<ul><li><keyword id="6484187" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ril" source="Orion">RIL</keyword> is now entering its fourth capex cycle, says <keyword id="48670" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="morgan-stanley" source="Orion">Morgan Stanley</keyword>. </li><li>It has pledged a massive ₹75,000 crore (approx. $9.4 billion) investment into the new energy ecosystem. </li><li>RIL’s investment cycles provided 2-3x value creation for shareholders in the last two decades, says Morgan Stanley. </li><li>“We see up to $60 billion value creation in the new energy business by 2025,” the report says. </li><li>However, if refining margins are hit, <keyword id="10926" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="reliance" source="Orion">Reliance</keyword>’s annual debt will go up by $3 billion per annum and impact cash flows. </li></ul>Reliance has always gone big – and every capex cycle it undertakes is bigger and ‘newer’ than the last. The oil to telecom to retail major is now entering into the fourth capex cycle, according to Morgan Stanley, after the company pledged a massive ₹75,000 crore (approx. $9.4 billion) investment into a new energy ecosystem. In his own words, RIL’s chairman <keyword id="3820" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="mukesh-ambani" source="Orion">Mukesh Ambani</keyword> called it the most ambitious ever, at the 45th annual general meeting. In its latest report, Morgan Stanley says that every time RIL re-imagined its business, it has executed above investor expectations. “Investment cycles have unwound with around two to three times value creation for shareholders in the last two decades with every decade seeing around $60 billion in market cap creation,” the report says. This fourth cycle will also produce higher value quickly as its new energy pivot is integrated with its chemicals business and its own large captive use. “RIL’s integrated approach on solar panels and mobility/storage batteries, and focus on providing an alternative to China does stand out and we see up to $60 billion value creation in the new energy business by 2025. We raise our base case new energy valuation to $32 billion to account for quicker monetization,” the report says. RIL, which is a net energy consumer at Jamnagar, will make the green choice by putting more solar and green hydrogen projects that can help reduce its own energy costs. Moreso, it will also focus on producing high value added chemicals from its petcoke gasifiers. It will also enter the engineering, procurement and construction business for selling panels and sell panels with solutions on the back of multiple investments in technology to global customers. “We estimate the business to contribute to around $1 billion in EBITDA by 2027,” the report said. How did the past RIL capex cycles work? Starting in 1997 with Jamnagar refinery commissioning, RIL has gone through three important capex cycles so far. These pertain to gas fields at KGD6, the Jamnagar expansion in 2012 and the great re-entry into telecom. While they did create value, it did not come at no cost to the organization in the form of write-offs, impairments and ‘challenged capex’. “In every capex cycle, RIL also had its share of challenges, such as the write off of investments for petcoke gasifiers, telecom spectrum and upstream shale investments,” the report said. RIL had invested in three shale gas assets in 2010 and 2013 but exited them in 2017. In addition to investing in KGD6 block in the Krishna Godavari which is producing over 25 mmscmd of gas, RIL had also invested in Cauvery and Mahanadi basins over the years. RIL also had to rejig its investments in retail between 2006-2010 and emerged stronger in 2015-16, the report said. Its other businesses are unwinding and expected to unwind faster in the future. After kick starting the business with ‘free data’ and still retaining the tag of providing the cheapest data offerings, <keyword id="2003276" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="jio" source="Orion">Jio</keyword> is on the verge of reaping benefits. Telecom business has become a three-player market and the report expects the average revenue per user to grow by over 50% over the next four to five 5 years. That means Jio’s revenues can expand to 1.6 times its FY22 levels. It also expects its 5G investments to yield quicker monetization than 4G did. The biggest advantage that new energy investments bring is the global and national support as India pledges to move towards Net Zero emissions by 2070. However, green hydrogen, solar panels and battery technology is a fast evolving sector with new changes afoot. “Policy support in this cycle is also increasing for the new energy vertical and the government recently approved a bill in parliament to raise the use of alternative fuels, provide incentives for investments in new energy and start carbon trading also points to rising total addressable market for RIL – something we saw less of in previous cycles,” the report said. But there is a catch. For its new energy business to run smoothly, RIL needs its refining business to hold steady. Refining margins fund nearly a third of RIL's investment plans and if margins were to decline to cycle low as the business is cyclical — it will reduce operating cash flows by 20% and annual debt would rise by $3 billion, as per Morgan Stanley’s calculations. “While cycle low gross refining margins are not sustainable as there would be a supply response, we do see a net impact of 15% hit to our net asset value as RIL would see its multiple de-rate as well,” the report said. Canara Bank The Life Insurance Corporation of India has acquired 6.28 crore shares of Canara Bank through the qualified institutional placement, taking its total shareholding in the bank to 8.35% from 4.53%. Dishman Carbogen Dishman Carbogen promoter will sell a 4.4% stake in the company via offer for sale on December 18 and 21 at a set floor price of ₹145.70 per share. SpiceJet SpiceJet would start 30 new domestic flights in a phased manner from next week. Top stock movers on Dalal Street today — Tata Motors, SBI Card, Bandhan Bank, RIL, Britannia

