Ratan Tata-backed energy distribution startup <keyword id="1598562" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="repos" source="Orion">Repos</keyword> is expected to grow by close to three-fold to Rs 185 crore in the current fiscal on account of increased traction for its service among business-to-business clients, a top official of the firm said. <keyword id="8449067" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="repos-energy" source="Orion">Repos Energy</keyword> founder and CVO Aditi Bhosale Walunj told PTI at the Auto Expo 2023 that the company is in the process of raising Rs 300 crore to fund expansion of business across India as well as a platform to offer carbon-neutral fuels such as ethanol and electric vehicle chargers. "We have been fortunate enough to have Mr Ratan Tata as our initial investor. Last fiscal year we did business of Rs 65 crore. Our business has been growing multifold. This fiscal we expect our top line to be around Rs 185 crore," Walunj said. She said that the company's fuel distribution platform is mainly built around the delivery of diesel but it is now adding new fuels to the platforms to make it available at the doorsteps of end consumers with the help of technology. "Like ATMs, we are providing mobile fuel stations. It is helpful for enterprises to get fuel at the doorstep, check fuel theft, monitor fuel consumption etc. We are now present in 280 cities across India where we have deployed over 2,000 mobile fuel stations. Now we are in the process of raising Rs 300 crore which we will use to further expand our presence and develop technology for the distribution of carbon neutral fuels," Walunj said. Repos recently onboarded management expert Ram Charan on its advisory board for mentoring the company towards growth path. Ratan Tata-backed Repos expects to grow three-fold this fiscal to ₹185 cr; raise ₹300 cr

Mumbai, May 7 () Ratan Tata, who has pumped in hundreds of crores of rupees into start-ups since his retirement from the Tata Group, has invested an undisclosed amount in a 17-year-old kid's pharma start-up Generic Aadhaar, in his personal capacity. Generic Aadhaar was founded by the Thane kid, Arjun Deshpande, in April 2019, when he was 16. It supplies quality generic drugs from reputed manufacturers at up to 80 per cent lesser cost and other medicines 20-30 per cent cheaper. The boy, an alumni of DAV Public School, Thane, began his entrepreneurial journey with the aim of bringing affordable medicines to the poor, a statement issued by his PR agency said on Thursday. It did not disclose how much Tata has invested. The chairman emeritus of Tata Sons has so far invested in over a dozen start-ups since he retired from the group in December 2012 and all his investments are routed through his investment company RNT Associates. Some of his investments include Ola, Paytm, Snapdeal, CureFit, Urban Ladder and Avanti Finance. Generic Aadhaar sources generic drugs directly from manufacturers and sells it to retailers, eliminating 16-20 per cent wholesaler margins. The start-up boasts of an annual revenue of Rs 6 crore and is looking at a revenue of Rs 150-200 crore in the next three years, the statement said. It also claimed to have employed about 55 persons, including pharmacists, IT engineers and marketing professionals. Deshpande plans to partner with 1,000 pharmacies on a franchisee-based model and expand his reach to Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Andhra, Delhi, Goa and Rajasthan. Generic Aadhaar will provide all the support to the unorganised sector by bringing the right technology, IT infrastructure and branding to the forefront. "Our business model gives us an edge over others as we aim to bring affordable healthcare to millions. Our mission is to provide senior citizens and pensioner the care they deserve by delivering inexpensive medicines," says Deshpande. Currently, it supplies diabetes and hypertension drugs but will soon start offering cancer drugs also at rates lower than the market price and has also tied up with four WHO-GMP certified manufacturers at Palghar, Ahmedabad, Puducherry and Nagpur. It provides quality and affordable medicines directly from WHO-GMP facility and has tied up with 30 retailers from Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Odisha following a profit-sharing model. "Tata got impressed with our business plan and decided to be a part of this mission in a personal capacity and help Generic Aadhaar to reach more and more poor people," Arjun Deshpande, founder and chief executive officer of the start-up, said. A unicorn, in startup parlance, is a private company that is valued at or over $1 billion. Moglix, founded by Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Kanpur and Indian School of Business (ISB) graduate Rahul Garg in 2015, is an e-commerce platform, which provides solutions to more than 500,000 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and over 1000 large manufacturers across India and the UAE. It has a supply chain network of over 16,000 suppliers and over 40 warehouses. The company, which also recently crossed $100 million disbursal rate on its supply chain financing platform Credlix, works with manufacturing and infrastructure companies to transform their end-to-end supply chain, from procurement to distribution. Moglix more than doubles its valuation in nine months

However, Urban Ladder has clarified that the incident happened 3 months ago. "As an organization, February and March were not easy months for us, as we are a company that deeply appreciates its employees. Having said that, after taking those tough calls, we are happy to know that the employees we did part ways with have used Urban Ladder as a great stepping stone to pursue other, great opportunities within the industry and beyond. We look forward to the future as we have some exciting things in store in the upcoming few months,” said Goel. According to the official statement from the company, in February/March, 90 employees (from the head office in Bengaluru) had been let go from the organization. The previous total headcount number was 957 and now is 711 which amounts to about 25% and it also includes third party employees and resources. The startup had been looking to raise funds for the longest time but had been unable to do so. <a href="https://entrackr.com/2019/06/urbanladder-400-employee-layoff-profitability/">Reports</a> also say that Urban Ladder’s losses although reduced from last year, were still a significant amount. Its losses were ₹4.59 billion in 2016-17 and ₹1.17 billion in 2017-18. The news comes as a surprise one as Urban Ladder had successfully raised funding in the past. Urban Ladder had to let go 90 employees to be back on track for growth

Ola’s investors back its electric company – Ola Electric – welcome it to the unicorn club

Mumbai, Jan 28 () Industrialist Ratan Tata on Tuesday warned that start-ups which burn investors' money and disappear will not get a second or a third chance.
 Tata, who also invests in start-ups, also said old-age businesses will recede and the young founders of innovative companies are the future leaders of the Indian industry.
 The comments from Tata come at a time when many start-ups have been blamed for what is termed as "cash burn", wherein the optimism of making money in the future makes venture funds to invest in such companies, and the companies keep incurring losses. At its peak, e-commerce major Flipkart was reportedly burning USD 150 million a month.
 "We will have start-ups which will attract attention, collect money and disappear. Such start-ups will not get a second or a third chance," Tata, who was feted with the lifetime achievement award at the TiECON awards here, said.
 Tata, whose portfolio also consists of e-commerce company Snapdeal, exhorted businesses to conduct themselves ethically and not to be "fly-by-night" operators.
 He said the start-ups require mentoring, advice, networking and also recognition, and welcomed the role played by TiE, an organisation that seeks to promote the start-up ecosystem in India.
 Tata also urged TiE to work as a shadow regulator for ethics and good practices, and ensure that the start-up sector grows in a manner that it should.
