New Delhi, Jul 15 () The RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group on Wednesday said it has acquired a majority stake in video-based news app Editorji Technologies Pvt Ltd, a move that marks its foray into the digital news media space. RP-Sanjiv Goenka (RPSG) Group has acquired 51 per cent stake through a combination of primary and secondary transaction in Editorji Technologies, started by former chief executive officer of NDTV Ltd Vikram Chandra, said a statement. However, the group did not disclose the financial details of the transaction. "I am delighted with the transaction as this investment marks our foray into digital news media space. I believe Editorji is a promising platform to build significant digital media business," RPSG Group chairman Sanjiv Goenka said. The USD 6 billion RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, sees India as an untapped media market. Earlier this month, the RPSG Group had bagged the publishing rights for the global business magazine Fortune for the Indian market. "Massive changes are taking place across the world in the digital domain - where there is a need for personalised, credible and factual news and information. Q) How was 2019 for brand Too Yumm? Can you share some growth figures? What are your targets for 2020, and how do you aim to achieve these numbers? 2019 has been a good year for us overall. We have a healthy media mix but a larger share of our communication is through TV and digital platforms as that provides us with requisite width to reach and engage our consumers. The Indian cricket board will be expecting the two new <keyword id="6354312" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IPL" source="Orion">IPL</keyword> franchises to go for Rs 7000 crore to Rs 10,000 crore each after the bidding process begins here on Monday. It is still not clear whether the BCCI will announce the successful bidders on Monday itself after doing the technical evaluation of the bids. There are 22 companies which have picked up tender document worth Rs 10 lakh but with base price for new teams pegged at INR 2000 crore, there is expected to be only five to six serious bidders in fray. The BCCI is also allowing a consortium of up to three companies/individuals to bid for a franchise. However, in case of an individual or company, that particular entity's annual turnover should be minimum INR 3000 crore and in case of consortium, each of the three entities should have an annual turnover of INR 2500 crore. In this scenario, one of India's richest business tycoon <keyword id="111343" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gautam-adani" source="Orion">Gautam Adani</keyword> and his Adani Group are expected to bid for the Ahmedabad franchise. Adani Group, if they finally put up a bid, are the favourites to own a new franchise. Similarly, RPSG group which is headlined by billionaire Sanjiv Goenka are also considered to be serious bidders for a new franchise. Whether RPSG would have any individual or other company as a part of consortium is still not known. "Gautam Adani and Sanjiv Goenka are the biggest names in the Indian industry. They will be serious bidders. Expect a minimum bid of INR 3500 crore from the potential bidders. Don't forget that IPL broadcast rights is projected around USD 5 billion (Rs 36,000 Crore). "So the economics will work accordingly as franchises get the TV revenue share equally," a BCCI insider tracking the developments told PTI on conditions of anonymity. For the record, Goenka owned the <keyword id="12377413" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pune-franchise-rising-pune-supergiants" source="Orion">Pune Franchise Rising Pune Supergiants</keyword> (RPS) for two years and is also the owner of ISL franchise ATK Mohun Bagan. There has been buzz that Lancer group, which is owned by Manchester United owner Avram Glazer, has also picked up the bid document. The other notable companies which are in fray comprise Kotak group, pharmaceutical majors Aurobindo Pharma and Torrent group. The two cities that are favourites in terms of stadium capacity are <keyword id="10818893" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="narendra-modi-stadium" source="Orion">Narendra Modi Stadium</keyword> in Motera with more than 100,000 capacity while the other is Ekana Stadium in Lucknow with 70,000 capacity. The other cities in the hunt are Indore, Guwahati, Cuttack, Dharamsala and Pune. "Yes, a former India opener is ready to shell out around INR 300 crore and buy a minority stake if the consortium he is part of is able to successfully bid for a new team. He comes from a business family and he does want to invest in a cricket team. "He is a distinguished player in his own right and also understands how the franchisee universe works," the BCCI source said. Automaker <keyword id="19909974" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="maruti-suzuki" source="keywords">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> lndia has invested about Rs 1.99 crore in <keyword id="21061376" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="amlgo-labs-private-limited" source="keywords">Amlgo Labs Private Limited</keyword>, a technology-led startup. The startup operates in the area of data analytics, cloud engineering, machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (Al), to assist companies in data driven decision making. With this, Maruti Suzuki will own an equity stake of over 6.44 per cent in the startup, the automaker informed stock exchanges on Saturday. The investment is being made through the Maruti Suzuki lnnovation Fund, an initiative to undertake strategic investments in startups which exhibit high levels of technological innovation. This is the second such investment by the company. Earlier, the company invested in <keyword id="21061374" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sociograph-solutions-private-limited" source="keywords">Sociograph Solutions Private Limited</keyword>, specialised in AI, in June 2022. "We have been working with startups since 2019, as a part of the Maruti Suzuki lnnovation Program. Toyam Sports Limited signed up as title sponsor for India tour of Bangladesh

