<ul><li>The <keyword id="6355512" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="union-cabinet">Union Cabinet</keyword> has decided to give 30 lakh <keyword id="1828474" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="public-sector-employees">public sector employees</keyword> a bonus to stimulate demand ahead of the festive season.</li><li>Around ₹2,791 crore has been allocated for 17 lakh central <keyword id="6384319" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="government-employees">government employees</keyword>. </li><li>Another ₹906 crore has been allotted to non-gazetted employees.</li></ul>In a move that brings in some festive cheer, Union Minister <keyword id="119642" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prakash-Javadekar">Prakash Javadekar</keyword> announced that the cabinet has decided to approve ₹3,697 crore to be given out to public sector employees as bonus. Bonus for 30 lakh public sector employees announced by Union Cabinet

In a piece of good news for Indian Railways employees, the Union Cabinet has granted bonus equivalent to 78 days wages for financial year 2019-20, the national transporter announced on Thursday. In a statement, the <keyword id="6356740" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="RAILWAY">Railway</keyword> Ministry said, "About 11.58 lakh non-gazetted railway employees have been granted bonus equivalent to 78 days wages for FY 2019-20. This productivity linked bonus to railway employees has been estimated to be of Rs 2,081.68 crore." The ministry said that the Union Cabinet in its meeting held on Wednesday accepted the proposal of the Ministry of Railways for payment of productivity linked bonus (PLB) equivalent to 78 days wages for the financial year 2019-2020 for all eligible non-gazetted railway employees (excluding RPF/RPSF personnel). The Ministry said that the wage calculation ceiling prescribed for payment of PLB to the eligible non-gazetted railway employees is Rs 7,000 per month. The maximum amount payable per eligible railway employee is Rs 17,951 for 78 days, the ministry said. The Productivity Linked Bonus in Railway covers all non-gazetted railway employees (excluding RPF/RPSF personnel) who are spread over the entire country. The ministry said that the decision of the Cabinet shall be implemented before the holidays for this year as well. "For the year 2019-20 PLB equivalent to 78 days' wages will be paid which is expected to motivate the employees for working towards improving the performance of the Railways," it said. The ministry said that this payment is being made for last year's performance and even this year during the Covid-19 period, a lot of hard work has been put in by railways employees in movement of shramik specials, for movement of essential commodities including foodgrains, fertilisers, coal etc and completion of more than 200 vital maintenance projects during the lockdown period which would boost safety and all round efficiency in railway operations. Railways to give bonus equivalent to 78 day wages to 11.58 lakh non-gazetted employees

The Union <keyword id="6355513" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cabinet" source="Orion">Cabinet</keyword> on Wednesday approved a four per cent increase in <keyword id="6429991" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="dearness-allowance" source="Orion">Dearness Allowance</keyword> (DA) for Central government employees and Dearness Relief for pensioners. Briefing reporters about the decisions of the union cabinet, Information and Broadcasting Minister <keyword id="6364468" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="anurag-thakur" source="Orion">Anurag Thakur</keyword> said the decision will be implemented from July 1 this year. "Dearness Allowance for Central government employees and Dearness Relief for pensioners has been increased by 4%. The <keyword id="663200" type="General" weightage="60" keywordseo="DA-hike" source="Orion">DA hike</keyword> will be implemented from 1, July 2023," he said. The decision will benefit 48.67 lakh Central Government Employees and 67.95 lakh pensioners. The minister said the decision has come in the festival season and will benefit both the central government employees and pensioners. Generous bonus for railway employees The Cabinet has also granted approval for a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) that amounts to 78 days wages for eligible non-gazetted Railway employees. This bonus is for the financial year 2022-23 and will benefit a wide array of railway staff, including Track maintainers, Loco Pilots, Train Managers (Guards), Station Masters, Supervisors, Technicians, Technician Helpers, Points man, Ministerial Staff, and other Group 'C' staff, excluding Railway Protection Force (RPF)/ Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) personnel, read the press release issued by Cabinet. This move comes in recognition of the outstanding performance of the railway employees throughout the financial year 2022-23. The Minister of State for Labour and Employment said that the bill will ensure ‘Right to Sustenance’ regardless of the wage bracket, across verticals. The move will benefit 500 million workers across the country. “This Bill provides for monthly wage holders to get their salary on time and all sections of society which were outside the ambit of the minimum wages will now get the right to minimum wages,” <keyword id="258592" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Santosh-Kumar-Gangwar">Santosh Kumar Gangwar</keyword>, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment<a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/lok-sabha-passes-wage-code-bill-to-ensure-minimum-wage-for-workers/article28761226.ece"> said</a> in the Parliament. The bill will revoke the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, the Payment of Wages Act, 1936, the Payment of Bonus Act, 1965 and the Equal Remuneration Act, 1976. What amendments would the bill entail? The bill will formulate laws to increase <a href="https://www.prsindia.org/billtrack/code-wages-2019">provision of minimum wages</a> to employees across sectors. As of now, the Minimum Wages Act and Payment of Wages Act is applicable to workers below a certain wage bracket. This will also help workers of unorganised sectors, receive timely payments. As per the amendment, the minimum wage for farmers shall be revised every two years while the wages should be revised every four years for other workers. What are the provisions for minimum wages of employees? The minimum wages will be set by the government according to skills and difficulty of tasks. The employers will not be able to set wages which are less than the base that will be set by the government. How will it work? The government will set a ‘floor wage,’ according to the employee’s standard of living. And the minimum wage shall be higher than the floor wage value, set by the central government. How will it affect overtime policy and bonuses? The government will define the minimum number of hours that will constitute a normal working day. And if the employees work more than that, they will be given overtime wages — which is at least twice of the normal wage. The bill does not have provisions for bonuses like travel allowance and others. What will be the mode of payment of salaries and wage period? The employers can pay their employees either daily, weekly, fortnightly or monthly via cheque, currency notes, bank transfer or digital payment modes. How can it benefit female employees? The bill will provide equal wages to both men and women for similar type of work. Employees will be hired on the basis of skill, effort, experience.
