Sheth has shared a glimpse of the laptop with a cryptic message that translates to "Hello World!". Realme did not just opt for a Xiaomi-like strategy for smartphones, but has also been competing in other categories too. Xiaomi <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/news/mi-notebook-will-be-xiaomis-first-laptop-in-india/articleshow/76037729.cms">launched its first laptop</a> around the same time last year, and now it's time for Realme to join the club. Realme has been working on launching its laptop in India for a while. In May, it started a <a href="https://c.realme.com/in/post-details/1389104035876921344">questionnaire</a> on its forum asking its customers and community members about their preferences for a laptop. Realme has asked people if they are planning on buying a new laptop in the next three months. Going by the image shared by Sheth, the finish of the laptop looks oddly similar to that of Apple MacBooks. He has also asked his followers to guess the name of the upcoming product. In January, tipster Mukul Sharma also <a href="https://twitter.com/stufflistings/status/1353705962968805376">claimed</a> that Realme laptops could be launched around June. Realme's timing to launch a laptop might have come a little late, but the laptop market is still hot as remote working and online schooling are still here to stay. So, the demand for laptops is unlikely to settle down anytime soon. Realme laptop launch imminent in India — teaser shows MacBook like finish

On its way to market leadership in the country, Xiaomi has adopted an aggressive strategy with respect to prices and product launches. Now, another Chinese company, Realme is chasing Xiaomi, and chasing hard. The competition between Xiaomi and Realme has already gone beyond smartphones. Realme recently announced its financial credit service called Payसा that will compete with Xiaomi’s Mi Credit. At a time when Indian buyers were wary of buying smartphones online, Xiaomi chose to go the online-only model. Its first launch, the Mi 3, proved to be a massive success. The company sold the smartphone in weekly flash sales, and quite often, it ran out of stock within seconds of the start of the sales. In late 2017, Xiaomi finally beat Samsung to become the market leader with a share of 25%, while Samsung came in second at 23%. Enter Realme Realme debuted in India in May 2018 with an entry-level smartphone called the Realme 1. Realme has since launched several smartphones that compete with Xiaomi’s offerings both in terms of the features as well as pricing. At the moment, Realme has smartphones starting at ₹5,999 and going all the way up to ₹34,999. In comparison, Xiaomi’s smartphone portfolio starts at ₹4,299 and goes up to ₹29,999. Realme’s strategy of competing with Xiaomi on both features as well as price has paid handsome dividends – Realme has gained 16% market share in by September 2019 in just two years of its presence in India. At the same time, Xiaomi’s market share in the same period fell from 31% to 26%. War of words The competition went beyond products. Realme’s quick rise in the Indian smartphone industry also led to a war of words between the heads of Realme and Xiaomi. It did not help that Realme’s messaging took on Xiaomi directly.  Going beyond smartphones While Xiaomi has built a wide portfolio of products in India over the course of the last few years, Realme’s primary products remain smartphones and accessories. That seems to be changing now. Realme CEO Madhav Sheth <a href="https://www.gsmarena.com/realme_fitness_band_teased_at_5i_launch-news-40946.php">teased</a> the company’s first fitness band at the launch of its <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/mobile/news/realme-5i-quad-rear-cameras-launched-india/articleshow/73169607.cms">latest budget smartphone</a>. Expected to launch in the first half of 2020, the Realme fitness band could be priced aggressively to compete with Xiaomi’s Mi Band range. <div type="image" title="Realme Band" msid="73191235" hostid="261"></div>

 Realme has also announced its arrival in the financial services space with the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/news/smartphone-makers-realme-and-xiaomi-will-compete-in-the-financial-services-market-too/articleshow/72832681.cms">launch of Payसा</a>. With this, it takes on <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/xiaomi-launches-mi-credit-in-india/articleshow/72350148.cms">Xiaomi’s Mi Credit</a> service. Realme hopes to acquire 25 million Payसा users in the next two years. Both Xiaomi and Realme <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/news/xiaomi-and-realme-gear-up-to-launch-iot-products-in-india-in-2020/articleshow/72882304.cms">have plans</a> to launch Internet of Things (IoT) products in India in 2020. Realme TVs are also on the way Realme CMO Xu Qi Chase has also <a href="https://www.ithome.com/0/467/292.htm">confirmed</a> that the company will launch its TV portfolio in 2020. Going by Realme’s history so far, the first Realme TVs could compete with Xiaomi’s Mi TV models in most aspects. The launch of Realme TVs in India might not change the landscape much, though. Xiaomi’s Mi TV portfolio is spread across different price segments, starting at ₹12,499 and going all the way up to ₹47,999. This gives both Xiaomi and Realme enough room to exist simultaneously, unlike the budget smartphone segment which has cutthroat competition. For the premium TV buyers, though, Smart TVs from Xiaomi and Realme may not even matter even though they offer plenty of features at a fraction of the price. For one, the display quality and viewing experience on TVs from Sony, LG, Samsung and even OnePlus is far superior. Xiaomi vs Realme: India has become the battleground for two Chinese companies

