Online learning platform <keyword id="6630114" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="unacademy">Unacademy</keyword> is now valued at $3.44 billion after the latest round of fundraising, where it got investments to the tune of $440 million. Over the last 18 months, the valuation of the <keyword id="9578177" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="unacademy-group">Unacademy Group</keyword> has risen almost 10 times, the company reportedly said in a statement. This was the Series H round of funding for Unacademy where Aroa Ventures, the family office of hotel chain <keyword id="2808667" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="OYO">OYO</keyword>’s Founder Ritesh Agarwal, and Deepinder Goyal, Co-Founder and CEO at Zomato, participated. Some angel investors of Unacademy have exited in this round. Aside from these, existing investors like General Atlantic, Tiger Global and <keyword id="3749718" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="softbank-vision-fund">Softbank Vision Fund</keyword> put in more money.This is the second investment by Tiger Global, and General Atlantic who increased their stake in Unacademy in January this year. Unacademy is known for its offerings that help students prepare for competitive exams and it has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of the shift to online learning. Unacademy differentiates itself from Byju’s, which relies on pre-recorded content, and Vedantu that is known for its live-tutoring. India’s edtech industry, which had an annual revenue pool of $700 million at the end of March 2020, saw its business double in the following year due to the pandemic, according to data from Goldman Sachs. The global investment bank expects the entire edtech space to be worth $30 billion dollars by March 2024 as Indians spend the most on education, as a proportion of household consumption, after China. The founders of OYO and Zomato pump in money to make edtech startup Unacademy worth $3.4 billion ⁠— a ten fold jump in 18 months

In his opinion, the world has no way of becoming immune to everything, but the turbulence can become our strength. <ul><li>A “Black Swan” cannot be predicted, because it is not possible to “manage risk” fully. </li><li>The American market theorist, investor and philosopher explains how to benefit from the Black Swans.</li></ul>Nassim Nicholas Taleb is an American economist, philosopher and trader of Lebanese origin. In his academic work, he focuses on issues connected with probability, randomness and uncertainty. He is a professor at the University of New York and author of bestsellers: “The Black Swan. The Impact of Highly Improbable", and “Antifragile. Things That Gain From Disorder". The Sunday Times has chosen “The Black Swan” as one of the 12 most important books published after World War II. Living with the “Black Swan” "What I call the Black Swan (written in capital letters) is an event with the following three characteristics. Firstly, it is unusual because it goes beyond the domain of our usual expectations, as no element of the past clearly indicates its possible occurrence. Secondly, it has a drastic impact on reality (as opposed to a bird with an unusual plumage). Thirdly, despite the lack of typicality of this event, our nature forces us to seek a justification for its occurrence after the fact in order to make it explainable and predictable," writes Nassim Nicholas Taleb in his book. According to the economist, societies are not able to react well to the Black Swans because they focus too much on the past and look for the error they have made. However, it is only after the fact that we realise that such events could have been foreseen. Taleb points out that the crux of the matter is that a “Black Swan” cannot be predicted, because it is not possible to “manage risk” fully. In his opinion, we should realise that they do exist, rather than playing soothsayers. The author of the bestseller indicates that any “risk management” is wrong, because it assumes certain models, certain averages, and it is wrong to think that tomorrow will be the same as today. So what should we do? Taleb indicates that once in a while we will have to deal with something that is going to turn the life of our society upside down. We can only try to do our best every day and be reasonably resilient to this type of tragedy. If a Black Swan comes, this preparation will allow us to act much more effectively. "There are many possibilities, it is enough to focus on the anti-knowledge, which is what we do not know. For example, we can learn to benefit from the Black Swans (with