The Air Force’s contingent for the exercise is named the <keyword id="7796625" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Garuda-Contingent">Garuda Contingent</keyword>.<br /><br />This is the sixth edition of the air exercises between IAF and the French Air Force (FAF). It is an important opportunity as IAF can gain experience in operating its current fleet of <keyword id="1055772" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sukhoi-Su-30">Sukhoi SU-30</keyword> fighters with the Rafales. <br /><br />Indian government had ordered 36 Rafale fighter jets from France, and the first delivery is expected this year. <br /><br />The Garuda contingent will include a large number of its own assets including 10 Sukhoi SU-30 fighters, an Ilyushin IL-78 aerial refuelling tanker, an Ilyushin IL-76 Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) and 150 Indian Air Force (IAF) officers. <br /><br /><strong>Indo-French defence cooperation on high<br /></strong><br />The Indian and French Naval forces also took part in the Varuna naval exercise in May. The naval exercise were also the largest-ever they took part in. <br /><br />Indian aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya and French aircraft carrier FNS Charles de Gaulle, were the highlights of the exercise, which was conducted in two phases. <br /><br />In 2018, India and France signed a strategic pact allowing each others navies and naval facilities. The pact also allows them to open up naval bases for warships.<br /><br />Garuda is the name Indian Air Force uses for its bilateral air exercises with France. Indian army conducts military exercises with France under the name Shakti.<br /><br />The fourth edition of the Varuna exercises took place in 2014 in Jodhpur, India. France and India come closer after Rafale deal, to conduct largest-ever air exercises

<br /> The Rs 58,000 crore deal executed by India to purchase 36 Rafale fighter jets from <keyword id="6354785" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="France">France</keyword> is undoubtedly one the most well negotiated pacts and one that will bring along huge gains for the domestic aviation industry besides creating job openings for the people of India.<br />
<br /> So what makes this deal, first since the purchase of Sukhois from <keyword id="6358826" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Russia">Russia</keyword> in the late 90s, a win-win for India.<br />
<br />
In an exclusive chat with <em>DefenceAviationPost.com</em>, Union Defence Minister, <keyword id="6363133" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Manohar-Parrikar">Manohar Parrikar</keyword> said, “In any foreign deal, there are 3-4 things that have to be taken care of. First is the cost, which we have negotiated at a much lesser price than the earlier price being quoted by the French team.”<br />
<br />
It is noteworthy to point here that the 7.878 billion Euros deal has been clinched at a price that is 750 million euros less than what was quoted by the French team in January 2016.<br />
<br />
“Second is the percentage of offsets which in this case is much higher than any other foreign military sales so far. This creates a huge potential for the aviation industry and is in line with the Prime Minister’s Make in India initiative,” the minister said.<br />
<br />
It may be mentioned here that deal comes with a 50% offset clause which means that Indian companies will get businesses worth over 3 billion euros or Rs 22,500 crores.<br />
<br /> <keyword id="50002" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="parrikar">Parrikar</keyword> said the most significant feature of this contract are the enhancements for India which even French aircrafts do not have.<br />
<br /> Firstly, these fighter jets come along with state-of-the-art missile weaponry profile that increases the strike capabilities of the <keyword id="6355075" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IAF">IAF</keyword> to a great extent. It includes Meteor Beyond Visual Range (BVR) air-to-air missile with a range in excess 150 kms. Then it also comes along with <keyword id="55648" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Scalp">Scalp</keyword> (Pointed Offence) which is a long range air to surface cruise missile with a range of over 300 kms.<br />
<br /> Further, these fighter jets will be customised in line with the requirements of the IAF and will include <keyword id="3685910" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="helmet-mounted-displays">Helmet Mounted Displays</keyword>, radar warning receiver, infrared search and track among others.<br />
<br />
“So from all directions it is a win-win deal for India. Rafale is a potent aircraft and will add to the capability of the IAF,” the minister added.<br />
<br /> Experts say that Rafale coming fitted with <keyword id="1608338" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="meteors">Meteors</keyword> and Scalp will shake up <keyword id="148496" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pakistan-Air-Force">Pakistan Air Force</keyword> hugely and PLAAF (air warfare branch of China) to a fair extent.<br />
<br />
They added that the enhancements negotiated under the deal for 36 Rafale means that India’s adversaries will need four modern fighter jets to counter one Rafale. Simply put, the enemy will need four Su30 or four F16D (latest acquired by Pakistan) or four JF17 (which again Pakistan has) to counter one Rafale with its existing capabilities.<br />
<br />