The wireless giant is exploring building a data partnership with other top wireless players, including T-Mobile, Sprint, Vodafone and Telefónica, people with knowledge of the matter told Business Insider.Specifically, Verizon wants to pool together more wireless consumer data that can be used for ad targeting. A big reason Google and Facebook are so dominant in digital advertising - besides the fact that their platforms reach huge audiences -is that they have powerful, accurate data sets on millions of consumers that can be used by advertisers to target people with more relevant ads.When Verizon purchased AOL two years ago, Oath CEO Tim Armstrong spoke openly about the power of Verizon's data and how it, coupled with AOL's advertising technology and large audience, could be used to put some real pressure on Google and Facebook on the ad targeting front. For example, Verizon knows where its customers live, where they travel, and what apps they use, all of which could be used to show people more relevant ads as they surf the web. But while <a href="http://www.fiercewireless.com/wireless/how-verizon-at-t-t-mobile-sprint-and-more-stacked-up-q1-2017-top-7-carriers">Verizon's US subscriber base is close to 150 million people</a>, that's still rather paltry compared to Facebook and Google's massive audiences. So if it can license data from T-Mobile, for instance, it could layer on ad targeting signals from roughly 72 million more consumers.In addition, licensing data from companies like Vodaphone and Telefónica would help Verizon expand its ad footprint outside the US, an area where advertisers have been pushing for progress, given Google and Facebook's global clout.There's a lot to be worked out behind the scenes for such a data partnership to fully come to fruition. To date, just <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/verizon-aol-ad-tech-potential-2017-6">weaving together the various pieces of AOL and Verizon </a>has proven particularly complicated. And the level of data that various wireless companies would be willing to license may vary widely. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/oath-ceo-tim-armstrong-slightly-backed-off-his-claim-of-challenging-google-and-facebook-in-online-advertising-2017-6">But Armstrong did discuss this plan in his pitch to top advertisers at the Cannes ad festival last week, said people familiar with the matter.</a>Verizon was potentially hampered by regulatory uncertainty during the waning months of the Obama administration. But since March <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/republicans-kill-fcc-broadband-privacy-rules-2017-3">when Republican senators voted to kill regulations</a> in this realm, companies like Verizon are freer to exploit consumer data for advertising. (Of course, it's perhaps a different story in Europe, where <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/eu-fines-google-record-breaking-antitrust-shopping-case-2017-6">regulators just hit Google with a monster fine</a>).If Verizon and competitors like T-Mobile and Telefonica did share consumer data, it's a good bet that there would be steps taken to make sure that no personal consumer identification data would be shared between the two companies. Undoubtedly, consumer privacy advocates would scrutinize this project closely.If this plan proceeds, it will be interesting to see what other Verizon rivals may participate. It seems doubtful that AT&amp;T would jump in, considering that Verizon is blocking AT&amp;T users from logging onto <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2017/06/25/take-the-oath/">Yahoo with AT&amp;T email addresses, according to TechCrunch.</a> And Sprint's potential wireless pact with Comcast and Charter, first reported by the Wall Street Journal, would only seem to complicate matters.Officials from T-Mobile and Telefonica declined to comment. Verizon wants to borrow T-Mobile and Vodafone's consumer data to take on Facebook and Google

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image">The Great Manipulator.</div></div></div> The Internet found something new to be outraged about last week, when it was revealed that a Facebook product test might have temporarily affected the way some of its users felt.
This test, one of many the company conducts routinely with the aim of improving its product, involved 700,000 English-speaking Facebook users for a week in 2012.
