<br /><ul><li><strong>India-origin <keyword id="6179725" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reuben-Singh">Reuben Singh</keyword> has stormed the Internet with pictures of his Rolls Royce elite cars.<br /></strong></li><li><strong>The 42-year-old Singh flaunted matching cars with the color of his turban, in a challenge laid for charity.<br /></strong></li><li><strong>Singh was listed in ‘Guinness Book of World Records’ in 1998 as the youngest self-made millionaire. </strong></li></ul>Reuben Singh, of Indian origin who was dubbed ‘Europe’s Bill Gates’ back in 1999, has <a href="https://www.news18.com/news/auto/london-based-indian-origin-businessman-reuben-singh-buys-6-rolls-royce-worth-rs-50-crore-2024483.html">stormed the Internet</a> with fancy pictures of his 15 Rolls Royce luxury cars.<br /><br />Singh, who was introduced to the family business at an early age, started his own business at the age of 18 with the launch of his first store ‘Miss Attitude.’ He now <a href="http://www.informationng.com/2018/01/meet-billionaire-reuben-singh-who-matches-color-of-his-turban-with-a-matching-rolls-royce.html">owns</a> two companies including alldayPA, which deals in call handling technology and Isher Capital, a private equity firm. The two companies employ over 500 people.<br /><br />However, Singh has had a bumpy path to success. According to media reports, he went bankrupt in 2007 with over £11 million in debt when he lost control of his firm alldayPA. But he gravitated back with control as the CEO of his company in 2015.<br /><br />In fact, Singh, who was once<a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/UKs-Indian-millionaire-is-a-fraud-and-broke/articleshow/2506907.cms"> listed </a>in ‘Guinness Book of World Records’ as the youngest self-made millionaire. At 30, Fortune magazine estimated him to have more than £95 million, while in 2002, he was named as ‘Asian Entrepreneur of the year’. But was later <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/UKs-Indian-millionaire-is-a-fraud-and-broke/articleshow/2506907.cms">alleged</a> by a judge in the local court in Manchester for fraudulently procuring loans and making it to the rich list.<strong><br /><br />Here’s an insight to his journey:<br /><br />

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><ul class="summary-list"><li>Brian Ahern is co-head of the London music division of William Morris Entertainment (WME), one of the biggest talent agencies in the world.</li><li>He told Business Insider that the concept of a "rock star" is evolving.</li><li>He believes hip hip is so widely accepted now that it's "probably the new rock and roll," and the likes of Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar are the new rock stars.</li><li>Along with traditional musicians like Drake and Rihanna, the agency works with digital stars and influencers like Casey Neistat and Lily Singh.</li><li>Ahern believes these modern artists are rock stars in their own right, too.</li></ul><p>Brian Ahern knows the music industry inside and out.</p><p>He started in the mailroom of <a href="http://wmeentertainment.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">William Morris Entertainment (WME),</a> an <a href="http://wmeentertainment.com/network/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Endeavour network</a> talent agency which is one of the biggest in the world and looks after actors, musicians, athletes, and authors like Rihanna, Drake, Ryan Reynolds, Adele, Oprah Winfrey, Lewis Hamilton, LeBron James, and Serena Williams.</p><p>Now, he heads up the company's entire music division in London.</p><p>Ahern told Business Insider he originally studied finance and was "not really a music guy" until he met with a Hollywood producer in Los Angeles who suggested he try working for a talent agency.</p><p>He applied to a number of agencies and was hired by WME in LA, where he worked in the mailroom for nine months before going on to work as a line agent for indie bands. He became an assistant to Lollapalooza cofounder Marc Geiger (head of music at WME), which he said taught him a lot about the "backbone of the music industry."</p><p>"He [was] representing bands like The Pixies and Nine Inch Nails," he said. "I got a lot of perspective of the business - not just booking bands. I worked with him for almost two years and then he sent me on the road."</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Ahern worked as a tour manager "jumping off trucks and tour buses" across the US, which he said is something "a lot of agents don't have experience doing."</p><p>From 2005, he became an agent doing what he called the "normal day job" of booking shows for artists and bands, including rappers and DJs.</p><p>He even went on to run the EDM department with a colleague, overseeing the DJ business, which involved Las Vegas and was a "cool experience."</p><p><em><strong>Read more: </strong><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/laidback-luke-dj-mental-health-following-avicii-death-2018-10?r=US&amp;IR=T" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DJs like Laidback Luke say their mental health is being damaged by the brutal pressures of the music industry</a></em></p><p>In 2016, Geiger asked him to move to London to run the music department alongside co-head David Levy - a role Ahern has been doing for two and a half years.