As many as 1.5 lakh of these employees were hired by Reliance Retail, the retail arm of RIL. The company now claims that Reliance Retail is one of the biggest employers in India, with over 361,000 employees in total. “During the year, Reliance has also been able to generate significant employment opportunities for the people of our country and continues to remain amongst India’s largest private sector employers,” said RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani. “Over the past year, we added over 2.1 lakh new employees across our businesses with our consumer and technology business creating a large part of these new jobs,” he added. Reliance Industries Limited, on a consolidated basis, spent close to ₹18,775 crore or $2.4 billion on employee benefits expense between April 2021 and March 2022. Reliance adds over 2 lakh new jobs in India in FY22 – every 3 out of 4 new jobs are from retail alone

NEW DELHI: Mukesh Ambani-owned <keyword id="6354504" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Reliance-Jio">Reliance Jio</keyword> Infocomm is on a hiring spree, aiming to bring in as many as 500 telecom professionals on board in the next few months as it races towards launching its much-awaited services likely by September. 
 
"About 300 professionals will be hired for senior roles and the company has begun negotiating with circle heads of various telecom operators. It has so far hired close to seven circle heads," a person familiar with the matter told ET.

India is divided into 22 telecom circles, each comprising a city, state or, in a few cases, a group of provinces. Reliance Jio owns airwaves in all circles. 
 
Another person said the company had already hired Murali Kittu in a circle head role from the nation’s No. 1 carrier, Bharti Airtel, where he was chief operating officer for the Tamil Nadu service area. Reliance Jio had also recently brought on board Amitabh Jaipuria, former chief executive of AGS Transact Technologies, as the president of its fixed wireline business. 
 
"The company wants to roll out voice, data and provide fibre to home connectivity all at one time," the first person said. 
 
Reliance Jio didn’t respond to requests for comment. 
 
A third person told ET that Reliance Jio has ramped up hiring in the past three weeks after it was able to firm up an organisational structure. 
 "Unlike an <keyword id="6354924" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Idea-Cellular">Idea Cellular</keyword> which is very decentralised in decision-making, or an Airtel or a <keyword id="15492" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Vodafone">Vodafone</keyword> which have devolved certain powers to the circle heads and so on, Jio has decided to go in for a very centralised structure," the person said. This means, most decisions at Reliance Jio will be taken at the national headquarters in Mumbai while their execution will be left to the circles. 
 
Under the overall command of Manoj Modi, a confidant of Ambani, Reliance Jio is led by group President Sandip Das, who looks after the day-to-day operations with managing director Sanjay Mashruwala mainly managing network rollout. 
 
Other key men in leadership role include Kiran Thomas, assistant vice president, and Mathew Oommen, who is president of strategy, network and products. 
 Mahendra Nahata, head of Himachal Futuristic Communications whose Infotel Broadband Services was bought over by <keyword id="6355199" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Reliance-Industries">Reliance Industries</keyword> for its telecom foray in 2010 and renamed Reliance Jio, is also a key member of the leadership team. 
 
"While Manoj Modi looks at the business day in and day out, Mr. Ambani is also keenly involved, with progress reports and briefings coming to his desk at least once every week," a fourth person said. 
 
The company is planning to hire two sets of leaders for certain senior roles: one an Indian with specific domain knowledge and the other an expat who could advice on knowledge transfer and global best practices. 
 
According to sources, the company is considering expats for roles in technology and customer service areas, and wants to stick to Indian talent for positions in operations, sales and marketing as well as supply chain. 
 
Reliance Jio acquired pan-India airwaves in 2010 to provide high-speed Internet services, paying Rs 13,000 crore for 20 MHz in the 2300 MHz band. It had been unable to launch commercial services because of technology limitation of the frequency.

