The railways transported 20 litres of camel milk to a family in Mumbai after a woman tweeted about its non-availability for her three-and-a-half-year-old autistic child, who is allergic to goat, cow and buffalo milk. This good deed of the railways came to light on Saturday when senior IPS officer Arun Bothra tweeted about it. "20 lts. camel milk reached Mumbai by train last night. The family has kindly shared part of it with another needy person in the city. Thanking Sh.Tarun Jain, CPTM, North-West Railways who ensured an unscheduled halt to pick the container," Bothra said in a tweet. Renu Kumari, the mother of the child, had tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet, in which she highlighted her son's plight. "Sir I have a 3.5 yrs old child suffering from autism and severe food allergies. He survives on Camel Milk and limited quantity of pulses. When lockdown started I didn't have enough camel milk to last this long. Help me get Camel Milk or its powder from Sadri (Rajasthan)," she had said in the tweet. People from all across the country put forward several suggestions on Twitter, including Bothra, who contacted Advik Foods, the first brand of camel milk products in the country based in Rajasthan. The company offered its camel milk powder for the child. However, sending it to Mumbai was an issue. "The matter came to our notice when Bothra tweeted about it. I discussed the issue with senior DCM, Ajmer, Mahesh Chand Jewalia. We decided that parcel cargo train no. 00902, running between Ludhiana and Bandra in Mumbai, will be stopped at the Falna station in Rajasthan, although it does not have a scheduled halt there, the package will be picked up from Falna and delivered to the woman in Mumbai," Chief Passenger Traffic Manager, North Western Railway (NWR), Tarun Jain told . He said through Jewalia, instructions were sent to Chief Commercial Inspector Akhil Taneja to co-ordinate with the operating department and the supplier to ensure that the camel milk is loaded at Falna. "After taking permission from the appropriate authority, the train was stopped and the camel milk was delivered to the woman at Bandra. For us at the Indian Railways, this is not the time to look at commercial gains. We have been asked to help out wherever possible in whichever way we can. Our (NWR) trains run through 18 districts of the country and we will do whatever is needed to help people out," Jain said.

New Delhi, Apr 19 () Railways has transported 1,150 tonnes of medical items during the lockdown period across the country, the national transporter said on Sunday, adding that they include medicines, masks, hospital items and other medical commodities.It said the items were being ferried through its timetabled parcel services to strengthen government's efforts in managing the challenges and adverse impact of the coronavirus outbreak in the country. At almost 400 tonnes, the Northern Railway ferried the maximum items followed by Western Railway (328.84 tonnes) and Central Railway (136 tonnes). While the railways has played a significant role in transporting essential commodities across the country, it has also been helping people with medical aid when necessary. Recently, it transported medicines from Ahmedabad to Ajmer for an autistic boy and in a similar case, sent post surgery medicines for a 16-year-old from Ahmedabad to Ratlam in parcel trains. "Indian Railways is touching human lives during the hour of crisis. Recently, for an autistic child, skimmed camel milk was transported by a parcel train from Ajmer to Mumbai when the parents resorted for help on social media platform," the railways said in a statement. "Similarly, another autistic child in Ajmer suffering from serious ailments, had his stock of medicines run out, his relatives approached Railway officials and medicines were transported by a parcel train from Ahmedabad to Ajmer," it said. Following increasingly strict coronavirus measures, demands for group-buying food delivery services have sky-rocketed. For some, organizing group purchases are the only way they can get more food. Supermarkets and grocery stores have set up group-buying services on the Chinese messaging app WeChat, with chats for buying certain items like meat, vegetables, and milk. More sophisticated shops set up apps within WeChat for Wuhan residents to order food.Residents can purchase quantities of food by weight to order and sent in bulk to grocery to stores. One Wuhan resident named Guo Jing told AFP that group-ordering is the only way she can get food now that she is unable to leave her compound. In her neighborhood, a 14.3-pound set of five vegetables, including potatoes and baby cabbage, cost 50 yuan ($7.11)."You have no way to choose what you like to eat," Guo, 29, told <a href="https://www.hongkongfp.com/2020/03/01/no-one-cares-wuhan-residents-adapt-find-food-coronavirus-lockdown/">AFP</a>. "You cannot have personal preferences anymore."Some districts have even begun to regulate the group delivery services, prohibiting supermarkets from selling to individuals and forcing communities to buy groceries