According to TC Meenakshi Sundaram, co-founder and vice chairperson at Chiratae Ventures, fintechs have innovated for the underserved financial markets. The ecosystem has been supportive too. “These include fast-growing digital adoption and mobile penetration on the back of the cheapest data rates in the world offered by private telecom players, to enabling regulatory environment coupled with world-leading digital infrastructure (Aadhar, UPI, BBPS etc), and structural reforms and initiatives (GST, TReDSetc.),” said Sundaram. Fintech has also been growing in sectors like agriculture, retail, health and property technology. The report states that payments, digital lending, wealthtech, insurtech, and neo-banking will all be contributing to growth in the fintech space with agri+fintech and prop+fintech considered to be big bets. “India is recognized as a strong fintech hub globally and is increasingly becoming a talent destination for fintech businesses,” said Rajiv Memani, chairman and managing partner at EY India. Indian fintechs to grow 10x and manage assets worth $1 trillion by 2030

E-commerce aggregation platform <keyword id="4178573" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="ShipRocket">Shiprocket</keyword> on Thursday said it has raised $41.3 million (about Rs 305 crore) in Series D1 funding co-led by <keyword id="11591696" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PayPal-Ventures">PayPal Ventures</keyword>, the corporate VC arm of <keyword id="6357940" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="paypal">PayPal</keyword>. The latest infusion of capital brings Shiprocket's total funding to $94.3 million. The New Delhi-based company said that it aims to leverage these funds to fuel product development for both existing and new products, to invest in research and development, continue <keyword id="29547" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Market">market</keyword> expansion and accelerate overall growth. Direct-to-consumer (D2C) <keyword id="84" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Commerce">commerce</keyword> forms roughly 15 per cent of the overall e-commerce market in India and this is projected to grow to 30-35 per cent in the next five years. "Shiprocket is democratizing best-in-class experiences for hundreds of thousands of eCommerce brands that are shipping millions of items per month through our platform today," said <keyword id="1759829" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Saahil-Goel">Saahil Goel</keyword>, CEO, and Co-Founder of Shiprocket. Over 100,000 online sellers in India are using Shiprocket to streamline their post-checkout process, starting from logistics to warehousing to COD management. PayPal pumps in ₹305 crore in Indian logistics platform Shiprocket

<ul><li><keyword id="2777173" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Razorpay">Razorpay</keyword> has launched a corporate credit card for <keyword id="6362513" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="startups">startups</keyword> and <keyword id="44779" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SMEs">SMEs</keyword>.</li><li>It also announced payment support for freelancers and homepreneurs, who struggle to manage their invoices and payments. </li><li>It also announced the acquisition of a payroll and HR management software company – Opfin. </li><li>Razorpay is expecting its business volume to grow four times by the end of FY21. </li></ul>Indian neo-banking platform Razorpay has launched a corporate credit card for startups and SMEs, along with a bunch of other products today. The credit card will give businesses a no-cost interest for 50 days with a credit line ranging between ₹50,000 to ₹25,00,000. “The move we have made today, helps us expand our horizon in payments and banking and solve new challenges for ambitious businesses who are wanting to disrupt the Indian economy,” said said Harshil Mathur, CEO and Co-founder of Razorpay. The company also claims that it has seen a 500% growth in the last one year. It has over 800,000 clients and hopes to grow this number to 1.4 million by 2020. Some of its marquee clients are Indigo, Bombay Stock Exchange, Thomas Cook, Reliance Industries, SpiceJet, Aditya Birla, Sony and Oyo. It is also expecting its business volume to grow four times by the end of FY21. The startup also announced payment support for freelancers and homepreneurs who struggle to manage their invoices and payments. “We want to make banking trivially simple and accessible for our partner businesses so that while they focus on building new ideas, products and experiences, we take care of their concerns around financial processes,” said Mathur. It also announced the acquisition of a payroll and HR management software company – Opfin. The financial details of the transaction are not disclosed. In June, Razorpay raised $75 million in a series C round of funding from marquee investors like Sequoia India and Ribbit Capital, along with participation from Tiger Global and Y Combinator. In June, the startup also offered digital payment support for 100 currencies enabling Indian businesses to transact and accept payment from global companies. Interestingly, Razorpay was also one of the first startups to announce employee stock options.  PhonePe’s CEO Sameer Nigam too addressed the issue early in the morning and wrote on Twitter, “Dear @PhonePe_ customers. We sincerely regret the long outage. Our partner bank (Yes Bank) was placed under moratorium by RBI. Entire team's been working all night to get services back up asap. We hope to be live in a few hours. Thanks for your patience. Stay tuned for updates!.” A few Twitter users called <a href="https://twitter.com/kamleshksingh/status/1235789461243363330">PhonePe</a> a collateral damage to the <keyword id="8873513" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="yes-bank-crisis">YES Bank crisis</keyword>. Meanwhile, <keyword id="759851" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zerodha">Zerodha</keyword> which offers retail and institutional broking, currencies and commodities trading, mutual funds, and bonds, too addressed its customers’ concerns. Nitin Kamath, the founder and CEO of the company YES Bank customers to change their primary bank linked with their Zerodha accounts immediately. “We have cancelled all fund withdrawal requests made by clients to their YES bank accounts so that the money doesn’t get blocked. YES Bank – a leader in UPI transactions leaves payment companies like PhonePe high and dry

The 5-year old startup founded by IIT alums Harshil Mathur and Shashank Kumar has been growing its business rapidly and claims to have grown by 500% in the last financial year. “Our key mission is that while our partner businesses disrupt the Indian economy with new ideas, products, experiences and new jobs, we want to power their financial systems. Over 350,000 disruptors partnered with us to create the difference that we are here to make. This funding has come in at a time when fintech and banking is evolving beyond payments and lending, and we would like to change the way businesses access banking products,” said Harshil Mathur, CEO and Co-Founder, Razorpay. It is poised for more growth. The company said that its neo-banking platform and lending arm could alone contribute to 40% of its revenue by next year. This fintech startup undergoes a revamp to cash-in post demonitization

<ul><li>The biggest menace for the Indian startups angel tax was not addressed in the Budget 2019. </li><li>Indian entrepreneurs are disappointed with the exclusion of startup policies. </li><li>However, Finance Minister Piyush Goyal included artificial intelligence in the government’s Vision 2030, which could boost the growth of AI startups. </li></ul>Indian startups had big hopes from the Budget 2019 but the government failed to bring anything on board for the entrepreneurs in the country. You just need to do the work to do research on companies, call customers, figure out market size, etc. Many early stage investors don't do this.Hustle is getting into deals. Many investors wait for founders to be raising and to come to them. This is lazy.Instead, investors should figure out what companies they want to invest in, and convince those founders to take money (whether it's during a fundraising cycle or not).The best angels I know will just start being helpful and build a relationship with the founders, and then get allocation or even included in previous rounds.Observation: most SV gains (probably including my own) are purely because we have been investing into massive bull market. Everyone who started angel investing 10 years ago looks like a genius (you would have looked the same just buying a basket of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/faang-companies-are-going-their-own-ways-2019-1">FAANG stocks</a>).