The week gone by continued to be volatile and all gains built up during the course of the first four days were lost and even more, on Friday. The week ended with BSE SENSEX losing 163.23 points or 0.43 per cent to close at 37877.34 points while NIFTY lost 35.65 points or 0.32 per cent to close at 11,178.40 points. The broader indices saw BSE100 lose 0.03 per cent while BSE200 and BSE500 gained 0.03 per cent and 0.18 per cent respectively. BSEMIDCAP was up 1.51 per cent while BSESMALLCAP was up 1.36 per cent. This kind of difference where the benchmark indices are in the red and the broader indices are in positive, has happened after a very long time. Normally the trend is clear and all indices are either positive or negative, not some positive and some negative. The Indian Rupee gained 3 paisa or 0.04 per cent to close at Rs 74.90 to the US Dollar. Dow jones had a good week and gained 497.54 points or 1.81 per cent to close at 27,931.02 points. The Indian indices gained on two days and lost on three days with Friday being the sharp loser and BSESENSEX losing 467 points and NIFTY 122 points. What is significant is the fact that markets were gaining and in the positive till Friday happened. RBI has agreed to pay to the government Rs 57,128 crores as dividend for 2019-2020. ICICI has successfully completed its QIP for Rs 15,000 crores at a price of Rs 358. Th share had closed at Rs 361.45 on Friday, a weekly gain of Rs 3.60 or 1.01 per cent. The Supreme Court hearing the AGR matter in case of telecom companies has come to the issue of Reliance industries and Reliance Communications. The spectrum was allotted to the erstwhile telecom company which was a part of Reliance Industries and then was split when the family division happened. Post Reliance Communications going belly-up and exiting the telecom business, it entered into a spectrum deal with Jio. The Supreme court is asking for the payment of Rs 31,000 crores towards the spectrum dues. Readers would recall that Reliance Jio had taken over the assets and liabilities of Reliance Communications Limited at almost zero value as it had agreed to take over the liabilities as well. This could affect the share prices when trading begins on Monday. Shares of Reliance industries had closed at Rs 2,114 a loss of Rs 33 or 1.54 per cent for the week when trading ended on Friday. Shares of Yes Bank hit a high of Rs 17.16 before profit taking saw the share fall, and close at Rs 15.07, a weekly gain of Rs 0.93 or 7.39 per cent. The share has now entered a trading zone and would move between 13.5-16 over the next couple of weeks till news flow about the performance of the bank post fund raising are known. IHH, the Malaysian based company which had acquired Fortis Healthcare has proposed in the board meeting to change the name of the company to Parkway from the present name and disassociate itself from the Singh brothers in all manners. This proposed change is of course subject to regulatory approvals and the Supreme Court, where there is a matter of the open offer also pending. As and when this issue is resolved, the company would have renamed itself with a brand which is operating in more than 10 countries and is predominantly a South Asian group of hospital chain. The share has been seeing steady accumulation on expectation of the open offer currently stayed by the Supreme Court being cleared. Shares had closed at Rs 135.80, down Rs 2.15 or 1.56 per cent. Coming to the Covid-19 front, the world saw 216,17,987 patients, 7,69,006 deaths and 143,34,222 people recovering. In India, there were 25,90,501 patients, 50,099 deaths and 18,62,665 people recovering. Compared to the previous week, the world saw 18,06,240 new patients, 39,345 deaths and 16,08,074 people recovering. This effectively meant that 89.02 per cent of the patients added during the week have recovered overall. In India, there were 4,34,058 new patients, 6,611 deaths and 3,80,999 patients recovering. The recovery rate for the week was 87.77 per cent. Decent improvement in the recovery rate and one hopes and prays that work on the vaccine, which is globally on a war footing fructifies. The week ahead would see markets open on a weak note and Reliance is likely to be under pressure on the AGR news. Markets would face resistance at the previous week's high of 38,556 points and 11,366 on NIFTY. Incidentally, while BSESENSEX failed to cross the recent high of 38,617 points, NIFTY did cross 11,341 points. These levels would be difficult to cross currently and would become a resistance for the time being. On the downside, we would find support at 37,000 on BSESENSEX and at 10,900 points on NIFTY if not earlier. The strategy would be to buy on sharp dips or wait for the fall. RIL, Yes Bank, Fortis and all the stocks to watch out for on Monday

