Private equity fund Chryscapital on Thursday announced a USD 100 million investment in eyewear company <keyword id="1518229" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="lenskart" source="Orion">Lenskart</keyword>. The investment at an undisclosed valuation is through a mix of primary and secondary share purchases, a statement said. It takes the overall investments or commitments by the PE fund into India to USD 850 million, the statement added. Lenskart, which has 20 million customers, is also expanding internationally across Asia and the Middle East, it said. The company is undergoing a "vertical integration" exercise with a new manufacturing facility that will help it keep prices competitive and aid in delivery time, it said. New Delhi, Nov 19 () Battling the surge in coronavirus cases in Delhi on a war-footing, the AAP government on Thursday announced sweeping measures including a steep Rs 2,000 fine for not wearing masks, reservation of 80 per cent ICU beds in private hospitals, doubling testing centres in every district and postponement of non-critical surgeries at health facilities. Private hospitals have also been directed to increase the percentage of non-ICU COVID-19 beds from 50 per cent to 60 per cent. The government will increase the number of RT-PCR test to 27,000 a day in the national capital and MBBS students and interns will be engaged to tackle the COVID-19 situation. Addressing an online media briefing, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the fine for not wearing masks has been raised from Rs 500 to Rs 2,000. The hard line by the AAP government comes days after Kejriwal repeatedly appealed to Delhiites to wear masks amid a surge in coronavirus cases. He announced the slew of measures after meeting Lt Governor Anil Baijal and apprising him about the decisions taken by <keyword id="3162571" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Aam-Aadmi-Party">the Aam Aadmi Party</keyword> government. Arrangements are being made for over 1,400 ICU beds, including 663 in Delhi government hospitals and 750 at a central government facility, Kejriwal said, adding around 7,500 normal and 446 ICU beds are currently available for COVID-19 patients in Delhi. "From today we have implemented the decision to reserve 80 percent ICU beds in all private hospitals for COVID-19 patients. It will increase ICU bed availability by 300-400 for coronavirus patients in Delhi hospitals." The percentage of normal, non-ICU beds reserved in private hospitals for corona patients, are being increased from 50 per cent to 60 per cent till the peak of the pandemic is there, he said. Hospitals have also been asked to postpone non-critical planned surgeries for the time being, he added. The national capital has witnessed a spurt in coronavirus cases since October 28, when the daily rise breached the 5,000-mark for the first time, and it crossed the 8,000-mark on November 11. On Wednesday, the infection tally in Delhi rose to over 5 lakh with 7,486 fresh cases reported, while 131 new fatalities, the highest single-day death count till date, took the toll to 7,943. According to Kejriwal, he received assurance of cooperation from various political parties at an all-party meeting on the COVID-19 situation in Delhi. He said that he urged them to distribute face masks to save people from the infection. Kejriwal also appealed to the people not to celebrate Chhath puja at ponds and other water bodies, saying it could cause a widespread infection. "Even if one COVID-19 infected person enters the water during Chhath Puja, all others might get infected by the virus," he said, adding his government is being forced to restrict Chhath Puja celebrations at river banks, ponds and other public places due to the threat of the infection. Lauded doctors and government employees for COVID-19 management in Delhi, he said, "I want to thank all the doctors and employees of the government for their hard work and a well thought out COVID-19 management that was seen not even in advanced countries and big cities." Meanwhile, the Delhi government directed all district magistrates to take steps to double the number of testing centres in their respective districts immediately. The order issued by the Delhi health department also said that manpower required for the new testing centres "may be hired from open market, if required". It has been observed that the number of COVID-19 cases are increasing in Delhi and "to ensure early detection and subsequent isolation of the COVID-19 infected patients, it is felt necessary to enhance the COVID-19 testing capacity", the order said. Authorities in the city have allowed all coronavirus facilities of the government here to engage MBBS students in fourth and fifth years, interns and others to assist doctors on duty at a fixed honorarium. Meanwhile, the number of available ICU beds equipped with ventilators is shrinking fast at several hospitals here, with zero vacancy at nearly 60 facilities. According to the online Corona dashboard of the Delhi government at 12:30 pm on Thursday, only 131 COVID-19 ICU beds were available out of 1,362 such beds at various facilities here. New Delhi, May 16 () The death toll due to coronavirus in Delhi rose to 129 and the total number of cases in the national capital climbed to 9,333 on Saturday, authorities said.On Thursday, the city had recorded 472 fresh cases, the highest single-day spike.In a bulletin issued on Saturday, the Delhi Health Department said with six more fatalities reported, the death toll from coronavirus infection has risen to 129.It, however, said the cumulative death figures refers to fatalities where the primary cause of death was found to be COVID-19, as per the report of the Death Audit Committee on the basis of case sheets received from various hospitals.On Friday, the total number of cases stood at 8,895, including 123 deaths. With 438 fresh cases, the total number of coronavirus cases in Delhi has mounted to 9,333.Of the total number of deceased patients, 62 were aged 60 and above, accounting for over 50 per cent of the fatalities here.Thirty-five of them were aged between 50-59 years and 26 were less than 50 years, the bulletin said.Facing criticism for "under reporting" COVID-19 deaths, the Delhi government on Sunday issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) for hospitals and other health facilities in the city on reporting fatalities due to coronavirus.A total of 3,518 patients have recovered so far, while there are 5,254 active cases, the Delhi health department said.Meanwhile, two more private hospitals have been declared as COVID hospitals for admitting positive or suspected cases of coronavirus infection on a payment basis, it said.The two hospitals are -- Batra Hospital and Research Centre, Tughlakabad (50 isolation beds) and Cygnus Orthocare Hospital, Safdarjung Development Area (40 isolation beds), according to an order issued on Saturday by the Delhi health department.A total of 1,30,845 COVID-19 tests have been conducted till date, it said.The total number of COVID-19 patients under home isolation stands at 1,983, it said.According to the Delhi Health Department bulletin, out of the total 9,333 cases recorded so far, at least 1,758 are admitted at various hospitals like LNJP Hospital, RML Hospital, Safdarjung Hospital and Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital (RGSSH) and AIIMS Jhajjhar, adding 155 of them are in ICU and 26 on ventilators. JPMorgan is now forecasting an all-out trade war between China and the US - and it could cause havoc for Chinese stocks

