Rivian's stock dropped as low as 9.7% on Wednesday before recovering some of the losses by the next day.On the campaign trail, the president-elect has also targeted the Biden administration's <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/inflation-reduction-act-how-it-reduces-price-growth-deficit-pressures-2022-8">Inflation Reduction Act,</a> which includes a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-trump-presidential-victory-could-mean-for-evs-tesla-musk-2024-7">$7,500 tax credit</a> for SUV and pickup truck EVs that cost $80,000 or less.Claire McDonough, Rivian's chief financial officer, said during the call that Rivian customers who qualify for the tax credit are largely those who lease. The CFO said the "lease penetration," or percentage of total cars sold through leases, was 42%.Rivian's R1S and R1T pickup trucks have a base price of $75,900 and $69,900 respectively, while the company plans to sell the R2 for $45,000."Given the price point of our vehicles and the overall income levels, most of our customers don't qualify on a financed or cash purchase," she said.RBC Capital Markets auto analyst Tom Narayan told Business Insider that he's concerned Rivian could lose the tax credit incentive under the new administration.A Rivian spokesperson declined to comment.Scaringe said during the call that Rivian also is on the lookout for potential policy impacts on the "upstream supply chain," which includes raw materials. "We are reviewing how the movie was selected."Qantas operates two flights a day between Sydney and Haneda. <ul class="summary-list"><li>North Carolina resident Michael Cusick and his Rivian R1T got caught in Hurricane Helene last week.</li><li>Cusick said his R1T not only survived but became an essential tool to help affected families.</li></ul>Michael Cusick used to be a diehard <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla">Tesla</a> fan, telling Business Insider that he had a beloved Model 3 and "traveled the country in that girl."But his experience with his <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/rivian-ugrades-r1-truck-suv-ev-more-power-range-speed-2024-6">Rivian R1T EV</a> truck following Hurricane Helene — a storm that ravaged the southeast, including Cusick's home in Asheville, North Carolina — has cemented his position as a new Rivian convert."I'd say absolutely I have been <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-vs-rivian">converted from a Tesla fan</a>," Cusick, 28, told BI in an interview. "I'm all-in on Rivian now, without a doubt."Cusick said that he purchased a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-much-is-a-tesla-model-3">Tesla Model 3</a> about two years ago and quickly put about 70,000 miles on it."I loved her. I came from a gas car, went to electric — oh my gosh," he said. "No gears, just instant torque. Plus, he said he figured he'd be safer from <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/track-hurricane-ian-live-updates-2022-9#hurricane-ian-weakens-to-category-2-with-a-catastrophic-storm-surge-105-mph-winds-and-flooding">natural disasters</a> if he moved about 400 miles inland.But at the end of September, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hurricane-helene-milton-tampa-florida-desantis-clean-disaster-dangerous-2024-10">Hurricane Helene</a> made landfall and worked its way up to Asheville — a town of about 95,000 people that was experiencing <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hurricane-helene-destroyed-asheville-genz-residents-rebuild-climate-safe-haven-2024-10">an influx of Gen Zers</a> and young residents like Cusick.Cusick said that by September 26, Asheville experienced a few days of rain and a "little bit of flooding," but everything was operating as usual. He decided to go out for a night of drinking downtown, leaving his Rivian parked on Tunnel Road next to the Swannanoa River.That night, his friend drove him home. By the next morning, Hurricane Helene flooded the entire city of Asheville, temporarily knocking out cellphone service. Gov. Roy Cooper later stated that at least six dozen people were killed in Buncombe County, where Asheville is located, according to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://apnews.com/article/hurricane-helene-fema-826effecab238ff0acf0556ad64b0df2">The Associated Press</a>."Where I live was completely flooded," Cusick said. "I couldn't even get out if I wanted to, let alone call somebody to take me back to my vehicle." Cusick said that it wasn't until September 28 that the floodwaters started to recede, and he managed to find cellphone service.When his friend drove him back to Tunnel Road, where his Rivian was parked, Cusick realized his car was missing."It was not where I parked and I started to freak out," he said. "I was like, 'Oh it's gone. It's gone. It's literally gone.'"EVs like the Rivian are equipped with trackers that allow drivers to find the location of their vehicles. Silt and mud from the Swannanoa River, Cusick said, had engulfed his truck.Relief briefly washed over Cusick, but he said he immediately assumed his car was totaled."There's no way in hell I'm going to be able to get into this thing and boot it right up," he recalled thinking.But when Cusick walked up to the vehicle, Rivian's door handle, which sits flush into the door panel much like a Tesla, popped out. Inside, the vehicle was "completely dry," Cusick said.He was able