The <keyword id="22407175" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="U-WIN" source="keywords">U-WIN</keyword> portal, a replication of the <keyword id="19897423" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="COVID-19" source="keywords">Covid-19</keyword> vaccine management system Co-WIN, is set for a pan-India launch likely by the end of August, aiming to maintain an electronic registry of routine immunisations, official sources said. Currently, U-WIN is in pilot mode across all states and Union Territories, except for West Bengal, which is yet to start uploading data, the sources told PTI, adding that it is still under consideration in the state. The U-WIN platform captures every <keyword id="19933690" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vaccination" source="keywords">vaccination</keyword> event for pregnant women and children under the Universal Immunization Programme (UIP). Minister of Finance <keyword id="19916618" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nirmala-sitharaman" source="keywords">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword> had announced in the interim Budget for 2024-2025 that U-WIN, along with intensified efforts under Mission Indradhanush, will be rolled out nationwide for managing <keyword id="21423640" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="immunisation" source="keywords">immunisation</keyword>. "The U-WIN will ensure timely administration of vaccine doses by digitally recording every vaccination event under the Universal Immunisation Programme among all pregnant women and children aged 0-5 years," an official told PTI. "The portal will target 2.9 crore pregnant women and 2.6 crore infants (0-1 years) annually by providing 11 vaccines against 12 vaccine preventable diseases -- diphtheria, measles, rubella, and tetanus through more than 1.2 crore vaccination sessions across the country," the official added. The platform generates a uniform QR-based, digitally verifiable e-vaccination certificate, similar to Covid vaccination certificate, which can be accessed anytime by the citizens through a single click. Vaccination records under UIP are being maintained manually as of now. So this will do away with the hassle of keeping a physical record, the officials explained. It will enable the digitisation of session planning, and updating vaccination status on a real-time basis, they added. "Also, there is no mechanism of individual tracking. There is also lack of awareness among beneficiaries about session location and date especially in urban areas and iniquity in immunisation coverage in states and UTs," another official said. "Besides, another major issue is that immunisation at private health facilities is not recorded," the official added. The U-WIN is going to be the single source of information for immunisation services which will record pregnancy details and outcome, newborn registration and immunisation at birth. It will update vaccination status, and delivery outcome, among others, on real time, the official said. As of July 9, 2024, the pilot has registered 5.33 crore beneficiaries on U-WIN. Over 83.55 lakh vaccination sessions have been digitally conducted, and 18.15 crore vaccine doses have been recorded. The platform aims to reduce zero-dose and left-out children through a name-based tracking mechanism and empower citizens with anytime, anywhere access to vaccination services, particularly benefiting migratory populations, the official said. "The U-WIN portal is likely to be launched pan <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword> in August end," the official stated. Citizens can self-register for vaccinations via the U-WIN web portal or its Android mobile application, select preferred vaccination centres, and schedule appointments. Automated SMS alerts inform citizens about registration confirmations, administered doses, and upcoming dose reminders, ensuring timely and age-appropriate vaccinations. It also facilitates the creation of Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs for comprehensive health record maintenance. The U-WIN also supports the frontline workers to digitally record all vaccination events for children and pregnant women for complete, accurate and easy record maintenance, the official said.

