It also helps individuals maintain their autonomy, rather than handing over important decisions to a judge."You want to be in control of your own destiny," Stephens said. Here's how to maintain that control and work together with your former partner to create a conflict-free divorce. <h2>Try to reflect on the good times</h2>During a divorce, emotions run high and you may feel intense dislike or even hatred for your spouse. But almost all relationships have happy memories built on a foundation of love. <a href="https://www.insider.com/wife-and-i-divorced-relationship-wound-down-2023-7">Connecting with these memories can give you the emotional resolve</a> to move forward in a less hostile manner. "There was a time when you were in love, got married, made babies. Look back at that before you get into the next argument. Let's try to build on those things, not to save the relationship, but to get through the divorce process effectively," Stephens said.<h2>Focus on your common goals and seek help as needed</h2>Divorce can highlight the differences between you and your spouse. But in most cases, people share a few common goals, which are to get through the process with minimal financial and emotional turmoil. Together, you can work toward that objective. In order to do that you need three ingredients: disclosure, information, and discussion, said Stephens and Raymond. Talk openly about your financial assets and obligations, gathering information on your debts and assets and disclosing everything — even funds your partner might not know about. Discuss issues like custody. Start these conversations at home, but <a href="https://www.insider.com/what-its-like-being-through-multiple-divorces-2023-8">seek professional help from a mediator or marriage-dissolution counselor</a> if the conversations devolve into blame sessions. <h2>Understand that divorce isn't the end of your relationship</h2>You may feel like you never want to see your partner again. But in almost all marriages, <a href="https://www.insider.com/woman-shares-kids-with-ex-she-copes-empty-home-2023-1">children, financial investments like property, or shared pets will bring you together even after you're divorced.</a> If this is the case for you, respectful communication is key — not only during the divorce but after."Just because the court says divorce is final, that doesn't mean that's the end," Raymond said. "Get rid of the anger and torture and have open discussions."<h2>Think of divorce as a business transaction</h2>Divorces can have the same emotional impact as a death, said Raymond. But in the eyes of the law, they're a simple legal contract issue. "Divorce becomes a business transaction," Stephens said. A knowledgeable mediator can help you reach an agreement using your state's laws. This is largely the same process that a judge will orchestrate if you go to trial, he said. The difference is that with a mediator, you and your partner have more control, instead of putting the decision into the hands of a stranger. After all, Stephens said, you wouldn't let a stranger order dinner for you — so why let them determine the terms of your divorce?<h2>Take your friends' advice with a grain of salt</h2>Venting to friends can help you process emotions. But beware of friends who offer you suggestions on what to do. Oftentimes, they "have their own axes to grind," Stephens said, including their opinion of your partner or their own divorce experiences. They also don't know the intricacies of your finances or situation. <a href="https://www.insider.com/what-i-learned-when-i-gave-up-on-mom-friends-2023-5">Friends with strong opinions about your divorce</a> can keep you from making real progress in mediation, Stephens said. <h2>Work separately with individual therapists</h2>Divorce brings up many emotions. Having professional help to navigate those before, during, and after the official process is helpful. While couples therapy can also be helpful, <a href="https://www.insider.com/guides/health/online-therapist-for-free#hims-and-hers-1">individual therapy will help you process your emotions</a> and develop more appropriate, effective ways of dealing with your ex. Be patient with yourself and expect to process these emotions — and more — over time. "Divorce isn't just A and Z, it's the whole alphabet in between," Raymond said. <h2>Work toward acceptance and process your grief</h2>Like a death, <a href="https://www.insider.com/tracking-emotions-grief-on-spreadsheet-to-process-breakup-2022-11#:~:text=Though%20the%20pain%20you%20feel,the%20blink%20of%20an%20eye.">divorce can bring on different stages of grief.</a> The sooner you can work toward acceptance — letting go of rage, blame, and even sadness — the better off you'll be, Stephens and Raymond said."You need to move on," Stephens said. "Life has acts, like a great play. Don't think of the divorce as the end of your life, think about it as the end of your act. There's happiness out there in the next act if you allow it. But if you hold on to bile, resentment, and hate, you're only dooming yourself."

