Indian Olympic Association (IOA) secretary-general <keyword id="150258" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajeev-Mehta">Rajeev Mehta</keyword> in a late-evening tweet on Friday wrote, "Indian Wrestling team's foreign assistant coach (Belarusian) Mr Murad Gaidarov who was involved in an uncalled incident of assault on one of the match referees, is being withdrawn from the Tokyo Olympic Village immediately and is being called back to India on the latest flight." Mehta added that, "Murad Gaidarov is removed from the Olympic Village and will be transported back to India on 10.30 flight from Tokyo." Confirming the incident to IANS, IOA treasurer Anandeshwar <keyword id="6361584" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="pandey">Pandey</keyword> told IANS from Tokyo that he was there at the venue when the incident took place on Thursday, adding that Gaidarov had yelled and misbehaved with the match referee during the bronze-medal contest between Punia and Myles Amine of San Marino, which the latter won 4-2. Pandey said that the match referee had lodged a formal complaint with the International Wrestling Federation, which in turn informed the Tokyo Games organisers and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), who issued a letter to the Indian contingent's chef de mission Birender Prasad Baishya. "The coach (Gaidarov) had lodged an appeal when Punia was trailing 2-3, but it was turned down and the opponent got an additional point, which resulted in the Indian wrestler losing by a 2-4 margin," said Pandey, adding that, following the bout there was an altercation with the match referee. "The IOC cancelled Gaidarov's accreditation and the chef de mission told him not to leave his hotel room and he was booked in the next flight out of Tokyo," Pandey told IANS. Asked if the IOA will take disciplinary action against the coach, Pandey said, the issue was between the <keyword id="110074" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wrestling-Federation-of-India">Wrestling Federation of India</keyword> and the foreign coach and that the IOA had nothing to do with it. Tokyo Olympics: Indian wrestler Deepak Punia's coach's accreditation cancelled for allegedly assaulting a match official

Indian Olympic Association is ‘dead serious’ about hosting Olympics in 2032, submits formal interest to bid

About 400 senior executives of <keyword id="28721" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cognizant">Cognizant</keyword> have accepted the company's voluntary separation package (VSP), a move that the US-based company said will help it save about $60 million annually, according to PTI news report. In May, the company had initiated a voluntary separation programme, offering up to nine months of salary as part of it to some of its top-level executives in the US and India. Cognizant has a significant chunk of its total 2.56 lakh workforce in India and it is estimated that of the 400 people who opted for the separation, a large number could be from India. However, the company did not disclose the number of Indian executives who have accepted the offer. "Of the $39 million of realignment charges, $35 million was for the roughly 400 associates who accepted our VSP. We expect approximately $60 million of annualised savings as a result of the VSP," Cognizant CFO <keyword id="943814" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="karen-mcloughlin">Karen McLoughlin</keyword> said at a recent investor call. She added that Cognizant expects to incur additional cost related to advisory fees, severance, lease termination, and facility consolidation costs in the remaining part of 2017. <keyword id="4060543" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="mcloughlin">McLoughlin</keyword> said the company has also made "good headway" in the June quarter driving utilisation rates higher by "slowing the pace of our hiring and improving resource alignment" to its re-skilling and multi-skilling programmes, reports PTI. She explained that these "adjustments" will help improve the company's profitability. Cognizant's overall headcount decreased by about 4,400 people at the end of June from March 2017 quarter, even though it had hired 10,800 people (gross) during the June quarter. "Our attrition level was higher than normal given reductions resulting from performance evaluations and the voluntary separation programme," McLoughlin said. She added that while the company will carefully manage headcount, it will continue to hire and invest in critical skills needed to grow Cognizant's digital business. The annualised attrition rate for Cognizant stood at 23.6 per cent, including BPO and trainees, during the June quarter from 17.1 per cent in the year-ago period. "... we expect attrition to decline in the coming months," she said. The over $13 billion-Cognizant has also raised the lower end of its revenue outlook for the year and now expects its topline to grow 9-10 per cent, instead of 8-10 per cent growth expected earlier. This confidence, it said, is based on the "strong first- half results" that were driven by robust growth in verticals like healhcare and digital services. Cognizant President <keyword id="150258" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajeev-mehta">Rajeev Mehta</keyword> said the company is investing "tens of millions of dollars" this year to continuously deepen and broaden skills in areas like analytics, artificial intelligence, data science, and digital security.