Pan-India rollout of U-WIN to track routine immunisations likely by Aug end

<ul><li>Sixty percent of the children across 10 countries, including <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>, have not been given the basic vaccination coverage. </li><li><keyword id="6366244" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="who">WHO</keyword> asked the Southeast Asia region to accelerate its efforts to reach the unvaccinated children. </li><li>It also commended India’s efforts for its vaccination drive called <keyword id="6438260" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="mission-indradhanush">Mission Indradhanush</keyword>. </li></ul>According to the recent WHO-UNICEF <a href="http://www.who.int/immunization/monitoring_surveillance/data/ind.pdf">report </a>on immunisation released this week, India still lags behind in the <keyword id="1368461" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="routine-immunisation-programme">routine immunisation programme</keyword>. As per the figures released, an estimated 20 million additional children globally, still have not been vaccinated with diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis or DTP3, which is considered to be the basic vaccination coverage. Sixty percent of these 20 million kids are in 10 countries which includes India. The Southeast Asian region registers about 37 million births annually and about 88% of these newborns get the basic vaccination coverage of three doses of DTP, annually. Of all the <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/national/who-calls-efforts-reach-681843.html">infants </a>who do not even have the <keyword id="6718067" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="DTP-3-vaccination">DTP-3 vaccination</keyword>, almost eight million (40 per cent) live in fragile or humanitarian settings, including countries affected by conflict. For <keyword id="6718068" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="universal-immunisation-coverage">universal immunisation coverage</keyword>, more collaborative efforts are needed to break down socio-cultural barriers and penetrate remote areas. Their progress needs to be closely monitored, according to WHO. The main aim remains for all countries to provide equitable access to high-quality, safe, efficacious, affordable vaccines and immunisation programmes. Vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) which is the most common viral infection of the reproductive tract, and can cause cervical cancer and genital warts, was introduced in 80 countries. While these are relatively recent, the vaccines to prevent major killers of children like rotavirus and pneumonia have been around for more than a decade. In 2017, the global coverage of these diseases was still noted just as 28% and 44% respectively. If put to correct use, these vaccinations have the potential to reach the Sustainable Development Goal of reducing deaths of children under five years of age. The <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/health/india-still-lags-behind-in-routine-immunization-programme-who-unicef-report/article24446637.ece?homepage=true">global vaccination coverage</a>, that is the proportion of the world’s children who receive recommended vaccines, has remained constant over the past few years. Since 2015, the reach of DTP-3 vaccination has been stagnant at 85%, which accounts for about 116.2 million infants, globally. However, it is important to note that there has also been some progress in the arena of universal vaccination. In 2017, 4.6 million more infants have been vaccinated globally against figures in 2010 because of population growth. Newly available vaccines are furthermore being added to the life-saving vaccination package that includes vaccines against diseases like Ebola, malaria and meningitis. On Tuesday, WHO had asked the Southeast Asia region, including India, to accelerate its efforts to reach nearly five million unvaccinated children. It, nevertheless, commended the efforts of some of the countries for their vaccination drives including India’s Mission Indradhanush which aims to reach about 190 districts. Despite all numerical stagnations as far as vaccinations are concerned, the region continues to be polio-free and maintains its maternal and neonatal tetanus elimination status.

More than 22 million <keyword id="33549" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="infants" source="Orion">infants</keyword> have missed their first dose of <keyword id="405262" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="measles-vaccine" source="Orion">measles vaccine</keyword> in 2020 due to the <keyword id="8763838" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="COVID-19" source="Orion">Covid-19</keyword> pandemic -- marking the largest increase in two decades and creating dangerous conditions for outbreaks to occur, according to a joint report from the World Health Organization (<keyword id="6366244" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="WHO" source="Orion">WHO</keyword>) and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Thursday. The number of unvaccinated children in 2020 is 3 million more than in 2019 -- marking the largest increase in two decades. The estimated number of measles cases in 2020 was 7.5 million globally, with major outbreaks occurring in 26 countries. However, compared with 2019, the reported measles cases decreased by more than 80 per cent in 2020. This could also be attributed to decrease in measles surveillance with the