But it does get updated at least every three months with earnings reports, and occasionally Buffett will decide something warrants a fresh link on the homepage, such as his <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/warren-buffett-berkshire-hathaway-unaware-microsoft-takeover-activision-blizzard-stock-2022-2">clarification</a> about Berkshire's investment in Activision Blizzard in 2021.Why has Buffett, who <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/warren-buffett-defends-propublica-tax-rate-berkshire-hathaway-stock-dvidends-2021-6">cares deeply</a> about Berkshire's public appearance and reputation, never updated his company's antiquated website? Its scores of subsidiaries are overseen by Buffett and a couple of dozen people at Omaha HQ, who focus on taking the profits the businesses generate, and allocating them within and outside the company.Berkshire's website has "everything an investor needs in one easy landing page," Chris Bloomstran, the president of Semper Augustus Investments and a longtime Berkshire shareholder, told BI.Bloomstran said he finds the website easy to navigate, and loves having access to decades' worth of financial reports, shareholder letters, news releases and links to subsidiary websites in one place."It goes to Berkshire's culture and minimalist staffing of the Omaha home office. No human resources at the parent. No unnecessary overhead or bureaucracy," he said.Berkshire shareholders "don't need a flashy website or pictures of Warren eating See's Candies in his Fruit of the Looms," Darren Pollock, a portfolio manager at Cheviot Value Management and another veteran shareholder, told BI.<h2 id="2b20deb0-54df-4fe3-bcdd-d1cc2dd220bb">Minimalist</h2>Pollock said the website reflects Buffett's perception of his shareholders as people who value hard numbers over glossy copy and substance over style. In his mind, they appreciate their managers <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/warren-buffett-berkshire-hathaway-alleghany-acquisition-deals-negotiation-style-philosophy-2022-4">counting every cent they spend</a>, not splashing cash on an unnecessary website upgrade."Berkshire's site is minimalist amidst a sea of flashy web content but it's also just what investors want," he added.David Kass, a finance professor at the University of Maryland who's been following Buffett for nearly 40 years, echoed those sentiments."Berkshire's webpage is investor-oriented, efficient, and user-friendly," he told BI. "Warren Buffett is demonstrating how he minimizes cost at Berkshire. His automobile license plate in Nebraska used to be (and maybe still is) 'THRIFTY.'"

