RattanIndia acquires 100% stake in Revolt Motors, here is all you need to know about e-mobility startup

<ul><li>Made-in-India drone companies are seeing a boost in sales post ban of drone imports by the government. </li><li>Consumer brands like Swiggy, Zomato, Dunzo and <keyword id="41887" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="biryani" source="Orion">Biryani</keyword> by Kilo have started launching trials for delivery by drones. </li><li>Drones are being used for defense, consumer and delivery purposes. </li><li><keyword id="1605364" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="throttle" source="Orion">Throttle</keyword>, a drone manufacturing company based out of Bangalore, witnessed a 150% growth. </li></ul>Declaring the Indian drone industry as a ‘sunrise sector’, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, under the Ministry of Commerce, banned the import of drones in February. This has given a fillip to homegrown drone companies that are finding innovative uses for these unmanned aerial vehicles. One of India’s leading drone companies <keyword id="7785402" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="throttle-aerospace-systems" source="Orion">Throttle Aerospace Systems</keyword> (TAS) witnessed a 150% growth since the announcement. Even e-commerce companies like Dunzo, Swiggy and Zomato have ventured into the drone delivery space. Last year, Zomato acquired a drone startup <keyword id="6576859" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="techeagle" source="Orion">TechEagle</keyword> to build models that can help deliver essentials and possibly food in the near future. Medicines and Biryani from the sky <keyword id="2757817" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rattanindia" source="Orion">RattanIndia</keyword>’s drone company Neosky in association with TAS, is now planning to also supply drones for e-commerce and consumer-led initiatives besides defence. The companies have partnered with Dunzo, leading hospitals in India and even grocery delivery for Instamart, by Swiggy. At present, they are manufacturing 30 drones per month, aiming to go upto 45-50 units in the near future. Consumer brands like Swiggy recently partnered with Garuda Aerospace and Throttle to launch doorstep deliveries for groceries through Instamart. Its trials have already begun across Delhi-NCR and Bangalore. Another startup Biryani by Kilo delivered Biryani to eight influencers post the launch of eight stores in Hyderabad. As of now, the drone space in India is extensively being used in the defense sector and helping with delivery of average payload commodities. “We can see consumer led drones picking up but before that we would need designated drone corridors by the government. As of now, drones would be extensively used in the defense sector or for average load deliveries. Though it is exciting to witness food being delivered by a drone, it is further down the future,” said Sarath Chandra <keyword id="14985844" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="gudlavalleti" source="Orion">Gudlavalleti</keyword>, CEO of Neosky. The government too had founded extended uses for drones. During the pandemic, a box weighing 12 kilos of medicines and 20 vials of vaccines was delivered to rural parts of Telangana through drones in an initiative called ‘Medicines from the Sky’. ‘Laws for this sector are still being made’ The government is taking active steps to boost domestic manufacturing of drones. On July 6, 2022, India’s aviation ministry released the second provisional list of 23 beneficiaries of the production-linked incentives (PLI) scheme for the drone industry. Combined annual sales turnover of PLI beneficiaries in the drone industry reached ₹3.19 billion in 2021-22 from ₹880 million the previous year. “A welcome change by the government was to stop drone imports which has boosted Make In India drone companies. Dividing India’s airspace into Red, Green and Amber zones has also helped. But laws for this sector are still being made as it is very new,” said Gudlavalleti. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has divided the Indian airspace into three zones- Green (no permission required), Amber (controlled airspace) and Red (no drones allowed). The government also launched a DigitalSky platform in January 2022 for verification of Made in India drones. The drone defender Through small steps, the Indian government is also opening the door for commercial use of drones during disaster management and even economic mapping. Beginning April 2022, all drone operators have been allowed to promote secure operations without needing multiple approvals by possessing a valid UIN. Throttle is one such beneficiary. On Thursday, RattanIndia through their drone company Neosky assisted with manufacturing company Throttle launched a ‘drone defender.’ It was unveiled by Minister General <keyword id="6364699" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="v-k-singh" source="Orion">V K Singh</keyword>, MOS Aviation Ministry at Air Force Auditorium during the ‘Unmanned Aerial Systems India 2022’ event on September 13. “This drone is 70% indegenious and launches a soft-kill against approaching rogue drones without any human intervention. Instead of using direct attack, this drone will pull down the attacker by shooting a net,” said <keyword id="14985845" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nagander-ramaswamy" source="Orion">Nagander Ramaswamy</keyword>, CEO of drone manufacturing company TAS. “We have acquired a 60% stake in Throttle and hope to build our capacity further,” said Gudlavalleti. Medicines and Biryani from the sky: Made-In-India drones witness growth post import ban

New Delhi, Feb 12 () RattanIndia Power Ltd on Wednesday reported a standalone net profit of Rs 2,106.68 crore during the quarter ended December. The power producer had posted a net loss of Rs 188.55 crore during the same quarter a year ago, it said in a BSE filing. Total income rose to Rs 402.15 crore during the quarter under review from Rs 389.05 crore in the year-ago period. Expenses stood at Rs 962.88 crore as compared with Rs 577.60 crore in October-December 2018. In a statement, the company's CEO Aman Singh attributed the turnaround to "one time settlement of its debt with the existing lenders." ABI RVK