</p><p>His role mainly involves coordinating with the company's offices and teams around the world and working out how to grow the business. However, he still books shows and festivals for his own clients, which he explained is the main job of a talent agent.</p><h2>The role of the talent agent</h2><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Ahern calls the artist the "CEO of their enterprise," but added that they "outsource a lot of their responsibilities on a day-to-day [basis] because they're supposed to be creative individuals."</p><p>"I think ultimately the artist is the decision-maker in every equation, [but] they may trust people to make a lot of decisions for them," he added.</p><p>These people include lawyers, publicists, an "army of people at record labels" including marketing, in-house publicists, and A&amp;R people, then business managers "doing the finance and number crunching and making sure they can afford to live," financial planners for people who "have a lot of money and want to invest it," plus the manager, who Ahern called "the epicenter of overseeing a lot on their behalf," from "making sure the kids get picked up from school" to "dealing with the finances and talking to the lawyer about what they need to be doing."</p><p>Then there's the talent agent, who traditionally books shows and events on behalf of an artist.</p><p>"Some artists only require us to book shows and that's a one-dimensional job at times," Ahern said.</p><p>Read more: <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/laidback-luke-dj-mental-health-following-avicii-death-2018-10?r=US&amp;IR=T" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DJs like Laidback Luke say their mental health is being damaged by the brutal pressures of the music industry</a></p><p>The booking process involves looking at the festivals and shows happening over the next few years and figuring out when and where an artist wants to play.</p><p>"Somebody we represent globally, we look at when's the best time to be in Australia, when's the best time to be in Asia, similarly Europe, the UK, US, South America, Mexico," Ahern said.</p><p>"Lollapalooza is in South America around March, we want to be there, we want to be at Coachella in April, Glastonbury in June, Reading and Leeds in August - we look at those things."</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>He added that there are some venues that are considered to be prestigious because they've been associated with historic artists.</p><p>"If you're a big Zeppelin fan and you know they did something at [London's Royal] Albert Hall, you might say 'I really want to do something at Albert Hall someday,'" he said. "Some of it's alignment with personal goals of the artist - they might be interested in stadiums, they might be interested in small clubs that service their fanbase."</p><p>He added that performing at the likes of Coachella, New York's Governors Ball, Glastonbury, or Reading "lends credibility" to an artist.</p><p>&#xa0;</p><p>"In the past it used to be a lot more album cycle driven - the record drops here so we'd have to figure out where to tour on the back of that. Now it's a little bit more [about] where are the looks we want to get, where do we gain notoriety, where do we gain market share [or] the most eyeballs?"</p><p>He added that venues have availability issues and there are "bumps along the way."</p><p>"Someone gets sick and we have to make adjustments, all the way through to fulfillment when the tour happens," he said.</p><h2>Artist first, musician second</h2><p>However, he said that at WME, the role of the booking agent has involved into more of a "consultant."</p><p>"We still do our primary function and responsibility, [but] the agency has other wings and departments to service clients needs, so if they want to write a book or star in a movie or go into business or whatever it is, we're here to employ ourselves in that way as well. As a full service agency we want to help the artist build their career across the world."</p><p>"We're here to fulfill their desires but also be the expert in the room, the doctor you go to for advice. You don't go in and tell your doctor 'This is how you're going to operate on my leg,' the doctor says what's best for you to get better."</p><p>WME has helped artists get into movies (either through acting or getting a spot on the soundtrack) or land brand partnerships, like becoming the face of Coach or Rolls Royce.</p><p>"My colleagues are able to jump into those arrangements and say, 'Here's the right brand to be associated with, here's what we can get from that."</p><p>"Obviously sometimes [these deals] arise because of their own notoriety, but often times we bring those opportunities to them directly and solicit for them on their behalf."</p><p><em><strong>Read more: </strong><a href="https://www.thisisinsider.com/rihanna-net-worth-makes-money-2018-9" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rihanna has a reported net worth of $260 million- here's how she built her diverse empire</a></em></p><p>There are a few other unexpected tasks that come up along the way, too.