Kathmandu, Cinema halls across Kathmandu on Friday stopped the screening of '<keyword id="9776044" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="adipurush" source="Orion">Adipurush</keyword>', a day after Mayor Balen Shah warned that no Indian movie will be allowed in the Nepal capital if the film based on the Hindu epic <keyword id="6363500" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ramayana" source="Orion">Ramayana</keyword> does not correct the "mistake" about the birthplace of Sita. The <keyword id="17720608" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nepal-film-union" source="Orion">Nepal Film Union</keyword> has urged all the cinema halls in Kathmandu to stop showing 'Adipurush' and urged theatres outside the capital to release it only after assessing the security situation. In a tweet on Thursday, the Mayor said that in 'Adipurush', it is mentioned that "Sita is the daughter of India". He added that until this mistake will not be corrected in India and Nepal, no Indian movie will be allowed to be shown within the Kathmandu metropolitan city limit. The film is written and directed by <keyword id="2236748" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="om-raut" source="Orion">Om Raut</keyword> and produced by T-Series and Retrophiles. Shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu languages, the film has courted controversy in India as well. In a statement, Nepal's QFX Cinemas said: "Keeping the security of our viewers, QFX is not going to show 'Adipurush'... We are waiting for the government's decision. As soon as this issue is resolved, we will issue another notice and apologise for the inconvenience to our viewers." Nepal's Censor Board also decided to hold back permission to the upcoming Indian epic mythological film, based on the Hindu epic "Ramayana", for the same reason. Sita was born in Nepal's Janakpur and Lord Rama came and married her, as per the Ramayana. Besides Mayor Balen Shah, some sister organisations of various political parties have also protested against the film and warned that they will not allow the screening until the filmmakers correct the mistakes regarding the birthplace of Sita. This is not the first time that Mayor Shah ratcheted up the nationalist planks. Mayor Shah on June 8 placed the map of Greater Nepal in his chamber to counter the Indian "Akhand Bharat" map placed in the new Parliament building. "The big-budgeted visual feast 'Adipurush' tells the tale of a prince on a mission to rescue his wife from a ten-headed demon overlord," it read. Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon" will be screened as part of the film's 50th anniversary. The runtime of the "action drama", written by Raut and Manoj Muntashir Shukla, is 174 minutes. "Adipurush" is produced by T-Series' Bhushan Kumar, Krishna Kumar, Raut, Prasad Sutar, and Rajesh Nair. The film courted controversy, including boycott calls, last year when the teaser of the magnum opus was launched in Oactober over the depiction of Hindu deities and inferior quality of visual effects. 'Adipurush' set for world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival 2023

Indian scientists embarrassed after academics at a national science event made bizarre claims like ancient Hindus invented stem cell research

Yes, Hindu hardliner and newly appointed <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=yogi+adityanath&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath</a> did not surprise anyone with his move as he cleared 20 acres of land for construction of Ramayana museum in Ayodhya.  As per various reports, the Ramayana museum in Ayodhya will cost Rs 154 crore and will be a part of the <keyword id="980432" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ramayana-circuit">Ramayana Circuit</keyword> for which the Modi government has sanctioned Rs 225 crore, with Rs 151 crore exclusively for Ayodhya, which is the hub of the circuit. 
 
The move to build a museum also comes after the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=supreme+court&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Supreme Court</a> advised an out of court settlement for Ayodhya Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute. 
 
The Modi government had increased the Ramayana museum grant from Rs. 175 crore to Rs. 225 crore so that a state of the art museum can come up in the ancient town celebrated in Hindu epics as the seat of Lord Rama’s birthplace and kingdom. 
Sources told Times Now the formalities will be completed within the next seven to ten days. 
 
The Government is planning to complete the construction of the Ramayana museum within 18 months. 
 The decision to build the museum had triggered a fierce political battle then, with the <keyword id="6354265" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="samajwadi-party">Samajwadi Party</keyword> simultaneously announcing that it will construct a Ramlila Park in Ayodhya.