The Union <keyword id="6355513" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cabinet" source="Orion">Cabinet</keyword> on Wednesday approved a four per cent increase in <keyword id="6429991" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="dearness-allowance" source="Orion">Dearness Allowance</keyword> (DA) for Central government employees and Dearness Relief for pensioners. Briefing reporters about the decisions of the union cabinet, Information and Broadcasting Minister <keyword id="6364468" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="anurag-thakur" source="Orion">Anurag Thakur</keyword> said the decision will be implemented from July 1 this year. "Dearness Allowance for Central government employees and Dearness Relief for pensioners has been increased by 4%. The <keyword id="663200" type="General" weightage="60" keywordseo="DA-hike" source="Orion">DA hike</keyword> will be implemented from 1, July 2023," he said. The decision will benefit 48.67 lakh Central Government Employees and 67.95 lakh pensioners. The minister said the decision has come in the festival season and will benefit both the central government employees and pensioners. Generous bonus for railway employees The Cabinet has also granted approval for a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) that amounts to 78 days wages for eligible non-gazetted Railway employees. This bonus is for the financial year 2022-23 and will benefit a wide array of railway staff, including Track maintainers, Loco Pilots, Train Managers (Guards), Station Masters, Supervisors, Technicians, Technician Helpers, Points man, Ministerial Staff, and other Group 'C' staff, excluding Railway Protection Force (RPF)/ Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) personnel, read the press release issued by Cabinet. This move comes in recognition of the outstanding performance of the railway employees throughout the financial year 2022-23. He said to expect it to rain for the next several days."But if it doesn't, then it's a bonus."It was a warm, if not literally, welcome to Edinburgh — and to the Balmoral.One of Edinburgh's crown jewels, the Balmoral is regularly honored among Scotland's top accommodations. In 2024 alone, it's been listed as one of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cntraveller.com/gallery/best-edinburgh-hotels">the city's best hotels by Condé Nast Traveller</a>, and made <a target="_blank" href="https://www.forbestravelguide.com/hotels/scotland-united-kingdom/the-balmoral-a-rocco-forte-hotel">Forbes' five-star list</a>. Suites can cost around $750 per night; Business Insider paid a media rate of $175 per night.After just a few days, I can see why it's an institution.Purchased by the hotelier <a target="_blank" href="https://www.roccofortehotels.com/hotels-and-resorts/the-balmoral-hotel/story/">Sir Rocco Forte in 1997</a>, the hotel was the first in his Rocco Forte Collection, a portfolio that now spans 14 properties across Europe. Balmoral staff seem to love to note that the clock is almost never right — it's set three minutes ahead to help travelers make their trains. It's only right on New Year's Eve (for obvious celebratory reasons).The hotel has hosted several of Britain's VIPs, from Paul McCartney to J.K. Rowling. In 2007, Rowling finished "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," the final installment of the wizarding series, at the hotel.A suite marked with a bright purple door is now named after the author. If the room has suffered from <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jk-rowling-transgender-comments-show-reality-wizarding-world-harry-potter-2020-6">Rowling's recent controversies</a>, it doesn't show: On a tour of the hotel, I was told the suite is regularly rented out — for around $4,000 a night. majority of the revenue is earned from this segment (close to 98-99%). We have a positive view of the company from the long term perspective, given government support to the infrastructure sector, high experience in the execution of road projects, technical capabilities and stable financials.” Strong order book and financial performance Over the last two decades, GR Infra has transformed itself from a small regional player to a pan-India EPC company. Order book of the company grew from a meagre ₹1,700 crore in FY14 to a massive ₹19,000 crore, said a report by Prabhudas Lilladher. Its revenue has seen strong 33% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in the last three years (much higher than listed peers), primarily driven by strong order intake and expansion in new geographies The company has three manufacturing facilities -- one each in Rajasthan, Assam and Uttar Pradesh -- for the manufacturing of key raw materials and also a fabrication and galvanizing unit in Gujarat. All these enable it to be less dependent on third party equipment providers and also efficiently manage its project execution schedules. In FY19, FY20 and FY21, the company executed 80%, 50% and 50%, respectively, of the projects prior to the completion dates, said Choice Broking in a report. Robust track record With over 25 years of experience in the construction industry, GR Infraprojects’ promoters and management team have a track record of timely executing over 100 road construction projects since 2006. “With superior project management capabilities and integrated business model, the company received ₹280 crore as early completion bonus in its projects,” said a report by Prabhudas Lilladher. The company’s order book of ₹19,000 crore is well diversified across the country (Uttar Pradesh -- 23%, Madhya Pradesh -- 18%, Maharashtra -- 14%, Gujarat -- 13%), but concentrated in the roads segment at 97%. GR Infraprojects IPO is for long term investors, say analysts