Anyone? </h2>The high-profile fight to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to <keyword id="6359072" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="oil">oil</keyword> drilling appears set for a rather anticlimactic ending.The news: After a three-year push by the Trump administration to allow oil companies to drill in ANWR - considered to be the largest remaining swath of wilderness, and likely home to a huge amount of oil - leases for acreage in the refuge finally went up for sale. But <a href="https://www.alaskapublic.org/2021/01/06/long-awaited-arctic-refuge-oil-lease-sale-attracts-little-interest/">there were just three bidders</a> ... one of which was the state of Alaska. <ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Oh, and half of the available leases had no takers at all. </li><li>You may remember that a big reason for opening up the refuge was the revenue these leases could raise. Now it appears they could net as little as <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/30/climate/anwr-arctic-drilling-leases.html">$15 million</a>. </li></ul>No surprises: The unsuccessful lease sale wasn't exactly surprising. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/big-oil-companies-unlikely-to-drill-arctic-refuge-analysts-say-2020-8">We reported on the lack of interest back in August</a>. <ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Wall Street analysts told us that while the prospect of drilling in ANWR might have been appealing several years ago, the calculus looks a lot different today. </li><li>Companies are looking to cut costs, and drilling in ANWR would be expensive and risky. What a Democratic Senate can and can't do for US energy policy

Indian and Chinese troops appeared heading for a long haul as their tense standoff in the disputed areas of <keyword id="1358217" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pangong-Tso">Pangong Tso</keyword> and <keyword id="9241086" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Galwan-Valley">Galwan Valley</keyword> along the <keyword id="49399" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Line-of-Actual-Control">Line of Actual Control</keyword> in eastern <keyword id="26604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="ladakh">Ladakh</keyword> showed no signs of abating even as efforts to de-escalate the tension through talks continued. In the midst of the flare-ups, the <keyword id="6354416" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Army">Indian Army</keyword> on Sunday categorically rejected reports that Indian patrol teams were detained by Chinese troops in Eastern Ladakh in the last few days, but did not provide any details of the current situation in the region. "There has been no detention of Indian soldiers at the borders. We categorically deny this. It only hurts national interests when media outlets publish unsubstantiated news," the Army said in a statement. People familiar with the situation in the region said the two sides were engaged in trying to resolve the dispute, but there was no indication of a positive outcome yet as both the armies continued to bolster their positions in disputed areas of Pangong Tso and Galwan Valley and Demchok. The Chinese side has particularly strengthened its presence in the Galwan Valley, erecting around 100 tents in the last two weeks and bringing in heavy equipment for construction of bunkers. The Indian side has conveyed its strong objection to China pitching tents and bringing in heavy equipment during the meetings between local commanders of the two armies last week. There have been reports of multiple incidents of transgressions by Chinese troops in several areas in Eastern Ladakh and soldiers from the two sides were involved in scuffles on at least two occasions, sources said. The sources said the Indian Army has also been increasing its strength in both Pangong Tso lake, Galwan Valley and Demchok. The Indian troops are also resorting to "aggressive patrolling" in several sensitive areas including Demchok and Daulat Beg Oldi, they said. The situation in Eastern Ladakh deteriorated after around 250 Chinese and Indian soldiers were engaged in a violent face-off on the evening of May 5 which spilled over to the next day before the two sides agreed to "disengage" following a meeting at the level of local commanders. Over 100 Indian and Chinese soldiers were injured in the violence. The incident in Pangong Tso was followed by a similar incident in North Sikkim on May 9. India on Thursday said the Chinese military was hindering normal patrolling by its troops and asserted that India has always taken a very responsible approach towards border management. At a media briefing, External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava also strongly refuted China's contention that the tension was triggered due to trespassing by Indian forces on the Chinese side. India's response came