Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> has finally broken his silence on the JNU row. As per reports, at the BJP Parliamentary party executive committee meeting, he asked BJP lawmakers to not shy away from debating aggressively on the JNU issue in Parliament. 
 In the <keyword id="48510" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rajya-Sabha">Rajya Sabha</keyword> today, the ruling party and the opposition will be debating on the JNU incident and Rohith Vemula's suicide case; both cases have garnered much attention in the country in the recent past. 
 
If the reports are to be believed, the opposition has planned to target the way the government handled the JNU incident. They will apparently bring up the issue of police being sent to the university campus at night and slapping the students with tough sedition charges. This is the reason why Modi wants his government to be well-prepared for the heated arguments. 
 
The lawmakers are asked to be confident about their work, and are legally strong, since raising anti-national slogan amounts to sedition in the books of law. 
 
Allegedly, the ruling party can also bring up the arrest of Kashmiri terrorist Muhammad Ghauri from JNU during Congress-led UPA rule.

PM Modi asks BJP members to aggressively debate on JNU incident in Rajya Sabha today

Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>, who was in Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Lucknow as a chief guest on convocation, was disrupted by protesters, who were eventually escorted out. 
 
Modi’s speech was disrupted when students started chanting anti-Modi slogans. 
 
“Narendra Modi Murdabad,” students raised. 
 
 
 
Meanwhile, Modi also broke his silence on the suicide of Dalit scholar in Hyderabad. 
 
“When I received this news that a young man Rohith committed suicide, I thought about the condition of his parents,” said Modi. 
 
Students are protesting Rohith’s suicide, demaning a probe into it. HRD Minister Smriti Irani said it was not a Dalit vs non-Dalit battle. 
 
Modi hinted that these issues should not be politicised. 
 
“There must have been reasons, politics is different. The truth that India lost her son,” said Modi.

Linking the Rohith Vemula and <keyword id="3048656" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kanhaiya-Kumar">Kanhaiya Kumar</keyword> issues with rights of the marginalised, Congress leader <keyword id="5268" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rahul-Gandhi">Rahul Gandhi</keyword> today accused the <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> government of "crushing" the weak and the poor who demand their rights. 
 
He also said Union ministers and BJP leaders were free to carry out personalised attacks against him but they should not "crush the poor and the weak for whom I speak." 
"Tribals from Bastar met me today. They said they are facing atrocities in Chhattisgarh's Bastar and that they are being threatened and crushed. 
 
"Country will not benefit by beating and threatening people. You pressurised Rohith Vemula in Hyderabad, here you are pressurising Kanhaiya and our students," the Congress Vice President told reporters here. 
 
He alleged that wherever the poor is seeking rights, "be it farmer, dalit, tribal or small trader --small traders came to me -- wherever a weak person is raising voice, NDA government, Modi government is trying to crush it." 
 
These people are the strength of India and no one will benefit by crushing them, he said. 
 
 
"If you have to take action, do it. Those who break law, take action. But by crushing, threatening and beating the poor won't help the country," Rahul said. 
 In an apparent reference to Modi's remarks in the <keyword id="6355187" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> that "some people age but do not mature", Rahul said the PM and his Cabinet colleagues are free to attack him. "Modi attacked me personally. His party colleagues are attacking me personally on a daily basis," he said. <keyword id="6355261" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Finance-minister">Finance Minister</keyword> <keyword id="42575" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arun-Jaitley">Arun Jaitley</keyword> recently took a dig at the Congress Vice-President over his Lok Sabha speech and said "the more I hear Rahul Gandhi, the more I start wondering how much does he know -- when will he know". 
 
"As one evolves from a young to a middle-aged one, we certainly expect a certain level of maturity," Jaitley had said in a Facebook post reacting to Gandhi's remarks that Prime Minister Modi does not consult his senior ministers on policy issues. 
 
"Do as much personal attacks as you want. But don't crush the poor, the weak for whom I speak. Hit me as much you want. Attack me as much you want. Speak for as long as you want to, but don't hit the poor people of the country," Rahul stressed.

Irani was mired in a controversy over her claims of possessing a Yale degree. Secondly, she scrapped the four-year format at the Delhi University and went back with the three-year format, which was against the wishes of the VC and UGC. 
 
The HRD Ministry was also at loggerheads with the Niti Ayog over accreditation and other issues. Experts say Irani took Niti Ayog as interference. 
 
Her handling of suicide case of Dalit scholar at Hyderabad Central University, Rohith Vemula, was also criticised by many. 
 
The recent Jawaharlal Nehru University row involving Kanhaiya Kumar also didn’t add to her sheen. Irani also played with fire when replaced German with Sanskrit as the third language in Kendriya Vidyalayas in 2014. 
 
Irani was also at the centre of the controversy when she was accused of intervening in the affairs of IIT-Delhi prompting the resignation of Director RK Shevgaonkar, two years before his term.

Rahul Gandhi created a history of sorts on Thursday. He lost the Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, which no Congress leader ever did since 1980. Irani won, albeit with a margin of over 55,000 votes with Rahul emerging as the runner-up. Congress grip loosens <keyword id="6612" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Smriti-Irani">Smriti Irani</keyword> a former model, actress and union HRD minister achieved something only one person ever did---a non-Congress candidate who won from the seat. It has been with the party since 1967, ever since it was created. Only Rajendra Pratap Singh of Janata Party had it post-emergency between 1977-80. Irani might have gained from the Modi wave in the state and exasperation of the public against the Gandhi family who has been showing up only for elections. When Rahul sensed the turning tide, he decided to contest from Waynad when she accused him of “running”. The stage for this victory was set in 2014 itself when BJP fielded Irani against Gandhi. Until then, few parties ever bothered to field their best candidates which includes regional parties like Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Samajwadi Party (SP). BJP refused to back down on this Congress stronghold which brought on this victory today. Last elections too, she managed to reduce Rahul’s margin who won only by a lakh votes. The firebrand Irani is a well-known face across the country, thanks to being a lead star in a soap opera which ran for over 15 years, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (Every mother-in-law was once was a daughter-in-law) She had played a soft spoken and hence an ideal wife in the hit TV series. But she blossomed to become one of the most outspoken of ministers in Modi’s cabinet which is not actually known for diplomatic people. She had come down on people in favour of Narendra Modi, the prime minister. Her speeches ranged from angry to emotional to exasperation; taking her leader’s word to media channels across issues. She<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PlGs8NCMWE"> defended her government</a> for charging Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students with sedition law, saying they have been engaged in “unlawful activities”. Irani has in fact been called ‘Modi’s Sushma’ after she comfortably took up the mantle as veteran BJP politician Sushma Swaraj moved away from active politics. However, it is interesting to note that Irani who is mentored by late union telecom minister Pramod Mahajan never started as a Modi fan. In fact, she had blamed Modi for BJP’s<a href="https://www.outlookindia.com/newswire/story/smriti-irani-drama-slams-modi-first-withdraws-statement-hours-later/267055"> loss in 2004</a>, and said that it is unethical of him to stay on in power after the Gujarat riots. Just like Modi, she made a comeback, and that too to a historic success.