Mumbai, May 8 () Markets squandered early gains but managed to end in the green on Friday, propped up by heavyweight Reliance Industries which announced another stake sale deal for its digital platform. A strengthening rupee and firm global cues also supported the domestic bourses, traders said. After rallying 645.13 points during the day, the 30-share BSE Sensex finally settled 199.32 points or 0.63 per cent higher at 31,642.70. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty rose 52.45 points, or 0.57 per cent, to finish at 9,251.50. Reliance Industries was the biggest contributor to the gains on the benchmarks, jumping over 3 per cent after the company announced the sale of 2.32 per cent stake in Jio Platforms to US-based Vista Equity Partners for Rs 11,367 crore, the third such deal in a little over two weeks. In absolute terms, Hindustan Unilever was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rallying 4.81 per cent, followed by Nestle India, Tech Mahindra and Sun Pharma. On the other hand, M&amp;M, Axis Bank, NTPC and IndusInd Bank were among the major laggards, shedding up to 3.87 per cent. During the week, the Sensex plunged 2,074.92 points or 6.15 per cent, and the Nifty tanked 608.40 points or 6.17 per cent. "Nifty fluctuated around 150 points in another day of volatile trades, tracking uncertainty in the markets. Gains were led by Reliance, which succeeded in another round of fundraising even in this adverse scenario. "Global market trends were also positive following attempts to defuse tensions around the US- China trade talks. While the earnings season has been lacklustre, markets seem to be awaiting announcement of a stimulus package from the government," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services. BSE energy, FMCG, healthcare, teck and IT indices rallied up to 2.59 per cent, while power, utilities, consumer durables, auto and metals closed with losses. Broader BSE midcap index rose 0.04 per cent, while the smallcap gauge slipped 0.45 per cent. Foreign portfolio investors purchased equities worth a net Rs 19,056.49 crore in the capital market in the previous session, provisional exchange data showed. Global markets advanced as US and China discussed the first phase of a trade deal on Friday, while investors also welcomed moves by various countries to ease lockdown measures and resume economic activities. Bourses in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Seoul ended with substantial gains. Top stock exchanges in Europe were also trading on a positive note in their opening sessions. Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude futures climbed 1.73 per cent to USD 29.97 per barrel. On the currency front, the rupee appreciated 18 paise to provisionally settle at 75.54 against the US dollar. Globally, the number of cases linked to COVID-19 has crossed 38.46 lakh and the death toll has topped 2.69 lakh. Sensex climbs 199 pts on RIL boost; posts weekly loss

<keyword id="45442" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Reliance-Industries-Limited">Reliance Industries Limited</keyword> (RIL) shares have taken a beating on <keyword id="4348109" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="SEBIs-penal-action">SEBI's penal action</keyword>, but the company has said that it has a strong case against the regulatory order. It added that there was no <keyword id="954475" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Market-manipulation">market manipulation</keyword> done on account of trades in cash and futures segments.

Taking legal advice from its team, the company is confident that the appellate forums will uphold its position. 
 RIL shares declined by 3% on bourses after <keyword id="35210" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="sebi">SEBI</keyword> <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/sebi-bans-mukesh-ambanis-reliance-industries-limited-from-equityderivatives-trading-for-one-year/articleshow/57823851.cms">decided to ban</a> the company and 12 others from equity derivatives trading for one year. The case has been in court for 10 years. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/sebi-to-allow-mutual-funds-to-invest-in-reits-invits/articleshow/56559875.cms">SEBI</a> also said that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/small-business/companies/Stop-using-Vodafone-Airtel-RIL-tells-its-employees/articleshow/53812904.cms">RIL</a> has poured out nearly Rs 1,000 crore for alleged fraudulent trading.

Elaborating on the matter the company said: "There is no market manipulation by the company on account of the trades both in futures and cash segments. There are no profits or losses in a hedging transaction, leave alone undue profits." 
 
"Open positions in excess of limits prescribed in circulars is neither fraudulent nor manipulative as per the bye laws and regulations of stock exchange and also as Securities Contracts (Regulation ) Act," it added. 
 
It added that the allegations cannot attract the consequences sought for in the show-cause notice, and that selling at a price marginally below the last traded price in a genuine delivery transaction in the cash segment does not account for a fraudulent and manipulative trade practice.

The government, after market hours on Monday, notified Mauritius as an "eligible country", enabling its investment entities to register as Category-I FPIs with lower KYC requirements. Experts said that considering the size of investment in Indian capital market by overseas entities from Mauritius, this is a welcome move. According to traders, positive cues on the FPI front and stock-specific action pulled the market higher. However, concerns over the spike in Covid-19 cases and an extension in the nationwide lockdown in the country kept investors cautious. Global Cues On Tuesday, the <keyword id="70622" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dow-Jones-Industrial-Average">Dow Jones Industrial Average</keyword> jumped 558.99 points, or 2.39%, to 23,949.76. Analysts expect S&amp;P 500 earnings growth to decline 10.2% in the first quarter year over year, according to data from Refinitiv. Investors also paid close attention to the <keyword id="6366068" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="international-monetary-fund">International Monetary Fund</keyword> (IMF) projection on global economy. The global economy is on track to contract "sharply" by 3 per cent in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, much worse than during the 2008-09 financial crisis, according to IMF's World Economic Outlook released Tuesday. Sensex jumps over 600 points with RIL, ICICI and L&T as the biggest gainers