(Eds: Adds more details, combines related stories) New Delhi, Apr 26 () Delhi on Sunday reported 293 fresh COVID-19 cases -- the second highest in a day -- taking the total tally in the city to 2,918, even as Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced the implementation of the MHA's guidelines on the opening of shops, but said the lockdown will not be relaxed beyond what the Centre has suggested. According to the health department, as many as 877 patients have been cured till now, while 54 have died of the disease. No fresh death has been reported in the last 24 hours. The first highest number of coronavirus cases being reported in a day was 356 on April 13. On Sunday, nineteen more staffers of Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital in North Delhi's Jahangir Puri area tested positive novel coronavirus, taking the total number of cases at the facility to 59. Till Saturday, the number of staffers affected by the virus stood at 40. According to a senior official, 68 more samples are yet to be tested. "The critically ill patients will remain in the hospital. The hospital management will take care of them," said North Delhi District Magistrate Deepak Shinde said. The hospital will be closed down for new patients for the next three days, an official said, adding all staff at the hospital will be screened for the COVID-19. The number of containment zones rose to 97 in the national capital, with new two such zones coming up on Sunday. Three mediapersons have also tested positive for coronavirus, sources said. They said among the infected persons, one is a freelance photographer while the two are camerapersons. Recently, the Delhi government had set up a testing centre where hundreds of mediapersons underwent COVID-19 test. Addressing an online media briefing on Sunday, Kejriwal said, "We are going through difficult times. We will have to continue our efforts to reduce the number of COVID-19 infections in Delhi." He said his government was implementing the Centre's guidelines on opening of neighbourhood and stand-alone shops during the lockdown till May 3. No markets and malls will be allowed to open in the national capital and all shops in COVID-19 containment zones will remain shut, the chief minister added. "The Delhi government will maintain status quo and will not relax lockdown restrictions till May 3, except those permitted by the Union home ministry," he said. Kejriwal said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that the nationwide lockdown would last till May 3, and added there was a need to see what decision the Union government takes on it. "We will decide our future course of action and set our direction once the Centre takes decision on whether ongoing lockdown be extended or not," he said. "If we must follow lockdown rules, we can get rid of coronavirus," he said. Late in the evening, Chief Secretary Vijay Dev issued an order, implementing the Ministry of Home Affair's guidelines and said that social distancing will be strictly followed. Deputy Commissioners of Police will ensure strict compliance of the order, Dev said. On Sunday, a staff member of Batra Hospital in South Delhi also tested positive for the virus. She was working in the pharmacy of the hospital. "Four family members are high risk contacts and one shopkeeper is a low risk contact. "We are putting high risk contacts under institutional quarantine and low risk contact under home quarantine. Testing for high risk has been done and the report is awaited," a official at the district administration said. Meanwhile, the Delhi government has launched an exercise to prepare a detailed plan for students of the city who are stranded abroad due to the coronavirus outbreak. Union Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba has asked all states and Union territories to furnish data on such students, they said, adding that the Centre would take the final call on a possible evacuation. Accordingly, Delhi Chief Secretary Vijay Dev has asked officials to prepare a list of students stranded abroad and suggest measures for screening and quarantine among others upon their return to the city, the sources told . "Delhi is also compiling its data of its students stranded abroad in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak in several counties," a source said. As three cases of coronavirus were reported from Azadpur Mandi (market), the Agricultural Produce Marketting Committee (APMC) on Sunday issued guidelines to regulate the movement of empty vehicles to prevent the spread of COVID-19. A DDA ground in Burari has been earmarked as the holding area for empty vehicles to reduce the traffic in and around the market, the committee's guidelines read. "All empty vehicles have to go to Burari ground and take a token before coming to the mandi," it said. A total of 3,300 tokens will be issued from 5 am to 9 pm everyday on first-come-first-serve basis. "300 tokens will be issued for the first slot – 5 am to 9 am. After that, 200 tokens will be issued every hour till 9 pm," the committee said. The Delhi Minorities Commission has demanded that Tablighi Jamaat members who are kept at quarantine camps in the city and have not tested positive for coronavirus be released, as they have completed twice the stipulated quarantine period of 14 days as COVID-19 suspects. In a letter to Delhi Health minister Satyendar Jain, commission chairman Zafarul Islam Khan and member Kartar Singh Kochhar also claimed that facilities for food and medicines at these camps were poor. PM Narendra <keyword id="6354642" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Modi">Modi</keyword> has met the contingent of Indian athletes who will be taking part in the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to wish them luck. 
 