in bulk. Even if a neighborhood can group order food, some Wuhan residents have complained about the quality and price of the produce delivered. David Dai, a resident who lives on the outskirts of Wuhan, told AFP that onions and tomatoes he and his neighbors ordered arrived rotten. He said they were forced to throw out a third of the food.However, grocery stores and communities are struggling to fill the increasing number of orders have begun to set minimum order requirements for delivery. While one supermarket required a minimum of 30 orders, another store only allowed 1,000 delivery orders per day, the AFP reported. A man who worked at the logistics division of a supermarket said that hiring more staff to deal with demands has been difficult, adding that they are hesitant to hire outsiders who could become infected. These new requirements make it difficult for smaller communities to have food delivered if they cannot meet the minimum order for delivery."To be honest, there's nothing we can do," Yang Nan, manager of Lao Cun Zhang supermarket, told AFP. According to Yang, the Lao Cun Zhang supermarket only has four vehicles and does not have the staff to deliver smaller orders. For Wuhan residents that are unable to order food in bulk with neighbors and don't have access to food within their area, they are left to rely on what remaining food they have. One Wuhan resident named Pan Hongsheng who lives with his wife and two children said the family has run out of milk powder for their three-year-old."I still don't know where to buy things once we've finished eating what we have at home," Pan Hongsheng told AFP. As she looks to the future of the grocery business, she is "laser-focused on listening to customers and making their lives easier" and thinking about how consumers' needs are changing, she told Business Insider. "For example, millennials and Gen Zers are becoming parents, and their food buying behavior is shifting to focusing on families," she said. "These generations have always had access to the internet and mobile phones, there is an immediacy that has always been at their fingertips, and it's created very high expectations. We work hard to meet and exceed the bar."Amazon shoppers' most pressing need right now is time, she said. "We are constantly being asked to juggle more tasks, all the while making it home in time to feed ourselves (or our families) a nutritious meal," she said. But Amazon isn't only focused on online grocery, which is growing rapidly but still only accounts for about 3% of all grocery purchases, according to UBS.With its purchase of Whole Foods, which has 510 stores and 95,000 employees, Amazon made a big bet on physical grocery stores. It's now leaning even harder into that bet with the launch of its new grocery chain this year. "The majority of customers still enjoy shopping in store, and that is where most food is currently purchased," Landry said.The company hasn't yet revealed much information about its new chain, besides confirming that it won't be a Whole Foods store or feature Amazon Go technology. Amazon Go uses cameras and artificial intelligence to allow shoppers to enter a store, shop for products, and leave without exchanging payment.The first location of Amazon's new chain will open in the Woodland Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles this year. At about 35,000 square feet, the space is about the same size as a Whole Foods store.The new chain will reportedly carry conventional products, such as Coca-Cola and Oreos, and target middle-income shoppers, according to the <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/amazons-grocery-store-plan-moves-ahead-with-los-angeles-leases-11569927601">Wall Street Journal</a>. It's expected to compete directly with US grocery leaders such as Walmart, Kroger, and Aldi. The company has a trove of data from customer orders through Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods that should help it determine the best mix of top-selling items to carry in stores.An essentially blank canvas also allows the company to allocate ample space to online grocery services, such as order storage and pickup counters, which weren't factored in to most US grocery store layouts until recent years.Amazon is already building these spaces into new Whole Foods stores."New Whole Foods Market stores are designed with delivery and pickup orders in mind, making extra space for delivery and pickup operations," Landry said. Other traditional grocery chains, including Kroger and Walmart, have been <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/walmart-kroger-stores-grocery-battle-vs-amazon-2019-3">reallocating space</a> or <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/walmart-unveils-alphabot-to-battle-amazon-and-kroger-2020-1">building new attachments</a> to existing stores to account for their growing online grocery businesses. And while the Amazon Go technology won't be used in Amazon's first grocery store, it could be added to future locations. Amazon Go is now in 25 locations, most of which are about 2,500 square feet.