Kolkata, Jun 13 () I-League champions Mohun Bagan on Saturday decided against reopening its club tent in the wake of the spike in COVID-19 cases in the city. Kolkata has recorded over 1,000 COVID-19 cases in the past 10 days, even as the number of positive patients in Bengal surged past the 10,000 mark on Friday. The Mariners' tent was slated to reopen from Monday but the club, who have merged with Indian Super League champions ATK, said in a statement that they are reversing their earlier decision. "The situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic is very serious and the rate of infected people is drastically increasing everyday. We regret to inform you that in view of the prevailing situation and for the safety of all our members and supporters, the club management has decided not to open the club tent from Monday," the club said in a statement. "We are keeping a close watch on the situation and will do periodical review," it said. However, their merchandise would be available online and the details of the sale would be updated, the club said. West Bengal on Friday registered its highest single-day spike with 476 cases and the overall toll went up to 451 with nine more deaths. The situation has also delayed the launch of the merged entity, which is likely to be named as ATK-Mohun Bagan. The merged entity was slated for a June 1 launch but due to the pandemic the respective Boards' meeting has not yet taken place. Bagan not to reopen club tent from Monday due to spike in COVID cases

Sajjan Jindal-owned <keyword id="146214" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="jsw-infrastructure" source="Orion">JSW Infrastructure</keyword> has filed preliminary papers with capital markets regulator Sebi to raise up to Rs 2,800 crore through an initial public offering (<keyword id="6354763" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ipo" source="Orion">IPO</keyword>) to retire debt and support its expansion plans. JSW Infrastructure will be the third company of the <keyword id="144036" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="jsw-group" source="Orion">JSW Group</keyword> to be listed on the bourses after JSW Energy and JSW Steel. The ports business of the JSW Group filed the DRHP on May 9. Going by the draft papers, the IPO is purely a fresh issue of equity shares with no offer-for-sale (OFS) component, and the promoters will not be diluting their current stake through the issue. The company will use the proceeds to retire its debt as well as to fund its capacity expansion projects, as per the draft red herring prospectus (DRHP). JSW Infrastructure has an installed cargo handling capacity of 153.43 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) for multi-commodity cargo including dry bulk, break bulk, liquid bulk, gases and containers. As of December 31, 2022, JSW Infrastructure had a net debt of Rs 2,875 crore. The company had a profit after tax (PAT) of Rs 447.2 crore in October-December 2022-23 and Earnings Before Interest, <keyword id="6368033" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="taxes" source="Orion">Taxes</keyword>, Depreciation, and <keyword id="990685" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="amortisation" source="Orion">Amortisation</keyword> (EBITDA) of Rs 1,268.6 crore. JSW Infrastructure files draft papers; eyes ₹2,800 cr via IPO

This may come as a surprise to many but the government (both central and state authorities) has helped <keyword id="53533" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="entrepreneurs">entrepreneurs</keyword> in India in an unexpected manner – by failing in some functions, which it is expected to perform by default. I have been analysing the start-up ecosystem in India for some time now and have come across many entrepreneurs who succeeded just because the government failed to provide the required services to the citizens. Not only did these entrepreneurs step in to fill the gap, but they also provided livelihood and jobs to many others. In this article, I have tried to bring out 4 such areas where the enterprising minds found their opportunities. 
 
