Pincha, Investment Associate, Unicorn India Ventures. Daalchini has tied up with leading companies like Reliance, Aditya Birla Group’s Hindalco, Vodafone, GE, Genpact, NITI Aayog, Housr, MX Player, Samsung, Paytm, Snapdeal, Byjus, EY, OLX, OYO, Loreal and VIVO, among others. “Daalchini aims to establish its footprints at every 200 metres of habitable area with its autonomous smart stores and vending machines. Today, our country has just a few thousand vending machines, while the US or Japan has more than one autonomous store for every 200 people. We are far from the true potential of this kind of retail,” said Kalra, who is also the CEO of Daalchini Technologies. According to the <a href="https://www.kearney.com/consumer-retail/article/-/insights/value-ecommerce-the-next-big-leap-in-india-retail-market">Kearney India Retail Index</a>, the retail industry, dominated by the food and groceries sector, will grow at a 9% rate from $779 billion in 2019 to $1.4 trillion in 2026 and reach $1.9 trillion by 2030. Despite the pandemic, research finds that the industry has and will continue to grow on the back of value e-commerce and an unprecedented reach across Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

Retail-tech startup Daalchini raises $4 million in a round led by Unicorn India Ventures

Last week, benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty50 saw a good rally followed by inflows from FIIs and dovish monetary policy tightening by the US. Sensex gains 275 points & Nifty up by 94 points as auto stocks surge

The auction of <keyword id="764355" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="5G" source="Orion">5G</keyword> spectrum capable of offering ultra-high-speed internet received bids worth Rs 1,50,130 crore until Sunday amid pick-up in demand for radiowaves in the <keyword id="364870" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="up-east" source="Orion">UP East</keyword> circle, pushing the bidding to seventh day on Monday. Seven new rounds of bidding held on the sixth day of auction on Sunday 'dialled in' an incremental Rs 163 crore, propelling the cumulative spectrum sale beyond the Rs 1.50 lakh crore-mark. The auction has fetched provisional bids worth Rs 1,50,130 crore in the first six days, according to data released by the telecom department. Sources said that after a relative easing of demand on Saturday, the UP East circle - which includes Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Kanpur - saw bidding activity pick-up once again for 1800 MHz, a band primarily used by telcos for 4G services. UP East - which has over 10 crore mobile subscribers - accounted for all of the incremental spectrum sales on Sunday, amid a pitched battle for radiowaves among players such as <keyword id="6354504" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="reliance-jio" source="Orion">Reliance Jio</keyword> and <keyword id="6354287" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bharti-airtel" source="Orion">Bharti Airtel</keyword>. As on May, Reliance <keyword id="2003276" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="jio" source="Orion">Jio</keyword> had 3.29 mobile subscribers in UP East, Bharti <keyword id="15491" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="airtel" source="Orion">Airtel</keyword> (3.7 crore) and Vodafone Idea (2.02 crore). The bidding intensity for 1800 MHz band in Uttar Pradesh East circle had peaked between Wednesday and Friday, then subsided somewhat on Saturday. On Sunday, however, renewed interest was seen and demand flared once again outstripping the spectrum supply, sources said. All the three private operators are said to be keen on topping up their holdings in this band in UP East, as radiowaves in 900 MHz band are not available. All eyes will be on this circle when bidding resumes on Monday with 38th round, and the auction timelines would depend on how the bidding progresses through the day. Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had earlier said the 5G auction underscored that industry wants to expand, and had entered a growth phase. "The auction results are very good, close to Rs 1,49,966 crore has been committed by the industry for buying the spectrum," Vaishnaw had said at a briefing on Saturday. Up until Friday, about 71 per cent of the total spectrum put on the block had been provisionally sold. After a flying start on Tuesday that saw players pouring in Rs 1.45 lakh crore on the first day, the numbers have inched up incrementally since Wednesday, with players such as Jio and Airtel locked in intense bidding in Uttar Pradesh East circle for 1800 MHz band. In all, 72 GHz (gigahertz) of radiowaves worth at least Rs 4.3 lakh crore is on the block in the 2022 auction. The auction is being held for spectrum in various low (600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2500 MHz), mid (3300 MHz) and high (26 GHz) frequency bands. 5G spectrum bids cross the Rs 1.50 lakh mark as demand for UP East picks up

According to a business intelligence firm Tracxn, Indian startups have raised $23 billion in 2021 till September 1. This is significantly higher than $13 billion raised by the ecosystem in 2020. The massive interest of the investors has increased India’s unicorn tally to 56. The new estimates show that 150 startups will be valued at over a billion dollars in the next four years, by 2025. OfBusiness was the only woman led startup that entered the unicorn club this year

Dezerv plans to use this funding to build a strong team as well as launch and scale their investment technology platform. The company also aims to help young professionals make right investment decisions while investing in mutual funds. The company claims to have brought together a team of investing and technology experts with academic experience from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Southern California (USC), Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The company further claims that its team includes individuals from global companies like JP Morgan, UBS, Uber, Brookfield, Morgan Stanley and Clevertap. Dezerv’s seed round was co-led by Elevation Capital and Matrix Partners India. Whiteboard Capital and Blume Founders Fund also participated in the round, along with 20 angel investors. This included Cred’s Kunal Shah, Ofbusiness’ Asish Mohapatra and Ruchi Kalra, Acko’s Varun Dua, Meesho’s Vidit Aatrey and Sanjeev Barnwal, BharatPe’s Shashvat Nakrani and Suhail Sameer, among others. The company was set up in April 2021 by former IIFL Wealth executives — Sandeep Jethwani, Vaibhav Porwal and Sahil Contractor. It aims to offer a “fresh approach and platform” to help underserved Indian professionals access investment expertise. “Dezerv will leverage the digital adoption and scalable investment infrastructure of post-pandemic India, coupled with decades of our experience to bring world-class investing to Indian professionals,” the company’s founders said in a joint statement. The wealth management startup, citing its study, noted that 75% working professionals say that they need guidance on their portfolio and investment. “Today, this market comprises 30 million households of working professionals in the country who are adrift without a clear solution to manage their growing pool of wealth,” the report added. Six-month-old investment advisory startup Dezerv raises $7 million

The company was valued at $1.5 billion in July, when it raised $160 million from SoftBank, Falcon Edge and Matrix Partners. Softbank, along with Falcon Edge-managed Alpha Wave Incubation, also participated in the latest round with an infusion of $43 million. New York-based Tiger Global — which is also an investor in other business-to-business (B2B) marketplaces Infra.Market and Moglix — has infused $150 million in the New Delhi-based startup. It is likely to infuse another $15-20 million in the coming round. This is the third major funding round closed by OfBusiness this year. Founded by Asish Mohapatra, Bhuvan Gupta, Vasant Sridhar, Ruchi Kalra and Nitin Jain in 2015, the New Delhi-based startup is a tech-enabled platform that enables small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with procurement of raw materials and credits. It has a separate entity, NBFC Oxyzo Financial Services, to offer financing solutions to SMEs. This entity has a loan book of $240 million, with 5,000 borrowers to the list. The company claims to be at an annual revenue run-rate of $1.4 billion.
