<br />Reliance Retail's strong 27% growth in quarterly revenue would come as a surprise even for the company that did acknowledge a slowdown in consumption. Subscriber addition by Reliance Jio slowed, so did the average revenue per user, but the company managed to cut costs and make more margin out of its telecom business.<br /><br /><strong>These are some of the top highlights from <keyword id="907891" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance-Industries-earnings">Reliance Industries earnings</keyword>:</strong><br /><br />1. Revenue decreased by 8.4% to ` 94,446 crore ($ 13.3 billion) <br />2. Exports decreased by 12.1% to ` 53,161 crore ($ 7.5 billion) <br />3. Gross Refining Margin (GRM) of $ 9.4/bbl for the quarter <br />4. Refining Throughput of 16.7 MMT during the quarter <br />5. Petchemicals Production of 9.9 MMT during the quarter.<br />6. Reliance Jio'subscriber addition has been less than estimates but margin has improved sharply.<br />7. Jio reported a 45.40% rise in profit at ₹990 crore compared to the same time last year<br />8. The average revenue per Jio user was ₹120.<br />9. Outstanding debt at September end was ₹2.91 lakh crore ($41.2 billion).<br />10. Petrochemicals revenue fell 11.9% compared to the same period last year.<br /><br />"We continue to build our consumer businesses. The strategic partnership with Aramco highlights its value to all stakeholders. Reliance Industries posts record profit-- retail shines despite a slowdown

<br /><br />Refining margins have been muted last few months due to the fall in demand for oil products. Oil product demand growth stalled to nearly zero and there is oversupply of gasoline and naphtha, Morgan Stanley said in a report on July 10. However, <br /><br />According to research firm CGSCIMB, margins from petrochemicals have dropped sharply since April 2019 and the decline has been sharpest in paraxylene, which has flowed through across the polyester chain. That would mean the decline in profit would be pronounced in Reliance mainstay business, the report added.<br /><br />Gross refining margin of $8.1 per barrel in the last quarter was the lowest in 18 quarters.<br /><br />The fear of slump in one of the important business segment has weighed on Reliance's share price in recent months. <br />While Jio may be the rising star in Reliance Industries portfolio spanning from oil and gas exploration to petrochemicals to retail, the telecom venture brings its share of anxiety to the investor's mind-- debt. The company's total debt has increased over 58% in the last two years largely due to the investments made in Jio as well as the cash burnt in winning over the millions of customers.<br /><br />Reliance Jio has today managed to raise as much as ₹25,215 crore from a Canadian asset management company, Brookfield’s subsidiary--BIF IV Jarvis India. Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries profit grows 6.8% even as refining margin hits the lowest in 18 quarters