</p><p>"Tyler the Creator built a festival in LA we were heavily involved with," Ahern said. "He's a genius and creative mastermind... but we have a team that were able to help him.</p><p>"You may look at an [artist] as an actor first, as a musician first, but we look at them as an artist. Putting them into multiple places is important."</p><h2>Digital celebrities</h2><p>Part of Hen's job has also involved learning to adapt to the constantly changing concept of what a celebrity or artist actually is.</p><p>Along with its Motion Picture, Television, Endorsement, Music, Theater, Book, Sports, and Speakers divisions, WME also now has a "Digital" business, looking after the likes of YouTube stars and influencers like Joe Sugg (8.5 million YouTube subscribers), gamer JackSepticEye (20 million YouTube subscribers), Casey Neistat (11 million subscribers), and Lily Singh (14.5 million YouTube subscribers.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>"Kids are looking into small screens rather than big screens, or both, and that has created new stars and celebrities, which is why we have a digital department at WME that's global," Ahern said. "I think your Jake Paul or Lily Singh or Casper Lee or Joe Sugg or whoever it is, those people are rock stars in their own right now too.&#xa0;</p><p>"They may not play music every day - though Joe does music as part of his discipline - but I think some of those other people, they have their own credibility, their own sway in the marketplace as a result of being present in kids' lives every day."</p><p><em><strong>Read more:</strong> <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/highest-paid-youtube-stars-2018-12?r=US&amp;IR=T" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The 10 highest-paid YouTubers include the Paul brothers and a 7-year-old toy reviewer - here's the full list</a></em></p><p>Ahern added that the distribution of content "leads to more opportunities for these artists, more tours, more everything."</p><p>"We took a company mandate a few years ago to sign as many of them as humanly possible right off the bat to make sure we were positioning ourselves to be competitive in the long run with the next crop of talent. Digital talent is just talent in general... they're just traditional talent, traditional actors, musicians in the making, they're just breaking in a different medium and they're doing it themselves in a lot of ways."</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>"We recognized that eventually they were going to populate a lot of the big screens just like they did the little screens, and [we'd] probably see them some day next to a Hugh Jackman or Matt Damon or whomever it is... Some of them want to stay in their bedrooms and do what they do because they're good at it and they get paid well, that's what they're comfortable with, but some of them want to go on tour and do a podcast and so different stuff."</p><p>He added that the money they earn is comparable to other non-digital A-list celebrities, too.</p><p>"Digital talent doesn't have a ceiling," he said. "You can't draw a distinction between an entire genre and another genre to say this one sells better than that one, but demand is demand - if people want to see something, they want to pay to see it.</p><p>"Some of the digital or YouTube stars or podcasts that we tour, tour similarly to some of the other live events that we book."</p><h2>The new 'rock stars'</h2><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Ahern said within the company, there are a lot of debates about "what a rock star is any more."</p><p>"I think obviously there are people that are popular for very different reasons, whether it's their fashion influence or their musical influence or whatever it is. I grew up looking at a rock star as a Robert Plant or a Kurt Cobain or whatever it was, [but that has] certainly evolved.</p><p>"There are examples like that now, but the Travis Scotts of the world are rock stars. They definitely are. The Kendrick Lamars are rock stars... You can be a DJ [too] - Skrillex is a rock star.</p><p>"When you become an iconic artist who has influence culturally, not just with your music but with the words you say and the associations you make and the choices you make as a brand filter or cultural filter or whatever you want to call it, those people are rock stars. They're the people people want to look up to."</p><h2>'I want to remember what I was capable of doing'</h2><p>While his mindset may have changed throughout his career, Ahern has had the chance to work with plenty of traditional rock stars, too.</p><p>He's also seen plenty of them live - a clear perk of the job.</p><p>He recalled seeing the Foo Fighters with his mom when he was a kid - she worked for Delta Air Lines and was able to bring him on trips for free.</p><p>"I missed Nirvana which is my favourite band ever," he said. "I begged my mom to let me go see the Foos... I saw this amazing show. I've never sweated so much in my life. It was great."</p><p>&#xa0;</p><p>Other gig highlights for Ahern include a sound check with Nine Inch Nails when they re-formed the band, and standing on stage when the Pixies got back together in 2004.</p><p>"I have every laminate, every ticket, every backstage pass because I want to remember what I was capable of doing and what I had access to," he said. A music executive at one of the world's biggest talent agencies says hip hop is the new rock and roll, and Travis Scott is the new rock star

