The Government of India has mandated all the vehicles running on the Indian roads to get <keyword id="3005928" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="FASTag">FASTag</keyword> by December 1, 2019. FASTag is developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) as part of the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) program. FASTag facilitates direct toll payments by deducting the toll fee from the linked account of the customer. With the date for affixing FASTag nearing, here are a few FAQs that will help you ensure compliance better. What are the benefits of FASTag? FASTag can rule out the need to wait at the long queues at the toll plazas. Some of the benefits of FASTag include promoting digital payment among the toll users, reducing pollution due to the vehicles waiting at the toll plazas and saving the time of the toll users. How to recharge FASTag? The user can recharge the FATag account online through credit card / debit card / NEFT / RTGS or Net Banking. PayTm also provides the facility to recharge FASTag. What happens if there is no adequate balance in FASTag? It is the customer’s responsibility to maintain adequate balance in the FASTag. The National Highways Authority has directed the zonal offices to levy double toll fee as the penalty for vehicles not having FASTag. This will mean 100% penalty for not having FASTag. The rule reads thus, “User of the vehicle not fitted with FASTag entering the FASTag lane of the toll plazas shall pay a fee equivalent to two times of the fee applicable to the category of vehicle as per sub-rule (2) of rule 4.” Can FASTag be transferred to another vehicle? FASTag is vehicle specific and completely linked to the particular vehicle for which it is originally bought. It cannot be transferred to any other vehicle.  The National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) programme, the flagship initiative of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, has been implemented on a pan-India basis in order to remove bottlenecks and ensure seamless movement of traffic and collection of user fee as per the notified rates, using passive radio frequency identification (RFID) technology.
 "Over 70 lakh FASTags have been issued till date, with the highest per-day issuance of 1,35,583 tags on November 26, 2019, (Tuesday), whereas 1.03 lakh tags were issued on the day before. The average daily issuance has grown by 330 per cent from 8,000 in July to 35,000 tags sold in November 2019," the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in a statement.
 After announcement of waiver of tag cost from November 21, there has been a growth in FASTag issuance, it said adding that FASTag is accepted on more than 560 toll plazas and more number of plazas are getting added on a daily basis.
 To give a major fillip to enhance digital payments and bring in enhanced transparency, the ministry said it has directed to declare all lanes of fee plazas on national highways as 'FASTag lanes' by December 1.
 However, one lane in each direction would be kept as 'hybrid lane' which will accept FASTag and other modes of payment, it added.
 "With the above mandate, average daily transactions processed through FASTag have grown from 8.8 lakh in July this year to 11.2 lakh transactions in November 2019, while the average daily collection has grown from Rs 11.2 crore to Rs 19.5 crore for the given period," the ministry said.
 To avoid difficulties at toll plazas, commuters are advised to maintain sufficient balance in the account or wallet linked to FASTag.
 All the available mode of recharges such as debit card, credit card, net banking and Unified Payments Interface have been enabled for loading money to the FASTag account.
 A customer may call on the helpline number, '1033', for any assistance related to FASTags, the ministry said and added that they can also reach out to the banks to obtain FASTags. ABI HRS

Over 70 lakh FASTags issued so far

New Delhi, Jan 3 () CSC e-Governance Services India on Friday said it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Paytm Payments Bank Ltd (PPBL) for sale of FASTags.
The agreement will facilitate sale of PPBL FASTags through the last mile network of 3.6 lakh CSCs, helping realise the government's vision of cashless and smooth transit at all toll plazas across country, a statement said.
"As per the MoU, CSC and Paytm Payments Bank will jointly aim to sell FASTags. For this, CSC will integrate its platform with Paytm Payments Bank to carry out seamless transactions," it added.
The Village Level Entrepreneurs will be trained on conducting paperless and cashless sales, the statement said.
FASTags -- which work on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology -- have been made mandatory at toll gates on national highways. The FASTag process allows toll payments directly from the prepaid or savings account linked to it, thus doing away with the need for waiting in queues, saving time and fuel.
As of December 31, over 1.15 crore FASTags have been issued.
CSCs started selling FASTags in September 2017 when it partnered with Equitas Bank. Later on, State Bank of India and HDFC Bank came onboard.
Since March 2019, CSC has tied up with National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) also for selling FASTags. Around 2.84 lakh FASTags have been sold by CSCs across the country so far, with Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Haryana and Gujarat topping the list of states with maximum sales. 
"CSCs have been providing FASTag service for the past two years. With FASTags becoming mandatory, we have received more than 8 lakh orders from VLEs. The transition towards digitization of toll tax payments through digital payment is a significant step towards modernisation," CSC SPV CEO Dinesh Tyagi said.
In addition, CSCs are also serving the vehicle owners and transporters through FASTag 'top-up' through wallet recharge. So far, more than Rs 74 crore worth top-up for FASTags has been done by VLEs across the country. SR BAL

 The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had earlier announced that from December 1, toll payments on highways would be accepted through FASTags only. 
 "To facilitate sufficient lead time to citizens to obtain FASTag, it has now been decided that all the lanes in the Fee plazas shall be declared as 'FASTag lane of Fee Plaza' by December 15, 2019," a Ministry of Road Transport and Highways communication said.

Car services management app Park+ on Tuesday said it has raised Rs 140 crore in a funding round led by <keyword id="5998794" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="epiq-capital" source="Orion">Epiq Capital</keyword>, Matrix Partners <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> and Sequoia Capital India. The company plans to utilise the fund to expand its presence to over 100 cities, hire more than 200 employees and expand its services verticals, Park+ said in a statement. "The fund (Rs 140 crore) that we have raised will help us in strengthening our team and expanding our presence to over 100 cities. Unocoin launches deposits via UPI wallet to buy and sell Bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies on the platform

New Delhi, Dec 15 () NHAI on Sunday said it has started electronic toll collection at national highways pan-India through FASTag.
 In order to save fuel, time and curb pollution as well as ensure seamless movement of traffic, Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) through FASTag was successfully started on December 15 by NHAI all over the country, it said in a statement.
 FASTag is a prepaid tag, affixed on the vehicle's windscreen, that enables automatic deduction of toll charges and lets the vehicle pass through the toll plaza without stopping for cash transaction.
 "All 523 Toll Plazas of NHAI have been fully equipped with the required ETC infrastructure," the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said.
 It said as many vehicles are still without FASTag, up to 25 per cent lanes have been kept as hybrid lanes for cash as well as digital transaction for the convenience of the commuters.
 Each toll plaza is being supervised by a nodal officer of NHAI at ground and monitored at regional and head-quarter level control and command centres, it said.
 Regional officers have been authorised to take on the spot decision for conversion to hybrid lanes up to 25 per cent on case-to-case basis to avoid traffic pile up at high traffic volume fee plazas, it added.
 Adequate number of marshals have been deputed at each toll plaza for smooth traffic regulation and to educate and request commuters to buy FASTags. Commuters are being told how to get and recharge FASTag through pamphlets and public announcements, the statement said.
 In addition, at various toll plazas novel methods like distributing flowers and chocolates were done to encourage commuters to adopt FASTag, NHAI said.
 The implementation of FASTag will lead to behavioural shift of commuters and will lead to enhanced travel experience, it added.
