The Mahindra Group company posted a net profit of Rs 493.9 crore in the year-ago period, according to an exchange filing. Revenue rose by 3.49 per cent to Rs 13,313.2 crore in the second quarter of 2024-25 compared to Rs 12,863.9 crore in the same quarter of 2023-24. "Other income includes gain on sale of property of Rs 4,502 million which comprises of freehold land and its related buildings along with the furniture &amp; fixtures sold for a consideration of Rs 5,350 million, receivable over a period of four years along with interest of 8.2 per cent p.a," the company filing said. Sequentially, net profit rose by 46.81 per cent and revenue by 2.36 per cent. "We continue to progress on our strategic improvement efforts even as the overall IT services industry has remained soft. "We have focused on strengthening client relationships and expanding the partner ecosystem while maintaining a sharp focus on operational excellence through project Fortius, which has resulted in an expansion of margins for the third sequential quarter," Tech Mahindra CEO Mohit Joshi said. The CEO unveiled Project Fortius in April, a three-year plan to achieve a 15 per cent operating margin with a focus on organic growth. "This quarter we see consistent performance around increasing deal wins, <keyword id="19965932" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="revenue-growth" source="keywords">revenue growth</keyword>, cost optimisation and steady free cash flow generation as we continue our journey towards FY27 stated targets. In line with our capital allocation policy the board has declared an interim dividend of Rs 15 per share," Tech Mahindra CFO Rohit Anand said. "We continue to invest in strengthening our fresher hiring program, building the right mindset and future skilling and associates, by building capabilities in AI-first and cloud-first skill sets," he told reporters. Tech Mahindra profit jumps over 2-times to ₹1,250 crore in Jul-Sep quarter

Coke Zero sales jump, helping Coca-Cola beat forecasts despite revenue dip

India's largest airline with a market share of 62.5% and Asia's biggest carrier by market valuation, <keyword id="19899182" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="IndiGo" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="IndiGo" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="IndiGo">Indigo</keyword>, posted a net loss of Rs 986.7 crore for the last quarter ended September 30, 2024. Indigo's profits during this quarter in 2023 were Rs 188.9 crore. The main reason behind the carrier running into reds during the second quarter of FY25 was high <keyword id="21353061" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fuel-costs" source="keywords">fuel costs</keyword>. Per the airline, its fuel costs jumped by 12.8% to Rs 6,605.2 crore, compared to Rs 5,856 crore in the year-ago period. Another expense area that witnessed an exponential surge was aircraft and engine rentals, which rose to Rs 763.6 crore in the second quarter. This stood at Rs 195.6 crore in the year-ago period. All in all, the company's total expenses burgeoned 22% to Rs 18,666.1 crore during the previous quarter. Indigo's <keyword id="20066400" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="revenue-from-operations" source="keywords">revenue from operations</keyword>, while down by 13.3% on a QoQ basis, from Rs 19,571 crore in June 2024 to Rs 16,970 crore as of September 2023, jumped 13.6% on a YoY basis. The company's revenue from operations during the September quarter in 2023 stood at Rs 14,944 crore. Indigo’s consolidated top line also jumped 14% YoY to Rs 16,970 crore, which included Rs 14,359 crore of <keyword id="23687772" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ticketing-revenue" source="keywords">ticketing revenue</keyword> and Rs 1,875 crore earned from ancillary services. At the end of September 2024, Indigo had a fleet of 410 planes. For the last quarter, Indigo was plagued by mass groundings of its aircraft due to faulty engines manufactured by <keyword id="21405019" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pratt-and-Whitney" source="keywords">Pratt and Whitney</keyword> Group. This had forced the airline to ground around 75 planes, or about 1/5th of its fleet. However, in the earnings call today, the management noted that the worst was behind them. Indigo expects the number of non-operational planes to drop below 60 by the end of this year and further dip to 40 by March 2025. Already, the number of grounded aircraft had come down to the high 60s. IndiGo’s cost per available seat kilometer (<keyword id="23687771" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="CASK" source="keywords">CASK</keyword>)—a useful metric to assess an airline's operational efficiency—also inched up 12% YoY to stand at Rs 4.69. The company expects this figure to inch up to double digits by the next quarter. Indigo's stock was down by 3.23% during the day, closing the week at Rs 4,373.70.

For the full financial year 2024, we reported our highest ever total income of around 712 billion rupees (Rs 71,200 crore) with a net profit of around 82 billion rupees (Rs 8,200 crore) and a net profit margin of 11.9 per cent. The 4th quarter financial results were positive, making it all four quarters in FY24 profitable," IndiGo CEO <keyword id="20307450" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pieter-Elbers" source="keywords">Pieter Elbers</keyword> said. It also forecasted fourth-quarters sales in line with Wall Street expectations.In a turnaround from last year's record low sales growth, Amazon Web Services — the firm's AI-driven cloud platform — maintained stable momentum. Cloud revenues rose 19%, and CEO Andy Jassy indicated that Amazon's blowout $75 billion investment for 2025 will largely benefit AWS.During the firm's earnings call, Jassy explained that AI was driving the investment boost.He expressed that the technology is "a really unusually large, maybe once-in-a-lifetime type of opportunity. And I think our customers, the business, and our shareholders will feel good about this long term; that we're aggressively pursuing it."The company's cost cutting efforts have allowed the firm to pursue larger investments in these areas. With more efficiencies suggested ahead, Bank of America expects continued margin expansion through 2025.Amazon also delivered a retail beat, despite low expectations. Although Wall Street was concerned that headwinds would weaken the firm's consumer base, its online store grew 7% year-over-year, outpacing consensus estimates of 4%.According to the bank, efficiencies in the cost of servicing customers and ad growth helped drive the estimate-beat.

