The National Payments Corporation of India (<keyword id="193629" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="npci" source="Orion">NPCI</keyword>), along with telecom major <keyword id="2003276" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="jio" source="Orion">Jio</keyword>, on Thursday announced that <keyword id="9621522" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="upi-autopay" source="Orion">UPI Autopay</keyword> has now been introduced for the telecom industry with Jio. Jio customers can now set standing instructions on the MyJio App using UPI <keyword id="2836894" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="autopay" source="Orion">Autopay</keyword> for their favourite tariff plans. "The combination of Jio's superior prepaid and postpaid plans and UPI Autopay will now be available to every Jio user," Kiran Thomas, Director, Jio, said in a statement. "Jio users will no longer need to remember their recharge renewal date or bill payment date and perform manual payments. This will enable an ALWAYS-ON service experience for every Jio prepaid user," Thomas added. Jio's integration with UPI Autopay has made it the first player in the telecom industry to go live with the unique e-mandate feature that was launched by NPCI. "We are glad to associate with Jio and witness UPI Autopay venturing into the ever-evolving telecom sector. We believe our collaboration will change the way Jio customers experience the renewal of their mobile tariff plans," said Kunal Kalawatia, Chief of Products, NPCI. How to earn money from Reliance Jio's new app JioPOS Lite

But that’s not the only issue its users are facing. The plans, which were fairly simple earlier, are being perceived as complicated. The data recharge plans normally included unlimited local calling.  How are traditional data plans different? Traditional daily data plans that sell for ₹449 for 91 days, ₹399 for 84 days and ₹349 for 70 days don’t come bundled with any minutes whatsoever.  How can I get free calling to other networks with data? In case, you don’t want to recharge with balance, Jio does give users to option to top-up their plans with <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/corporates/news/interconnect-usage-charge-iuc-top-up-voucher-detail-for-reliance-jio-customer/articleshow/71516405.cms">IUC vouchers</a> — ₹10 gets you 124 IUC minutes, while ₹100 can provide 1362 IUC minutes. The IUC voucher, however, has to be applied alongside the data recharge. It is not a standalone option that can be added later. Even the long-term plans for ₹999, ₹1999, ₹4999 and ₹9999 don’t have free calling to other networks and need to be supplemented with IUC vouchers. What do Jio’s new ‘all-in-one’ plans include? Jio’s ‘all-in-one’ plans don’t actually include everything but are more budget-friendly for people who need to make calls to outside networks. The cheapest plan at ₹149 includes 300 minutes of IUC calls and 1.5GB of daily data for 24 days. Once the IUC minutes run out, you will be charged for calls at 6 paise/minute. Subsequent plans of ₹222, ₹333, and ₹444 — lasting 28, 56, and 84 days respectively — all come with 2GB daily data and 1000 IUC minutes. How can I protect myself against future price hikes? Jio and other telecom companies in the market are expected to increase tariffs again after December 1. But Jio — and Airtel — are now allowing users to queue up their data recharges at the current price to activate in the future. If you’re a Jio subscriber, all you have to do is go into the MyJio app and recharge with any of the plans that you wish to activate at a later date. Jio has now launched a new all-in-one pack for ₹222, which will give users 1,000 minutes free talk time for calls made to any other non-Jio number. It has also introduced a few other packs for ₹333 and ₹444, which also offer up to 3,000 minutes free talk-time to other numbers while Jio to Jio calls remain free with all the all-in-one packs. This move comes right after Jio <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/reliance-jio-withdraws-two-cheap-recharge-packs/articleshow/71681410.cms">withdrew its cheapest packs</a> worth ₹19 and ₹52 and Jio’s much talked move to charge its users 6 paise per minute for calls. Jio’s cheapest pack now comes at ₹98. This is the first time that the Mukesh Ambani-led telecom network is moving away from cheap mobile tariff plans which has been its USP, since launch in 2016. Jio vs Vodafone Jio still faces big competition from India’s largest telecom provider Vodafone Idea. Jio has 348.2 million subscribers and Vodafone Idea has 375 million subscribers according to latest data from Telecom Regulatory of India. Vodafone Idea still offers multiple unlimited calls packs which start for as low as ₹119 for 28 days. However, Jio’s new pack offers 2GB data per day, while most of Vodafone’s packs (which are cheaper than Jio) continue to give its users 1 GB data per day. Jio vs Airtel Jio overtook Airtel to be India’s second largest telecom provider. However, Airtel still continues to hold a massive user base of 327.9 million. Airtel offers packs for ₹178, ₹248, ₹495 and ₹595 which give its new customers unlimited calls along with data each day.
