Since the organization can't overhaul itself in the middle of a season, the interim coach serves to get you to the offseason, tip his cap, and hand the keys over to the next blockbuster hire.But Bisaccia's term as interim head coach was immediately different. After the Raiders won their first two games with Bisaccia at head coach, quarterback and team captain Derek Carr used his post-game interview to openly campaign for Bisaccia."He has the ear of the locker room. He has the pulse, he has the heartbeat, and he's our leader," Carr said. "We would love for him to still be our head coach for the future."<h2>The off-field troubles didn't end with Gruden's firing</h2>At the start of November, <a href="https://www.insider.com/henry-ruggs-las-vegas-raiders-dui-charge-car-crash-2021-11" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wide receiver Henry Ruggs III was arrested and charged</a> with "DUI resulting in death" after being involved in a fiery car wreck in Nevada. A few days later, the team released cornerback Damon Arnette<a href="https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-releasing-former-first-round-cb-damon-arnette" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> after a video</a> on social media appeared to show him brandishing a gun and threatening to kill a person.Twice in one season, no one would have forgiven the Raiders for packing things in and looking towards a fresh start in 2022. These are not empty platitudes. These are the team leaders, saying out loud to anyone who will listen, "We love this guy. We want him as our head coach and are trying to win to make that happen."<h2>Whether the Raiders' front office will agree with the players' assessment is another story</h2>According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Bisaccia already believed himself a long shot to keep his job even after the Raiders' surprise postseason appearance.Like his father Al Davis before him, Raiders owner Mark Davis likes to make a splash. Jon Gruden was such a hiring, as was the mammoth contract that he received in the process. It's possible that given the opportunity, Davis would again be looking to make a blockbuster play, with Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh being the biggest potential name floated around in this year's NFL coaching carousel.But while keeping Bisaccia might not be the headline-grabbing move that the Raiders have made throughout their history, it could be the right one for this team at this moment.Leaders on the team are all but pleading with their own front office to keep Bisaccia in his spot. Time and time again, when this year's campaign could have gone off the rails, Bisaccia had his team ready to play, earning them a postseason date against the Cincinnati Bengals.As things stand, it's still unclear whether Bisaccia did enough to keep his job in the eyes of the people making the decision.If he can secure the Raiders their first playoff win since 2002 this weekend, the calls for his return will only get louder.

Saturday was working for ESPN as an analyst weeks earlier and had never coached at the professional or even collegiate level. No one left on the Colts staff had called plays, so the duty fell to assistant quarterbacks coach Parks Frazier.With all of the chaos surrounding the days leading up to the Colts' trip to Las Vegas, it felt as though the Raiders should have rolled in this game. Instead, they rolled over, losing their third straight.Speaking with reporters after the game, Raiders quarterback Derek Carr was overcome with emotion, pausing several times to collect himself before finishing his answers."I love the Silver and Black and I'm going to give it everything I can every time I go out there," Carr said. "And I can't speak for everybody, for every man, what's going on in their head, but I can tell you what's going on in my head and I'm going to give it all that I can, every single time.""Sorry for being emotional," he continued, shifting his weight from side to side. "I'm just pissed off about some of the things, you know, that a lot of us try and do just to practice. Free from the dreadful clutches of Adam Gase and the New York Jets, Darnold was developing into the passer and player that he was always capable of becoming.Since then, the Panthers have lost four straight games, including Sunday's dismal 25-3 showing against the New York Giants. Darnold completed just 16 of his 25 passes for 111 yards and an interception on the day and was ultimately benched in the fourth quarter for PJ Walker.Darnold still has a hold on the starting job in Carolina for now. However, it's less clear whether or not the team will be as eager to keep Darnold under center moving forward, especially if he continues to struggle through the second half of the season.<h2>WINNER: Cincinnati Bengals</h2>We are almost halfway through the season, and the Cincinnati Bengals are the top team in the AFC. Think about that for a second. If the season ended today (it doesn't, but still), the Bengals would have a first-round bye in the postseason, and the road to the Super Bowl would run through Cincinnati.The Bengals' brilliant start comes thanks to the play of second-year quarterback Joe Burrow and the standout debut of rookie receiver Ja'Marr Chase. Chase has 754 receiving yards, the most ever through seven career games.With road wins over the Ravens and Steelers already in their pocket, the Bengals have control of the AFC North right now. If they can keep playing at the level they've started the season at and avoid the injury bug, they could be a force come January.<h2>LOSER: Kansas City Chiefs</h2><div type="image" title="Patrick Mahomes lays on the field after a play against the Tennessee Titans." height="1777" width="2372" msid="87264455" hostid="261"></div>After <a href="https://www.insider.com/video-patrick-mahomes-hit-wobbly-2021-10" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a blowout loss to the Titans</a>, the Chiefs are 3-4 and sit third in the AFC West. Mahomes and the Chiefs play in primetime next week against the New York Giants in what should be a get-right game for the former AFC favorites.If Kansas City can't knock out the Giants, they're in for a struggle. Their next three games on the schedule: Packers, Raiders, Cowboys. Fake punts, surprise onside kicks, no bit of trickeration was off-limits.It was great fun to watch, and at points, surprisingly successful!Unfortunately, it wasn't enough. Campbell and the Lions lost 28-19 to fall to 0-7 on the season.<h2>WINNER: Zach Ertz</h2>Zach Ertz was playing second-fiddle to Dallas Goedert in Philadelphia. However, in his first game with the Arizona Cardinals, he showed he's ready to be a potent addition to an already dangerous offense.The Cardinals are the last undefeated team in the NFL and have a Thursday night showdown against the Green Bay Packers that could very well be a preview of the NFC Championship.<h2>LOSER: Houston Texans</h2>Houston jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the Cardinals, then gave up 31 unanswered points over the final 40 minutes of play.Even with the early deficit, the Cardinals spent much of the day playing with their food.Better luck next time.<h2>WINNER: Kyle Pitts</h2>As every NFL broadcast was eager to remind you, Sunday was designated National Tight Ends Day. Rookie Kyle Pitts and the Atlanta Falcons were ready to celebrate.Pitts finished with seven receptions for 163 yards, leading the Falcons to a 30-28 win over the Miami Dolphins.