One source told the newspaper that Uber hasn't formally approached Expedia, and there were no ongoing discussions between the two companies.<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/inside-the-happiest-workplace-in-the-uk-where-staff-can-get-a-14000-travel-allowance-2016-3">Expedia</a>, which owns the eponymous travel-booking website as well as Hotels.com and Vrbo, would be Uber's biggest acquisition. Uber posted $9.9 billion of revenue and $652 million of operating income in 2023, as users booked more than 2.6 billion trips.A merger would contribute to Uber's ambition of becoming a "<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/uber-amazon-of-transportation-inside-effort-2021-9">super app</a>." Previous acquisitions such as Postmates and Transplace have allowed it to offer car, plane, train, and boat rides on its platform, as well as restaurant and grocery delivery. Shares of Nvidia have been on a tear, rising 149% year-to-date, making it <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/best-performing-sp500-stock-utility-vistra-energy-ai-power-electricity-2024-10">the second-best-performing S&amp;P 500 stock this year.</a>"Demand for Blackwell is insane," Huang said in an interview with CNBC on Wednesday after the market close.Huang addressed the state of production for the Blackwell chip, as <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/nvidia-ai-chip-blackwell-delay-new-annual-product-launch-2024-8">reports of small redesigns to the chip earlier this year</a> led to slight delays in its rollout to customers."Blackwell is in full production, Blackwell is as planned," Huang said. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Intel lost its chipmaking lead years ago and is struggling to regain it.</li><li>Qualcomm could sell parts of Intel to other buyers, WSJ reported.</li></ul><a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ai-is-in-our-dna-says-qualcomm-cmo-don-mcguire-2024-6">Qualcomm</a> is interested in acquiring <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/intel-ceo-pat-gelsinger-turnaround-plan-aws-2024-9">Intel</a>, the Wall Street Journal <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.wsj.com/business/deals/qualcomm-approached-intel-about-a-takeover-in-recent-days-fa114f9d">reported</a> Friday. It's the latest potential development in the sad decline of a US tech powerhouse. A deal is not a certainty, and could face antitrust hurdles, WSJ explained, citing unidentified people familiar with the matter. Qualcomm could sell parts of Intel to other buyers to get any deal done, the newspaper added. Intel shares surged about 10% in afternoon trading on Friday, following the WSJ report. It closed up 3.3% on the day, and added a little more in after-hours action. Intel was once the world's largest chipmaker and a US technology powerhouse. Around 2018, this leadership began to crumble as <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tsmc-power-players-14-execs-leading-worlds-biggest-chipmaker-2024-9">TSMC</a> steadily took over as the chip manufacturer of choice for most big tech companies, including Nvidia, Apple and Qualcomm. Qualcomm makes chips used in smartphones, including Apple iPhones, a market Intel <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/intel-ceo-pat-gelsinger-turnaround-plan-aws-2024-9">missed out on</a>. Intel mostly sells chips for PCs and data center servers, although Nvidia's GPUs have made serious inroads into this lucrative data center business. <h2 id="293ee582-19df-4433-9b2e-8e64315e92bf">An "odd" fit</h2>Semianalysis chief analyst Dylan Patel said Qualcomm and Intel would be an "odd" fit."It would result in a lot of duplicate intellectual property, so there would need to be significant cost cutting," he told Business Insider."Furthermore, Qualcomm has no ability to turn around the data center business, which is the most important one," he continued.Qualcomm would also struggle to improve Intel's Foundry business, Patel added. This foundry business makes chips for other companies and competes (ineffectively so far) with TSMC, which is now the clear world leader.An Intel spokesperson declined to comment. Qualcomm did not respond to a request for comment at the time of publication.<a target="_blank" rel="" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/intel-ceo-chip-largest-silicon-manufacturing-location-plant-ohio-2022-1">Pat Gelsinger</a> took over Intel as CEO in 2021 and attempted to reverse the tech giant's downward slide. The company's revenue has declined in recent years while rivals like Nvidia, TSMC, and Broadcom are riding the artificial intelligence wave to new heights. So far, Gelsinger has been perceived as unsuccessful and the company announced plans for 15,000 layoffs last month.On Monday, Intel announced a partnership with Amazon Web Services in which the chipmaker will produce custom designs for the cloud giant in what the companies called a "multi-year, multi-billion-dollar framework." Intel's stock shot up on Monday's announcement.Intel has mostly missed the AI boom. Its Gaudi 3 AI chip, intended to compete with Nvidia and AMD, is expected to generate just $500 million in sales this year. Nvidia will pull in many billions of dollars in the same period. Qualcomm has made moves toward competing more directly with Nvidia in the age of AI. The company joined a coalition called the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/nvidia-face-first-major-threat-rivals-software-cuda-ai-chips-2024-3">UXL Foundation</a> last year, along with Google and Intel with the objective of making hardware-agnostic software to go up against <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/nvidia-cuda-software-gpu-ai-chips-cerebras-ipo-2024-6">Nvidia's dominant CUDA platform.</a>