“This 1:4 ratio will clearly give Indian an edge over its adversaries and the deal for 36 Rafale is equivalent to procuring 144 modern fighter jets,” an official said requesting anonymity.<br />
<br />
Timelines is another major aspect of this deal. The deliveries of fighter jets will start in 36 months and completed in 18 months thereon.<br />
<br /> Under the contract, the French manufacturer <keyword id="6407804" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dassault">Dassault</keyword> has to ensure that 75% of the fleet or 27 fighters are operationally available at any given time.<br />

<ul class="summary-list"><li>A TikToker shared a Zillow listing for a $520,000 "live/work" unit converted from an old office space.</li><li>Viewers were aghast at the "lazy" and "soul-crushing" renovation located in Northern California.</li></ul><p>A Zillow listing for a $520,000 "live/work" apartment that was converted from a former office space is raising eyebrows on TikTok, with many expressing outrage at the "lazy" renovation and how depressing its aesthetic is.</p><p>The dwelling in question is a 1,066-square-foot, 1-bedroom unit in San Rafael, California, which is located in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was featured by the <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@zillowtastrophes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">@Zillowtastrophes</a> account on TikTok, which chronicles both "hidden gems and outright disasters" to 718,000 followers.</p><p>"The second I saw it, I knew I had to make a video about it," @Zillowtastrophes host Jessica More told Insider via email. The listing agent for the property told Insider that it is a "versatile" investment, "to be able to pivot from residential to commercial leases, whichever market an owner feels is better."</p><p>The space is located within a commercial condominium called Grand Landing, which also features a Starbucks and Pilates studio, according to photos of the listing shown in the TikTok. The property was constructed in 1988, and the owner must also pay a $655 monthly HOA fee, <a href="https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/777-Grand-Ave-SUITE-204-San-Rafael-CA-94901/2068769551_zpid/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">per the listing</a>.</p> <p>"Be on the forefront of a new way to work in this incredible location in vibrant downtown San Rafael," it reads. "This recently converted live/work unit has a new kitchen, laundry, bathroom, freshly painted in an amazingly convenient location."</p><p>But inside, More was perturbed by the commercial-grade carpets, dropped ceiling, and kitchen fixtures "plopped" against a wall. She noted the sole bathroom has zero counter space and there's little room separating the toilet from the shower.</p><p>"I think living here might be just as soul-crushing — if not more soul-crushing — than working here," she said in the video. "Sorry, I do not want to live in the DMV. There are literally still stains on the ceiling."</p><p>More added that the architects didn't bother closing off the glass panels formerly designating meeting rooms and offices. And outside, a living area features a bleak white table under a rooftop she surmised was littered with cigarette butts.</p><p>Commenters echoed her gripes about the space's disconcertingly thin boundary between work and home.</p><p>"Super cozy and welcoming," one wrote sarcastically. "I've always wanted the experience of an airplane bathroom in my own home!" another added.</p><p>That said, some were enticed by the property. "I can see the potential in this space," one commenter said. "I'd want it! Plus, it's in my childhood neighborhood, pronounced San Ra-Fell."</p><p>"A lot of people in the comments are discussing how they'd consider it," More said. "Even more depressing than the fact that this is seen as a 'good price' by the people in the area is the fact that the seller/agents/landlords feel so confident in the lack of affordable housing in their area that they didn't bother changing the carpeting or making adequate changes to actually convert this to a living space." </p><p>When reached, Jeanette Cling, the listing agent for the property, told Insider she believes it is "a great separation of work from home space," and that it can be a valuable and flexible property in the future.</p><p>"Marin County is a very expensive area to live. The owner created entry-level housing in a very convenient, secure building close to the freeway," Cling said over email. "This unit has two separate entrances creating a great separation of work from home space."</p><p>Additionally, she said, the lack of transformation inside makes it easy to convert back to an office, if needed.</p><p>"As far as an investment goes, the conversion creates a versatile opportunity for an investor — to be able to pivot from residential to commercial leases — whichever market an owner feels is better."</p><p>While unused real estate is <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/that-swanky-place-youre-renting-likely-used-to-be-an-office-space-2022-11">increasingly being eyed for residential use</a>, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/office-prices-need-to-be-slashed-to-convert-to-apartments-2023-2">amid some hiccups</a>, some projects have proven more successful than others.