The <keyword id="20584253" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rog-strix-scar" source="keywords">ROG Strix Scar</keyword> series has been launched in two sizes – 16-inch and 18-inch. Apart from different screen sizes, the laptops are also equipped with different hardware. Both the laptops get premium hardware and come in a gaming-oriented design, meaning it is packed with a ton of RGB lighting. I’ve been using the ROG Strix Scar 16 laptop with the 14th Gen Intel Core i9-14900HX processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 for a few days now, and here is my detailed review of the latest premium depends on the size and the weight of the device. The Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 is a power-packed device and as such is large and bulky, meaning it is not as portable as you would want a laptop to be. The device weighs 2.65 kg and its large charging adapter further increases the weight. <div type="image" title="Design" msid="108514679" hostid="261" sizebytes="57056" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The Asus ROG Strix Scar 16&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> There is nothing subtle about the Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 and this is a device that will stand out from the regular laptops. It comes with a plastic back with a matte black finish. <div type="image" title="LEd" msid="108514732" hostid="261" sizebytes="41624" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The LED strip at the back&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The laptop comes with a large Asus ROG logo at the back that comes with RGB lighting. The lid also comes with a strip that reads Republic of Gamers. It comes with two large RGB light strips – one at the front and one at the back. The RGB lighting comes with Aura Sync support and can be completely customised as per your preference. <div type="image" title="T" msid="108514775" hostid="261" sizebytes="76896" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The laptop comes with a translucent design at several places&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The laptop comes with translucent plastic at the top of the keyboard and on the sides, which give it a distinct look. <div type="image" title="Keyboard" msid="108514821" hostid="261" sizebytes="71242" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The ROG Strix Scar 16 keyboard&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 comes with an RGB-backlit keyboard and the keys are very responsive, with 2.0mm travel distance. The trackpad is decent as well. It comes with number keys integrated, which can be activated by pressing the “NUMLK” key. During my usage, I found the keyboard to be slightly cluttered and it will take some time to get used to the layout. The keyboard also comes with five programmable hot keys, which can be set to your preferred actions. <div type="image" title="Por" msid="108514927" hostid="261" sizebytes="388624" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Ports on the left side&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> In terms of ports, the Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 comes with a Thunderbolt 4 port, a USB Type-C port, two USB Type-A ports, an ethernet port and a 3.5mm audio port. You also get a 720p webcam on the top, but there is no privacy cover on it. <div type="image" title="B" msid="108514952" hostid="261" sizebytes="105290" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Bottom&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> Being a gaming laptop, the company has employed several measures to keep the temperature down. It comes with a full width heatsink at the bottom, which cools the GPU. It also comes with a tri-fan technology and full-surround vents to ensure proper air circulation. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Display" comment="subhead" text="Display">Display</cmsannotation> Coming to the display, the Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 features a ROG Nebula HDR Display. It is equipped with a 16-inch Quad HD+ Mini LED display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, a 240Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time with Dolby Vision HDR support. <div type="image" title="Display" msid="108514962" hostid="261" sizebytes="54506" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;It comes with a vibrant display&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The resolution and the high refresh rate make it a treat to play on the laptop. The colours look great as it comes with 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. The Mini LED panel ensures excellent visuals with amazing contrast with 2,304 dimming zones. The 1,100 nits brightness delivers good visibility, even under direct sunlight. I played games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Starfield and Forza Horizon 5 on the laptop, with the device offering amazing visuals in each game. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Performance" comment="subhead" text="Performance">Performance</cmsannotation> If you are looking for a powerful gaming laptop, the ROG Strix Scar 16 will not disappoint. It is equipped with the Intel Core i9 14900HX high-performance processor with 24 cores and 32 threads. This is coupled with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 16GB GDDR6 graphics. The laptop comes with 32GB DDR5 5600MHz RAM, which can be extended up to 64GB. For storage, it offers a 2TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSD, which can be upgraded to 4TB. I tested the laptop with several games, including Red Dead Redemption 2 and Forza Horizon 5. Both the games performed well and the laptops were able to handle them without any issues. The powerful hardware means that you will be able to run any game at the best graphics without even having to look at the system requirements. I played Starfield and Forza Horizon 5 at maximum graphics and the laptop was able to handle them with ease. Even during extended gaming sessions, the laptop’s cooling apparatus kicked in, keeping the temperatures down. The laptop is equipped with a 90Whr battery, the battery life is not one of the strongest points of the ROG Strix Scar 16. While gaming, I was able to get around 2 and a half hours of battery life out of the device. Then again, you will mostly be gaming while you are connected, so battery life is not a very big issue. