The Telangana government on Friday derecognised a private school in <keyword id="6354552" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="hyderabad" source="Orion">Hyderabad</keyword> where a four-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by the driver of the school's principal. <keyword id="6355445" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="education" source="Orion">Education</keyword> Minister P. Sabitha Indra Reddy ordered the Hyderabad District Education Officer to cancel the recognition of DAV Public School. However, to ensure that the education of students studying at the school is not affected, the minister directed DEO to make arrangements to shift them to other recognised schools. She asked the DEO to take all necessary steps to allay the apprehensions of the parents. The education minister also asked the officials to make sure that such incidents are not repeated. She said a committee would be constituted to recommend measures to the government to ensure the safety and security of the students in schools. The committee, which will be headed by the education secretary, will submit its report to the government within a week. She said after the receipt of the report, the government would take appropriate measures for the protection of school children. The minister's order came three days after the police arrested the driver of the school's principal for sexually assaulting the LKG student. The principal was also arrested for negligence. Banjara Hills police on Tuesday arrested the driver of the school principal for the sexual assault on the child. Following a protest by the victim's relatives and others, the police on Wednesday arrested the principal for negligence. According to police Beemana <keyword id="15319967" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="rajani-kumar" source="Orion">Rajani Kumar</keyword> (34) was arrested and sent to jail. He has been booked under sections 376 A and B of the Indian Penal Code (<keyword id="6360844" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ipc" source="Orion">IPC</keyword>) and section 6 read with 5(1)(m) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The incident came to light after the parents of the victim noticed behavioural changes in her. When enquired, she told them that Rajani Kumar had been sexually assaulting her for the last three months. He used to take her from the classroom to the digital classroom. Sometimes, the accused took her to a room inside the school, removed her clothes and sexually assaulted her. Enraged at learning about the assault, the victim's parents and other relatives rushed to the school and beat up the driver. He was later arrested by the police. The parents also staged a protest demanding the arrest of principal S. Madhavi. Police also took her into custody and booked her under section 21 POCSO Act for negligence. Governor <keyword id="2490301" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tamilisai-soundararajan" source="Orion">Tamilisai Soundararajan</keyword> on Thursday sought a report from the state government on the incident. She was deeply distressed after going through various media reports about the incident. The governor expressed her dismay and deep anguish over the incident and called for immediate action against the culprit who perpetrated the heinous crime. She has sought a detailed report on this incident from the government. Hyderabad school derecognised after sexual assault on 4-year-old

Cutting across party lines, <keyword id="48510" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajya-sabha" source="Orion">Rajya Sabha</keyword> members on Thursday supported the bill to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lower House of Parliament and state assemblies, even as some <keyword id="6360456" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="opposition" source="Orion">opposition</keyword> members termed it an election gimmick. During the debate in the Upper House on the 128th Constitution Amendment Bill that seeks to reserve a third of seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women, members also highlighted the need to accelerate the process instead of waiting for a fresh census and delimitation exercise. Taking part in the discussion, Elamaram Kareem of CPI(M), while supporting the bill, said the <keyword id="14666" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bjp" source="Orion">BJP</keyword> had promised to bring the <keyword id="109340" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="womens-reservation-bill" source="Orion">women's reservation bill</keyword> in 2014 and in 2019 as well but did not take any action. He held the ruling party responsible for women's reservation losing nine years. This is an election gimmick by the BJP after losing elections in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh, besides facing defeat in the civic polls in Delhi polls, he said. Citing violence against women in strife-torn Manipur and allegations of sexual harassment by women wrestlers, Kareem alleged the government cared little for women. Ram Nath Thakur of the JD(U) questioned the timing of bringing the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam'. Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MP K Keshava Rao stressed the need to accelerate the process for women's reservation and said the 2011 Census could be taken as the benchmark. He urged immediate appointment of the delimitation commission. MDMK's Vaiko also echoed similar sentiments. Saroj Pandey of the BJP said it was unfortunate that questions have been raised on the timing and the intent of bringing the bill. As the country celebrates 'Amrit Kaal', this was the ideal moment for such a legislation, she said. Asom Gana Parishad MP Birendra Prasad Baishya noted that the women's reservation bill has come at a "proper time" after failed attempts in the past. JD(S) leader H D Devegowda also supported the bill and recollected steps taken by him for women's reservation while he was the chief minister of Karnataka and also the prime minister. Manoj Jha of the RJD said demanded that the women's reservation bill be referred to a select committee to consider extending similar benefits to Other Backward Classes. V Vijayasai Reddy (YSRCP) also supported the bill and said the reservation for women must also be extended to Rajya Sabha and state legislative councils. KC Venugopal of the Congress sought immediate implementation of the legislation. He also sought reservation for the OBC women under the bill. Venugopal claimed the <keyword id="6354477" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="narendra-modi" source="Orion">Narendra Modi</keyword> government did not make any effort to bring the bill in the last nine years and it is due to the political calculations that the government has brought the legislation now. "Life-transforming legislations should come from the heart and not from the head," he said in the Upper House. Rajani Ashokrao Patil of the Congress and Mausam Noor of the TMC also supported the bill. Sulata Deo of the BJD, Subhas Chandra Bose Pilli of the YSRCP, Ravichandra Vaddiraju of the BRS and K Ravindra Kumar of the TDP also participated in the discussion.

Rama Rao</keyword> on Thursday agreed to a proposal for setting up a sex offenders' register in the state on the lines of the one in the US. The proposal was mooted by eminent social activist Sunitha Krishnan. The minister for urban development, municipal administration, industry and information technology suggested her to present the concept note. "Let's absolutely get it done. Please present the concept note and we will take it forward," tweeted KTR, as the minister is popularly known. He responded to a tweet by Krishnan, co-founder of Prajwala, an <keyword id="6366591" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NGO" source="Orion">NGO</keyword> that rescues, rehabilitates and reintegrates sex-trafficked victims. "Can we set up a <keyword id="2151986" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sex-offenders-register" source="Orion">Sex Offenders Register</keyword> for the State of Telangana of convicted offenders on the lines that exists in the USA which even the public can access for the purpose of recruitment etc," wrote Krishnan. She offered to submit a concept note based on the research of 20 countries. The police have also booked principal Madhavi for negligence. She was said to be absconding.