"I still own you. I still own you.""I looked up in the stands, and in the front row, all I saw was a woman giving me the double bird," Rodgers said after the game. "So I'm not sure exactly what came out of my mouth next."With a 22-5 career record against the Bears, it's hard to argue with Rodgers' claim of ownership.<h2>LOSER: Detroit Lions</h2>The Detroit Lions are now the last remaining winless team in the NFL. If you want one stat to exemplify just how bad things are in Detroit right now, there are plenty of options, but this is my favorite.Not ideal.<h2>WINNER: Jacksonville Jaguars</h2>The Jacksonville Jaguars won their first game since Week 1 of 2020, taking down the Miami Dolphins in London. Jacksonville first tied the game 20-20 with one of the most mind-blowing kicks you'll ever see. Look at this thing turn.After the Dolphins turned the ball over on downs, the Jaguars faced fourth-and-8 from the Dolphins' 44-yard line with just five seconds remaining in a tie game. Head coach Urban Meyer could have sent out kicker Matthew Wright for what would have been a 61-yard field goal, or put his offense back on the field for a hail mary attempt.Instead, the Jaguars ran a quick slant over the middle, picking up the first down and calling a timeout with just one second left on the clock, leaving Wright to kick a much more manageable 53-yard field goal for the win.It was an impressive decision from Meyer, and it paid off. That said, even with the win, it's still been more than a year since the Jaguars tasted victory on American soil.<h2>LOSER: Sportsbooks</h2>In the early window of Sunday's schedule, seven games were played. All seven teams that were favored to win not only won, but covered the spread.Bettors tend to bet the favorites, especially in parlays, teasers, and other small bets that can result in huge payouts. With all of the favorites covering early, it was a tough day for the sportsbooks."It's a bloodbath," Caesars vice president of trading Craig Mucklow <a href="https://www.reviewjournal.com/sports/sports-columns/todd-dewey/bloodbath-for-sportsbooks-as-nfl-betting-favorites-dominate-2461879/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told the Las Veags Review-Journal</a>. "There's going to be plenty of money to play with at Caesars, that's for sure."Do not have sympathy for the sportsbooks, I assure you they are doing fine. Here's to hoping all the casual bettors out there made some cash this weekend.<h2>WINNER: Trevon Diggs</h2>With just over two minutes remaining, the Cowboys trailed the Patriots 21-20, with New England starting a drive that could have ended the game.When they needed him most, Cowboys defensive superstar Trevon Diggs made a play, picking off Mac Jones and taking his interception to the house to put the Cowboys up 26-21.The pick tied an NFL record as Diggs' seventh interception in six games. He had put his team ahead. He was on top of the world. What could possibly go wrong?<h2>LOSER: Trevon Diggs</h2>On the very next play from scrimmage, Diggs got absolutely bamboozled in coverage, giving up a 75-yard touchdown to Kendrick Bourne.Easy come, easy go. The only problem? Just underneath his video introduction was a graphic informing viewers he was ranked 62nd out of 85 safeties in the league, according to Pro Football Focus.Jamal Adams is a fine player, and PFF rankings are hardly the end-all be-all of player evaluating. Still, talk about poor timing.

If the Jaguars upset the Colts and the Steelers beat the Ravens, both the Raiders and Chargers could make it to the postseason with a tie.The hypothetical scenario created plenty of fodder for talk shows throughout the week. If the tie scenario was live heading into the game, couldn't both teams decide to kneel out 60 minutes of game time and 10 minutes of overtime, shake hands, and head off into the postseason?They could! It wouldn't happen — both head coaches acknowledged that they would be playing to win — but it could!Then Sunday happened. The Colts no-showed against the Jaguars, losing in embarrassing fashion. The Steelers pulled out an overtime win against the Ravens.The tie-pocalypse was in play.The Chargers and Raiders kicked off their game, and it was clear that the coaches weren't bluffing — their teams were playing to win. With the Raiders leading by 15 with five minutes left in the game, it looked like Las Vegas was set to punch their ticket to the postseason and send Los Angeles packing.Then the Chargers scored and converted their two-point conversion. After a stop, the Chargers then drove the field, converting three do-or-die fourth downs before scoring on the final play of regulation.We were going to overtime.Again, kneeling the game out was still an option. Both teams played well, and both were deserving of a spot in the postseason.Instead, they kept playing, but fate wouldn't allow them to avoid the inevitable. The Chargers and Raiders traded field goals in the extra period, leaving the Raiders with the ball with 4:30 left in the extra period. Next score wins.At the start of their final possession, the Raiders seemed content to play it safe, rushing the ball with Josh Jacobs rather than taking on any risky throws. With the risk of a botched snap or blocked kick or return out of the end zone looming, it's possible that at that point, they would have been satisfied with letting the game end in a tie.But after Jacobs' big gain, Las Vegas was left with a much more manageable 47-yard field goal attempt and had a kicker in Daniel Carlsen, who had never missed inside the dome of their home stadium.Further, the Raiders had the motivation to win.