New Delhi: Telecom operator <keyword id="6354287" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="bharti-airtel">Bharti Airtel</keyword> has removed cap from free outgoing calls on other networks under its new plans for pre-paid customers that came into effect from December 3. The company had earlier capped outgoing calls to network of other telecom operator to 1,000 minutes in case of plans with 28 days validity, 3,000 in 84 days validity plans and 12,000 in 365 days validity plan. Beyond this limit, customers were required to pay 6 paisa per minute for outgoing calls. <br /><br />"From tomorrow, enjoy unlimited calling to any network in India with all our unlimited plans. No conditions apply," Bharti <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword> said in a tweet on Friday. <br /><br />The company on December 1 announced new plans under which call and data charges became dearer for its pre-paid customers by up to 50 per cent from December 3. <br /><br />The company had announced new plans in "unlimited"category with 2 days, 28 days, 84 days, 365 days validity which on the back of the envelope calculations showed higher price of up to 50 per cent <br /><br />Bharti Airtel increased its entry level unlimited plan with a year long validity by about 50 per cent to Rs 1,499, with 24 GB of data, in place of Rs 998 plan which comes with 12 GB data usage limit. <br /><br />The price of 365-days validity plan in the same category with daily data usage limit of 1.5 GB per day now costs 41.2 per cent more at Rs 2,398. <br /><br />The company also announced three new plans - Rs 219 with 28 days validity offering 1 GB per day, Rs 399 and Rs 449 plan with 56 days validity each, offering 1.5 Gb and 2 GB data usage, respectively. <br /><br />With the removal of limit, Airtel's new 399 plans with 56 days validity becomes cheaper than that of Reliance <keyword id="2003276" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jio">Jio</keyword> plan at same price. <br /><br />The move from both the companies follows Supreme Court judgement on adjusted gross revenue. <br /><br />Bharti Airtel has posted a staggering Rs 23,045 crore net loss for the second quarter ended September 30, due to provisioning of Rs 28,450 crore in the aftermath of the Supreme Court ruling on statutory dues. <br /><br />According to government data, the liabilities in the case of Bharti Airtel add up to nearly Rs 35,586 crore, of which Rs 21,682 crore is licence fee and another Rs 13,904.01 crore is the SUC dues (excluding the dues of Telenor and Tata Teleservices). <br /><br />The government is currently not considering any proposal on waiver of penalties and interest on outstanding licence fee based on adjusted gross revenue (AGR), or on extending the timelines for telecom companies to pay up their statutory dues. New Delhi, Dec 7 () Telecom operator Bharti Airtel has removed cap from free outgoing calls on other networks under its new plans for pre-paid customers that came into effect from December 3.
<p>The company had earlier capped outgoing calls to network of other telecom operator to 1,000 minutes in case of plans with 28 days validity, 3,000 in 84 days validity plans and 12,000 in 365 days validity plan. Beyond this limit, customers were required to pay 6 paisa per minute for outgoing calls.
</p><p>"From tomorrow, enjoy unlimited calling to any network in India with all our unlimited plans. No conditions apply," Bharti Airtel said in a tweet on Friday.
</p><p>The company on December 1 announced new plans under which call and data charges became dearer for its pre-paid customers by up to 50 per cent from December 3.
</p><p>The company had announced new plans in "unlimited"category with 2 days, 28 days, 84 days, 365 days validity which on the back of the envelope calculations showed higher price of up to 50 per cent
</p><p>Bharti Airtel increased its entry level unlimited plan with a year long validity by about 50 per cent to Rs 1,499, with 24 GB of data, in place of Rs 998 plan which comes with 12 GB data usage limit.
</p><p>The price of 365-days validity plan in the same category with daily data usage limit of 1.5 GB per day now costs 41.2 per cent more at Rs 2,398.
</p><p>The company also announced three new plans - Rs 219 with 28 days validity offering 1 GB per day, Rs 399 and Rs 449 plan with 56 days validity each, offering 1.5 Gb and 2 GB data usage, respectively.
</p><p>With the removal of limit, Airtel's new 399 plans with 56 days validity becomes cheaper than that of Reliance Jio plan at same price.
</p><p>The move from both the companies follows Supreme Court judgement on adjusted gross revenue.
</p><p>Bharti Airtel has posted a staggering Rs 23,045 crore net loss for the second quarter ended September 30, due to provisioning of Rs 28,450 crore in the aftermath of the Supreme Court ruling on statutory dues.
</p><p>According to government data, the liabilities in the case of Bharti Airtel add up to nearly Rs 35,586 crore, of which Rs 21,682 crore is licence fee and another Rs 13,904.01 crore is the SUC dues (excluding the dues of Telenor and Tata Teleservices).
</p>The government is currently not considering any proposal on waiver of penalties and interest on outstanding licence fee based on adjusted gross revenue (AGR), or on extending the timelines for telecom companies to pay up their statutory dues.  PRS  BAL

While Jio is gaining ground, it’s now taking longer than before to find new users.<br /><br />While the boost from the government’s <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/budget-2019-has-no-allocation-for-digital-india/articleshow/67793761.cms">Digital India</a> campaign certainly helped in taking India’s telecom revolution forward, the next phase of new users may not necessarily know how to navigate the treacherous waters. And both Jio and Facebook want to tap into this pie sooner than their peers.<br /><br /><strong>The rundown<br /></strong><br />Scheduled to take place every Saturday, the initiative will teach new users about how to use their JioPhone and all of its features. More than just navigating the internet, the program will reportedly also include online safety and how to use the many apps available on the phone — including Facebook.<br /><br />In its entirety, Digital Udaan includes a total of ten audio-visual training modules. Attendees will also be given information brochures to review in case of any doubts.<br /><br />After the initial launch of the program, Reliance Jio plans to expand the digital literacy program to more than 7,000 locations across the country, where ‘millions of JioPhone users’ reside, according to the company. <br />