lowest number of specimens sent for laboratory testing in over a decade, the report said. Poor measles monitoring, testing and reporting can jeopardise countries' ability to prevent outbreaks of this highly infectious disease. "Large numbers of unvaccinated children, outbreaks of measles, and disease detection and diagnostics diverted to support Covid-19 responses are factors that increase the likelihood of measles-related deaths and serious complications in children," said <keyword id="12509963" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kevin-cain" source="Orion">Kevin Cain</keyword>, MD, CDC's Global Immunisation Director, in a statement. "While reported measles cases dropped in 2020, evidence suggests we are likely seeing the calm before the storm as the risk of outbreaks continues to grow around the world," added Dr Kate O'Brien, Director of WHO's Department of Immunisation, Vaccines and Biologicals. In 2020, the first-dose coverage fell, and only 70 per cent of children received their second dose measles vaccine, well below the 95 per cent coverage needed to protect communities from the spread of the measles virus. Adding to the worsening of immunity gaps worldwide, 24 measles vaccination campaigns in 23 countries, originally planned for 2020, were postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic -- leaving more than 93 million people at risk for the disease. These supplemental campaigns are needed where people have missed out on measles-containing vaccines through routine immunisation programmes. "It's critical that countries vaccinate as quickly as possible against Covid-19, but this requires new resources so that it does not come at the cost of essential immunisation programmes. Routine immunisation must be protected and strengthened; otherwise, we risk trading one deadly disease for another," O'Brien noted. Measles is one of the world's most contagious human viruses but is almost entirely preventable through vaccination. In the last 20 years, the measles vaccine is estimated to have averted more than 30 million deaths globally. Estimated deaths from measles dropped from around 1,070,000 in 2000 to 60,700 in 2020. Measles transmission within communities is not only a clear indicator of poor measles vaccination coverage, but also a known marker, or 'tracer,' that vital health services are not reaching populations most at risk. By Payal Banerjee and Uzmi Athar New Delhi, May 24 () The hampering of routine immunisation of children against 'old enemies' like diphtheria, measles, tetanus and polio during the two-month coronavirus lockdown has triggered serious concerns about a possible resurgence of such vaccine-preventable diseases among them, according to experts. A report brought out by the World Health Organisation said that world over at least 80 million children under the age of one year are at risk of diseases like diphtheria, measles and polio as COVID-19 outbreak disrupted routine vaccination efforts. An estimated 20-22 lakh children across the country under the age of one are targeted for vaccination under national programmes every month which translates into approximately 260 lakh children per year, according to official sources. In the first two phases of the lockdown that spanned 40 days, people could not reach immunisation camps due to unavailability of transport facilities while several states themselves had temporarily suspended vaccination sessions as they were busy in preparations to deal with the pandemic. According to sources, when the lockdown was announced, states like UP and Bihar, which constitute almost 30 per cent of the national birth cohort (under one year), had stopped vaccination programmes including sessions held in villages, while states like Odisha, Rajasthan, Kerala and Delhi also had paused such drives for a few days. "Several states had stopped the routine healthcare activities, including immunisation, and the disruption may have led to over 15 lakh children missing out on vaccination completely or partially. States have resumed their services, but have a huge backlog to cover," Chhaya Pachauli, member of the Jan Swasthya Abhiyan (JSA), a national platform that co-ordinates activities on healthcare across the country, said. "With its routine immunisation programmes, India has made significant strides in terms of protecting its children from infectious diseases like polio, measles, tetanus and diphtheria over the years and a delay in vaccination may lead to disastrous results," she said. However, no official figure was available on how many children missed vaccination during the lockdown period. According to government sources, many children may have missed immunisation in the initial days of the lockdown but all the states have subsequently resumed the immunisation programmes following talks with the Union health ministry which asked them not to halt vaccination especially in green zones and outside the buffer zones. "While many other countries stopped immunisation totally due to lockdown and non-supply of vaccines to the session sites, India was able to tide over the situation because of the continuous push from the Centre and the supply chain was also steadily maintained," an official source said. "After the Union health ministry issued guidelines on carrying out immunisation during COVID-19 outbreak, the states are geared up not only to resume the drive but also to cover the huge backlog," the source said. According to Dr Yogesh Jain, public health physician at NGO Jan Swasthya Sahayog, the number of