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment said that the bill will ensure ‘Right to Sustenance’ regardless of the wage bracket, across verticals. The move will benefit 500 million workers across the country. “This Bill provides for monthly wage holders to get their salary on time and all sections of society which were outside the ambit of the minimum wages will now get the right to minimum wages,” <keyword id="258592" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Santosh-Kumar-Gangwar">Santosh Kumar Gangwar</keyword>, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment<a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/lok-sabha-passes-wage-code-bill-to-ensure-minimum-wage-for-workers/article28761226.ece"> said</a> in the Parliament. The bill will revoke the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, the Payment of Wages Act, 1936, the Payment of Bonus Act, 1965 and the Equal Remuneration Act, 1976. What amendments would the bill entail? The bill will formulate laws to increase <a href="https://www.prsindia.org/billtrack/code-wages-2019">provision of minimum wages</a> to employees across sectors. As of now, the Minimum Wages Act and Payment of Wages Act is applicable to workers below a certain wage bracket. This will also help workers of unorganised sectors, receive timely payments. As per the amendment, the minimum wage for farmers shall be revised every two years while the wages should be revised every four years for other workers. What are the provisions for minimum wages of employees? The minimum wages will be set by the government according to skills and difficulty of tasks. The employers will not be able to set wages which are less than the base that will be set by the government. How will it work? The government will set a ‘floor wage,’ according to the employee’s standard of living. And the minimum wage shall be higher than the floor wage value, set by the central government. And if the employees work more than that, they will be given overtime wages — which is at least twice of the normal wage. This time, though, things look a little different.That's according to Melissa and Margie Juszczak, the mother-daughter duo who run <a href="https://www.atinyhouseresort.com/">Think Big! A Tiny House Resort</a> in the Catskills. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/catskills-tiny-house-resort-vacation-city-millennials-photos-2019-11">In October, I spent three days at the resort</a> - it was my <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/photos-tour-tiny-house-catskill-resort-interior-2019-11">first time experiencing a tiny house</a> and visiting the Catskills.While I was there, the owners gave me a brief history lesson on the area. I realized that looking at the last 200 years of the Catskills explains why people love it now.<h2>The Catskills were a summer destination for the wealthy in the 1800s</h2>The Catskills have long been a summer getaway for New Yorkers. In the 1800s, the wealthy came to the Catskills to stay in houses and resorts at the very top of the mountains to avoid tuberculosis, Margie said. A number of painters also came, making the Catskills the home of American Impressionism, she added. Visitors would travel by boat from New York City be greeted by a stagecoach, and transfer to the Otis Railway. The Catskills peaked in the 1950s and 1960s thanks to summering Jewish Americans, <a href="https://time.com/3778413/the-disappearance-of-the-borscht-belt-hotels/">reported Christina Clusiau for TIME magazine</a>. Borscht Belt resorts, where they often stayed, accommodated up to 150,000 guests a year, she wrote.Sullivan County, home to part of the Borscht Belt, once housed 538 hotels and 50,000-plus bungalows, <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/the-ghost-hotels-of-the-catskills">according to Brandon Presser of The Daily Beast</a>. But during these peak decades, resorts continued to spend on upgrading their properties to outdo their competitors, striking lending deals with local banks, he reported. This was the beginning of the end for the Catskills.Around the same time, a variety of factors decreased the appeal of the Catskills, according to Presser and Clusiau's separate reporting: Jewish-Americans became more accepted in other leisure destinations; the advent of air conditioning meant that sick people in the city didn't need to escape for fresh air; and railways reduced their services to the area.When the cost of air travel dropped, people started seeking out other destinations, and, as Melissa said, the "Catskills died." Large resorts went bankrupt and closed around the 1960s and 1970s. "The Catskills have seen a recycle numerous times."Today, people need neither boat nor plane to get to the Catskills. Only two hours away from New York City, the area isn't "a far push" via car, Melissa said. "Getting to the Hamptons isn't fun," Margie added. "No one wants to spend four hours on a trip. This is the place to be right now."<h2>The Catskills have evolved to cater to millennials</h2>But it's not just transportation that has changed the hospitality industry in the Catskills. "People have stopped vacationing in the same way," Margie said. "Now, it's the era of vacation rentals."The luxury resorts of Catskills past have been replaced with hip boutique hotels, luxury lodges, and Airbnbs, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/catskills-new-york-hotels-lodges-tiny-houses-wellness-retreats-2018-12">Business Insider's Katie Warren previously reported</a>. Its guests "are wanting to get away in the woods but also be around people," Chodock said. "It's a very different setting than what is going on in Montauk. That's more than twice the average American long-haul trucker. </li><li>But that investment has paid off. In an interview with Business Insider, Greg Smith, executive vice president, supply chain for Walmart US, explained why Walmart is using its private team of truck drivers has driven efficiencies for the massive retailer. </li></ul>Last year, when a truck driver shortage hit industries across the board, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/truck-driver-shortage-slowing-amazon-orders-increasing-retail-prices-2018-5">retailers ranging from Amazon to General Mills to Tyson Foods</a> had to reevaluate their bottom lines. To attract more drivers to the industry, trucking companies had to boost pay, and that meant transportation costs ballooned - 71% of the nation's freight is moved by truck drivers. Walmart, which makes some 120,000 big rig deliveries per week, got hit by the truck driver shortage, too. In 2018, Walmart ran its first national television ad campaign to recruit more drivers, shortened the length of its onboarding process, and began offering referral bonuses of up to $1,500. They gave all of its truckers <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/walmart-truck-drivers-pay-raise-truck-driver-shortage-2019-1">a raise last month</a>, too. All told, Walmart <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/walmart-truck-driver-shortage-hiring-2018-12">doubled its spending</a> on truck driver recruitment last year. Greg Smith, executive vice president, supply chain for Walmart US, told Business Insider that the mega-retailer has started to rely on its in-house truck driver staff over third-parties. "With the changes that I've described in our system, we've been able to make our fleet much more competitive," Smith said. Courtesy of Walmart In three locations that Walmart services, the company used to use third-party fleets. But it's transitioned to its in-house fleet. The average first-year Walmart truckers earn $87,500, more than twice the average American long-haul trucker earns. They also get up to four weeks of paid time off, full medical benefits, opportunities for quarterly bonuses, and a host of other perks that most truckers don't receive. That means, for Walmart, in-house truckers likely cost the retailer much more than third-party drivers. But Smith said the investment has brought back dividends. Smith said Walmart will continue to move more work out of third-party trucking and into the company's private fleet. "We anticipate that we'll continue to use, leverage the opportunities where our fleet makes more sense to be able to leverage it more to service our business," he added. The way Walmart treats its truckers, Smith said, helps the retailer avoid issues that most trucking companies are grappling with. Turnover, for example, is at 94% throughout the long-haul trucking industry. Smith said Walmart truckers have low turnover. <h2>In-house supply chain moves have become common at Walmart - and at a certain Seattle-based e-commerce behemoth, too</h2>Walmart has been moving other parts of its supply chain in-house. Since the summer of 2018, the $500 billion retailer has been piloting a program in which it uses its own intermodal containers, instead of going through a third-party rail company or middleman. Walmart truck drivers are also newly trucking those containers between the railway and Walmart facilities. "When we give it to a third-party provider, we don't necessarily have the control," Ken Braunbach, vice president of inbound logistics at Walmart, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/walmart-rail-operations-supply-chain-2019-2">previously told Business Insider</a>. "We are at the third party's discretion of how they operate and optimize our network - whereas we have that capability when we move it ourselves." Other transportation companies have been taking note. J.B. Hunt, in meetings with Morgan Stanley's transportation analyst team, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/morgan-stanley-amazon-logistics-jb-hunt-elephant-2019-3">said it understands that Amazon and Walmart</a> are taking more and more of their logistics services in-house. That doesn't just mean losing business, "but also potentially competing with some of their customers, over time." "Our business is growing very effectively, so that means expansion and growth," Smith said. "We are making ourselves much more cost-competitive, which means the opportunity to pick up additional business that we haven't in the past. As per a news report by IANS, Anyone wishing to remain logged in for more than half-an-hour can do so by paying R 30 an hour. 
 