</p><p>In April, a historic Milwaukee mall <a href="https://www.insider.com/tiktok-viral-tour-grand-avenue-milwaukee-mall-converted-apartments-2023-4">went viral on TikTok</a> after it had been converted into an apartment complex. By C Shyam Sundar <p> Chennai, May 20 () The 'big three' of the tennis world won't lose much due to the suspension of professional tours since they have already created their own legacies but the real struggle is for lower-ranked players, including the Indians, says legendary Vijay Amritraj. </p><p> The men's ATP Tour won't start before August and the WTA Tour is expected to resume not before July 20. </p><p> Amritraj said the trio of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafel Nadal, who have a tight grip over Grand Slam tournaments, won't feel any financial stress or the pressure of progress. </p><p> "They won't be affected at all by loss of money or points. They are all chasing each other on number of Grand Slams as they have legacies already in place. They have all made history in their own way," Amritraj told in an e-mail interaction. </p><p> The Indian tennis legend said the situation is tough for a large pool of players across the globe, specially the ones outside the top-100 bracket. </p><p> "Everyone in the tennis world will be affected. Players in various ranking categories will be affected in their own way. The lesser players will really struggle to make a strong comeback when this virus is contained. And older players will have lost crucial time," he said. </p><p> "The Indian players will also be affected exactly like the lower ranked players making it hard to get back in position of fitness, ranking points and cash on hand to get started quickly when it opens up." </p><p> Amritraj, who is also President of Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA), said whenever tennis action resumes, the most likely scenario would be that fans won't be able to watch live action. </p><p> "Tennis this year seems a bit distant though the US Open and the delayed French Open seem to still have a date in place. Will have to wait and see if it still happens. </p><p> "Tennis could potentially return with no fans rest of this year. That's also tentative depending on each country's situation. Social distancing and the fact that players come from different countries makes our sport tougher to run," he said. </p><p>On Wimbledon being cancelled this year owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, Amritraj, twice a quarterfinalist at the prestigious grass court tournament, said "it is a great disappointment". </p><p>"It's such a major event on the sporting calendar worldwide. Eagerly look forward to 2021," Amritraj, a noted commentator and who has been associated with Wimbledon for five decades, said. </p><p>To a question if the so-called pack of challengers which includes the likes of Australian Open finalist Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas and others were any closer to beating the 'Big Three', Amritraj said they were still some way behind. </p>"All the challengers are still catching up. They are the best behind the top three and there are several others as well. But until they start winning the Grand Slam events and that too on a regular basis, which they will, we have to wait and see how the top three maintain their winning record especially as age is not on their side," he said. <p>He still can't see colors. But now he can hear them with a device he helped create in 2004 called the Eyeborg.</p>
<p>The device c<span>an detect 360 colors the human eye can normally perceive. It also detects infrared light.</span></p>
<p>"Hearing colors changes the way you see everything," Harbisson says in a <a href="http://vimeo.com/51920182">Cyborg Foundation video</a>. </p>
<p>Harbisson says he finds the sounds generated by colors in supermarkets "stimulating."</p>
<p>He also turns music, like Justin Bieber's "Baby," for example, into vibrant paintings—translating the sounds of the song back into the colors he's learned to associate with them. </p>
<p>Harbisson says that he is the first legally recognized <keyword id="1079277" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Cyborg">cyborg</keyword> in the world, as his passport photo shows him with the Eyeborg attached to his head. </p>

The only reason I would come back is because I miss the competition of fighting the very best."</p><p>When pressed on who specifically he wanted to face, De La Hoya said he would fight either Gennady Golovkin or Floyd Mayweather Jr. De La Hoya lost to Mayweather by split decision back in 2007, which at the time was the most lucrative boxing match in history <a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=2865349">at more than $120 million in pay per view revenue</a>.</p><p>"I want to fight one of them because they are the best and I always fought the best," De La Hoya told ESPN. 42-year-old Oscar De La Hoya says he's 'very serious' about making a comeback to fight Floyd Mayweather

Smith -&#xa0;who originally reported that Mayweather texted him saying he'd be willing to give Manny Pacquiao&#xa0;a rematch - Mayweather&#xa0;is <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bit_y_U_uHQ">planning to use Berto as a "tuneup"</a> for a possible rematch against Pacquiao or a more formidable opponent.</p><p>"I've never believed [Mayweather was going to retire in September]. I don't believe that. I think Mayweather knows that," Smith said. "I think Mayweather is using this [fight with Berto] as a tuneup, and then he's going to give Manny Pacquiao a rematch.</p><p>"It's almost one of those things where it's a tuneup, it's going to be perceived as a cake-walk in a lot of people's eyes. And he's like, 'I'm Money Mayweather, I'm giving you me on free TV. You don't have to pay for it at all.