RattanIndia Power posts Rs 2,106 cr profit in Q3

New Delhi, Dec 27 () RattanIndia Power on Friday said its board has approved a proposal to issue securities to its lenders as well as promoter entity RR Infralands Private Ltd for paring debt.
 The board of directors in its meeting held on Friday approved the issuance and allotment of the securities to Power Finance Corporation (PFC) led consortium of lenders and RR Infralands Private Ltd, the company said in a BSE filing.
 The issuances are towards reduction of a portion of the debt owed by the company to the lenders and promoters, it added.
 The PFC-led consortium of lenders had funded 1,350 MW, Phase - I, thermal power project in Amravati, Maharashtra.
 The consortium includes PFC, Axis Bank, UCO Bank, Life Insurance Corporation of India, Bank of India, Central Bank of India, State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Canara Bank, United Bank of India, Syndicate Bank and REC Ltd.
 The lenders would be issued 80,57,24,169 equity shares of face value Rs 10 each of the company.
 Lender would also be issued 0.001 per cent, 37.69 crore optionally convertible cumulative redeemable preference shares of face value Rs 10 each.
 The company will also issue 0.001 per cent, 25 crore redeemable preference shares of face value Rs 10 each.
 The company will issue 0.001 per cent, 80,57,24,169 compulsorily convertible debentures of face value Rs 10 each, convertible into an equivalent number of fully paid up equity shares of face value Rs 10 to promoters' entity RR Infralands.
 After issuance and allotment of the equity and preference shares as aforesaid, the paid-up share capital of the company stands increased to Rs 4385.57 crore divided into 375.86 crore equity shares of face value Rs 10 each and 62.69 crore preference shares of Rs 10 each. KKS ABM

RattanIndia Power board approves issuance of securities to lenders, promoters to pare debt

New Delhi, Dec 30 () Private power producer RattanIndia Power on Monday said it has closed one-time settlement of Rs 6,574 crore debt raised from a consortium of lenders led by SBI and PFC. 
 Under the settlement deal, existing lenders have assigned the principal debt to new investors and lenders, including Goldman Sachs and Varde Partners.
 "These existing lenders have assigned the existing principal debt of about Rs 6,574 crore to a set of new investors and lenders, led by marquee foreign funds like Goldman Sachs and Varde Partners (through the Aditya Birla ARC Limited) for Rs 4,050 crore," the company said in a statement.
 The company claimed that this is the first successful scheme to have been closed under the RBI's Prudential Framework for resolution of Stressed Assets of June 7, 2019, and the largest in terms of size outside the NCLT framework attracting global investors without any change in the existing management.
 The debt resolution comes in the backdrop of significant sectoral challenges that the Indian power sector has been undergoing in terms of dealing with stressed and non-performing assets. 
 The OTS process was done through an open, transparent through a global Swiss challenge auction process. 
 While KPMG was the exclusive financial advisor to the transaction, Khaitan &amp; Co advised on all legal related matters. 
 This first of its kind transaction in which foreign investors have replaced Indian lenders through a process of resolution outside the NCLT framework has opened new doors for fresh capital to flow into the distressed Indian power sector, it said.
 While most deals in the power sector, resolved under the NCLT framework in the past have been settled at Rs 1.2 crore to 1.5 crore per MW, this transaction closed at Rs 3 crore per MW has unlocked greater value and win-win for all stakeholders, the company said.
 RattanIndia Power, currently owns two coal based power plants in Maharashtra with an aggregate capacity of 2.700MW comprising of 1,350MW each at Amravati and Nashik. KKS

Mukesh Ambani sets sights on defence – showcases Made in India software for aircraft design

New Delhi, Feb 25 () Private equity and venture capital (PE/VC) inflows started 2020 on a strong note as the month of January recorded investments worth USD 2.5 billion up 34 per cent over the year-ago period, a report said on Tuesday. According to the IVCA-EY monthly PE/VC roundup, PE/VC investments in January 2020 (USD 2.5 billion) were 34 per cent higher than the value recorded in January 2019 (USD 1.9 billion) and 41 per cent lower compared to December 2019 (USD 4.3 billion). In terms of number of PE/VC investments January 2020 was at par with January 2019. "After a record setting 2019, PE/VC investments in 2020 are off to a good start with investments worth USD 2.5 billion recorded in January 2020. Infrastructure sector continues to play a big role in this growth, accounting for 36 per cent of all PE/VC investments during the month," said Vivek Soni, Partner and National Leader - Private Equity Services, EY. Credit investments are also a fast-emerging asset class for PE/VC as investors cherry picked stressed opportunities thrown up by companies that need support to prevent going into National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). With a more enabling regulatory and policy framework in place, credit investments witnessed a good start in January 2020, the report said. There were five large deals (value greater than USD 100 million) worth USD 1.4 billion in January 2020 compared to four deals worth USD 1.1 billion last year. The largest deal announced in January saw Goldman Sachs and Varde Partners take over the debt of RattanIndia Power Limited for USD 566 million followed by Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), Allianz Capital Partners and Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System's (OMERS') USD 246 million investment in IndInfravit Trust. From a sector point of view, infrastructure sector (USD 898 million across five deals) was the top sector in January 2020, followed by financial services (USD 531 million across 14 deals) and e-commerce (USD 264 million across nine deals). The report further noted that January 2020 recorded 12 exits worth USD 461 million, 39 per cent higher than the value of exits recorded in January 2019 (USD 331 million) but 47 per cent lower than December 2019 (USD 864 million). The largest exit in January 2020 saw Nexus India Capital Advisors, Jungle Ventures and Naspers sell their combined stake in Paysense Services India Private Limited to PayU Corporate for USD 293 million.