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Three years after a deadly clash, India and China's disputed border in the Himalayas remains tense.</li><li>Both sides are beefing up their presence there, basing more troops and building more infrastructure.</li></ul><p>Three years after the first deadly clash on India's and China's disputed Himalayan border in decades, the region <a href="https://www.usip.org/publications/2023/05/why-we-should-all-worry-about-china-india-border-dispute" target="_blank" rel="noopener">remains tense</a>.</p><p>Repeated rounds of talks over disengagement <a href="https://thewire.in/diplomacy/no-progress-on-resolving-chinese-border-ingress-in-ladakh-in-18th-round-of-military-talks" target="_blank" rel="noopener">have failed</a>, and Chinese and Indian soldiers were wounded in another <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/india/india-china-border-scuffle-injured-troops-both-sides-indian-defence-minister-2022-12-13/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">brawl</a> in December. Both countries continue <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/both-china-india-ramp-up-infrastructure-on-north-bank-of-pangong-tso/article67034490.ece" target="_blank" rel="noopener">to build up</a> military forces and infrastructure around hotspots on the border.</p><p>An important part of that buildup has been China's deployment of light tanks, which can maneuver well on mountainous terrain and deploy quickly in large numbers. Their presence has exposed shortcomings in the Indian military's armored inventory, which relies heavily on main battle tanks that struggle in high altitudes.</p><p>Consequently, India is planning to developing its own light tank to level the playing field.</p><h2>Light tanks</h2><div type="image" title="Army M24 Chaffee light tank Bologna Italy" height="1367" width="1823" msid="101441088" hostid="261" sizebytes="201378"></div><p>Light tanks are intended to provide direct support to infantry against enemy positions and light armored vehicles rather than square off against enemy tanks on their own. Their design puts an emphasis on speed and maneuverability at the cost of armor and firepower.</p><p>Interest in light tanks is growing and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amid-armor-battles-in-ukraine-militaries-building-new-light-tanks-2023-3" target="_top">isn't limited to India and China</a> — the US and Japan are also reinvesting in the concept — but China's and India's need is especially pronounced, as the terrain separating them is particularly difficult for main battle tanks.</p><p>This was <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-india-tanks-armor-could-make-future-war-much-deadlier-2021-5" target="_top">proved</a> in 2020 and 2021, when, as a result of a deadly border clash in Ladakh that killed 20 Indian soldiers and at least four Chinese soldiers, both countries deployed armored units to parts of the Himalayas with altitudes of 11,000 feet and higher.</p><p>The low air pressure at those altitudes hindered the performance of tank engines, and freezing temperatures forced soldiers to turn their armored vehicles on for up to 30 minutes every two or three hours to prevent engine components from freezing. Heavier vehicles also had trouble with the terrain.</p><p>Despite the difficulties for armored vehicles, neither side is willing to deploy troops to the area without them, largely because of the important role tanks still play on the battlefield.</p><h2>The Type 15</h2><div type="image" title="China Type 15 tank" height="1336" width="2000" msid="101441091" hostid="261" sizebytes="107876"></div><p>China has coped with these issues by deploying its <a href="https://www.armyrecognition.com/china_chinese_heavy_armoured_vehicle_tank_uk/vt5_light_weight_main_battle_tank_technical_data_sheet_specifications_pictures_video_11711164.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Type 15</a> light tank, one of the few modern light tanks produced in the 21st century.</p><p>Unveiled <a href="https://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2016-11/03/content_27259981.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">in 2016</a>, the Type 15 — also known as the ZTQ-15 — is billed as a lighter, cheaper alternative to heavier, more complex tanks produced by Russia or Western countries. Weighing in at 33 tons to 36 tons, depending on its load, the Type 15 is considerably lighter than China's 41-ton <a href="https://www.militarytoday.com/tanks/type_96.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Type 96</a> tank and 55-ton <a href="https://www.armyrecognition.com/china_chinese_heavy_armoured_vehicle_tank_uk/ztz99_type_99_wz123_main_battle_tank_technical_data_sheet_information_description_intelligence_uk.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Type 99</a> tank and less than half as heavy as recent versions of the US-made M1 Abrams.