While Sensex inched up over 690 points to close at 79,476.63 points, Nifty closed the day over the 24k mark, at 24,213.30, up by 217 points. During the day, Sensex had soared 740.89 points, or 0.94%, to touch 79,523.13 points. From the 30-share Sensex pack, JSW Steel surged nearly 5% while Tata Steel jumped nearly 4%. Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and UltraTech Cement were also among the big gainers. On the other hand, Tech Mahindra, Lupin, Britannia, and Infosys were among the major laggards on Sensex. On Nifty, where 39 stocks advanced during the day and the remaining 11 saw declines, Tata Steel, Hindalco, and JSW Steel were among the top gainers. Adani Ports, ITC, Bharti Airtel, and Asian Paints were among the leading laggards. In Asian markets, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong settled in the positive territory, while Seoul ended lower. Yesterday, the BSE benchmark tumbled 941.88 points, or 1.18%, to settle at 78,782.24, the lowest closing level since August 6. The Nifty had also tanked 309 points, or 1.27%, to close at 23,995.35. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued with their hefty exodus, offloading equities worth Rs 4,329.79 crore today, according to exchange data. So far in November, DIIs (domestic institutional investors) have put in Rs 2,558.75 crore in Indian markets. Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.60% to $75.53 a barrel today. <h2>Banks, metals lead the party</h2> Aditya Gaggar, Director of Progressive Shares, explains that while bears dominated the first half of trading session by dragging the index lower; it was the banking counters that led to a sharp up move and pushed the index higher from its previous session's low. The Metal stocks also joined the party and pushed the index further higher to end the session at 24,213.30 with gains of 217.95 points. Mid and smallcaps also advanced but underperformed the frontline index", he added. Today's rally was largely led by banking scrips. The BSE Bankex jumped a staggering 1,218.58 points during the day. On NSE, both banks and financial services indices inched up by 1.94% and 1.98% respectively during the day. While PSU bank counters were up by 1.84%, private banks surged ahead with a 1.94% growth during the day. Metals were amidst the highest gainers, rising 2.84% during the day. All broad market indices closed the day in green, except for India VIX, which tumbled 4.08%.

A Polish charter flight is also set to arrive in the coastal state on November 8. The statement added that this international interest extends beyond Goa’s iconic beaches, with tourists increasingly exploring areas like Dudhsagar Falls and scenic hinterlands. To further boost connectivity, Goa is collaborating with airlines and seeking government support to improve flight routes, creating a more globally connected tourism landscape. "However, establishing robust direct international connectivity requires further support from the Government of India, which we are actively seeking to make Goa an even more attractive, accessible, and globally connected destination," a spokesperson said. He added that after pandemic disruptions, Goa’s international tourism is rebounding, with over 450,000 foreign arrivals recorded in 2023. Alongside domestic visitors, totaling over 8 million this year, the state’s tourism sector is also thriving. Addressing challenges like limited direct flights, Goa’s tourism officials are working to secure new airline agreements, ensuring an easier journey for international visitors. RBI's MPC (Monetary Policy Committe) meeting will start today, with a decision related to interest rate hike or cut to be announced on August 8, 2024. The repo rate was last increased to 6.5% in February, 2023. Experts are not anticipating any rate changes in the upcoming session. Parijat Agrawal, Head – Fixed Income at Union Mutual Fund explains that the inflationary pressures have cooled off and monsoon worries have subsided. So far, one person has died, and 10 others have been hospitalized in connection with the outbreak, which impacted 49 people across 10 states, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday. McDonald's said it believes the outbreak may be linked to the slivered onions used on its Quarter Pounder. The fast-food chain said it is temporarily taking the burger off the menu in several states. In 2017, Chipotle <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://ir.chipotle.com/news-releases?item=122384">announced</a> its founder, Steve Ells, would be stepping down as CEO in favor of someone with "demonstrated turnaround expertise." In 2018, Brian Niccol, currently the CEO of Starbucks, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://ir.chipotle.com/news-releases?item=122376">took over</a> as the CEO of Chipotle after a successful stint at the helm of Taco Bell. Niccol told <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/23/business/chipotle-stock-earnings.html">The New York Times</a> in 2019 that Chipotle had become "an industry leader" in food safety, adding: "We're doing some really progressive things on the food safety front, and we're going to have to, because we're going to stay committed to using real ingredients." Chipotle's recovery may also have hinged on expanding the business in areas unrelated to food safety. "They are exceptional in how well the brand has capitalized on digital ordering," Sara Senatore, a Bernstein analyst who followed Chipotle, told <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/23/business/chipotle-stock-earnings.html">the Times</a> in 2019. Wendy's dealt with a similar situation. Between July and August 2022, Wendy's restaurants were linked to an E. coli outbreak in six states, per <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://archive.cdc.gov/www_cdc_gov/ecoli/2022/o157h7-08-22/index.html">the CDC</a>. A total of 109 people were infected, with 52 hospitalized. No deaths were reported. An investigation into the incident was unable to determine the specific food source responsible for the outbreak, but 46 people reported eating romaine lettuce served on the burgers and sandwiches before falling sick, per <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://archive.cdc.gov/www_cdc_gov/ecoli/2022/o157h7-08-22/details.html">the CDC</a>. As a precaution, the fast-food chain removed romaine lettuce from menu items in the affected states. In its latest <a target="_blank" href="https://www.wendys.com/csr-what-we-value/reports">corporate responsibility report</a>, published in May, Wendy's said it was committed to continuously improving its food safety standards and operational procedures and has conducted over 12,000 Food Safety Assessments in its restaurants worldwide. <h2>What McDonald's should do</h2>The McDonald's case differs from similar incidents at other <keyword id="20697449" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fast-food-chains" source="keywords">fast-food chains</keyword> primarily due to the iconic status of the Quarter Pounder, Alexandra Leung, the founder of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://monogic.co/">Monogic</a>, an F&amp;B marketing and PR agency in Singapore and Hong Kong, told Business Insider. "As a classic menu item, any food safety issue involving the Quarter Pounder could significantly impact consumer trust and brand reputation, making it a more sensitive issue for McDonald's," she said. The Quarter Pounder is important to McDonald's menu — and to its brand more broadly. The fast-food chain will also have to conduct thorough audits of its suppliers' practices, she said. In addition to removing any affected items from the menu, McDonald's should also communicate clearly with its customers throughout the process, Leung said. "Clear messaging about the steps being taken to ensure food safety is vital. This proactive approach will help reassure customers that their health is a top priority," Leung said. "Transparency is crucial in rebuilding trust with customers, as it demonstrates accountability and a commitment to their safety." His father tragically passed away from the disease in 2006, a loss that left a profound mark on him. Yet, in hindsight, it was this tragedy that may have saved McQueen’s life. "In some ways, you could say my dad saved my life because, unfortunately, he died of it," McQueen reflected. His father’s battle prompted McQueen to stay vigilant about his own health, which led to the early detection that ultimately spared him a worse fate. Having faced prostate cancer head-on, McQueen is now on a mission to spread awareness, particularly within the Black community, where the risk is higher. "One in 12 Black men will die of prostate cancer," McQueen stated passionately. "For me, it was about preempting it. The fact that I was preempting the situation for years was, again, my saviour in that way. So, just preempt it and get it early." McQueen expressed frustration at the hesitancy among men to seek screenings. "The tragedy of this is no one has to die of it," he emphasised, highlighting the life-saving importance of early detection. McQueen’s advocacy extends to his art. In 2021, he released Embarrassed, a short film tackling the stigma around prostate cancer in the Black community. Featuring stars like Idris Elba and Morgan Freeman, the film opened conversations about a topic too often shrouded in silence. His latest short, Proactive for Your Prostate, stars David Harewood and furthers his campaign to encourage Black men to prioritise regular screenings. On Friday, domestic equity benchmarks closed higher, with the Nifty 50 finishing above 22,450. The Nifty 50 formed a small positive candle on the daily chart, suggesting a high wave type candle formation, indicative of a positive market sentiment as it closed above Thursday's high of 22,432.