In February this year, it won airwaves in the 1800 MHz band — which is ideal for offering voice services — across 14 circles for about Rs 11,000 crore. This allows the company to offer high-speed data services on the 2300 MHz band, and fall back on the 1800 MHz for voice offerings. The 1800 MHz band can be used for data services as well. 
 Reliance Jio has been stitching up agreements with rivals Bharti Airtel and <keyword id="6368075" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="RCom">RCOM</keyword> for leasing telecom towers and using the latter’s inter and intracity fiber network, in a bid to speed up the launch of its services.

Reliance Jio To Hire 500 Professionals; Plans To Launch Services By September

Amid growing competition between telecom operators to be number 1 in 4G devices and services, job aspirants are at the gaining end. 
 With telecos like <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword>, Idea, <keyword id="1543410" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance-Jio-Infocomm">Reliance Jio Infocomm</keyword> rolling out <keyword id="6493730" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="4G-services">4G services</keyword>, this has led to spurt in jobs, which was not the scenario in 2012 when many telecom licences were cancelled. 
 
Headhunters say recruitments in the telecom sector have started and companies are expected to hire 20,000-30,000 in the next 4-6 months. 
 
"What Jio is trying to do is build an entire ecosystem and revolutionalise the way things worked till now. To this end, it has hired a lot of people across different sectors. Other companies are following suit," a top headhunter who refused to be named told ET. 
 
Apart from fresh hiring, even poaching is becoming common as Reliance Jio is hiring people from various organisations for top posts. 
 
Reportedly, Reliance Jio’s head count increased from 700 employees in 2012 to 17,500 by March 2015. 
 Even <keyword id="6354924" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Idea-Cellular">Idea Cellular</keyword> hired over 2,000 people in 2015. 
 
"Focus on rural penetration, Jio's launch and hiring within sector have forced telecom firms to create benches and that means more recruitments," Santrupt Misra, director group HR at the Aditya Birla Group, told ET, adding by next year at least 2,500 employees will be added.

KOLKATA/MUMBAI: Where is the country’s top engineering talent heading to in a year of subdued hiring? <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword>, <keyword id="6355199" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Reliance-Industries">Reliance Industries</keyword> (RIL), <keyword id="43340" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Oracle">Oracle</keyword> and <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> topped the hiring charts for the class of 2014, according to data from the top <keyword id="49737" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="IITs">IITs</keyword> at the end of the first phase of this placement season. 
 With 271 offers, almost a 100 more than the second-largest <keyword id="41007" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="recruiter">recruiter</keyword>, Samsung is the clear winner so far. This number includes 69 pre-placement offers (PPOs) and 28 postings in <keyword id="43918" type="COUNTRY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Korea">Korea</keyword>. 
 
The South Korean conglomerate has ramped up hiring numbers by as much as 71% from 158 last year, emerging as the biggest recruiter at the IITs so far. It had made 23 international offers last year. 
 
“We focused on campus hiring for multiple reasons — strengthening our core competency in embedded computing and building new skills/capabilities in UX design, enterprise software and data analysis,” said a Samsung spokesperson in a written response to ET. Out of 243 candidates selected for India, 211 are <keyword id="821920" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="from-software">from software</keyword> engineering and 19 from UX design. 
 RIL, another regular recruiter, made 177 offers, lower than last year’s 202. Students have been taken on in the roles of graduate <keyword id="6369183" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Engineer">engineer</keyword> trainees (GETs). 
 
“Other than some 45 PPOs, RIL has hired 132 students from 8 IITs – Delhi, Bombay, Roorkee, Kharagpur, Guwahati, Madras, Kanpur and IITBHU. In addition to this, Reliance Jio hired 5 GETs, one from IIT-Hyderabad and 4 from IIT-Indore,” said a Reliance Industries spokesperson in a written response. 
 
These numbers reflect hiring at the end of the first phase of the placement season in which roughly 50-60% of the batches have been placed across IITs. The second phase will start in the first week of January and will cover the remaining students. 
 
