"The establishment of RGCC aims to harness the in-house expertise of these seasoned leaders to support the Group's forward-looking growth initiatives and cultivate a new generation of leadership for future project," the statement said. The <keyword id="6355809" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NCLT" source="Orion">NCLT</keyword> has granted <keyword id="375475" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Future-Retail" source="Orion">Future Retail</keyword> Ltd (FRL) an extension of 90 days for concluding the <keyword id="5961445" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Corporate-Insolvency-Resolution-Process" source="Orion">Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process</keyword> (CIRP) of the company. Allowing FRL's plea the Mumbai bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has extended the deadline to July 15, 2023, for concluding the CIRP of FRL. "... NCLT on April 13, 2023, heard the application and granted the said exclusion of 90 days from CIRP of FRL and consequent extension for completion of CIRP till July 15, 2023," said a regulatory filing from the company. This order was pronounced orally by NCLT on April 13, 2023, and a "written order is awaited", FRL added. The CIRP was initiated against FRL by NCLT on July 20, 2022, following loan default. The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) time frame for resolution is 330 days, inclusive of the time taken for litigation. As per Section 12(1) of the Code, the CIRP shall be completed within a period of 180 days from the date of initiation. However, NCLT may grant a one-time extension of 90 days. The maximum time within which CIRP must be mandatorily completed, including any extension or litigation period, is 330 days. Last week, FRL informed that they have received an Expression of Interest (EoI) from 49 players, including <keyword id="10926" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance" source="Orion">Reliance</keyword> Retail, Jindal Power Ltd and <keyword id="6367820" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adani-Group" source="Orion">Adani Group</keyword> for acquiring the assets of FRL. On March 23, 2023, the resolution professional (RP) of FRL invited new expressions of interest, where prospective buyers can bid for the debt-ridden firm "as a going concern or individual cluster or a combination of clusters of its assets", as it failed to attract a resolution plan in over four months. Earlier, it had received EoI and finalised 11 prospective bidders, including Reliance and April Moon Retail, but could not get a resolution plan despite two extensions in the deadline for submissions. The Committee of Creditors had provided two options in the EoI, for which the last date for submission was April 7, 2023. In the first option, the Prospective Resolution Applicant (PRA) could bid for the acquisition of Future Retail as a whole, including its shareholding interest in its subsidiaries. While under the second option, Future Retail's business has been distributed in five clusters diving business, in which PRAs can bid for "any individual cluster or any combination of clusters." As per the invitation, FRL currently has access to 302 leased retail stores spread across 23 states and Union Territories, consisting of 30 large format stores such as <keyword id="6357823" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Big-Bazaar" source="Orion">Big Bazaar</keyword> and <keyword id="17144190" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="FBB-stores" source="Orion">FBB stores</keyword> and 272 small format stores. NCLT grants 90 days extension to Future Retail for concluding insolvency

The resolution professional of the company has provisionally admitted claims of Rs 2,117.03 crore and claims worth Rs 38.5 crore are "under verification", said the latest data shared by Future Lifestyle Fashions Ltd (<keyword id="1567510" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="flfl" source="Orion">FLFL</keyword>) on the exchanges. As per the provision of the Insolvency &amp; Bankruptcy Code, a Committee of Creditors (CoC) of FLFL has been formed and it will have its first meeting next week. "We wish to inform you that the first meeting of CoC of Future Lifestyle Fashions Limited (under CIRP) will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2023," it said. On May 4, the Mumbai bench of the National Company Law Tribunal(NCLT) had directed to initiate CIRP against FLFL, admitting a petition from Bank of India. This is the third company of the <keyword id="6361562" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kishore" source="Orion">Kishore</keyword> Biyani-led Future Group to be dragged into CIRP by its creditors for defaulting on loans. Its flagship firm <keyword id="1636009" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="future-retail-ltd" source="Orion">Future Retail Ltd</keyword> and logistics and infra arm Future Enterprises are already facing insolvency proceedings. FLFL was considering asset monetisation to pare its debts, however, it did not materialise. It had entered into a One Time Restructuring (OTR) Plan with lenders also. The company has in-house retail chains Central and Brand Factory, exclusive brand outlets (EBOs) and other multi-brand outlets (MBOs) of nearly a dozen apparel labels, including Lee Copper, Champion, aLL, Indigo Nation, Giovani, John Miller, Scullers, Converse and Urbana in its portfolio. According to the regulatory filing, State Bank of India leads the CoC of FLFL with 22.51 per cent voting share. It had an admitted loan of Rs 476.59 crore. It is followed by Centbank Financial Services Ltd, a debenture trustee, having 21.01 per cent voting share with admitted claims of Rs 444.76 crore. The petitioner Bank of India has a 19.71 per cent voting share with admitted claims of Rs 417.33 crore and Bank of Baroda has a 14.02 per cent voting share with an admission of Rs 296.79 crore of claims. FLFL was part of the 19 group companies operating in retail, wholesale, logistics and warehousing segments, which were supposed to be transferred to <keyword id="58448" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="reliance-retail" source="Orion">Reliance