to get inside and start his truck."I probably have more questions than anyone," Cusick said. "I wasn't there for any of this. All I know is where I found the vehicle."A spokesperson for Rivian didn't respond to a request for comment from Business Insider. A Rivian spokesperson told <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://insideevs.com/news/735934/rivian-r1t-flood-hurrican-helene/">Inside EVs</a>, which earlier reported on Cusick's truck, that Rivian battery packs are sealed to provide floodwater protection."As part of our extensive battery testing, we also run salt spray tests to prove that our corrosion mitigations through the life of our packs are robust. "And I was like 'Hey, I got one. They're built into my car.'"Cusick said his generator helped power a food truck that was providing hot meals to local residents. He said it also helped power a chainsaw he would use to clear roads.On September 29, Cusick said a man interviewed him near downtown Asheville about his truck. By the beginning of October, Cusick's experience went <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1072169541181902&amp;id=100004158185937&amp;mibextid=SphRi8">viral</a>. Rivian soon reached out to Cusick, the Asheville resident said.The nearest Rivian service center is almost four hours away from Cusick, in Atlanta. All the ports have been placed at the back, giving a clean look on the sides. In terms of ports, the Alienware x16 R2 comes with an audio jack, a microSD card slot, a USB Type-C port with Thunderbolt 4, a Type-C 3.2 Gen port, 2 x Type-A USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports and a HDMI 2.1 port. As it is a gaming laptop, the company has employed several measures to keep the temperature down. It comes with the company’s Alienware Cryo-tech cooling technology. While the display lacks HDR support, it comes with Dolby Vision support, offering an excellent viewing experience. The lack of HDR may be an issue as this means you will miss out on HDR in games. The peak brightness is also on the lower side at 300 nits. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Performance" comment="subhead" text="Performance">Performance</cmsannotation> The Alienware x16 R2 is equipped with up to Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor. The Intel Core Ultra is a new Meteor Lake chipset from the company. The laptop is available with up to 32GB LPDDR5X 7467 MHz RAM and up to 4TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD. The graphic duties are handled by the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 16GB GDDR6 graphics. I tested the laptop with several games, including games such as Red Dead Redemption 2 and Forza Horizon 5. Both the games performed well and the laptop was able to handle them without any issues. The powerful hardware means that you will be able to run any game with the best graphics without even having to look at the system requirements for a long time. I was able to play games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Alan Wake 2 at the highest graphic settings without any issues. The laptop’s cooling technology can keep the device cool during extended gaming sessions so you don’t have to worry about performance throttling. The laptop is equipped with a 90Whr battery and offers a decent battery life considering it is a gaming laptop. It offers around six hours of battery life but this will significantly come down if you game on it. The Alienware x16 R2 offers a six-speaker setup with spatial audio. The device offers a good audio experience. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Verdict" comment="subhead" text="Verdict">Verdict</cmsannotation> The Alienware x16 R2 is a feature-packed laptop that offers powerful hardware, a good display and a decent battery life. The laptop also offers a good all-metal chassis with a minimalistic design but can also light up like a regular gaming laptop when you need it to. At the same time, the laptop is not very portable due to its large size and weight. If you want a laptop that you can easily carry around, this may not be the best option for you. Then again, If you are looking for a gaming laptop that you won’t carry around every day, the x16 R2 is a good option. The price is another thing that you need to consider. It is a very premium laptop and while it offers excellent hardware, you need to consider if it fits your budget. The following has been edited for length and clarity.I manage gaming partnerships for YouTube Brazil, including Nobru, who has over 15 million subscribers. I attended university in Brazil and did a postgraduate certificate in marketing at UCLA before starting at YouTube in 2021.For years, I've dreamed of going to Harvard to learn from <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sir-alex-ferguson-reveals-8-secrets-to-success-2013-9">Anita Elberse</a>. She designed The Business of Entertainment, Media, and Sports course in 2013 and is a rock star in the entertainment industry. I wanted to know what she was teaching the world's best executives.I got the chance to take her course this year, and it was amazing.