<br /><ul><li>Mukesh Ambani announced that he plans to connect 1 billion devices using Jio’s IoT network that’s going to launch on 1 January, 2020.</li><li>For Reliance Jio, it will bring ₹20,000 crore revenue stream.</li><li>But the bulk of IoT will be driven by industrial applications rather than consumer devices like smart bulbs or air conditioners. </li></ul>Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, estimates that India will have at least 2 billion connected devices over the next two years. And, the company’s telecom arm — Reliance Jio — plans to power at least half of them to hone in on the ₹20,000 crore revenue opportunity. <br /><br />Jio’s IoT network will be a Narrowband Internet of Things (NBIoT) based on the company’s 4G network. The aim is to ensure that data gets from point A to point B in the most reliable way at the lowest possible cost once it launched on 1 January, 2020.<br /><br />Ambani cited the example of India’s 300 million electricity meters that needs to be connected digitally for real-time monitoring. “Having up to date data by the minute can help consumers have full visibility and control over the cost and quality,” according to Ambani during the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/highlights-of-mukesh-ambani-speech-at-reliance-industries-agm/articleshow/70638299.cms">Reliance Industries Annual General Meeting.</a><br /><br />Just as Jio will be <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/reliance-jio-fired-up-as-mukesh-ambani-joins-hands-with-satya-nadellas-microsoft-to-challenge-jeff-bezos-in-india/articleshow/70641754.cms">threatening Jeff Bezos’ Amazon Web Services (AWS)</a> as it partners with Microsoft to bring cloud computing to small and medium businesses, it will also challenging Amazon when it comes to IoT.<br /><br /><strong>It’s not about your light bulb at home</strong><br /><br />IoT is not all about smart bulbs or air conditioners. In reality, a lot of the communication that happens over IoT is between machines. <br /><br />In fact, 50% of IoT spending will be driven by enterprise capabilities like manufacturing, transportation, logistics and utilities rather than consumer facing applications, according to <a href="https://www2.deloitte.com/content/dam/Deloitte/in/Documents/manufacturing/in-mfg-harnessing-the-power-noexp.pdf">Deloitte</a>.<br /><br />The reason these sectors will primarily push growth is because of their direct association with smart city projects and the Indian governments $1 billion investment to set up a 100 smart cities in the country, according to the World Bank.<br /><br />In a smart city, typical IoT applications would help manage energy usage, monitor traffic, deliver better public services and even lower the level of pollution.<br /><br />From the current 60 million IoT devices currently functioning in the country, Deloitte estimates that 32 times more devices — 1.9 billion — will be online by 2020. As a result, the market will also expand from $1.3 billion to $9 billion. <br /><br />According to an IDC report, half of the businesses in India see IoT as a requirement for staying digitally fit and 60% believe it's essential to keeping a competitive advantage.<br /><br />While the potential of IoT is huge — it’s not without its challenges. Mukesh Ambani plans to connect a billion devices on his IoT platform — and he isn't only talking about light bulbs

New Delhi, Dec 10 () Reliance Industries' after-tax return on capital employed is likely to rise to 11 per cent in two years from the current 7-8 per cent as margins rise on the back of an increase in telecom tariffs, Morgan Stanley said on Tuesday.
<p> "RIL strong stock outperformance has once again led investors to ask about what is next," it said in a research report.
</p><p> Over the past decade, RIL's post-tax ROCE (return on capital employed) has been range-bound around 7-8 per cent. "We think this trend is set to be reversed as the telecom tariff increase should raise returns on USD 50 billion of investments (50 per cent of the last capital expenditure cycle)."
</p><p> Last week, top-three mobile operators Bharti Airtel, Jio and Vodafone Idea increased prepaid tariffs by 14-33 per cent.
</p><p> "We see ROCE rising to 11 per cent in two years as consumer portfolio returns inch closer to energy ROCE of around 14 per cent," it said adding although overall returns are still below levels since 2004, an uplift in the chemical cycle from current troughs should boost ROCE higher.
</p><p> Reliance Jio, the telecom arm of RIL, last week raised tariff by up to 39 per cent following hikes effected by other service providers. The hike will boost revenue over the next four quarters as the revamped plans will restrict down-trading-led revenue leakage.
</p><p> Edelweiss in a separate report said while the industry's average revenue per user (ARPU) has plunged 33 per cent over the past four years, voice usage per customer has jumped 84 per cent and data usage by 47-times providing enough value to customers to justify the tariff hike.
</p><p> "We expect industry ARPUs to improve over Q4FY20-Q3FY21 led by users optimising spends by advancing recharges as well as consolidating SIMs," it said. "Moreover, users are likely to delay recharges as well as down-trades, especially in the voice segment."
</p><p> However, the new tariff plans are still affordable and the hikes are expected to drive 35 per cent ARPU improvement in four quarters for Jio, it said. "With Reliance Jio plans being 20 per cent cheaper than rivals, we expect the company's robust subscriber addition pace to sustain. Hence, we revise up Jio's FY21 subscriber estimate 17 per cent to 471 million."
</p><p> Centrum said Jio has seen the highest increase in tariffs in the 56-84 days' validity plans which have risen by 33-35 per cent, while the lowest increase was seen in the 2GB/day plans for 28 days (12.2 per cent).
</p><p> "Given that there is some portion of subscribers who may down trade to lower priced plans and some subscribers may have taken longer prepaid plans in advance, we estimate an 8 per cent increment in ARPU for FY21 and a further 19 per cent in FY22E for Jio," it said. "Resultant, EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) for Jio sees an upgrade of 16/20 per cent from previous estimates."
</p><p> Jio plans, it said, remain the most attractive on the street. "Despite the material uptick in the tariff plans, Jio's plans across price points remain the cheapest on the street, with discount of 8-20 per cent vs Airtel/ Voda-Idea plans."
</p><p> "With the superior data speeds and network coverage for Jio, we believe its dominant position in terms of market share growth and data usage will sustain comfortably over the next 18-24 months post this change," it said.
</p><p> Morgan Stanley said RIL's chemical Ebitda will decline a 20 per cent quarter-on-quarter in October-December, leading to overall earnings to remain muted despite better refining margin.
</p> However, the trough is unlikely to be sustained as supply rationalisation and normalisation in inventory should help margins, it said.   ANZ HRS