Tech major Oracle was another big recruiter, taking on close to 135 students across almost all IITs. While its overall campus hiring numbers remained fairly consistent over the last three years, it made a few US-based offers for the first time this year. 
 
“Oracle has a number of different business groups internally and we hire students across a variety of positions. 
 Many students will join Oracle, working in product development roles across our hardware, software or industry-specific based groups,” said a <keyword id="154054" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="company-spokesperson">company spokesperson</keyword>. 
 E-commerce major Flipkart, as reported earlier by ET, has been a big draw at the IITs during the first phase of placements. The company increased hiring from around 100 last year to 118. “Campus hiring is strategic for us. It helps us identify and bring new talent,” <keyword id="225032" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sachin-Bansal">Sachin Bansal</keyword>, co-founder, Flipkart, told ET. 
 
“Past experience has shown us that talent from tier-I colleges like the IITs and IIMs and the way they meet the challenges posed by a high-growth environment like ours has been remarkable -- and a great fit for an organisation like Flipkart that stresses on ownership and innovation,” added Bansal. 
 
Several other companies emerged as strong recruiters, according to hiring data from six of the older IITs at Bombay, Kharagpur, Madras, Roorkee, Kanpur and Guwahati. 
 Business process outsourcing company <keyword id="369930" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="EXL-Service">EXL Service</keyword>, for instance, made 97 offers across 7 IITs this year compared to just 46 across 5 IITs last placements. The increase in the number of campus hires in the roles of consultants and analysts is to power the company’s analytics business, which has been growing at more than 30% for the last few years.

Goldman Sachs, Reliance, Samsung and others onboarding interns virtually during the lockdown

New Delhi, India's largest gas firm GAIL is imitating billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Ltd in planning to import ethane from the US to replace natural gas and naphtha as feedstock at its petrochemical plants. "In a bid towards diversification of the feedstock, GAIL is looking to import ethane from ethane-surplus countries with matured export terminal infrastructure through water borne transportation to India and transport it further through GAIL's pipeline systems to demand centres," the company said in a tender document. It sought quotes to hire a very large ethane carrier (VLEC) for 20 years starting mid-2026 for importing ethane from the US. The ship with capacity of 80,000 to 99,000 cubic metres is targeted to take deliveries from US ports of Marcus Hook, Nederland, Morgan's Point or Beaumont and deliver ethane at Dahej or Hazira in Gujarat or Dabhol in Maharashtra. GAIL has a petrochemical plant at Pata, near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, and is also looking to set up another unit at Usar in Maharashtra. The company had to cut down on run rate at Pata after the government diverted gas supplies from the plant to city gas suppliers. This led to its profitability being impacted and so now the company is looking to supplement the feedstock with ethane. Reliance had in 2014 announced ethane plans in 2014 and started importing the feedstock from the US in 2017. It is importing 1.6 million tonnes per annum of ethane and is using six VLECs for transporting it to India. With ethane replacing propane and naphtha used in ethylene production, Reliance is estimated to have saved about USD 450 million annually. Reliance used 2.5 million tonnes a year of naphtha as feedstock in petrochemical crackers and ethane reduced its use by 5,00,000 tonnes, which now could be exported. Ethane is expected to be produced in large volumes in North America due to the shale gas revolution, which has generated an abundance of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). It is primarily used as petrochemical feedstock to produce ethylene by steam cracking. Ethylene is the starting material for making a wide range of products -- from packaging films, wire coatings, and squeeze bottles as well as plastics and synthetic rubber. Reliance uses ethane at its crackers in Dahej and Hazira in Gujarat and Nagothane in Maharashtra. GAIL in the tender said it is looking at co-transportation of ethane and LNG through the same vessel loaded in separate compartments. "Bidders may indicate whether the vessel offered for time-charter is compatible for part loading of ethane and LNG. In case of co-transportation the primary and secondary fuel options may necessarily be indicated," GAIL said. GAIL said the 20 year charter hire agreement can be extended by a further 5 years. Last date for submission of an expression of interest (EoI) for offering VLECs is February 25.

