Around 40 per cent of Indians surveyed have been defrauded when shopping online during the festive season, finds a study. The study was conducted by The Harris Poll on behalf of <keyword id="179697" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="norton" source="Orion">Norton</keyword>, a global leader in Cyber safety, which released the Indian findings that explored attitudes toward cyber security and online shopping during the festive season. According to the findings, two-thirds of Indian adults surveyed were concerned about their personal details being compromised (78 per cent), being defrauded by a third-party retailer (77 per cent), buying or receiving a refurbished device as a gift (72 per cent), and a device they receive as a gift being hacked (69 per cent). "Recently, there has been an increase in the number of online shoppers, and with that the rise in online shopping scams, gift card frauds, postal delivery frauds," said <keyword id="2022067" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ritesh-chopra" source="Orion">Ritesh Chopra</keyword>, Norton Director India and <keyword id="497507" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="saarc-countries" source="Orion">SAARC Countries</keyword> at NortonLifeLock. About 78 per cent of Indian adults surveyed agree that spending time online via their connected devices helps them feel more connected during the festive season, and 74 per cent say that it helps their mental well-being. Sixty-five per cent of Indian adults say their mental well-being would suffer if they could not access their connected devices during the festive season, the report mentioned. "Our Norton report also suggests that many Indian adults have been defrauded while doing online shopping, the average loss of those surveyed is Rs 6,216," he added. Mumbai, Apr 7 () Despite widespread concerns on facial recognition expressed world over, a majority of Indians seem to be amenable to the usage of the controversial technology for various uses including by state authorities, a survey has found. Over three-fourths of 1,000 people surveyed said they support the use of facial recognition for law enforcement, the survey by cybersecurity firm Nortonlifelock has said. Fears about emergence of surveillance states are being expressed because of facial recognition attributes where cameras help establish the identity of a person through data bases and algorithms make subsequent profiling easier. The survey said 74 per cent of those surveyed are fine with the technology being used in schools and 69 per cent are fine with retailers deploying it, and added that nearly three-fourths believe the technology will improve products and services. Interestingly, the survey also found out that 58 per cent of the respondents believe that facial recognition will likely be abused or misused in the next year, and almost half of them feel it will do more harm than good. Public health concerns in the aftermath of COVID-19 pandemic have given usage of such a technology a legitimacy. Experts have called for withdrawal of any such technology after the pandemic ends. Over 80 per cent of those polled want businesses and the government to disclose "where or when" they resort to using facial recognition, the survey said. Indians are more alarmed about their privacy than those in other countries, with selling of sensitive personal information to third parties and the personal information being exposed in a data breach and compromised by cyber criminals being the biggest concern areas, the survey found. "While the report suggests Indian consumers are more concerned about the misuse of personal information, amongst those of other countries, it also reveals that they are complacent about sharing their data if they get something in return," the company's country director Ritesh Chopra said. Nearly 40 per cent of the respondents said they have experienced identity theft and ten per cent of them reported being impacted last year alone, it said. AA MRMR

Majority of Indians surveyed pliant to use of facial recognition tech

<ul><li>About 87% adults in India believe <keyword id="6422069" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="online-gaming">online gaming</keyword> affect the mental health.</li><li>Of these, 76% believe this could lead to depression and anxiety, while 70% feel online gaming could lead to cyberbullying.</li><li>The survey included 1,500-city based adults.</li></ul>About 87% adults in Indian cities believe that online gaming takes a toll on their physical and mental well-being, showed a survey on Tuesday. About 76% of respondents feel that addiction to action games lead to changed behaviour and can increase depression and anxiety levels, according to the "India Digital Wellness Report" by consumer cybersecurity brand NortonLifeLock. Nearly 70% of respondents feel that children connecting with strangers while playing games online can lead to cyberbullying, harassment, and violence. The findings are based on an online survey of over 1,500 city-based Indian adults. "People could be drawn to online gaming for entertainment, but data shows that it is not all about fun and games. The virtual playing field comes with risks such as identity theft, cyber bullying, phishing, and credit card theft, to name a few," Ritesh Chopra, Director, NortonLifeLock, India, said in a statement. Two of every three respondents said they prefer playing online games to going outdoors or having social interactions. Almost 73% of the parents in the survey said that their children prefer shooting and adventure games, while 21% said that their children show a preference for casino and card games. There is a sense of growing concern among parents as 45% of respondents said they find it difficult to control their children's smartphone usage. Interestingly, 81% of the respondents who put a check mechanism on children's usage of smartphones feel they have not been effective in controlling the gaming time. The children of 42% of these respondents played games online for more than two hours every day. However, online gaming seems to have some positive impact, too, on users. About 81% of respondents feel that multiplayer online games enhance teamwork skills, while 70% of respondents feel that playing online games can make people smarter, as they improve brain coordination and reaction. The online gaming space, largely perceived to be male dominated, seems to have a lot of female takers, the results showed. About 88% of female respondents find online games to be the best pastime as compared to 86% of their male counterparts. The study also showed that when it comes to mobile gaming, children and parents tend to have a shared behaviour -- six in every 10 respondents said that they and their children spend roughly the same amount of time playing games online.

 In this list, one would find 56 Indians, with Kohli, Mirza and Nehwal along with 26-year old Bollywood actress <keyword id="89958" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shraddha-Kapoor">Shraddha Kapoor</keyword>. 
 
"At the top of India's crickculture is batting prince Kohli, who led India to clean sweep in their Twenty 20 series against Australia in January," Forbes said of Kohli. He was also named among India's highest earning celebrities in 2015, standing at USD 11.3 million. 
 
Talking of Mirza, Forbes said that she has been the "most successful female Indian tennis player ever" and one of the highest paid and highest profile athletes in the country. 
 
About Nehwal, Forbes described her as a "role model" and "Indian badminton queen". 
 
The list has a total of 10 categories, covering consumer technology, enterprise technology, arts, healthcare and science, media, social 
entrepreneurship, finance, industry and retail.