Retail</keyword> as part of a Rs 24,713-crore deal announced in August 2020. The ecommerce giant has reportedly accused Future Retail of diverting $1.5 billion from its account to other companies. As per a report by Bloomberg, Amazon has alleged that Future Retail transferred 70 billion Indian rupees, which is close to $939 million at current conversion rate, in the financial year March 2020 as a capital advance to a company controlled by the founder Kishore Biyani. This was a payment for the goods and services purchased by the related firm. Future Retail said that the transactions were a part of public disclosures made by the company as a part of standard governance practices. There is nothing new that is being brought to notice here, “except for false speculations being created out of selective excerpts,” the company’s representative told Bloomberg. The ecommerce giant has written, as per the report, to Indian finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Shaktikanta Das, market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and several other authorities, seeking an investigation into Future Retail. Amazon has also alleged, as per the Bloomberg report, that Future Retail created an unusual rental security deposit and made advances worth 43 billion ($575 million, at current conversion rate) Indian rupees to suppliers in the same year even though its business had slumped and it was shutting down stores. “Significant amounts may have been diverted from Future Retail…,” Amazon reportedly said, adding that a part of these transactions can help Future Retail immediately repay the outstanding debt owed to banks and creditors. The legal battle between Amazon and Future Retail dates back to August 2020, after Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Retail agreed to buy Future Group’s retail, wholesale and warehousing assets for ₹24,713 crore. Amazon — which held about 3% stake in Future Retail through its 49% shareholding in Future Coupon — objected to the deal, saying that it had barred Future Group from getting into any retail agreement with 11 companies, including Reliance. It achieved this feat by improving elements like structure and plot twists. These benefits were most pronounced for writers initially deemed the least creative, suggesting that AI helps level the playing field by boosting their creative output. But on a collective level, AI-assisted stories tended to resemble each other more closely than those created without AI. This was largely down to writers ‘anchoring’ their narratives too heavily to the AI-suggested ideas. In essence, these findings indicate that while AI may help improve individual creativity, its use risks diminishing collective novelty. According to study authors, this creates a social dilemma: <keyword id="22428188" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="AI-use" source="keywords">AI use</keyword> breaks down entry barriers and allows more people to participate, which is a huge positive. But on the flip side, it decreases the collective novelty of art, narrowing the scope of diverse creative content being produced—a big no-no. This also means that early adoption of as well as over-reliance on AI tools could hinder the development of fundamental skills in writing, music and other creative fields, similar to how early use of calculators might impede learning basic arithmetic. The All India Garment Manufacturers &amp; Vendors Association (AIGMVA) has demanded that <keyword id="44949" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="future-group" source="Orion">Future Group</keyword> owner <keyword id="44950" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="kishore-biyani" source="Orion">Kishore Biyani</keyword> should pay up their dues of over Rs 200 crore pending since 2019, here on Wednesday. The AIGMVA, comprising around 350 members from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala, has warned <keyword id="49454" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="biyani" source="Orion">Biyani</keyword> of legal action if he fails to clear their dues. In a statement, the AIGMVA advisor and Trade Union Joint Action Committee (TUJAC) Convenor Vishwas <keyword id="313080" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="utagi" source="Orion">Utagi</keyword> said that the producers and suppliers had supplied the garments as ordered by Biyani's group of companies between 2019-2022. "Each manufacturer-vendor has dues of between Rs 70 crore to over Rs One crore and the total amount plus interest would be around Rs 500 crore. We want the union government and all the concerned state governments also to intervene and get the huge amount cleared immediately," Utagi demanded. A garment producer from Thane said that a majority of them had availed bank loans to fulfil the Future Group's orders then but since Biyani did not pay up their bills, now the banks are hounding the manufacturers and suppliers for default and refusing to give more loans. "Due to this, over 100,000 are directly hit and along with their families and other stakeholders, more than five lakh people are on the verge of joblessness and starvation due to Future Group, explained Utagi. He said that the Future Group was last year sold to the Reliance Group and in this deal, the poor vendors comprising the backbone MSME sector of the Indian economy have been left in the lurch. A vendor from Gujarat said that their profit margins are very thin, they have no cash surplus and they survive on a cash-credit facility with regular payments to their suppliers, employees, establishment costs, EMIs, etc. "Owing to Future Group, our 100 per cent working capital is blocked, totally paralysing our operations, and now banks are hounding us with notices of loan defaults, some members have sold off family gold, saving or even their shops or homes to clear their dues and are now practically homeless," he said. The AIGMVA and TUJAC also plan to file cases against the Future Group in different states, write to Members of Parliament and Members of Legislatures to highlight their plight and urge the government's intervention to compel Biyani to pay up the entire dues and end the matter.