GAIL takes the 'Reliance route' with its US ethane plans

After 2G and 3G, the people of India (at least in the metros) are waiting for 4G services to begin. We had reported that <keyword id="6354504" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance-Jio">Reliance JIO</keyword> will bring the 4G services in early 2015. The date has been set and in March next year we will see Reliance JIO rolling out the fast speed mobile internet in India. 
 According to an ET report, the company is also looking to hire a man power of 3,000 people at state level, to manage and expand the retail and distribution 4G Business. They already have two ex-Google honchos, <keyword id="1817168" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Neeraj-Bansal">Neeraj Bansal</keyword> and <keyword id="1262497" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nikhil-Rungta">Nikhil Rungta</keyword> for this initiative. 
 Reliance has already spent a huge sum on the Indian 4G-LTE setup. Rs 70,000 crores have been disbursed on it, which includes a sum of Rs 24,000 crores on airwaves. Reliance has revolutionised the mobile and telecom industry in the past with cheap offerings and now they are trying to take it to the next level. They have operating license in all 22 circles (2,300 Mhz) in India that gives them the edge over any other service provider like <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword> or <keyword id="15492" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vodafone">Vodafone</keyword> in the country. 
 With the launch these services, price of 3G facilities are expected to come down by a lot and people can opt for 4G packages at the current price of 3G (or slightly higher). The consumers will be able to watch HD videos, play multi-player games and more with ease on mobiles or tablets. Word from other Indian telecom service providers is yet to come. Nokia has also opened a 5G Industrial Incubation Lab in South Australia and posted a '<keyword id="14742573" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="graduate-engineer-in-technology" source="Orion">Graduate Engineer in Technology</keyword>' role. "It's not only 5G investments that companies are looking at as they have also shown an interest in 6G investments and related roles," said Sriprada. Reliance Jio, Voda step up hiring as 5G related job postings up 65%

<a href="http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2014/02/18/snapchat-poaches-google-veteran-in-engineering-push/" target="_blank">The Wall Street Journal's Doug MacMillan reports</a> that the company recently hired <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=496669&amp;locale=en_US&amp;trk=tyah2&amp;trkInfo=tas%3Apeter%20magn%2Cidx%3A1-1-1" target="_blank">Robert Magnusson</a>, a Google engineering director responsible for Google App Engine, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/snapchat-is-built-on-googles-cloud-2014-1" target="_blank">the cloud platform that Snapchat itself is built on.</a>
This won't be the only major engineering hire we hear about from Snapchat in the coming months. The company currently has just 15 engineers on staff, but plans to add as many as 50 this year, co-founder Bobby Murphy told the WSJ.
In his piece, MacMillan wrote that Magnusson will be "building technology infrastructure in-house so that the company can begin to lessen its reliance on partners like Google." Apparently, that wasn't quite right, as Magnusson quickly wrote up a <a href="https://plus.google.com/u/0/110401818717224273095/posts/7p9j255yd2r" target="_blank">clarification on his Google+ page</a> (emphasis ours):
Ok for the record, the quote "Part of his new job at Snapchat will be building technology infrastructure in-house so that the company can begin to lessen its reliance on partners like Google, Murphy said." is (a) not what Bobby said, (b) not really a focus of my job either. Thx WSJ for pissing off all my old Google friends. A more correct statement is that we'll continuously evaluate alternatives, and likely over time develop more infrastructure ourselves, in particular in specialized areas of our apps. Google is a great partner, and the success of Snapchat would simply not have been possible without Google Cloud, and we expect to work closely together. Period.
Magnusson served as head of the Google App Engine team since 2010.
According to the <a href="http://petersmagnusson.org/about/" target="_blank">About page on his blog</a>, he was inspired to join Google's cloud efforts back in 2009 while writing <a href="http://petersmagnusson.org/2009/05/28/the-fourth-wave/" target="_blank">this blog post about the ill-fated Google Wave</a>, which promised to offer online collaboration that leveraged Google's massive infrastructure as a platform for end-user software.