The test was designed to test a prevailing "meme" at the time: The hypothesis that the upbeat tone of the content people shared and saw on Facebook, all those "likes" and "friends" and happy group photos, might be causing people in the real world to be depressed-in the same way, presumably, that Photoshopped cover models are thought to make real people insecure and unhappy about their normality.
Facebook's data scientists designed a clever way to test this theory. They set up a word filter to evaluate all the posts that were eligible to be placed in each user's News Feed and then they tweaked the selection algorithm so that some users got slightly more "positive" content and others got slightly more "negative" content. Then the scientists used the word filter to compare the posts of users who saw more "positive" content with those who saw more "negative" content.
The results of the test suggested that the "meme" of the moment was wrong.
Rather than being depressed that their lives didn't measure up to those of the happy people on Facebook, the users who saw slightly more positive content actually posted slightly more positive status updates. The users who saw slightly more negative content, meanwhile, posted slightly more negative updates. 
In other words, far from getting depressed by the happiness portrayed on Facebook, people seemed to find the upbeat mood modestly infectious. And vice versa.
This information was helpful to Facebook in deciding what to do (and not do) to its product.
For understandable reasons, the company did not want its product to make people depressed (what company does?). And if Facebook's News Feed algorithm was selecting content that made people depressed, as the prevailing meme was suggesting, then Facebook wanted to know that. But the results of the test suggested that the theory was wrong. So, according to one person familiar with the situation, Facebook did not change its product in response to the test.
But that didn't stop a large number of people from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/facebooks-sheryl-sandberg-we-never-meant-to-upset-you-2014-7">exploding in indignation</a> when they heard about the test.
Facebook is intentionally manipulating our emotions, these people howled.
Facebook is using us as unwitting guinea pigs!
Facebook is abusing its users' trust!
And so on. Even now, almost a week after news broke, people are still acting as though Facebook is some sort of digital-age Mengele, conducting evil, harmful experiments on millions of unwilling human test-subjects.
Come on.
This was a product test.
Companies conduct product tests all the time.
And these product tests are often designed to evaluate the emotions of those who use the products.
Yes, it's true that many such product tests are conducted via focus groups or test screenings or other venues in which people know they are participating in a product test. But many others are not.
When a direct-mail company is testing messages, for example, it doesn't tell you it's conducting a test. When politicians test talking points, they don't tell you they're testing them. Same for companies that test different advertisements or promotions and then compares response rates. 
What's more, in the digital realm, companies like Facebook conduct product tests on "unwitting" participants-their users-almost every day.
When, as a Google executive, Marissa Mayer famously tested 41 shades of blue to see which shade prompted the highest user response rate, she was conducting a product test. Google's users didn't know they were being used as test subjects. Marissa Mayer didn't ask their permission to test how they felt about each particular blue. She just tested them.
On the advertising side, moreover, Google tests millions of advertisements every day. Google presents you, its users, with different ad placements and wordings and pictures, until it figures out which ads you are most likely to respond to. Google, in other words, tests what you see and do all day long, all without your knowing. And so do Amazon and dozens of other digital companies with the technology resources necessary to continually A/B test with the aim of improving their products.
But Facebook was trying to manipulate its users' emotions!, people still protest.
Actually, Facebook wasn't trying to do that. 
Facebook was trying to see whether a prevailing theory about the impact of Facebook's product on emotions was correct or not. And it turned out it wasn't.
In the process, Facebook may-may-have temporarily, slightly influenced the emotions of some of its users.
But it's important to note just how slight this possible influence was.
Facebook's study, a person familiar with the situation says, found that users whose News Feeds were set to include modestly more "positive" content than the average user's made modestly more "positive" comments than average-to the tune of one (1) extra positive word in every thousand (1,000) words.
Similarly, users whose News Feeds were set to include modestly more "negative" content than average were found to write one (1) extra negative word per thousand (1,000) words than the average.
That's not exactly massive emotional influence.
But Facebook can manipulate our emotions, the indignant netizens still shout. Facebook can shape our thoughts. Facebook can affect elections! 
Facebook is way too powerful, in other words. 
Facebook is certainly powerful. And, in the hands of the wrong people, Facebook could certainly be used as a tool for mass-market mind control.
But when it comes to concerns about that - about companies that have the power to manipulate emotions, shape thoughts, and affect elections - there are probably other, fatter targets to worry about.
Such as television networks.