A function was held at the Manekshaw Centre, where Modi individually met all the sportspersons, while wishing them good luck for the games which would be held from August 5th to 21st. 
 
Other dignitaries who attended the function were Sports Minister Jitendra Singh, Sports Secretary Rajiv Yadav, All India Council of Sports (AICS) Chairman Vijay Malhotra, Indian Olympic Association President N Ramachandran, Secretary General Rajeev Mehta, Hockey India President Narinder Batra, and HI Secretary General Mohammed Mushtaq Ahmed. 
 
This year, India’s contingent being sent to the Olympics is the largest ever, with more than 100 athletes having already qualified in 13 sporting disciplines. Last time, in 2012 London Olympics, the count was 83, while this year the count can go up to 110. 
 
Shooters Jitu Rai, Manavjit Singh Sandhu, and Heena Sidhu, shuttlers PV Sindhu and K Srikanth, boxer Shiva Thapa, long distance runners Sudha Singh and Lalita Babar were among the athletes that attended the function, along with the Indian women's hockey team. Along with the players, chief coach Neil Hawgood and coach C R Kumar (Hockey), Pullela Gopichand (Badminton) and Gurbax Singh Sandhu (Boxing) were also there. 
 
However, the function missed the presence of several Rio-qualified athletes who are currently training abroad.