1. <keyword id="54464" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="potable-water">Potable water</keyword>: Every morning, we see scores of pick-up vehicles laden with plastic canisters supplying drinking water to homes and offices. The failure of the government to provide sufficient and quality potable water has provided an opportunity to entrepreneurs to step in. Over a period of time, supplying potable water has become such a lucrative business that it has created gold for companies ranging from billion-dollar corporations to small-time entrepreneurs – thus creating a multi-billion-dollar industry. 
 
2. <keyword id="1927173" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Power-generators-and-inverters">Power generators and inverters</keyword>: The power situation in India is far from satisfactory and with the rising consumption of electricity, the gap between demand and supply is getting wider by the day. Many entrepreneurs have seen an opportunity there and now provide a number of solutions – from solar lanterns suitable for one-room huts in villages to huge power generators installed in factories and offices. 
 
3. <keyword id="142710" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Security-agencies">Security agencies</keyword>: Security of life and property should be the prior concern of the government. But with the rapid rise in urbanisation across India, the security set-up has failed to cope up with the requirements of the growing population in the cities. The government agencies have failed to provide the required level of security and this has given a chance to private security agencies to provide services to home, offices, factories and apartment buildings. Thousands of people are employed by these private security agencies, providing security services to lakhs and more. So much so that a few Indian private security agencies have started taking up international assignments as well. 
 
4. <keyword id="6356028" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sports">Sports</keyword>: Of late, the best of the sports people in India do not come from government academies. Majority of the Indian boxers, who have been dominating world boxing, have come from the private sports clubs in Haryana. Similarly, Indian shuttlers, who have recently made their mark in world badminton, have all trained at a private academy in Hyderabad. And there are scores of private academies honing cricketers and other sports people in India. 
 
Also, most of us are aware of the mess created by the government agencies in managing the Commonwealth Games. In stark contrast is the organisation and management of the Indian Grand Prix, held at Budh International Circuit or even the recently started Indian Badminton League. The success of such sports events have inspired many other entrepreneurs to come forward and they are now planning similar events for other disciplines as well. 
 But the <keyword id="100363" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-entrepreneurs">Indian entrepreneurs</keyword>’ ability to make the best of the situation (where we find below-average services) is not limited to the four areas I have picked up to discuss. If we look around, we will find many such areas where entrepreneurs have picked up the loose ends and provided the missing links. 
 
So there is a ray of hope for other entrepreneurs as similar opportunities are waiting to be explored. Just look around and you might be able to identify the next big start-up for such services.

Succeeded Because Government Failed

Taking lessons from the <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> episode, in which its major investor <keyword id="163404" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Softbank">SoftBank</keyword> took decision to sell-out the online marketplace, <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword>’s parent company modified regulatory terms and gave more powers to the owners. <keyword id="4545821" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ani-technologies-private-limited">ANI Technologies Private Limited</keyword>, which owns and operates India’s top ride-hailing app Ola, amended the Articles of Association and modified some of the regulatory terms to give greater control to Ola founders Bhavish Aggarwal and Ankit Bhati. As per the revised terms, SoftBank, which is Ola’s biggest stakeholder, and its affiliates need approval from Aggarwal, Bhati and company's board to purchase any additional shares of the company from other stakeholders. SoftBank will own over 30% stake in Ola after the last financing round. "The measures are aimed at giving the founders more power, even as they continue to dilute their shareholding to (access more capital) and take on Uber,” a banker who tracks the company closely told ET. Aggarwal and Bhati will also be issued additional shares in Ola to ensure their holding does not fall below 10.9% from the current 12.01%. ET reported they may get an additional four lakh shares, which will be worth Rs 520 crore. This move comes after SoftBank initiated talks of Snapdeal’s sellout to <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>, which reflects concerns of deep-pocketed investors taking major decisions. Snapdeal's CEO Kunal Bahl, in an email to employees in April, wrote that "our investors are driving the discussions around the way forward, for the company. Ola raised $250 million from SoftBank at a valuation of around $3 billion in November 2016. During the negotiation for the round, SoftBank had offered to invest close to $1 billion in Ola which would have given it a controlling stake in Ola, one source told ET. "But Aggarwal decided to take less money from SoftBank and raise more capital from other investors, both existing and new,” ET quoted sources.