</p><p>The Type 15 reportedly entered service in 2018, though it first appeared publicly as an <a href="https://www.armyrecognition.com/september_2019_global_defense_security_army_news_industry/new_light_tank_type_15_at_rehearsal_of_chinese_military_parade.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">in-service</a> tank in 2020 during the military parade for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. China's military is believed to have about 500 in service.</p><div type="image" title="China Type 15 tank" height="1333" width="2000" msid="101441093" hostid="261" sizebytes="194556"></div><p>Its 105 mm rifled gun is equipped with an autoloader and it has an ammo capacity of 38 rounds. Its secondary armament comprises a remotely operated 12.7 mm heavy machine gun and 40 mm automatic grenade launcher. It has a top speed of 43 mph on paved roads and 25 mph off-road.</p><p>The tank is made of standard steel but is fitted with explosive reactive armor blocks on its turret and sides. It can also <a href="https://thediplomat.com/2019/08/chinas-vt5-lightweight-tank-to-be-fitted-with-active-protection-system/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">be equipped</a> with a Chinese-made active protection system.</p><p>The Type 15 is equipped with a suite of modern electronics, including a laser range finder, nighttime and thermal optics, a warning sensor system, satellite communications, and inertial and satellite navigation systems.</p><p>In addition to its weight, the Type 15 has other features that make it suitable for mountainous operations. Its hydro-pneumatic suspension allows it to aim its gun higher or lower than standard tanks, which is useful for targets at high elevations. It also has oxygen generators, which help the engine run at high altitudes.</p><h2>Project Zorawar</h2><div type="image" title="India Arjuna main battle tank" height="1333" width="1777" msid="101441094" hostid="261" sizebytes="382618"></div><p>India's army hasn't had a light tank in service since its Soviet-designed PT-76 was retired in 1989.</p><p>Instead, it relies almost exclusively on its heavily armored <a href="https://nationalinterest.org/blog/buzz/meet-indias-t-90m-bhishma-tank-russian-tech-indian-made-136987" target="_blank" rel="noopener">T-90</a> and <a href="https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/india/t-72.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">T-72</a> tanks, which weigh 43 tons and 46 tons, respectively, and its <a href="https://www.army-technology.com/projects/arjun-mbt/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Arjun series</a> main battle tanks, which weigh between 58 tons and 68 tons. Those tanks were acquired with Pakistan in mind, and they are better suited for open plains and deserts.</p><p>India has tried on and off since 1983 to develop a new light tank but has never settled on a model. The Ladakh clash in 2020 — followed by a Chinese military buildup in which the Type 15 operated with comparative ease — prompted new action to acquire a light tank. (One retired Indian general even <a href="https://raksha-anirveda.com/light-tanks-the-himalayan-game-changer/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">argued</a> that a lack of light tanks hindered India's ability to deter Chinese aggression in the first place.)</p><p>In 2021, the Indian Ministry of Defense <a href="https://www.ddpmod.gov.in/sites/default/files/RFI-Lt%20Tk%2016%20Apr%20%2021%20%28Final%29%20%281%29_0.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">requested information</a> from industry about the production of 350 light tanks, each weighing no more than 25 tons and crewed by two to three people. Additional requirements included an autoloader, a remote-controlled machine-gun, the ability to fire "smart munitions" and anti-tank guided missiles, and the ability to add explosive-reactive-armor blocks.</p><div type="image" title="India army convoy Kashmir Ladakh" height="1710" width="2500" msid="101441098" hostid="261" sizebytes="699856"></div><p>Initially, there was speculation that India might buy the <a href="https://www.armyrecognition.com/russia_russian_army_light_armoured_vehicle_uk/2s25_sprut-sd_self-propelled_anti-tank_gun_technical_data_sheet_specifications_description_uk.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2S25 Sprut-SD</a> from Russia, which has <a href="https://www.financialexpress.com/business/defence-light-tank-tender-russians-ready-to-respond-to-indian-army-tender-2987880/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">repeatedly offered</a> to transfer the technology needed to build it. But the Indian government has indicated that it wants a domestic design, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Make in India" policy.</p><p>Late last year, India's Ministry of Defense approved the purchase of 315 tanks, which will compose seven regiments. Indian media has <a href="https://www.firstpost.com/india/indian-army-concerned-over-chinese-moves-at-lac-may-induct-700-zorawar-light-tanks-12431122.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that India's army may increase the order to nearly 700 tanks.