BSNL has made special arrangements to introduce the facility with support from Quadgen, a Bengaluru-based company. 
 
Future plans include introducing Wi-Fi at the Fathepur Sikri complex. The Agra Cantt railway station is already Wi-Fi enabled. 
 
Taj Mahal remains India's major tourist draw, visited by six million in 2014. 
 
While tourism industry leaders have generally welcomed the new facility, some conservationists feel the Internet would prevent many tourists from appreciating the beauty of the monument, and soaking in the romance of the ambience of the surroundings.

Commuters are facing problems today as a large number of autos and taxis remained off the roads in the wake of day-long nationwide strike. 
 
At least 10 <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=central+trade+unions+">central trade unions</a> went on a strike to protest against changes in labour laws and privatisation of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Public+Sector+undertakings+%28PSUs">Public Sector undertakings (PSUs</a>), which affected normal life across India, including in <keyword id="6357783" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="West-Bengal">West Bengal</keyword> and Kerala. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Public+Sector+undertakings+%28PSUs">Bharatiya Janata Party</a>-backed BMS and NFITU, however, stayed away from the strike. 
 
Trade union leaders claimed that around 15 crore formal sector workers are on strike in support of their 12-point charter of demands. 
 
These demands includes urgent measures to contain <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=price+rise">price rise</a>, contain <keyword id="6358907" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="unemployment">unemployment</keyword>, strict enforcement of basic labour laws, universal social security cover for all workers and minimum wage of Rs 15,000 per month. 
 
In Kolkata, partial impact was seen on suburban trains while shops, markets and business establishments in most areas remained closed. People faced problems in the National Capital too. 
 <keyword id="106891" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="state-administration">State administration</keyword> was plying a large fleet of public buses while partial impact was seen on operations of private buses and taxis. 
 
In Kerala, public and private bus services, taxis and autorickshaws were off the roads. Only few private cars and two wheelers were seen on the roads. 
 
Shops, hotels and even small tea stalls were closed in the state. 
 
On Tuesday, the government appealed trade unions to call off the agitation in the interest of workers and nation. 
 
The unions, however, decided to go ahead with strike as their talks with a ministerial panel headed by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Finance+Minister+Arun+Jaitley+">Finance Minister Arun Jaitley</a> last month did not make any headway on their demands. 
 The unions are also demanding enhanced pension for workers, stoppage of disinvestment in PSUs, stoppage of contractorisation, removal of ceiling on bonus and provident fund, compulsory registration of trade unions within 45 days, no amendment to labour laws unilaterally, stopping of <keyword id="44528" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="FDI">FDI</keyword> in Railways and Defence.