<h2 id="438ade45-36a5-4987-b0cf-5682aae104fb">It's a four-day course for professionals not enrolled at Harvard Business School</h2>The course costs $12,500, which includes all accommodation and meals, and it's worth every cent. Google covered around 40% of the course as part of the company's education benefits program, but I had to pay for the remainder myself.The online application asks what you want to learn from the course and what you can contribute to the class based on your previous experience in your industry. My primary objective was to elevate my leadership and strategic management capabilities. I wanted to understand global trends, challenges, and untapped business opportunities for those I look after.I spent a whole weekend working on the application because I wanted to do it so badly, and it took about a month or two to hear that I had been accepted. I referenced my experience helping celebrities and creators expand their online presence while developing new revenue channels for their businesses.<h2 id="4a06e028-3f44-466b-a73a-88edbf978fda">I flew to Boston in early June</h2>There were about 80 of us from all over the world in various industries. My classmates were of all ages and at different stages in their careers, up to and including CEOs.I met people in the music and sports industries who had the same problems and challenges as I did, such as securing exclusive content agreements and managing distribution rights.Another common challenge is talent management. There's a shared need to effectively navigate talent contracts, negotiations, and maintaining strong relationships to ensure mutual growth and success.All students have their own rooms on campus, with several rooms attached to an apartment. Learning groups consist of students from the same course, so during working group hours, we discussed case studies before going to class.<h2 id="5bac8cc4-f187-455f-9bd3-f13473f75a63">There were several celebrities in the class with me</h2>My course had a former professional soccer player, a comedian, and a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-floated-migrant-league-fighters-ufc-president-dana-white-2024-6">UFC</a> champion fighter. They were there to learn the business side of the industry as they move into the next stages of their careers.Learning from these people and people more closely aligned with my industry was really cool. It was fascinating to understand the perspectives of executives from the US compared to those from other countries regarding content acquisition, distribution rights, and talent management.I now also have access to an incredible network of people from all over the world. We have a WhatsApp group from the course, where we stay in touch. There's also a WhatsApp group for all the Brazilians who have done the course over the last 10 years to network.<h2 id="48627b1b-d2a3-4546-8693-38f901a8f13b">The course went from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday to Saturday, but we had about eight case studies to read beforehand</h2>There is no option to take it online — you must be there in person.I spent about two weeks before I arrived reading all of the material Anita had sent us. It was very intense. Before the first day, we had to be prepared with answers and questions for each case and on top of the data and information.<h2 id="da23fd84-c910-4dc5-97e4-fd88f7ffb6bb">I found the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.hbs.edu/faculty/Pages/item.aspx?num=63941">case study on MrBeast</a> to be the most interesting and useful for my work</h2>Anita explained a lot about the process that <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tech-world-captivated-with-mrbeast-training-document-founder-mode-2024-9">MrBeast</a> uses in his company to make a video, from producing the scripts and selecting the right one to pre-production and post-production, down to creating thumbnails for his videos to test the numbers. He's very data-driven.<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/youtuber-mrbeast-embroiled-in-controversy-involving-staff-amazon-show-2024-8">He's considered the standard for the platform</a>, and I found it valuable to learn how he's not simply making a profit but creating a brand for himself.<h2 id="b2380abc-6ef1-410c-914d-e31c7872a9a5">Other case studies included Beyoncé, Lionel Messi, and David Beckham</h2>We also had two exceptional guest lecturers: <a target="_blank" href="https://www.hbs.edu/faculty/Pages/profile.aspx?facId=240491">Karim R. Lakhani</a>, who led insightful sessions on AI and its role in the entertainment industry, and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.hbs.edu/faculty/Pages/profile.aspx?facId=98534">Kristin W. Mugford</a>, a finance specialist who presented a fascinating case study on Beyoncé.The lecturers explained how, after these superstars reach the top in their field, they can stay relevant in the industry, even when they stop playing or making music. This was relevant to my work with gamers and content creators.<h2 id="d4e23719-2055-4694-9450-6055cea69798">I've already been able to put some of the things I learned into action</h2>I've started implementing the strategies we discussed during the BEMS course. I'm focusing more on diversifying content to cater to shifting audience preferences and leveraging data analytics to understand these trends better. I'm also encouraging talents to collaborate across different sectors, which can introduce them to new audiences and opportunities.Another crucial strategy is helping creators launch their own brands to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-create-more-revenue-streams-make-money-passive-income-2024-3">diversify their revenue streams</a>.