children who may have missed vaccination could be way over 15 lakh. "And the bigger point here is that this missing of vaccine dose is not only a process indicator of how our health systems have failed in the setting of COVID-19, but it actually means a major impact on the outcomes on childhood survival," Jain said. "Because the vaccines we presently give look at old enemies like diptheria, tetanus, measles and polio and bring back home the greatest fear we had regarding impact of COVID-19 on the health systems. Yes, we will lose some people due to COVID-19 but the much larger impact would be the non-COVID causes of death of which the vaccine-preventable will be one major group," Jain said. A recent online study conducted by Child Rights and You about 'understanding the effects of COVID- 19 on children' found that 49 per cent of parents or primary caregivers of children aged 0-5 years stated that they could not get access to basic child healthcare such as immunisation during the lockdown. The impact of non-immunization will be aggravated with the compromised immune system, especially in the vulnerable populations, and push many children towards life-threatening diseases and infections, the CRY said in a statement. "Global fraternity of science and research is trying to develop the vaccine for COVID-19 and in the meantime, the entire world is struggling with the spread and impact of the virus, including India. The irony is we are not even able to provide the already available vaccination to life-threatening diseases in the lockdown situation," it said. India needs to be ready to fight back with equipped and adequate frontline health workers, availability of vaccination supply chain, supplementary nutrition packages, improved food and nutrition system, PPE gears for frontline staff and quality improvement of community-based health services like Primary Health Centers, it said. Anindit Roy-Chowdhury, Director for Programme, Policy and Impact, at child rights NGO Save the Children said access to essential health services in India has become a tremendous concern along with the availability of nutritious food for children. Quoting WHO's figures that 80 million children have missed their regular immunisation cycle world over, Chowdhury said though the exact numbers are hard to estimate in India, the fact remains that a large proportion of children in the country will be missing their immunisation cycles. "This is even more true for the most marginalised, the urban and the rural poor. Also, migrant labourer families who have now moved back to their villages have unfortunately not been able to prioritise their children's immunisation... because food and shelter have become the greatest concern," Chowdhury said. The Union health ministry on May 21 issued guidelines stating birth dose vaccinations at health facilities would continue irrespective of the categorisation of zones amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In other cases, providing vaccination doses will only be allowed outside the containment and buffer zones, and in green zones. An area enlisted as a ''containment or buffer zone'' should stop health facility-based sessions and outreach sessions, but someone who walks into a health facility to get their child vaccinated should not be turned away. COVID-19 impact: Concern over possible resurgence of vaccine-preventable diseases among children

Bengaluru, Oct 24 (IANS) Healthcare warriors, including doctors, nurses and paramedics would be the first to get vaccinated for Covid immunity when introduced, said Karnataka Health Minister K. Sudhakar on Friday. "Healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses, paramedics and support staff in state-run and private hospitals will be the first beneficiaries of the vaccine when released by the central government," said Sudhakar in a statement here. The central government is preparing to introduce a proven vaccine across the country after its approval by its Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). "We are collecting data of healthcare workers as per guidelines and standard operating procedures of the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry," said the minister, who is in-charge of containing the pandemic in the state. Noting that the central government would announce the launch date of the vaccine after its production was commenced, Sudhakar said other priority groups, including senior citizens and people with co-morbidities would be vaccinated in a phased manner after the healthcare warriors. "The state government will use the cold chain system of routine immunisation under universal immunization programme (UIP) for storing the vaccine when made available to the state by the Centre," noted Sudhakar. The cold chain facility for storing the vaccine will be made available in all the 30 districts across the southern state. The healthcare warriors across the state also include ANMs (auxiliary nurse-midwives), ASHAs (accredited social health activists), Anganwadi workers, medical officers, scientists and research staff and all those working in the healthcare sector. "The state is undertaking IEC (information, education communication) activities through various fora to reach all the health facilities in government and private for timely data collection," added Sudhakar. All professional bodies, including IMA, PHANA and IAP are being involved. K'taka healthcare warriors first to get Covid vaccine: Minister