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Verdict" comment="subhead" text="Verdict">Verdict</cmsannotation> The Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 is a feature-packed laptop that ticks all the right boxes, including a vibrant display, powerful performance and decent battery life. If you don’t have a problem with the weight and are looking for a premium gaming laptop, the ROG Strix Scar 16 is a great option. An added benefit with the ROG Strix Scar 16 is its translucent plastic body and the RGB lighting offered, which will please a lot of gamers. Also, the colour accuracy is pretty amazing in ROG X16 Flow. The display supports HDR and Dolby Vision and, at 1,100 nits of peak brightness, gives decent viewing and gaming experience in average daylight. The ROG Flow X16 also comes with a 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut that aims to enhance colour grading, accuracy and tone, which is visible while gaming. The keyboard also features a single-zone RGB backlit keyboard with different preset modes and levels of brightness. Volume controls and ASUS Armoury crate hotkeys are placed separately above the keyboard for ease of functionality. <div type="image" title="Asus ROG Flow X16" msid="93894875" hostid="261"></div>The trackpad is fast and responsive, and it supports multi-touch gestures. Given the specification, ROG Flow X16 is a gaming powerhouse. I have played graphically demanding games like Sniper Elite 5, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands, Halo and many more, and Ryzen 9 has done a good job so far. Further, I tested a bunch of AAA titles like Red Dead Redemption 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Watch Dogs: Legion and Far Cry 6 at the ultra setting with HDR on, and the result was commendable. Besides gaming, I have thrown almost everything at the Asus ROG Flow X16, which include opening documents in Office and Chrome along with multiple tabs and apps running in the background, photo editing and ROG Flow X16 didn’t disappoint me. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Thermal performance" comment="subhead" text="Thermal performance">Thermal performance</cmsannotation> I used ROG Flow X16 for prolonged gaming hours, and in my usage, I felt that the laptop got warm, but thanks to ROG's cooling-frost force technology, there was no lag. It seems that the video-scrubbing thumbnails are currently only available for newer uploads, as they are not appearing on older videos. Since the platform rolled out the feature for users to upload 10-minute videos up last year, it has been working to improve the viewing experience for the users, the report said. Meanwhile, last month, the platform announced that it had expanded its 'audience controls' feature to allow creators to restrict their short-form videos to adult viewers. The curved display and the 144Hz refresh rate are usually not found in this price segment, so that is good to have. I watched a couple of movies and played a few games on the device and the display offered experience. The device comes with HDR10+ support, offering a good visual experience while watching movies and shows. The 1200 nits brightness allows you to view the display clearly in direct sunlight. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Software and performance" comment="subhead" text="Software and performance">Software and performance</cmsannotation> The software is one of the areas where the Moto Edge 40 offers both good and bad experiences. It runs on Android 13 out of the box with the company’s My UX and offers a clutter-free UI without any bloatware or intrusive advertisements. While it is not stock, it offers a near-stock experience. Unlike a lot of devices in this segment, you don’t have to worry about pre-installed applications from third parties on the Moto Edge 40. The smartphone comes with the Moto app pre-installed which lets you customise the theme with different colour schemes and icon shapes. You can also enable up to nine different gestures to quickly access the camera, take a screenshot, unlock the device and more. Coming to the not-so-good experiences, the device does come with a few bugs, with occasional stutters and app issues. While this can be fixed with an update, the company hasn’t pushed one yet. The device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8020 chipset and comes with 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. The company has launched the Snapdragon Ride Flex chipset, the company’s latest offering aimed at improving safety and performance. Qualcomm has also announced its partnership with Visteon, an American automotive electronics supplier, to work on developing a high-performance cockpit domain controller. Here are the major announcements from Qualcomm – <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC" comment="subhead" text="Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC">Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC</cmsannotation> The Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC is the latest addition to the company’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis portfolio. It has been developed to handle mixed-critically workloads, enabling digital cockpit, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and automated driving (AD) functions to co-exist on a single SoC. This means that a single chipset can do the job of three chips. The chipset also integrates a software platform that enables multiple operating systems to operate concurrently, hypervisor enablement, isolated virtual machines, and real-time operating system. “We continue to remain at the forefront of automotive compute innovation, and as we enter the era of Software Defined Vehicles, the Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC family defines a new setpoint for high-performance power-optimized mixed-criticality architectures,” said Nakul Duggal, senior vice president and GM, automotive, Qualcomm Technologies. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Qualcomm to develop a digital cockpit domain controller with Visteon" comment="subhead" text="Qualcomm to develop a digital cockpit domain controller with Visteon">Qualcomm to develop a digital cockpit domain controller with Visteon</cmsannotation> Qualcomm has announced that it is partnering with Visteon to develop a high-performance cockpit domain controller that will enable global automakers to build next-generation cockpits. This is aimed at offering additional features and functionalities in the car cockpits. You will have to wait for some time as these features will only be available starting in 2025. “We look forward to continuing our efforts with Visteon in bringing advanced capabilities and functionalities to next-generation vehicles through SmartCore and our Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms,” added Duggal. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Snapdragon Ride platform" comment="subhead" text="Snapdragon Ride platform">Snapdragon Ride platform</cmsannotation> Qualcomm also showcased its Snapdragon Ride platform at the event, highlighting the adoption of the first-gen Snapdragon Ride platform in commercial vehicles worldwide. The company also revealed that the next-gen Ride Platform built on 4-nanometer (nm) SoC is being tested by tier-1 suppliers and is expected to be available for 2025 global production. The platforms will offer improved ADAS and AD systems, improving customer safety. “We attribute the success of our Snapdragon Ride Platforms to the strong relationships and collaborations we have with automakers and Tier-1 ecosystem and look forward to our continued efforts to innovate together to advance the industry’s efforts in delivering safe and secure ADAS and AD systems,” Duggal added.