400 senior executives at Cognizant accept company's voluntary separation package

After reports of massive layoffs sparked at <keyword id="28721" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cognizant">Cognizant</keyword>, the company President Rajeev Mehta wrote to employees to quell concerns. 'Cognizant has not done any layoffs. Each year, in line with industry best practices, we conduct performance reviews to reflect on the work of last year and ensure goals for the subsequent year are clear. We are being committed to being a meritocracy. We believe that's good for all associates around the world,' he is believed gto have said in an email to employees. Notably, several employees alleged 'forced' termination as a result of which IT unions petitioned before labour dept in several states demanding a resolution on the matter. According to reports, over 6,000 employees in India have lost jobs even as the company has put in place a voluntary separation programme for mid to senior executives. The management has also denied speculations that such measures are being undertaken to allow more hiring in the US. 'We continue to hire in local markets around the world. We have been ramping up our recruiting efforts in US for a number of years and will continue to do so while hiring in most other parts of the world including India', the letter from Rajeev said. Mehta also advised employees to make the most of re-skilling programs that the company has in areas of Data science, Big Data, Machine learning and Adobe stack. Cognizant employs over 2,62,000 people globally of which over 1,50,000 are in India.

The probe led the company to appoint its IT Services Chief Executive <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=bribe&amp;sortorder=score">Rajeev Mehta</a> on September 28 as its President, a day after incumbent <keyword id="333490" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gordon-Coburn">Gordon Coburn</keyword> resigned on September 27. 
 "The investigation is being conducted under the oversight of the audit committee and is focused on a small number of company-owned facilities," <keyword id="28721" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cognizant">Cognizant</keyword> said in a regulatory filing with the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=bribe&amp;sortorder=score">US Securities and Exchange Commission </a>(<keyword id="6362470" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="SEC">SEC</keyword>). 
 The company has notified the <keyword id="99225" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Justice-Department">Justice Department</keyword> and the SEC and is cooperating with both agencies. 
 
"The internal investigation is in its early stages, and the company is not able to predict what, if any, action may be taken by the Justice Department, SEC or any governmental authority in connection with the investigation or the effect of the matter on the company's results, cash flows or financial position," it said in the filing. 
 <keyword id="6371425" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mehta">Mehta</keyword>, 49, who has been with the company since 1997, was Chief Executive of its IT Services since December 2013. 
 
"For the past decade, Mehta has been responsible for leading our market-facing teams in delivering industry-leading growth. He has a deep understanding of new technologies and new delivery models and their potential to transform businesses," said Cognizant Chief Executive Officer Francisco D'Souza in a statement. 
 
As Chief Executive of IT Services, Mehta was responsible for market-facing activities across the company. His prior roles include Group Chief Executive, Industries &amp; Markets, where he led its industry vertical and geographic market operations on a global basis. 
 
"I am honoured to assume this new role at an exciting time in Cognizant's history. Over the past year, we have designed and introduced a new operating model to support our strategic vision and growth," said Mehta in the statement. 
 Co-founded by Indian-origin Kumar <keyword id="83718" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mahadeva">Mahadeva</keyword> and D'Souza two decades ago, the Nasdaq listed $12.4-billion IT major has its largest software development centres in Chennai, <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword> and Hyderabad.