</p><p>Indian multinational firm Larsen &amp; Toubro <a href="https://www.janes.com/defence-news/news-detail/indias-zorawar-programme-inches-forward" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was announced</a> as the government's development partner in September, and the company was <a href="https://www.ajaishukla.com/2023/04/l-gets-order-to-build-prototype-of.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">awarded</a> the contract for the first prototype in April. As India has emerged as the one of the fastest growing civil aviation markets of the world, it is time that the government take steps to make the aviation sector globally competitive beginning with reduction on its tax structure, the head of a low-cost airline has said. <br /><br /> Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, <keyword id="6358032" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="SpiceJet">SpiceJet</keyword>, in an interview to rued that the civil aviation sector in India is highly taxed and identified it as one of the major stumbling blocks in making it globally competitive. <br /><br /> "I think lowering of taxes and looking at aviation in a holistic sense as a job creator, as something that connects India to itself and to the world. It's important that we take a more holistic approach to aviation," he said <br /><br /> Singh was in Washington DC last week as part of a business delegation that accompanied Union Finance Minister <keyword id="129243" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nirmala-Sitharaman">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword> who was here to attend the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. <br /><br /> "What we have been asking for a very long time now is that the government should make Indian aviation competitive with its peers around the world. We should make sure that our costs are in line with our peers around the world," he said. <br /><br /> India, Singh said, is the only country which taxes aviation fuel at an average of about 35 per cent while no other significant aviation country in the world taxes fuel at all. <br /><br /> As such Indian carriers are paying a much higher cost of operation and, therefore, they are not competitive with others. That is one big issue, he said. <br /><br /> "The second big issue is on the maintenance and repair operations. In maintenance and repair operations as well, we pay a GST of 18 per cent," he added. <br /><br /> MROs (Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul) is one space where India can be doing exceedingly well, Singh said. <br /><br /> "We can be repairing our own aircraft. We have the engineering skills. We have the people in India to do this. We have the infrastructure to do it. We have the skills. And despite that a lot of repair and overall active activity actually happens overseas because of the high tax in India," he said. <br /><br /> "As such, it is important to understand that if one imposes such high taxes, then nobody gets any work done and therefore there is no revenue. And when there is no revenue, there's no tax either, he observed. <br /><br /> "So you have to moderate taxes. India can be a huge global base for repair and overall not only for the airlines within India, but for for airlines outside India. So that's a space that we certainly need to look at," Singh said. <br /><br /> He asserted that it is also important that India should build its own international hubs like Dubai, <keyword id="63248" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Abu-Dhabi">Abu Dhabi</keyword>, Doha, Singapore and Bangkok and stop exporting traffic into these hubs and allowing them to distribute traffic around the word. <br /><br /> "It's important for a large country like India to have people go directly from Delhi, Bombay, Bangalore and <keyword id="6354552" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="hyderabad">Hyderabad</keyword> to Europe and the US and the far east. So, we need to ensure that a policy action is taken on that front," Singh said. <br /><br /> He said India has to start looking at the aviation sector in a holistic sense and try and make sure that the system does not make it burdensome to operate the businesses. <br /><br />"We have to ensure that aviation, the airlines themselves succeed," he said. <br /><br /> Of the BRICS countries, Singh said India remains the only one where there is no major assembly facility of either Boeing or Airbus. <br /><br /> That's a space that the government definitely needs to work on, he said. <br /><br /> Observing that India is a very large market, he said there is need to encourage people to come and start build something within India. <br /><br /> "I think the on engine repair for example, again, we need to ensure that a larger engine makers like CFM or Pratt and or Rolls Royce, start by setting up at least the maintenance and repair facilities within India," Singh said. <br /><br /> In the aviation sector, a lot is possible and a lot can be done especially if it is small planes, helicopters, aircraft components, etc, he said. <br /><br /> "But I think we have to work as one team India. The corporate sector as well as the government have to work aggressively with foreign companies that own the technology to encourage them to build in India," Singh said. LKJ AQS AQS