their positive effects) by maximising our exposure to such events. In fact, in some areas - such as scientific discoveries and venture capital investments - what is unknown brings disproportionately higher returns, because in the case of rare events, we usually have little to lose and much to gain,” writes Nassim Nicholas Taleb. He also warns against drawing conclusions from the past too hastily and relying on historical data to predict the future. "Antifragility" Another well-known publication by Nassim Taleb is “Antifragile. Things That Gain From Disorder". The author argues that some things are served well by shocks because they develop and flourish under the influence of changeability and stress. He cites in his book a model example of exercise in a gym. Muscles are subjected to effort and stress, but the effect can be impressive and beneficial to health. Taleb transfers this example to organisations and companies. When a company avoids stress, its "muscles" become weaker and weaker, and this may be the first nail in the coffin in a constantly changing environment. In his book Nassim Taleb distinguishes between two types of stress: negative and positive. The positive is the one that is often repetitive, but manageable. It is the one that creates new opportunities. The negative is the one that causes the boat to tip over and the company to come out weakened. Here, in turn, we come to the concept of antifragility, i.e. continuous testing, building resilience and constant change. Taleb writes that it is impossible not to make a lot of mistakes, but these should be used to draw conclusions and build “immunity”. Everything, however, depends largely on the mentality, because it is not in human nature to go beyond the comfort zone and to be exposed to inconveniences. His appeal transcends age, race, religion, gender and ethnicity. Sadhguru has an intimate involvement with nature and understanding of how human life is inextricably woven with the elements. This has guided many of Isha’s ecological initiatives. He launched Rally for Rivers (RfR) in 2017 to raise awareness about India’s dying rivers. At 7:45 am, the SGX Nifty was up 0.58% at 8.70 points pointing towards a higher start for Nifty50. On Wall Street, the S&amp;P 500 closed above the 3,400 thresholds for the first time, bolstered by gains in some big tech-related names. The Dow Jones Industrial Average also jumped 378.13 points to close at 28,308.46. These are the stocks to watch out for during the trading session on Tuesday: Future Retail Kishore Biyani-led Future Retail has averted a default as it repaid around $14 million (around Rs 100 crore) interest on foreign bonds to investors. The 30-day grace period for repaying the interest on ‘5.60 per cent Senior Secured Notes due 2025’ was to end on Monday. The shares of Future Retail plunged over 5% on Monday. Adani Enterprises Billionaire Gautam Adani’s Adani Group is in talks to buy out GVK and some of its partners in the Mumbai Airport as it aims to become the country’s biggest private airport operator. Adani Group is in talks to acquire a 50.5% stake held by GVK Group in Mumbai International Airport (MIAL) and another 23.5% of minority partners, Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), and Bidvest Group, two sources with knowledge of the matter told PTI. The shares of Adani Enterprises ended 7% higher on Monday. Axis Bank Axis Bank on Monday said it would acquire 17% stake in Max Life Insurance instead of the 29% proposed earlier as per a revised deal. Axis Bank currently holds about 1 per cent stake in Max Life and is the biggest banking channel partner for the distribution of the insurer’s products. Products sold through the bank reportedly account for 54% of Max Life’s revenues. The shares of Axis Bank ended 2% higher on Monday. GMR Infra GMR Infra board to consider raising of funds of up to ₹5000 crore in one or more tranches, through the issue of securities as an enabling resolution as per the requirements of applicable laws which shall be subject to the approval of shareholders. The shares of GMR Infra ended 5% higher on Monday. Wipro Wipro announced a partnership with Standard Initial Margin Model (SIMM) vendor, Quaternion Risk Management. As part of the deal, Wipro will offer SIMM-in-a-box to financial institutions covered under Uncleared Margin Rules (UMR). The shares of Wipro ended nearly a percent lower on Monday. Allcargo Logistics The promoters of Allcargo Logistics have proposed to delist the company shares as part of its efforts to pare debt, the company said in a stock-exchange filing on August 24. The shares of Allcargo