Hyderabad, Jan 15 (IANS) The stage is set for Covid-19 vaccination rollout in Telangana where 4,000 healthcare workers in government-run facilities will receive the first dose on Saturday. Health authorities have made all arrangements to vaccinate the beneficiaries at 139 centres spread across all 33 districts in the state. Health minister Eatala Rajender and director of medical education Ramesh Reddy will receive the vaccine at Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad. Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan will participate in vaccine rollout programme at Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS). Ministers, members of Parliament, members of state legislative assembly and council and public representatives down to the level of village sarpanchs will participate in the programme in district and area hospitals and in primary health centres in rural and urban areas. Director of public health G. Srinivas Rao said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the programme in virtual mode at 10.30 a.m. Arrangements have been made for two-way communication at two vaccinations centres at Gandhi Hospital and a rural health centre at Narsingi. A maximum of 30 beneficiaries will be vaccinated at each centre. The numbers will be ramped up in phases from Monday and in coming days this will reach the maximum level of 100 per centre. Majority of beneficiaries during the first few days of the vaccination drive will comprise staff from sanitation and security wings of teaching, hospitals, district hospitals and area hospitals and ASHA, Anganwadi and other workers at primary health centres . The state health authorities have identified 3.15 lakh healthcare workers in government and private institutions and registered them in Cowin application, especially developed for Covid vaccination. The number of centres for vaccination will also be increased gradually from Monday and in next few days the programme will be conducted at all 1,213 centres depending on the availability of the vaccine doses. Srinivas Rao said Covid vaccine will be given between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday while routine vaccination programme for children and women will continue every Wednesday and Saturday. There will be no vaccination on Sundays and public holidays. The state has so far received 3.74 lakh doses from union ministry of health and family welfare and they were stored in 2-8-degree temperature. The authorities have already transported over 50, 000 doses to the districts. The authorities reassured beneficiaries that both Covishield and Covaxin approved for emergency use by Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) were safe and that there is no need for any apprehensions. When his attention was drawn to reports that some doctors were not ready to take Covaxin as its third phase trials were not completed, director of public health said there should be no discrimination between vaccines. He said as per Government of India guidelines consent will be taken from those who will be receiving Covaxin shot. Their health status will be examined and scrutinised before giving the vaccine and after vaccination they will be monitored for seven days for any adverse events. Similar process will be followed after the second dose which will be given after four weeks. "We should be proud that Covaxin has been developed indigenously and that too on the soil of Telangana. Nobody should have any worried. If necessary, I will take Covaxin in coming days," he said. The officials said they were strictly following the protocols prescribed by the union ministry and the directions of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to deal with any case of reaction following Covid vaccination. An observation room has been set up at each centre where every beneficiary will be monitored for 30 minutes after vaccination. The department has arranged vehicles to shift anybody who may develop some reaction after taking the vaccine. Intensive care units with 5-10 beds have been set up at 57 hospitals across the state to tackle such cases. This arrangement will be in place for entire period of vaccination which may last eight to nine months. "We vaccinate lakhs of people every year under routine immunisation programme. Reactions like pain and developing fever are not uncommon after taking vaccines. One in lakhs may have adverse reaction after vaccination and we are fully geared up to deal with this," said Ramesh Reddy. He hopes that Covid vaccination will weaken intensity of the disease as happened in the case of Swine Flu. "After taking vaccination antibodies will be developed to face the infection. T cells get activated and antibodies kill that particular virus. If this happens we will break the cycle and if we break cycle, the disease will die natural death. <keyword id="5629" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sydney">Sydney</keyword>, <keyword id="10337291" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="pneumonia-vaccines">Pneumonia vaccines</keyword> can potentially reduce the impact of viruses such as Covid-19, said researchers, adding that it has reduced illness and death in patients with <keyword id="6363125" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pneumonia">pneumonia</keyword>, serious lung conditions and rotavirus, a common disease which causes severe diarrhoea and vomiting. The University of Melbourne-led research team, which worked with <keyword id="10337292" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-fiji-ministry-of-health-and-medical-services">the Fiji Ministry of