The discussions for the project have reportedly been delayed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. “This is going to be a defining partnership, and it’s not just a financial investment. However, a source told Economic Times that the situation is ‘fluid’ and it is unclear what the final structure would look like. “A new company could be created – where both the players could invest; or Facebook could invest in Reliance Jio and Reliance Retail, and that is the way the partnership could be formed for the new venture,” the source said. The two companies have reportedly hired top consultants and lawyers in the US to explore various aspects of the deal, including legal and taxation matters. <ul><li>Reliance Jio is reportedly reducing its contractual and permanent staff. </li><li>The telecom major has asked nearly 5,000 employees to leave the company — including over 500 from the permanent staff. </li><li>The lay off is due to the falling operational margins of the company, according to an ET report. </li><li>In the telecom industry, the employee cost ranges from 5%-6% of the total operational cost.</li></ul>While the Mukesh Ambani-led Telecom giant Reliance Jio has been growing its customer base aggressively, the company has reportedly trimmed<a href="https://in.reuters.com/article/media-indias-reliance-jio-lets-go-of-con/media-indias-reliance-jio-lets-go-of-contractual-staff-economic-times-idINL4N2350QF"> its contractual staff</a> significantly. Owing to the falling operational margins, the homegrown giant has also r<a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/telecom/telecom-news/reliance-jio-lets-go-of-contractual-staff/articleshow/69551393.cms">educed the headcount</a> for permanent employees. The telecom major has reportedly rolled out leave orders for nearly 5,000 employees — including over 500 permanent ones. Commenting on the move, the company reportedly said that Jio continues to be a net recruiter and there was no question of any "cost pressure-led action." Jio’s operational margin projected a decline in the January to March quarter while the expenses increased further by 8%, thereby affecting the workforce largely. Jio has an employee base of over 15,000 under its payroll. However, a large part of the workforce includes third-party workers, which are on the payroll of staffing firms. "We are expanding our consumer businesses and Jio continues to be a net recruiter in the industry. We also work with contractors who may be hiring staff on fixed time contracts for our various project construction activities. Given that we continue to recruit actively, the question of a cost pressure-led action is not relevant,” ET reported citing company officials. For the telecom industry, the employee cost usually <a href="https://www.timesnownews.com/business-economy/companies/article/reliance-jio-lays-off-nearly-4500-contractual-staff-in-cost-cutting-drive-report/427413">ranges from 5%-6%</a>, which has been the first target for the company bringing a cost-cutting functionality in place. While the move has impacted the consumer acquisition vertical the most, the redundancy has affected the company staff across verticals — HR, finance, networking and administration. India’s telecom giant Reliance Jio cuts contractual staff

Its good news for <keyword id="35450" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="insurance">insurance</keyword> agents! One of the largest insurance players, Reliance Life Insurance Company (<keyword id="361239" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="RLIC">RLIC</keyword>) plans to hire an additional 20,000 agents across India in this fiscal year as part of its expansion plans. 
	 "We are the agency company. We strongly believe that agents are our backbone and we invest in them. We have planned to increase our agency force by 20 per cent, which now stands at one lakh agents. Thus, we will be adding another 20,000 agents in this financial year," RLIC's Chief Agency Officer <keyword id="2891044" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Manoranjan-Sahoo">Manoranjan Sahoo</keyword> said in an ET report. 
	 
	Sahoo made the announcement at the sidelines of the launch of RLIC's new child plan, called as 'Reliance Education Plan'. He also added that Gujarat generates nearly 10% of their insurance business. 
	 
	"Gujarat has been our favourite state in terms of business. 10 per cent of our business comes from here. We are having a strong agency presence here. We are having 56 branches having more than 8,500 agents working with us" he added.
