<keyword id="400990" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Micromax-Informatics">Micromax Informatics</keyword>, the mobile phone maker company from Gurugram has decided to invest up to Rs 600 crore over the next three years in a bid to turn into a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Micromax-is-going-to-disrupt-consumer-electronics-space-wants-to-MNC-challenger/articleshow/52684641.cms">consumer electronics</a> company. 
 The company, which was founded in 2000, expects that its consumer <keyword id="4245827" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="durable-products">durable products</keyword> would make up about a fourth of its total revenue over the coming three years, with products ranging from washing machines to new range of air conditioners and televisions. 
 It was in 2013 that <keyword id="71696" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Micromax">Micromax</keyword> had ventured into consumer durables, prior to which it only dealt in mobiles. 
 
With a huge budget kept aside, the company aims to join the leaders of air conditioner market, regardless of the stiff competition.

 "Our strategy of connected devices under the broader view of being a consumer electronics company will take a step up with new air conditioner models and then with washing machines," <keyword id="1071660" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rohan-Agarwal">Rohan Agarwal</keyword>, VP (<keyword id="4245821" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="consumer-electronics-business">Consumer Electronics Business</keyword>) told ET. "We will invest abut '200 crore every year to build the channel and service," he added. 
 
One aspect in which the company aims to differ from its rivals is the after sales service, for which it has introduced the Micromax Home Assist application. It allows its AC and TV consumers get after sales service from over 400 centres spread across the country. 
 
In the coming three years, the company has plans of getting 60 to 65% of its business from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Micromax-unveils-new-logo-with-15-new-smartphones/articleshow/51811617.cms">mobile phones</a>, 25% from consumer durables and the remaining from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Micromax-is-now-eyeing-Africa-Middle-East-CIS-as-part-of-global-expansion/articleshow/50853137.cms">international markets</a> such as Russia, where it has plans to launch its LED televisions. 
 
The Russian market has already accepted the brand and Micromax is among its top three smartphone players.

As of now, there are 4,000 Micromax sales points, and there are plans to increase the number to 10- to 12,000 in two years. Other than that, the products will also be available on leading e-commerce websites.

<ul><li>Consumers are looking for toxin-free beauty products, and those that suit their specific skin colour.</li><li>They also choose brands based on ingredients, with prominence of genderless beauty and more.</li><li>Pure play beauty and personal care companies are capturing these trends better than their FMCG peers. </li></ul>Gone are the days when every second home housed the same popular shampoo, face cream and soap brands. The new-age consumers, driven by the rising incomes of the middle class, seek beauty products that offer personalization – instead of buying off the rack. A report by <keyword id="3359665" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="redseer" source="Orion">Redseer</keyword> and Peak XV says that consumers are looking for toxin-free products, products that suit their specific skin colour (as opposed to fair &amp; lovely preferences); with an increasing prominence for genderless beauty. There is also a trend wherein consumers are making ingredient-specific purchases, the report adds. Moreso, they are also exposed to tech that allows for customization into products like serums which can make the ‘best fit’. "From acne management to anti-ageing solutions, specialized use cases are where we're seeing a lot of the action. Brands are spending a significant portion of their resources and organisation bandwidth on new product development, R&amp;D, and customer insights to drive more efficacious products to a targeted audience," says Sakshi Chopra, MD, Peak XV. The market share of such specific use case products is expected to be around 60% by 2027, Redseer predicts. “Globally, there's a growing need among consumers for products 'made for them', tailored to individual skin or body types. They are increasingly willing to pay premiums for effective and safe solutions, leading to rapid growth in the masstige and premium categories,” said Rohan Agarwal, Partner, Redseer Strategy Consultants. Skin in the game So, who is winning the game that’s rapidly changing? Undoubtedly, pure-play beauty companies have more skin in this game — like L'oreal, Honasa (Mamaearth) and <keyword id="6376684" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nykaa" source="Orion">Nykaa</keyword> as opposed to HUL. The average revenue growth that pure-play BPC companies saw between 2022-2027 is at 10% – that’s five times what FMCG companies in the business see, at 2%. They already have 33% of the market – which is expected to rise to 42% by 2027. The reasons for their ability to disrupt the market are many. For one, pure play companies are able to capture the trend of moving to masstige and premium products better with faster R&amp;D and product development. Some of them have been able to shorten time to market by 50%, the report says. This way, they are able to target a greater number of specific use cases — helping them curb a larger share of the rapidly fragmenting market. As the market breaks off from being ‘mass’, the channels to approach them are just as important as the product itself. Fortunately, a large chunk of these new-age customers are already online. The Indian BPC market is at $30 billion and a third of it — $10 billion is purchased online. There are over 150 million online BPC customers in India. A lot of successful beauty brands are not content on just ‘being online’ and offline – they’re meeting their customers via live commerce, VR/AR stores on metaverse and more. German company <keyword id="244393" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="beiersdorf" source="Orion">Beiersdorf</keyword> launched a personalized AI powered D2C brand using data from multiple customer surveys. Pure-play brands also spend a lot more on marketing as they build brands by educating and creating awareness — clinching the secret to make people feel good as well as looking good.

