Kelley's eight-episode adaptation of <a href="https://www.insider.com/nine-perfect-strangers-show-book-differences-changes-2021-8">Liane Moriarty's 2018 novel</a>, the costars play two young lottery winners whose reality proves to be incongruous with the rags-to-riches fairy tale they imagined. </p><p>Ben is a former catering truck driver that lacks purpose after gaining the $22 million fortune overnight, and Jessica is an aspiring influencer with body dysmorphia and an all-consuming preoccupation with strangers' perceptions of her.</p><p>In an effort to save their marriage, they check into a high-end wellness retreat called Tranquillum House for couples therapy.</p><p>Before production on "Nine Perfect Strangers" commenced in Byron Bay in early 2020, the costars met up for lunch several times to get to know each other and to dig into their characters' backstories.</p><p>They joined the rest of the cast to film the large group scenes first, so Gregg said he and Weaving got comfortable playing off of each other before moving onto scenes focusing on their characters' relationship.</p><p>"I kind of built Ben around who Jessica was, so it definitely helped to see her take on Jessica," he said, adding, "We had a chance to get to know one another throughout the process before shooting a lot of couple stuff."</p><div type="image" title="melvin gregg samara weaving" height="4480" width="6720" msid="86054116" hostid="261"></div><p>But because Weaving was heavily made up from the first day on set, where the actors spent the majority of their time, Gregg quickly grew used to seeing his on-screen counterpart as Jessica - fake teeth, nails, tan, and all. </p><p>"Once we started filming, I would see her every day as Jessica and everybody would clean up before whatever, whether it be lunch or game night. When Weaving walked on to the set the first time as Jessica, some of them had no idea who she was.</p><p>"No one recognized me. My phone wouldn't open when it saw my face," Weaving told <a href="https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/a37300385/the-babysitter-samara-weaving-nine-perfect-strangers-transformation/">Digital Spy</a>. "Regina [Hall] didn't recognize me at all. She was like, 'Who's that?'"</p><p>Dressing up as Jessica turned out to be an experiment of sorts for Weaving, who detected a difference in the way people acted towards her when she was in costume versus out of costume. </p><p>"Everyone's reaction and their behavior shifted based on how I looked, even though they knew I wasn't Jessica," she said. "That definitely helped me because it was so interesting seeing how other people perceived her and using that, you feel on display."</p><p>The actress continued, "And just imagining that's how everyone would behave was really fascinating and made me think: 'Do we judge people based on their looks a lot more than I thought?'"</p><p>"Nine Perfect Strangers" is available to stream on Hulu, with new episodes released weekly. </p>

Lisa plays mama bear to a group of scantily clad waitresses as they spend their days working for tips and trying not to be sexually harassed.</p><p>And that's hardly the only challenge Lisa goes through. Set over a single day, the movie follows our hero as she has to deal with an attempted robbery at the restaurant, a good-intentions-gone-bad car wash to try to help out one of her employees, and her husband moving out on her. However, through it all, Lisa keeps a positive attitude and genuine love for the girls who work under her.</p><p>"Support the Girls" is a very different movie than Bujalski's last, the black-and-white shot and geek-boy-centered "Computer Chess" (Bujalski is also known for his second feature, "Mutual Appreciation," a landmark movie in the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mumblecore" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mumblecore genre</a>). "Support the Girls" has a mainstream comedy feel, but is more realistic and genuine than most studio attempts.</p><p>Hall is the lifeblood of the movie, as she's in basically every scene, but the other standout is Haley Lu Richardson ("The Edge of Seventeen," "Split"), who plays the bubbly waitress Maci. Proving the female comedy is still alive and well, the raunchy, R-rated romp took in $30.4 million.</p><p>Luc Besson's passion project, "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets," completely bombed with only a $17 million opening. <p>"<keyword id="1941763" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="The-Best-Man-Holiday">The Best Man Holiday</keyword>" surprised everyone making a <a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=bestman2.htm" target="_blank">huge $30 million opening weekend</a>. Friday, it actually<a href="http://www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2013/11/16/friday-box-office-analysis-the-best-man-holiday-steals-thors-thunder/" target="_blank"> made more money than the "Thor" sequel</a>.</p>
<p>The romantic comedy following a group of friends reuniting after a number of years has a lot of star power from Taye Diggs ("Private Practice"), Regina Hall, Morris Chestnut, and Terrence Howard, but was predicted to make <a href="http://www.movieweb.com/news/box-office-predictions-can-thor-the-dark-world-hold-back-the-best-man-holiday" target="_blank">$20 million</a> at the most upon debut.</p>
<p>The Malcolm D. Lee directed film cost an <a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=bestman2.htm" target="_blank">estimated $17 million to produce</a>.</p>
<p>One factor that could have played into the film performing better than expected is that the movie is a sequel. 14 years after the original, "<a href="http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=bestman.htm" target="_blank">The Best Man</a>," m<span>any of the stars including Diggs, Howard, Chestnut, all reprise the roles that helped launch many of their careers. </span></p>

The media attention of the story<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> could have helped boost interest in the film.</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">It goes without saying that "Thor 2" vs. "The Best Man Holiday" was the unlikeliest of box-office showdowns. Originally, Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street" was expected to release this weekend. That film has been <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/wolf-of-wall-street-pushed-back-to-december-release-2013-10" target="_blank">pushed back now until December 25</a>.</span></p>