two days after China accused the Indian Army of trespassing into its territory, claiming that it was an "attempt to unilaterally change the status" of the LAC in Sikkim and Ladakh. On May 5, the Indian and <keyword id="47942" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chinese-army">Chinese army</keyword> personnel clashed with iron rods, sticks, and even resorted to stone-pelting in the Pangong Tso lake area in which soldiers on both sides sustained injuries. In a separate incident, nearly 150 Indian and Chinese military personnel were engaged in a face-off near Naku La Pass in the Sikkim sector on May 9. At least 10 soldiers from both sides sustained injuries. The troops of India and China were engaged in a 73-day stand-off in Doklam tri-junction in 2017 which even triggered fears of a war between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. The India-China border dispute covers the 3,488-km-long LAC. China claims Arunachal Pradesh as part of southern Tibet while India contests it. Both sides have been asserting that pending the final resolution of the boundary issue, it is necessary to maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas. China has been critical of India's reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir, and has particularly criticised New Delhi for making Ladakh a union territory. China lays claim over several parts of Ladakh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held their first informal summit in April 2018 in the Chinese city of Wuhan, months after the Doklam standoff. In the summit, the two leaders decided to issue "strategic guidance" to their militaries to strengthen communications so that they can build trust and understanding. Modi and Xi held their second informal summit in Mamallapuram near Chennai in October last year with a focus on further broadening bilateral ties. Anthony Michelic, president of The PACE Group, said: "Fields that are male-majority (think primarily manufacturing, truck driving, resource extraction, and other outdoor work) are getting hit as well, but are still producing or transporting hard consumables that are being used in the marketplace.Michelic said more jobs need to be opened in both male-dominated and female-dominated industries as the majority of female jobs being lost are not due to human influence but rather due to "sector risk exposure". Indeed, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development <a href="http://www.oecd.org/coronavirus/policy-responses/women-at-the-core-of-the-fight-against-covid-19-crisis-553a8269/#section-d1e418">warned</a> in April: "In the context of the COVID-19 crisis, the fear is that gender employment gaps like these leave women more vulnerable than men to job loss; that women's lesser status in the labour market leaves them more exposed and easier to lay off."Pialy Aditya, chief strategy officer at Republic, echoed this view. Raymond Holmes, who had been <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/raymond-holmes-0b7010b4/">head of client execution services technology at Virtu</a>, is no longer with the company, according to people familiar with the situation. Holmes joined the trading giant when KCG's acquisition of Virtu closed earlier this year. Holmes got his start at Computer Clearing Services, a New York technology company, in 2001. He graduated from SUNY Fredonia in 1999 with a degree in classical guitar performance and computer science, according to his LinkedIn profile.Holmes' departure comes at a pivotal time for Virtu. The firm has been integrating KCG into its infrastructure, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/virtu-cut-staff-by-half-and-is-restructuring-after-kcg-acquisition-2017-11">cutting costs and laying off upper management at legacy KCG at a clip</a>. The success of the integration pushed one analyst to boost his price target for the firm. In a note to clients in late November, UBS analyst Alex Kramm said the trading firm has moved quickly:"After shutting down poorly performing offices (e.g. Singapore/Mumbai), closing down Neonet, selling BondPoint to ICE, and removing a management layer from legacy KCG, VIRT has already been able to upsize expense synergies and free up capital."Mifid II, the European regulatory overhaul, is also on the horizon. They wanted to wipe out their utility bill, but the price seemed too steep.Then, in late 2016, the couple came across a deal they felt they couldn't refuse.A salesman from Powerhome Solar, an energy company headquartered in nearby Mooresville, visited their home and offered them a solar-energy system for no upfront cost that he said would nearly erase their utility bill, according to the Rickenbaughs.They'd just have to make monthly payments for the panels that would be no more than the savings on their electricity bill from Duke Energy, they said.In 2017, the Rickenbaughs signed up, agreeing to pay more than $15,000 for their system.