Mumbai, May 14 () The BSE Sensex plummeted 886 points on Thursday as concerns over the efficacy of the government's stimulus package and grim global cues hammered investor confidence. After crashing over 955 points during the day, the 30-share index settled 885.72 points or 2.77 per cent lower at 31,122.89. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty tanked 240.80 points, or 2.57 per cent, to close at 9,142.75. Market players were disappointed as the immediate spend out of the government's Rs 20 lakh crore fiscal stimulus package was seen to be relatively small, raising doubts about the revival of growth any time soon, experts said. Further, global markets tanked following the WHO's comments that the novel coronavirus "may never go away". Tech Mahindra was the top laggard in the Sensex pack, cracking 5.24 per cent, followed by Infosys, HDFC, IndusInd Bank, Reliance Industries and NTPC. On the other hand, Hero MotoCorp, L&amp;T, Maruti, UltraTech Cement and Sun Pharma led the gainers' chart, climbing up to 2.28 per cent. Meanwhile, the government released truncated data for April wholesale price-based inflation, which showed deflation in primary articles was 0.79 per cent, while fuel and power basket saw a deflation of 10.12 per cent last month amid the nationwide lockdown. "Indian benchmark indices wiped out all the previous session gains with Nifty ended below 9150 level due to unenthusiastic response to the relief package announcements made on Wednesday amid weak global cues. "Capital goods and media stocks were up while IT, metals, financials, and telecom shares were down. All eyes are now on the balance two announcements by FM over Thursday and Friday," said Deepak Jasani, Head Retail Research, HDFC Securities. Announcing the second tranche of economic stimulus measures post market hours, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said these will be for the benefit of migrant workers, street vendors and small farmers. BSE IT, energy, teck, finance, metal, bankex, oil and gas, power and realty indices lost up to 3.60 per cent, while healthcare, FMCG and capital goods closed with modest gains. The broader midcap and smallcap indices dropped up to 0.63 per cent. Asian markets were in the red after the World Health Organization warned that the novel coronavirus "may never go away". On top of that, US Federal Reserve chief Jerome Powell warned of a "highly uncertain" outlook for the world's top economy. Bourses in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Seoul closed with losses. Stock exchanges in Europe were also trading on a negative note in early deals. International oil benchmark Brent crude futures surged 3.85 per cent to USD 30.32 per barrel. On the currency front, the rupee slipped 10 paise to provisionally close at 75.56 against the US dollar. Bourses in Hong Kong and Seoul were trading significantly lower, while those in Shanghai and Tokyo were closed for a holiday. International oil benchmark Brent crude futures were trading flat at USD 26.41 per barrel. Meanwhile, global tally of coronavirus infections was over 35 lakh, with around 2.47 lakh deaths. The death toll due to COVID-19 in India rose to 1,373 and the number of cases climbed to 42,533 in the country, according to the health ministry. <keyword id="4741" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tokyo">Tokyo</keyword>, Japanese Prime Minister <keyword id="1524166" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yoshihide-Suga">Yoshihide Suga</keyword> said on Monday that his <keyword id="26362" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Government">government</keyword> was mulling the <keyword id="105405" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="declaration">declaration</keyword> of another <keyword id="6355728" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="state">state</keyword> of <keyword id="38387" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="emergency">emergency</keyword> in Tokyo and three surrounding prefectures due to an unabated Covid-19 resurgence in those areas. Speaking at the first press conference of 2021, Suga said that the government could make the decision as early as this week, Xinhua news agency reported. "Even during the three days of the New Year's holiday, cases didn't go down in the greater Tokyo area," he said. Japan reported a record high of 4,519 single-day confirmed coronavirus cases on December 31, 2020, marking the first time that the nationwide daily tally has topped the 4,000-mark since the onset of the pandemic earlier last year. The Japanese government had previously declared a state of emergency last April. As infections have continued to increase, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike and her counterparts in the neighbouring Chiba, Kanagawa and Saitama prefectures on January 1 urged the central government to issue a new declaration. Suga had been reluctant to declare another state of emergency as the economy would face a severe blow. Meanwhile during Monday's press briefing, Suga confirmed that the country aims to start Covid-19 vaccination program by late February, which is earlier than the previous schedule for frontline healthcare workers to begin receiving the jabs in mid-March. As of Monday, Japan's overall Covid-19 caseload and death toll stood at 240,954 and 3,548, respectively. Tokyo has reported a total of 62,658 infections and 587 fatalities.
