Under the initiative, the third cohort of selected startups will benefit from the mentorship and insights of industry leaders, as well as masterclasses on intellectual property (IP), marketing, and more. Launched in 2020, the 'Qualcomm Women Entrepreneurs India Network' has empowered 25 early-stage women-led startups over the last two years. "Women-led organisations often bring a new perspective to innovative problem solving, not only creating profitable businesses but also delivering societal good," said <keyword id="4225948" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="varsha-tagare" source="Orion">Varsha Tagare</keyword>, Senior Director, Ventures, Qualcomm Technologies. The programme aims to support the entrepreneurial efforts of female innovators in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The third cohort will benefit from increased visibility among the startup ecosystem through a curated demo day and the opportunity to connect with various government bodies and network with industry leaders, VCs, investors, industry associations and other accelerators. "Startups are important value creators for the economy, providing impetus to India's innovation goals. Qualcomm India joins WEP to empower 8 women-led startups

Recently, Airtel became India's first telco to demonstrate 5G over a LIVE commercial network in the city of Hyderabad. An Airtel statement said that through its network vendors and device partners, the telecom will utilise the Qualcomm 5G RAN platforms to roll-out virtualised and Open RAN-based 5G networks. "Airtel, as a board member of the O-RAN Alliance, is committed to driving the success of O-RAN and is working with Qualcomm Technologies to explore and implement the O-RAN approach for India," it said. The flexible and scalable architecture of O-RAN will create new opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses to become viable players in the deployment of 5G networks, it added. In addition, Airtel and Qualcomm Technologies will collaborate to enable a wide range of use cases, including 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) that is designed to deliver broadband connectivity at <keyword id="209297" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="gigabit">Gigabit</keyword> speeds to homes and businesses. This collaboration also aims to allow a faster rollout of broadband services in a cost effective and expeditious manner across India for "last mile" connectivity challenges. Airtel to collaborate with Qualcomm for 5G rollout in India

New Delhi, May 19 () Qualcomm India on Tuesday committed USD 1.5 million (about Rs 11.3 crore) towards the country's efforts to tackle the spread of COVID-19 infection. The contributions will be made towards PM CARES Fund, and multiple relief and public healthcare infrastructure initiatives, a statement said. The public healthcare infrastructure efforts include enabling broader availability of COVID-19 test kits, preventive health screening, helping front-line police forces and healthcare workers with sanitization and personal protective equipment as well as relief work supporting feeding the needy and at-risk in various regions across India, it added. "We are living in unprecedented times and the need of the hour is for all of us to come together and stand as a united force in fighting this pandemic. As a community, we will need to continue to work together to create solutions that address future challenges with insight and compassion," Rajen Vagadia, Vice President of Qualcomm India and President, Qualcomm India and SAARC, said. In addition, Qualcomm India employees, in their individual capacity, have been active contributors towards various community outreach and relief efforts, including personal contributions. COVID-19: Qualcomm India commits USD 1.5 mn to support India's efforts against pandemic

India is the second largest developing market in the world for mobile broadband devices. Much of it comprises of men, who use a smartphone. The study states only 30% of the working <keyword id="624" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Women">women</keyword> interviewed were using a smartphones. 
 
Women in India are still using older and outdated techniques of communication according to the study. More than 57% of Indian women purchased a mobile phone more than 2 years ago. This leaves a large gap to be covered that mobile phone vendors can quickly grab by producing women centric smartphones and services. 
 Qualcomm <keyword id="44451" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="report">report</keyword> also says “Among feature phones owners, 36% report they have no plans to buy a smartphone. These women view smartphones as either too complicated (44%) or too expensive (39%). However, many women indicate they would be more inclined to purchase a smartphone if they received lessons on how to use it”. 
 Now the onus of carrying out the task to teach the women and bringing female friendly phones lies on the retailers as well as the makers. Qualcomm announces a new Internet of Things suite, aimed at smart cities and connected spaces

