The SEC's 'Crypto Mom' Hester Peirce says selling fractionalized NFTs could be illegal

<ul><li>The parent company of dating apps Match is suing <keyword id="6355629" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="google" source="Orion">Google</keyword>.</li><li>Earlier, Match Group was Google’s partner.</li><li>Lawsuit was filed on Monday in California’s Northern District, accusing the company of using anticompetitive tactics.</li></ul>Google has been sued by Match Group, the company behind popular dating apps such as <keyword id="1738241" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tinder" source="Orion">Tinder</keyword> and OkCupid, over its restrictive billing policies on Android Play Store. Match Group claimed that the tech giant "illegally monopolised the market for distributing apps" on Android by forcing apps to use its own billing system, and then taking a cut of the payments. "Ten years ago, Match Group was Google's partner. We are now its hostage. Google lured app developers to its platform with assurances that we could offer users a choice over how to pay for the services they want," it said in the lawsuit. The lawsuit is reminiscent of Epic Games-Apple legal fight over the same issue on Apple App Store payment policies. Epic Games, the developer of Fortnite game, filed a lawsuit against Apple in 2020, alleging that the iPhone maker engaged in "anti-competitive" behaviour by demanding a 30 per cent commission on in-app purchases in the iOS app store. A federal judge in the US then directed Apple to let developers add links to external payment options on the App Store, denying the tech giant's motion for a stay. Although Apple largely won that lawsuit, the US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers sided with the Fortnite publisher, regarding restrictions on in-app purchases on the App Store. In its lawsuit, Match Group said: "Google controls it all: the dominant marketplace for Android apps; the only means to purchase apps in the marketplace; and the messaging inside the marketplace so that consumers cannot learn of lower-priced options elsewhere. "Google lured app developers to its platform with assurances that we could offer users a choice over how to pay for the services they want. "But once it monopolized the market for Android app distribution with Google Play by riding the coattails of the most popular app developers, Google sought to ban alternative in-app payment processing services so it could take a cut of nearly every in-app transaction on Android." A Google spokesperson said that the lawsuit is "just a continuation of Match Group's self-interested campaign to avoid paying for the significant value they receive from the mobile platforms they've built their business on". "Match Group's apps are eligible to pay just 15 per cent on Google Play for digital subscriptions, which is the lowest rate among major app platforms. But even if they don't want to comply with Google Play's policies, Android's openness still provides them multiple ways of distributing their apps to Android users," the company stressed. South Korea's Cabinet in March approved a bill that would ban app store operators from forcing developers to use their own in-app payment systems. Under the revised enforcement decree, app store operators will have to pay up to 2 per cent of their revenue for forcing developers to use their own in-app payment systems, and 1 per cent for delays in reviewing apps, according to the Korea Communications Commission. Nasdaq surges on tech-stock strength as Treasury yields cool from 14-month high

<keyword id="6367091" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="petrol" source="Orion">Petrol</keyword> and <keyword id="6397171" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="diesel-prices" source="Orion">diesel prices</keyword> increased again on Wednesday after a two-day break as global oil prices failed to relent and continued to remain firm. Accordingly, the pump price of petrol in <keyword id="66" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi" source="Orion">Delhi</keyword> increased by 35 paise per litre to jump to ₹107.94 a litre while diesel prices also increased by the same margin to reach ₹96.67 a litre, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers. In the financial capital <keyword id="6358070" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mumbai" source="Orion">Mumbai</keyword>, <keyword id="107991" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Petrol-prices" source="Orion">petrol prices</keyword> have now risen to ₹113.80 per litre while diesel to ₹104.8 5 a litre, the highest among all metros. Across the country as well petrol and diesel prices increased between 35-40 paise per litre, but their retail rates varied depending on the level of local taxes on petroleum products. The fuel prices remained static last week on Monday and Tuesday, but had risen for four straight days by 35 paise per litre previously before again rising for five consecutive days between Wednesday and Sunday. It remained static again on Monday and Tuesday before rising again on Wednesday. There was no change in rates on October 12 and 13. Diesel prices have now increased for 25 of the last 33 days taking up its retail price by ₹8.15 per litre in Delhi. With diesel prices rising sharply, the fuel is now available at over ₹100 a litre in several parts of the country. This dubious distinction was earlier available to petrol that had crossed ₹100 a litre-mark across the country a few months earlier. Petrol prices had maintained stability since September 5, but oil companies finally raised the pump prices last week and this week given a spurt in the product prices lately. Petrol prices have also risen on 22 of the previous 29 days taking up its pump price by ₹6.75 per litre. Crude prices have been on a surge rising over three year high level of over $ 86 a barrel now as global demand remains firm while OPEC+ continues to move slowly on increasing production. Since September 5, when both petrol and diesel prices were revised, the price of petrol and diesel in the international market is higher by around $9-10 per barrel as compared to average prices during August. Canadian TD Bank's move for Cowen underscores desire for a bigger piece of the investment-banking pie

<ul><li><keyword id="6355629" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="google">Google</keyword> is allowing <keyword id="7133637" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="crypto-companies">crypto companies</keyword> to advertise on its network again starting today, August 3.</li><li>The largest ad network in the world had banned crypto ads in March, earlier this year.</li><li>The new policy is only open to crypto wallets based out of the US and registered with the FinCEN.</li></ul>Crypto ads are back on Google’s advertising platforms after the company revised its policies in June, but it’s not nearly as open as before. The policy imposed an overarching ban on almost every crypto product, including exchanges, wallets and more. The ads, however, will be displayed globally. Google also required crypto businesses to be registered with the US Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) as a Money Services Business with at least one state as a money transmitter. This lends some more credibility to businesses advertising on its network. While crypto wallets and exchanges are in the clear, Google still won’t allow advertising about ICOs and DeFi trading protocols. The company said it will also prevent the advertising of products that are “otherwise promoting the purchase, sale or trade of cryptocurrencies or related products”, and provided a non-exhaustive list for what this might include. “ICO pre-sales or public offerings, cryptocurrency loans, initial DEX offerings, token liquidity pools, celebrity cryptocurrency endorsements, unhosted wallets, unregulated DApps,” are some of the examples of products that are still banned, according to the tech giant. This means that crypto trading signals, crypto investment advice and aggregators or affiliate sites which contain related content — or broker reviews — will be banned from advertising. Essentially, Google doesn’t want companies that aggregate or compare issuers of cryptos to advertise on its platforms. While the crypto community may take the change in Google’s policies as a shot in the arm, the tech giant may be right to keep the above limitations. “Facebook ads are plastered with crypto scams. Google is bringing back crypto ads — but is leaving a lot of crypto companies out of the loop

As per the latest NASSCOM-PGA Labs report, India’s startups have raised $6.5 billion across 160 deals in the second quarter of 2021. Eleven startups also turned unicorns — companies valued at above $1 billion — in the same quarter, taking the total tally to 53. While many reports had previously suggested that India would have 100 unicorns by 2025, the number has been revised to 150 due to the massive uptick in funding as well as unicorn rounds.. Interestingly, 11 startups had entered the unicorn club in 2020. "Q2 2021 has been impeccable for the startup growth story. From being the most funded quarter, it has also added the most number of unicorns. Standing tall during the pandemic second wave headwinds, the Indian startup ecosystem has shown a strong resilience in this quarter," the report said.