There’s an unusual connection between India’s Balakot mission and Sri Lanka’s first ever satellite — the epic Hindu Mythology, Ramayana

The politically charged town of <keyword id="6354931" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ayodhya">Ayodhya</keyword> in Uttar Pradesh would have a state of-the-art Ram museum to promote <keyword id="6363500" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="ramayana">Ramayana</keyword>. <keyword id="6358079" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Tourism-Minister">Tourism Minister</keyword> <keyword id="210147" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mahesh-Sharma">Mahesh Sharma</keyword> told the Economic Times that the <keyword id="6360789" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Modi-Government">Modi government</keyword> is coming up with the museum, which would be part of the proposed 'Ramayana circuit'. Fortunately, the ‘disputed site’, the reason for all the battles, would not be touched by the project. "This will be an exclusive museum which will be part of a larger holistic plan. The idea is to depict the mahima (grandeur) of <keyword id="353792" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Lord-Ram">Lord Ram</keyword> and Ramayana," Sharma said. "It is on high priority and the scale will depend on funds available. We will do this next year." The museum would be build on the model of the Swaminarayan <keyword id="76721" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Akshardham-Temple">Akshardham temple</keyword> in Delhi - which features a sound and light show, boat ride and a film on Swaminarayan - and house archaeological material related to the deity. 

	The minister said work would soon begin on the detailed project report. 
 

	In order to again turn Ayodhya into a major cultural hub, the Modi government plans to develop all sites related to Lord Ram in and around the town.. When asked about the political ramifications, the minister said that the museum may reach the state of completion in 2017, a time when UP elections are due. He added, "Tourism we can develop. We are not saying we are going to make a Ram mandir there."
 

	The tourism minister further stated that the government is already working on a chain of five circuits. "For every year we will declare a different circuit. Ramayana circuit will start with the centre somewhere in Ayodhya and Chitrakoot and definitely we go to Makohda in Basti, then Janaki kund in Unnao and nearby areas and places relevant to the life of Ram...that is our idea," he said. 
 

	The Centre would also host what it calls are cultural activities revolving around Ram and Ramayana at events abroad, including festivals and travel marts. According to officials of the Tourism Ministry, the government has already asked Uttar Pradesh to send a proposal for the project under the Centre's Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spirituality Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) scheme. 
 

	"We have requested the state government to develop the proposal under the PRASAD scheme. Cost estimates are open-ended as of now and depend on the outline and scale of the proposal. This is actually an inter-state project as well so we will talk to other states as well," Tourism Secretary Lalit Pawar said. Rakesh Tiwari, director-general of Archaeological Survey of India (<keyword id="46215" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="ASI">ASI</keyword>), said that discussions on the Ramayana circuit are still at a preliminary stage and the ASI would help the tourism ministry with all related inputs. 

	"We will help develop the circuit in whichever way the government asks us to. Cultural bodies are also going to be roped in to bring alive the folklore and legends associated with Ramayana," said Tiwari.

Not a temple, but a hi-tech Ram museum is coming up in Ayodhya

A Delhi court on Monday sent Chief Minister <keyword id="19901384" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="arvind-kejriwal" source="keywords">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword> to <keyword id="6358969" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="judicial-custody" source="Orion">judicial custody</keyword> till April 15, while the AAP supremo moved an application to have three books -- Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana and How Prime Ministers Decide. He was produced before Special <keyword id="21152631" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Judge-Kaweri-Baweja" source="Orion">Judge Kaweri Baweja</keyword> of the Rouse Avenue Court on the expiry of his previously extended <keyword id="6357808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Enforcement-Directorate" source="Orion">Enforcement Directorate</keyword> (ED) custody in connection with the money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam. On March 28, Judge Baweja had extended his ED custody, holding that there were "sufficient reasons". However, she had allowed him to meet his family members and lawyers. On Monday, the CM was produced amid heavy security while counsel for both ED and <keyword id="19919267" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cm-kejriwal" source="keywords">CM Kejriwal</keyword> made submissions virtually. Senior Advocates Vikram Chaudhary and Ramesh Gupta appeared for him and Additional Solicitor General (ASG) S.V. Raju for the probe agency. Seeking his judicial custody, ASG Raju said "we (ED) seek his judicial custody and no more ED remand". Alleging the same as it had alleged last time, the ED said: "He (<keyword id="19895701" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="kejriwal" source="keywords">Kejriwal</keyword>) is non-cooperative and is giving evasive replies." The ASG made another similar submission as last time saying that CM Kejriwal isn't giving password to his phone. The court was told by ASG that the ED might seek his custody later. After a brief hearing, the judge sent CM Kejriwal to judicial custody till April 15. The accused has also moved an application to be provided with a special diet, medicines, books and religious locket which he wore while being in custody. Earlier, the probe agency had sought the Chief Minister's custody for seven more days. However, after hearing the arguments, the court had extended the AAP supremo's ED remand by four days till April 1, observing that there appear to be "sufficient reasons" to permit his further custodial interrogation, particularly keeping in view the submissions of the ED. The probe agency had submitted that he is required to be confronted with the material collected and statements recorded so far in the course of the investigation. The court had directed the investigation officer to ensure that further interrogation and confrontation, etc., of the accused is done without any delay. Judge Baweja had allowed CM Kejriwal to meet his family members, including his wife, daughter, PA and advocates. Moreover, the court had directed the agency to conduct the interrogation at a place with CCTV coverage and for the preservation of the footage. The ED was also asked to provide the requisite medication to CM Kejriwal and get him medically examined in accordance with the law during the period of his custody. The ED arrested CM Kejriwal on March 21 after questioning him for over two hours at his official residence in Delhi. The ED has termed CM Kejriwal the "kingpin and the key conspirator" of the alleged excise scam in collusion with other ministers of the Delhi government, AAP leaders, and other persons.