The executive board of the IOC, which made in Lausanne on Thursday, also decided not to recognise any "acting/interim president" after Narinder Batra's ouster as Indian Olymic Association president and said it will deal with secretary general Rajeev Mehta as the main point of contact. "... in view of the ongoing internal disputes, governance shortcomings and ongoing court cases, (IOC Executive Board) took the decision... to issue a final warning and consider the immediate suspension of the <keyword id="48949" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="noc" source="Orion">NOC</keyword> of India at the next IOC Executive Board meeting in December 2022 if, by then, the NOC of India is not able to address and resolve its governance issues to the satisfaction of the IOC, in the interest of sport and the athletes. "...and operate properly through its governing bodies, i.e. the Executive Committee and General Assembly, and fulfil its obligations, in particular by holding its quadrennial elections in accordance with the Olympic Charter," the IOC's letter sent to IOA read. The IOC letter sent by James McLeod, Director of <keyword id="3439289" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="olympic-solidarity" source="Orion">Olympic Solidarity</keyword> and NOC Relations, further said: "During this transition period, and given that the IOC does not currently recognise any 'interim/acting president' of the NOC of India, the NOC Secretary General will serve as the main point of contact to coordinate the next steps with the IOC, in close consultation and in agreement with the NOC Executive Council and General Assembly." The IOC also stated that it's Executive Board reserves the right to take any further action at any stage of the process depending on how the situation develops. The IOC also decided to postpone its session earlier scheduled to be held in Mumbai in May next year. "In view of the uncertain situation, the IOC Session that is due to take place in Mumbai in May 2023 is postponed until September/October 2023," the letter said. "Depending on the decisions that will be taken during the IOC Executive Board meeting in December 2022 relating to the NOC of India, the IOC Executive Board will decide as to whether the IOC Session in 2023 should be maintained in India or be relocated." The IOC said in order to agree on a constructive solution and establish a roadmap leading to the elections of IOA, it will organise a joint meeting with all parties concerned later this month in Lausanne. "In view of the above, we propose to organise a joint meeting on 27 September 2022 in Lausanne and my colleague J r me Poivey, Associate Director, <keyword id="5741540" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="noc-relations-department" source="Orion">NOC Relations Department</keyword>, will revert to you and all concerned parties accordingly for the details of this meeting," McLeod said. The IOC had also earlier threatened to suspend the IOA if it failed to conduct its election at the earliest. The IOA elections were due in December last year but could not be held due to amendments in the poll process. Last December, the IOA had formed a six-member committee to look into the amendments to be made to its constitution before holding elections so as to align it with the National Sports Code. In May this year, Batra was removed as IOA chief after the Delhi High Court struck down the post of 'life member' in Hockey India, through which he had contested and won the apex body elections in 2017. Batra later officially resigned as IOA President. As the news of <keyword id="28721" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cognizant">Cognizant</keyword> hiring more US professionals and reportedly firing 6,000 Indian employees in the current appraisal cycle spread, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=IT+professionals&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">IT professionals</a> from Chennai started seeking legal options and preparing for conciliation proceedings with the state labour department. However, Cognizant president Rajeev Mehta told ET categorically there is no retrenchment. As per several reports, Cognizant may also increase involuntary exits from its workforce during the appraisal cycle. In this backdrop, the Forum for IT Employees (FITE) has sent representations to assistant labour commissioners and the state labour commissioner. They have called Cognizant’s <keyword id="46390" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="lay-offs">lay-offs</keyword> as "illegal termination. "We have submitted a representation with the state government as of now. The plan is to formally file for conciliation, which is the first step before the issue can be taken to labour courts,” Vinodh AJ, general secretary of FITE, told ET. A similar incident had happened two years ago when the forum won a stay on the firing of a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=TCS&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">TCS</a> employee in the Madras HC, which also directed the state government to ascertain if employees with IT companies can be covered under the Industrial Disputes Act. Meanwhile, National Association of Software and Services Companies (<keyword id="6372077" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nasscom">Nasscom</keyword>) has always maintained hiring trends will change and demand for niche skills will go up. PM Narendra <keyword id="6354642" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Modi">Modi</keyword> has met the contingent of Indian athletes who will be taking part in the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to wish them luck. 
 
A function was held at the Manekshaw Centre, where Modi individually met all the sportspersons, while wishing them good luck for the games which would be held from August 5th to 21st. 
 
Other dignitaries who attended the function were Sports Minister Jitendra Singh, Sports Secretary Rajiv Yadav, All India Council of Sports (AICS) Chairman Vijay Malhotra, Indian Olympic Association President N Ramachandran, Secretary General Rajeev Mehta, Hockey India President Narinder Batra, and HI Secretary General Mohammed Mushtaq Ahmed. 
 
This year, India’s contingent being sent to the Olympics is the largest ever, with more than 100 athletes having already qualified in 13 sporting disciplines. Last time, in 2012 London Olympics, the count was 83, while this year the count can go up to 110. 
 
Shooters Jitu Rai, Manavjit Singh Sandhu, and Heena Sidhu, shuttlers PV Sindhu and K Srikanth, boxer Shiva Thapa, long distance runners Sudha Singh and Lalita Babar were among the athletes that attended the function, along with the Indian women's hockey team. Along with the players, chief coach Neil Hawgood and coach C R Kumar (Hockey), Pullela Gopichand (Badminton) and Gurbax Singh Sandhu (Boxing) were also there. 
 
However, the function missed the presence of several Rio-qualified athletes who are currently training abroad.