Tata Sons executive chairman <keyword id="97017" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="N-Chandrasekaran">N Chandrasekaran</keyword> has purchased 1 lakh shares of <keyword id="6370462" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-communications">Tata Communications</keyword> from secondary market, according to a regulatory filing. "We have received an intimation from N Chandrasekaran , executive chairman, <keyword id="8928715" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-sons-private-limited">Tata Sons Private Limited</keyword> regarding his purchase of 1,00,000 equity shares of <keyword id="628844" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Communications-Limited">Tata Communications Limited</keyword> at an average price of Rs 249.15, excluding brokerage and STT, per share as on March 16, 2020," Tata <keyword id="6379089" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="communications">Communications</keyword> said in a BSE filing. Shares of Tata Communications closed at Rs 226 a unit, down by 7.92 per cent compared to previous close, at BSE on Wednesday.

Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran buys 1 lakh shares in Tata Communications

Billionaire Mukesh Ambani's <keyword id="6487" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance-Industries-Ltd">Reliance Industries Ltd</keyword> has bought Britain's iconic country club and luxury golf resort, Stoke <keyword id="6379196" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="PARK">Park</keyword>, for 57 million pounds (about ₹592 crore). The acquisition adds to <keyword id="10926" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance">Reliance</keyword>'s current stake in Oberoi hotels and hotel/managed residences in Mumbai that it's developing. Over the past four years, Reliance has announced USD 3.3 billion in acquisitions with 14 per cent in retail, 80 per cent in technology, media, and telecom (TMT) sector, and 6 per cent in energy. The UK-based firm, which owns a hotel and golf course in Buckinghamshire, UK, will add to Reliance's consumer and hospitality assets, the firm said in a filing late on Thursday. "Reliance Industrial Investments and Holdings Ltd (RIIHL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of <keyword id="45442" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance-Industries-Limited">Reliance Industries Limited</keyword>, has on April 22, 2021, acquired the entire issued share capital of Stoke Park Limited, a company incorporated in the United Kingdom, for 57 million pounds," it said. Stoke Park Limited owns and manages sporting and leisure facilities in Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire, UK. The facilities include a hotel, conference facilities, sports facilities and one of the highest rated golf courses in Europe. "RIIHL will look to enhance the sports and leisure facilities at this heritage site, while fully complying with the planning guidelines and local regulations," Reliance said. This acquisition will add to the consumer and hospitality footprint of the oil-to-telecom conglomerate. The group already has investments in EIH Ltd (Oberoi Hotels) and is developing state-of-the-art convention centre, hotel and managed residences in BKC Mumbai. This is the second major acquisition of an iconic British company by Ambani, 64. He bought British's iconic toy store Hamleys in 2019, to strengthen its retail footprint. Stoke Park has always had a close relationship to Pinewood Studios and the British film industry. Two James Bond movies -- Goldfinger (1964) and Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) were filmed at Stoke Park. The epic duel between James Bond (<keyword id="6528947" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="sean-connery">Sean Connery</keyword>) and Goldfinger (Gert Frobe) is still considered to be the most famous game of golf in cinematic history, the Park stated on its website. Scenes like mini-break and rowing scenes from Bridget Jones's Diary (2001) starring Hugh Grant, Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth were also filmed at the estate with the Georgian-era mansion set in the midst of 300 acres of parkland. Stoke Park hosts 49 luxury bedrooms and suits, 27-hole golf course, 13 tennis courts and 14 acres of private gardens. Although the Stoke Park estate has a recorded history of over 900 years, it was used as a private residence until 1908, according to its official website.