Logistics ended nearly a percent higher on Monday. LIC Housing Finance Mortgage lender LIC Housing Finance reported a 34% jump in its net profit to ₹817.48 crore for the quarter ending June helped by lower provisioning. The total income of the company rose to ₹4,977.49 crore in April-June 2020 from ₹4,807.21 crore in the year-ago quarter, according to a regulatory filing. The shares of LIC Housing Finance ended nearly a percent lower on Monday. JSW Energy JSW Energy said that its Executive Director Jyoti Kumar Agarwal, who is also the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), has tendered his resignation and will step down with effect from September 15. In a regulatory filing, the company said that Agarwal has decided to pursue career opportunities outside the company. The shares of JSW Energy ended 2% lower on Monday. Indian Energy Exchange Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) on Monday said its board of directors had accepted the resignation of its Managing Director and CEO Rajiv Srivastava. The company has given Satyanarayan Goel the additional charge of Managing Director and CEO. “Board of directors of the company at its meeting held today, i.e. August 24, 2020, has approved the resignation of Rajiv Srivastava, Managing Director &amp; CEO of the company, who has tendered his resignation on August 24, 2020, from the board of the company, due to his personal reasons,” the company said in a stock-exchange filing. The shares of Indian Energy Exchange ended a percent higher on Monday. The company has fixed a price band of ₹553-555 a share for its IPO. The three-day public issue will close on March 16. It plans to use the funds to repay its debt partly. As of September, the company had a total debt of ₹814.48 crore, and it plans to repay at least ₹556.20 crore in debt. The Surat-based company has reserved about 2.20 lakh shares for employees. Half of the issue is reserved for qualified institutional buyers, 35% for retail investors and 15% for non-institutional bidders. Anupam Rasayan commenced operations in 1984 with conventional products, and now it makes speciality chemicals that involve multi-step synthesis and complex chemistries. Anupam Rasayan’s business has two verticals — life science related to speciality chemicals and other speciality chemicals. The life science-related speciality chemicals are used in agrochemicals, personal care, and pharmaceutical sectors, whereas the other is used for pigment, dyes, polymer additives, etc. <keyword The report said that the group is in early talks with Just Dial regarding its latest e-commerce bet – JD Mart. The acquisition talks come as Tata is set to be working on its own Super App, for which it has already <a href="https://www.timesnownews.com/business-economy/companies/article/tata-group-to-buy-68-stake-in-e-grocer-bigbasket/721028">reportedly</a> signed a deal with grocery retail platform BigBasket for a 68% stake. Similarly, it could enter into a strategic alliance with Just Dial as well. The news of the possible acquisition drove Just Dial Ltd’s stocks to ₹943, up by 7.38% at 1.50 pm on Monday. In October 2020, Just Dial had said that it was set to launch its own B2B (business to business) marketplace called JD Mart. The potential and excitement for Just Dial’s new platform comes with the fact that the company already has a strong foothold in the market and a loyal user base. According to a report by financial services firm UBS, the company will be able to leverage its already existing 140 million quarterly unique users and 100,000 paid B2B subscribers to sell JD Mart. “We think Just Dial has developed a superior platform on the backdrop of an interactive user interface along with robust depth and breadth of B2B product offerings. JD's core strength is its large sales force (9,000), which should aid monetizing the new platform,” said the UBS report from October, 2020. JD Mart finds competition from the country’s oldest e-commerce platform IndiaMart, which has had an unchallenged run for 24 years. Interestingly, Tata was <a href="https://www.livemint.com/companies/start-ups/tatas-in-talks-to-buy-stake-in-indiamart-report-11602742923779.html">reportedly</a> in talks with IndiaMart as well earlier. However, in an exchange filing IndiaMart had categorically denied that it had not had any discussions with Tata Group. Meanwhile, JD Mart is making space for itself. The company, which had set aside ₹110 crore for marketing and advertising of JD Mart, has signed up to be a ‘Co-Presenting Sponsor’ of the Indian Premier League-14 (IPL 2021), which will be held in the months of April and May.