New Delhi, Jan 21 () US-based Qualcomm on Tuesday said 4G will continue to be relevant over the next few years and unveiled a new lineup of mobile chipsets for 4G smartphones in the country.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G, 662 and 460 promise to offer enhanced user experiences across connectivity, gaming and entertainment. 
"While we see a fast adoption of 5G across geographies globally, we do recognise the phenomenal boost that 4G has given towards enabling broadband connectivity for Indian consumers. 4G will stay relevant for quite sometime," Rajen Vagadia, vice-president and president, Qualcomm India, said.
He added that for regions like India, 4G will stay a key technology for connectivity.
"Our goal is to enable our partners to continue creating solutions that offer seamless connectivity access and exceptional mobile experiences," he said.
Asked about 5G, Vagadia said smartphones powered by the latest technology should make their way into the Indian market in the first half of this year. 
While these smartphones are expected to be available in the mid and premium range, they would become more affordable as they get more affordable, he said adding that roll out of 5G networks would also be an important factor. 
The new chipsets unveiled on Tuesday - which will be deployed by handset makers on smartphones across various price points - are designed to enable fast 4G connectivity speeds, deliver key Wi-Fi 6 features and integrated Bluetooth 5.1 with advanced audio via the Qualcomm FastConnect 6-series subsystems and support Dual-Frequency (L1 and L5) GNSS to improve location positioning accuracy and robustness.
These are also the first system-on-chip solutions to support Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC).
Developed by Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro), NavIC is the Indian version of GPS. Apart from popular GPS, there are other satellite navigation systems like GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou. 
Chinese smartphone brands Xiaomi and Realme said they will soon launch devices with NavIC support, based on these new Snapdragon chipsets.
 "The availability of NavIC across multiple mobile platforms will help enhance the geolocation capabilities of smartphones in the region and bring the benefits of this indigenous solution to Indian consumers for their day-to-day use," ISRO Chairman K Sivan said. SR MR

4G will continue to remain relevant for quite sometime: Qualcomm

Global chipmaker <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Qualcomm+Incorporated+">Qualcomm Incorporated</a> has appointed former chief of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=BlackBerry">BlackBerry</a> India, <keyword id="963741" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sunil-Lalvani">Sunil Lalvani</keyword> as vice president and president of Qualcomm India. 
 Lalvani's appointment will be effective from July 27 and he will directly report to <keyword id="2882458" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Cristiano-Amon">Cristiano Amon</keyword>, executive vice president and co-president, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc, reported the Economic Times. 
 
"I am pleased to welcome Sunil Lalvani as vice president and president of Qualcomm India. His broad industry experience and extensive leadership experience will enable us to strengthen existing strategic relationships, identify new opportunities for business growth and build new relationships in India," Amon said. 
 
The company took the decision to appoint Lalvani after Avneesh Agrawal, senior vice president and president of Qualcomm India and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=South+Asia+">South Asia</a> exits the company. 
 
Lalvani, who holds a bachelor's degree in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=electronics">electronics</a> engineering from <keyword id="201207" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bombay-University">Bombay University</keyword> and a post graduate diploma in marketing management from Xavier's Institute of Management, India, has more than 20 years of experience in sales, business development, strategic planning and business operations across the IT and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=telecom+">telecom</a> sectors. 
 Earlier, Lalvani was responsible for overseeing and driving <keyword id="6354356" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="BlackBerry">BlackBerry</keyword>'s overall business strategy and growth in India. He was focused on driving differentiated solutions for consumers and enterprise customers. He was also instrumental in leading a strong engagement with Carrier partners and ISV's in India, to drive uptake of BlackBerry's services portfolio in the India region. 
 Prior to that, Lalvani held the position of director of enterprise sales. With its headquarter base in Bangalore, LeEco India in under 6 months already employs more than 200 people and aims to become over 1000 people-strong by the end of 2016. LeEco is also setting up in-house Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) in 10 cities across India which will be implemented by end of 2016.