Health and Medical Services</keyword>, said the results underline the importance of vaccines and how they can potentially reduce the impact of viruses such as Covid-19. Published in the journal 'Lancet Regional Health - Western Pacific', the first study looked at Fiji's national rotavirus vaccine programme five years after it became the first independent Pacific island country to introduce the vaccine in 2012. According to the researchers, rotavirus is severely contagious and the most common cause of diarrhoeal disease among infants and young children. It can even cause death in extreme cases. After taking the vaccine, morbidity and mortality due to rotavirus and all-cause diarrhoea in Fiji fell in those aged two months to 55 years. Rotavirus diarrhoea admissions at the largest hospital among children aged under five fell by 87 per cent. These reductions were most likely due to the vaccine as rotavirus diarrhoeal outbreaks remained blunted for the five years after vaccine introduction. At the same time, in 2012, the Fiji government introduced a routine infant immunisation schedule for ten-valent pneumococcal conjugate (PCV10) vaccine using three primary doses and no booster dose. Published in 'The Lancet Global Health', this second study looked at hospital admission rates for children with pneumonia at three Fiji public tertiary hospitals. Five years after the vaccine was introduced, hospital admissions for all-cause pneumonia had fallen for children aged 24-59 months. Mortality was down by 39 per cent among children aged two to 24 months who were admitted to hospitals with all-case pneumonia, bronchiolitis and asthma. The study showed the effect of PCV10 vaccine and supported its introduction for children in other low and middle-income countries in that region. "These results provide supportive evidence of the probable benefits of PCV10 in reducing pneumonia in children in Fiji," said study lead researcher Fiona Russell from the Murdoch Children's Research Institute and <keyword id="6200092" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-University-of-Melbourne">the University of Melbourne</keyword>.

Hyderbad, Global <keyword id="6354750" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="health">health</keyword>care company GSK, non-profit agency working to end health inequity PATH, and <keyword id="9254290" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="vaccine-maker-bharat-biotech">vaccine maker Bharat Biotech</keyword> on Wednesday announced the signing of a product transfer agreement for malaria vaccine RTS,S/AS01E1. The agreement includes the transfer of manufacturing of the RTS,S antigen part of the vaccine and the grant of a license on all rights pertaining to the RTS,S/AS01 malaria vaccine to Hyderabad-based <keyword id="149108" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharat-Biotech">Bharat Biotech</keyword> International Ltd (BBIL). GSK will retain the production of the adjuvant of the vaccine (AS01E) and will supply it to Bharat Biotech. BBIL was selected through a comprehensive, competitive process undertaken by GSK and PATH, working in consultation with the <keyword id="6356311" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="World-Health-Organisation">World Health Organisation</keyword> (WHO), the vaccine maker said in a statement here. The RTS,S/AS01E malaria vaccine, developed by GSK for more than 30 years, and in partnership with PATH since 2001, is currently being piloted in regions of Ghana, Kenya, and Malawi under the Malaria Vaccine Implementation Programme (MVIP). Ministries of Health concerned are leading the implementation of the vaccine, which is being given to young children through the three countries' routine immunisation programmes, with WHO providing technical and scientific leadership, playing a coordinating role, and working in collaboration with GSK, PATH, and a range of <keyword id="10662236" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="other-partners">other partners</keyword>. RTS,S/AS01E is the first, and to date, the only malaria vaccine to have received a positive review by regulatory authorities (positive scientific opinion from the <keyword id="114599" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="European-Medicines-Agency">European Medicines Agency</keyword> and approval by the regulatory authorities of Ghana, Kenya, and Malawi for use in the MVIP). The first dose of the vaccine has reached more than 500,000 children since the pilots were initiated by Ministries of Health in the three participating countries in 2019. This agreement with BBIL is the result of efforts by GSK, PATH, and WHO to help ensure long-term sustainable vaccine supply, in the event of a WHO policy recommendation for broader use and a commitment of sustained funding. This builds on existing GSK commitments to donate up to 10 million RTS,S/AS01E doses for use in the pilot, and to supply up to 15 million doses annually until 2028 if the product is recommended for wider use by WHO. It is expected that by 2029, at the latest, BBIL will be the sole supplier of the vaccine, with GSK supplying the adjuvant AS01E to them. "With a child still dying of malaria every two minutes, helping secure the long-term future of the only vaccine available by working with an established leader like Bharat Biotech is vital for the continued fight against this devastating disease. GSK is delighted to sign this agreement with Bharat Biotech," said Thomas Breuer, GSK Vaccines Chief Medical Officer and Vaccines Global Health lead.