The 1.46-minute teaser of the movie, directed by Om Raut of "Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior" fame, was launched on Sunday in Ayodhya. And the blowback was immediate. Fronted by "Baahubali" star <keyword id="104063" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="prabhas" source="Orion">Prabhas</keyword> who features in the title role as Lord Ram, the multilingual period saga sees <keyword id="333" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="saif-ali-khan" source="Orion">Saif Ali Khan</keyword> play the role of a 10-headed demon king called Lankesh. With a beard, fierce eyes and a buzz cut, this Lankesh seems barbarism personified and many called out the filmmakers for the apparent Islamisation of Ravana. The portrayal of Hanuman, with a beard, without a moustache and dressed in leather, also attracted criticism. As hashtags like #BoycottAdipurush and #BanAdipurush gained speed, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra on Tuesday warned the makers of the film of legal action if scenes showing Hindu religious figures in the "wrong" way were not removed. "I have seen the teaser of 'Adipurush'. There are objectionable scenes in it," Mishra, who is also the spokesperson of the state government, told reporters in Bhopal. The dresses and look of Hindu deities as seen in the trailer were not acceptable, he said. "Hanuman ji is shown wearing leather, whereas the description (in the scriptures) of the deity's costume is different... These are scenes that hurt religious sentiments. I am writing a letter to Om Raut to remove all such scenes from the film. If not removed, we will consider legal action," Mishra said. Echoing the minister's sentiments, a Twitter user wrote, "Ram and lakshamna wore khadau not leather shoes like the desert civilization people did. Nonsense movie." Director Raut said he is "disheartened" by the reaction to the teaser. "I was disheartened but not surprised because the film is made for a larger medium. You can cut it down to some extent, but can't bring it down to a mobile phone, that's an environment I can't control. "If given a choice, I had never put it on YouTube but that's the need of the hour. We need to put it there so that it reaches a wide audience," Raut told reporters at the media preview of film's 3D trailer on Tuesday. Producer Bhushan Kumar was unavailable for comment despite several attempts by PTI to reach out to him. Many on social media said they were appalled over Saif's appearance as a maniacal Lankesh, saying his look was inspired by Mughal rulers. Some said it bore resemblance to Ranveer Singh's portrayal of Alauddin <keyword id="987836" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="khilji" source="Orion">Khilji</keyword> from Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film "Padmaavat", which came under attack for caricaturing Khilji, complete with kohl lined eyes and viciously attack a hunk of meat. "The makers should have done more research on Ravana. Saif Ali Khan's expressions look absolutely pathetic. Ravana was not a psycho. Saif is acting like he is portraying khilji from padmavat. Mythological movies absolutely need better character understanding (sic)," said a Twitter user. "He (Saif) is looking more like Babar or Aurangzeb or Taimur but certainly not Raavan," added another. The VFX, said others, was a huge letdown for a film that reportedly has a budget of ₹ 500 crore, making it one of the most expensive Indian films ever made. A section of social media seemed both amused and disappointed (#disappointed was trending on Twitter) about the quality of its computer-generated imagery. Generally an expensive affair, CGI is used to create fantastical visual effects in films. "Bruh this is Jaani Dushman levels of CGI. #AdipurushTeaser," said a Twitter post drawing comparison with the 2002 supernatural action thriller film which has attained cult status over the years as a cringe watch. A specific scene from the teaser where Saif's Lankesh is seen mounted on a bat-like mythical creature with huge flapping wings prompted some people to draw comparisons with "Game of Thrones", the hit American fantasy TV drama famous for its dragons. "Is it just me or do you also notice the pathetic copy of #GameOfThrones that #Adipurush is! The characters are definitely NOT of #Bharat...," said one post. Another scene recalled for some the American blockbuster sci-fi film series "Planet of the Apes". "Copy cat #OmRaut #Adipurush #DisappointingAdipurish," said a user as he put the clips of the promotional materials of the two films. Many shared stills from "Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama", the 1993 animated film which was a Japan-India co-production. Directed by Japanese filmmaker <keyword id="15168281" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="yugo-sako" source="Orion">Yugo Sako</keyword>, it became a favourite of the 1990s generation kids who watched it several times on TV channels during re-runs. "#Adipurush had the golden chance to present us a film on the subject which is dear to everyone but