Jio has come up with special initiatives for the pandemic period including free 300 minutes of outgoing calls per month for the entire period of the pandemic, to <keyword id="4792220" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="JioPhone">JioPhone</keyword> users who have not been able to recharge due to the ongoing pandemic. "We at Jio want to ensure that staying connected remains accessible and affordable for all customers, especially the less-privileged sections of our society," said a company statement. "Jio working with <keyword id="10926" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance">Reliance</keyword> Foundation will provide 300 free minutes of outgoing calls per month (10 minutes per day) for the entire period of the pandemic, to JioPhone users who have not been able to recharge due to the ongoing pandemic," it said. Further, to further enhance affordability, for every JioPhone plan recharged by JioPhone user, they will get an additional recharge plan of the same value for free. Elaborating the offering, the statement said that a JioPhone user recharging with Rs 75 plan, will get an additional Rs 75 plan absolutely free. "Reliance is committed to standing with every Indian during these challenging times, and will continue to make every effort to enable our fellow citizens to overcome the difficulties created by the pandemic," it added. The statement, however, clarified that the offer is not applicable on annual or JioPhone device bundled plans. JioMeet video conferencing app is available across Android, iOS, Windows, macOS and web. Addressing the company's 43rd annual general meeting, Ambani said JioMeet has seen 5 million downloads by users within days of its launch. According to the company website, JioMeet supports HD audio and video call quality with up to 100 participants and offers features like screen sharing, and meeting schedule feature, among others. But unlike Zoom, it does not impose a 40-minute time limit. Calls can go on as long as 24 hours, and all meetings are encrypted and password-protected, the company said. JioMeet sees 5 million downloands within days of launch: Ambani

<ul><li>Reliance Jio today raises ₹25,215 crore from a Canadian asset management company, Brookfield’s subsidiary--BIF IV Jarvis India.</li><li>Proceeds from the investment by Brookfield will be used to repay certain existing financial liabilities of Reliance Jio (RJIPL) and acquiring the balance 49% of equity share capital of RJIPL, currently held by RIL.</li><li>These investments were made into investment trusts or INVITS floated by the Reliance Jio, into which it transferred its fibre optic and telecom tower assets in April this year.</li></ul> Reliance Jio has today raised as much as ₹25,215 crore from a Canadian asset management company, Brookfield’s subsidiary--BIF IV Jarvis India. These investments were made into the tower assets, which is a newly formed entity. This fund that the latest entrant into the telecom market has raised, will help it become a more independent company, releasing itself from the group that also houses retail and energy business. “Proceeds from the investment by Brookfield will be used to repay certain existing financial liabilities of Reliance Jio (RJIPL) and acquiring the balance 49% of equity share capital of RJIPL, currently held by RIL,” the company said in a statement today. The digital services arm of RIL has a debt of ₹170,654 crores, which is the most indebted business, much higher than its energy business, according to its first quarter results statement. These investments were made into investment trusts or INVITS floated by the Reliance Jio, into which it transferred its fibre optic and telecom tower assets in April this year. The latest investment has come into the tower assets of the company. Reliance Jio has managed to bag 322 million subscribers and has become the second largest telecom operator, within three years of its launch. In the months of May and April, it had added eight million subscribers and is growing at a rapid pace. However, Jio has also been gathering as much debt not just because of the deep discounts it offers, but also because of its grand plans of expansion across wireless and wireline businesses. It has plans to take it fibre optic business to 1,600 towns and cities, making it necessary to bring in new investors who can support it. Reliance Jio raises ₹ 25,215 crore from Canadian fund Brookfield to repay debt

Even as the last word on the pricing war in India's telecom space is yet to be heard, <keyword id="63460" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="JP-Morgan">JP Morgan</keyword> in an analysis says the 4G offering by the latest player <keyword id="6354504" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Reliance-Jio">Reliance Jio</keyword> is gaining traction and will see its subscriber base double by the end of this financial year. 
 "Over the last few months, as <keyword id="2003276" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jio">Jio</keyword>'s free offering has gathered subscribers, and more importantly, impacted data consumption on existing telcos' networks. There has been a pricing reaction from the incumbents for their existing telecom offering especially on data," the investment banker's latest report said. 
 
"The company's (Jio's) free scheme launched in September 2016 has been extended to March 2017. Jio has gathered around 52 million subscribers as of December-end, and the expectation is to hit 100 million subscribers by March 2017, after which the company would start billing commercially," it said. 
 Speaking about tariffs, the report said while Jio has released a tariff plan - given that subscribers are not being charged for it - there are some concerns on whether the tariff plans would be adjusted lower when the actual commercial operations are launched in April 2017. JP <keyword id="152186" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Morgan">Morgan</keyword> said Jio should seek to maximize average revenue per user, than pricing go for a per-GB data offer. 
 
"To that extent, the initial price scheme launched by Jio was a positive one as the effective pack started at Rs 499 per month, although there is a lower priced plan of Rs 149 per month." 
 
"However, given the way incumbents have cut tariff plans, it remains to be seen how Jio reacts from April, when commercial operations are launched and whether we see tweaks in the currently announced pricing plans or whether Jio sticks with the announced plan,"said the report. 
 
JP Morgan analysis also felt a lot would depend on how many of the existing Jio users migrate into "paying" subscribers and at what level of revenues pe user. 
 "Given the financial strength of <keyword id="6355199" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance-Industries">Reliance Industries</keyword> to back Jio, they could likely play the pricing game for longer. But given that most incumbents are comfortably based on financial metrics, any pricing strategy will likely be matched and thus the market share gains would be limited for RJio."