Goldman Just Tapped These 280 People To Be Managing Directors 

The first woman entrepreneur I knew was my neighbour who started a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papadum">papad</a> manufacturing business in the early 90s. I remember my mother being in awe of her and did her best to help out the budding entrepreneur. 
 
But that was the 90s and these entrepreneurs were never glorified or talked about in the media. Even the choices for women in India were limited – most enterprising women built home-based businesses. 
 
Over the turn of the millennium, a lot of businesses based on the distribution model were popularized, and empowered women too. Every other person you met was either an Amway or Oriflame distributor. 
 
Fast forward a few years and we have women rocking the proverbial boat by trying their hands on so-called “male-dominated” businesses. 
 
Let me introduce here six phenomenal ladies who rule the Indian startup scene with their disruptive ideas. From software developer to recruiter, from a woman who travelled alone for days on end surveying small city hotels to one whose mission is to pamper other Indian women, they have been there, done that and aren’t slowing down anytime soon. 
 
Of course, we’ll talk about their work (and companies), which speaks for itself.

POSist is a Cloud-based restaurant management software that automates almost all restaurant operations, including online reservation, inventory management, and billing. It covers every single need of all types and sizes of food outlets. 
 
 
 
The idea for POSist came to Sakshi Tulsian when she and her husband couldn’t find good software for their own restaurant venture. As most good business ideas are designed to fill a void, POSist too was conceived to fill the demand-supply gap for decent hotel management software. 
Thanking her family for supporting her in realizing her dreams, Tulsian says that women in our society are expected to be all-rounders and create a balance between social and professional life, unlike men. This is the toughest part of being a woman entrepreneur. 
Our next entrepreneur too struggled with work-life balance after her first child was born.

This is an important lesson for all startups, not only in India, but across the world. Keep your workforce talent as diverse as possible by hiring people across ages, genders, races and backgrounds.

VTest provides software testing services accompanied by detailed test reports and a digital certificate. Their business is restricted only to testing, a niche software development pain point. 
 
Director and COO Almas Khan started out in the recruitment field, but grew increasingly interested in tech. In the middle of a few life changing scenarios and a break from work, she found herself sitting at home, doing nothing. Initially, she did testing pro-bono for a friend. Soon, she realized this was what she wanted to do, and VTest was born. With her USP of focusing on “what not to do” VTest has made major inroads towards becoming a major player in the app testing business. 
 
<a href="http://www.vistarooms.com/">Vista Rooms</a> 
Vista Rooms is a niche business that offers low-cost luxury accommodation in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities across India. Launched in April 2015, their website now offers stays in more than 70 cities and over 500 hotels. 
 
 
 
Theirs is a budget business model; so, they are leveraging existing platforms instead of making heavy investments unlike competitors. For instance, instead of creating a standalone app, they created a complete app experience on Instagram that allows everything from browsing to booking, to sharing reviews. 
 
Co-founder Ankita Sheth travelled for one and a half month to various small cities and experienced the true horrors of bad hospitability. Slowly but surely, she and her partners put together a plan for offering standardized hospitality and making pleasant budget travel a reality in India. 
 
Entrepreneurs can take two lessons from this startup. First, instead of hiring people to do research and listening to second-hand reports, devote time to check the ground reality on your own. Secondly, in the initial years, try to make your startup as lean as possible by cashing in on existing platforms as opposed to building new ones.

Niharika feels extremely happy about being able to spoil women, and now that she has cornered the market in metro cities, she is looking forward to capture a slice of Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

Although the idea of this startup is a little morbid, it is beyond doubt one of the most disruptive ideas in a very long time. A website to leave a message for your loved ones after your death, in a country like India, seems as strange to us as the idea of snake charmers to the west. 
 
Nevertheless, Vedika Goel went on and gave shape to this thoughtful idea, and created With You. So many things happen today – heart attacks, accidents, etc. – that snatch away lives and worlds in a fleeting moment. With You allows you to leave messages for your loved ones – it might be a secret that you don’t want to take to your grave, a financial will, or just that “I love you” that you never got around to saying. 
 
Vedika calls it the insurance of emotions; saying that her venture takes care of the emotions of people that are left behind when someone passes away. 
 
The most important lesson to learn from the last two startups is to pursue your dream, no matter how disruptive, small or whacky it may seem at the outset.