sadly even with the colossal budget and modern technology it couldn't match even 1% of yugo sako's Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama," wrote a Twitter user. This is not the first time Saif has been in trouble for "Adipurush". In an interview to a newspaper in 2020, Saif had said the version of Raavan in "Adipurush" will be "humane". His remarks caused a stir in the not-so-virtual world of social media and the actor issued an apology for his comments, saying it was never his intention to hurt people's sentiments. "I've been made aware that one of my statements during an interview has caused a controversy and hurt people's sentiments. This was never my intention or meant that way. I would like to sincerely apologise to everybody and withdraw my statement," the actor had then said in a statement. The movie, based on the mythological epic Ramayana, is expected to bring in opening day collections of ₹50-60 crore for the dubbed versions. The Hindi original is also expected to clock in ₹20 crore, predicts a research report by Elara Capital. As <a href="https://www.dnaindia.com/bollywood/report-adipurush-overseas-advance-booking-bulldozes-past-rs-6-crore-mark-prabhas-om-raut-kriti-sanon-saif-ali-khan-3047559">per media reports</a>, its advance bookings have been creating buzz, especially in overseas markets like Canada and Australia. If it’s able to manage a good opening, this big budget movie will be able to breach the ₹350- crore lifetime earnings mark – unlike Prabhas’ earlier movies Saaho and Radhe Shyam whose collections at ₹280 crore and ₹150 crore, respectively, were way below expectations “The film may surpass our estimates based on good content and word-of-mouth. Ticket prices are expected to be premium, around 20% higher than the average ticket prices on a pan-India level,” says Karan Taurani and Rounak Roy of Elara Capital. Adipurush will be released across India on June 16 in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. It also stars Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon, and is directed by Om Raut who had delivered the superhit movie, Tanaji. Small budget films not bringing in the moolah In spite of a few recent hits like Pathaan, The Kerala Story, Kantara and more, movie theatres have been struggling to bring back footfalls to match the pre-Covid levels. “Small and medium budget films continue to struggle as frequency of content becoming successful has dropped sharply in the North and South circuits,” the research report from Elara, which tracks PVR, says. Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan's latest release Zara Hatke Zara Bachke has minted ₹37.4 crore in its first week, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The movie, directed by Laxman Utekar, saw a decent opening, garnering ₹5.49 crore on the first day of its release. In spite of the positive surprise that the movie delivered, Elara believes that the momentum was driven by the Buy-One-Get-One-Free (BOGO) offer. It reduces distributor-producer share to approximately 30% from 50% earlier. “It makes film production economics unviable; while it is a good promotional activity to propel audiences back into the cinema halls to drive frequency, good and consistent content is the only big driver for improved occupancy levels,” say Taurani and Roy in their note. A slow start to FY24 The first quarter of FY24 has gotten off to a slow start in terms of box office, with no surprises except for The Kerala Story and Hollywood movie, Fast X. Hindi film box office collections for the first quarter are expected to be 20% lower than what they were pre-Covid. As compared to the same quarter last year, the drop is expected to be sharper at 30%, the research firm predicts. For context, the same time last year had hit movies like Rajamouli’s RRR, Karthik Aryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Yash’s KGF 2. The second quarter of FY24 is expected to see many big movie releases like Karthik Aryan’s Satyaprem, Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, Ranveer Singh’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani, Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2, Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal and Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. “Q2FY24 may be the best quarter even if half of these films report a healthy box office collection. Woes persist for exhibitors as Hindi content recovery is important to drive advertising growth, which remains under pressure,” the Elara report opines. The number of Hindi films lined up for release however remains lower than pre-Covid levels — by 30-35%.

Now it will hit the theatres on June 16, 2023. The film stars Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan in the lead roles. The film is based on the Indian Epic Ramayana. Prabhas plays Lord Ram while Saif stars as the antagonist Lankesh in the movie. The film has been mired in controversy ever since its teaser was unveiled. The teaser courted major backlash over the looks of Saif's fierce Ravana who is shown sporting a beard and a buzz cut.
