<ul><li>The <keyword id="6355833" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="united-nations">United Nations</keyword> declared December 3 as the International Day of <keyword id="6534205" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="persons-with-disabilities">Persons with disabilities</keyword> (PWD) to promote the rights and well-being of disabled people. </li><li>Over 2% of Indians are differently-abled or have some sort of disability, according to the National Statistical Office (NSO). </li><li>Accenture skilled over 23,000 persons with disabilities in India. </li><li>Uber has 12 employee resource groups — including ‘Able at Uber’ — a community for employees living with disabilities.</li></ul>The United Nations declared December 3 as the International Day of Persons with disabilities (PWD) to promote the rights and well-being of disabled people. This is despite a regulation that says PSUs must hire 4% of its employees from the category. “Differently abled people, if skilled for the appropriate job roles, can perform better or at par with other employees. Employers with disabled workers consistently report that, as a group, persons with disabilities perform at par or better than their non-disabled peers on measures such as productivity, safety and attendance,” Neeti Sharma, senior vice president of TeamLease Services told Business Insider India. Indian companies too are trying hard to address diversity and inclusion at workplace. Technology major Accenture recognizes more than 60 types of disabilities as per the UN recommendations. Accenture has skilled over 23,000 persons with disabilities in India. It also rolled out a six-month internship to create a skilled talent pool of persons with disabilities. Ride-hailing platform Uber is also promoting cultural values at workplace to boost participation. The idea is to support physical, mental, and emotional disabilities of employees. “Each employee is encouraged to bring their authentic self to work and can personally drive change by volunteering in one of our 12 employee resource groups. These include ‘Able at Uber’ — community for employees living with disabilities,” Uber said. But companies and organizations need to come together to change the dismally low employment numbers. And a mindset change needs to come in as well. “It’s important to educate teams about the realities of the conditions the differently abled employees come with. Teams may require training or workshops on how to improve and diversify their communication styles and more effectively mentor, lead, and communicate with employees with disabilities,” added Neeti from TeamLease Services. Here’s how Uber, Accenture are improving diversity by employing specially-abled persons

New Delhi, Jun 15 () The Delhi government Monday directed its Public Works Department to install within 24 hours CCTV cameras in COVID-19 wards of its all coronavirus-designated hospitals here. The order came soon after Union Home Minister Amit Shah directed Delhi Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Dev to install CCTV cameras in COVID-19 wards of every designated hospital in the national capital for proper monitoring of services and ensuring patients' issues are resolved. "It is hereby directed that Covid wards in all Covid Hospitals of Delhi Government shall have CCTV cameras for efficient monitoring and supervision of patient care," said the order issued by Delhi government's Health Department.. It said the PWD will install CCTV cameras in all COVID-19 wards within 24 hours and submit a compliance report through pshealth@nic.in. After paying a surprise visit to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) hospital here earlier in the day, Shah also suggested psychosocial counselling of doctors and nurses engaged in the service of humanity through the fight against coronavirus. Delhi govt asks its PWD to install CCTV cameras in COVID-19 wards within 24 hours

Lucknow, Apr 12 () The Public Works Department (PWD) of Uttar Pradesh has been serving food to the needy and the poor twice a day in all 75 districts of the state since the lockdown was imposed to combat coronavirus, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said on Sunday. Community kitchens have been set up for this purpose at PWD guest houses in the districts and care is being taken to ensure the quality of food and adherence to social distancing norms, Maurya, who also holds the PWD portfolio, told here."The community kitchens are providing food to the needy persons in the districts twice a day. Dry rations are also being distributed from these community kitchens. These will continue to operate as long as the lockdown exists," he said.The community kitchens run by the PWD, the Bridge Corporation and the Rajkiya Nirman Nigam (an UP government undertaking) are also coordinating with the officials of the district administration, Maurya said.The UP deputy chief minister said the nationwide lockdown was essential to curtail the spread of the deadly virus and secure the future of the country.He urged people to follow the guidelines issued by the government and obey the lockdown norms."The Centre and the state government have already made arrangements to provide essential items to the public so that no one faces any problem," he said in a statement. PWD community kitchens feeding the needy in all 75 districts during lockdown: Up Dy CM Maurya

Every Delhiite has gone through the pain of finding and booking venues for wedding and other functions in the city. But soon they might get respite from the tedious task as Public Works Department (<keyword id="55856" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="PWD">PWD</keyword>), the premier agency of <keyword id="6354952" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Delhi-Government">Delhi government</keyword>, has launched a <a href="https://pwddelhi.com/UI/Booking/OnlineBookingDetail.aspx">trial version</a> of online booking of community centres and parks for marriages and other events. Once the trial is successfully completed and the deficiencies are met, the proper booking system would be up and running for actual use. 
 
"We have started the trial run of online booking system for community centres and open space/parks. With the launch of this project, Delhiites can book PWD's parks and community centres for marriage functions and other events online and even make payment through Internet. This project may be launched on 1 December," said a senior official from PWD. 
 
Presently, these venues can be booked only by visiting the Delhi Secretariat office, and thus consumes a lot of time and efforts of citizens. The motive of launching the online booking system is to save time of the technologically sound citizens. Also, in the wake of a recent corruption scam whereby three tent operators were blacklisted by PWD on account of fraudulent bookings, this project will also help in bringing full-transparency in the venue booking process. 
 
Central and State government employees would have to book the venue 90 days before the function while those who are not employed with Central or State governments would have to book the venue 30 days prior to the function date. 
 
At present, PWD has over 12 community centres and open areas/parks located in Gulabi Bagh, Karkadooma, Kalyanvas and Timarpur.

<ul><li>Nearly 14,692,136 voters voters in the national capital are ready to cast their votes in the upcoming <keyword id="461643" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-assembly-elections">Delhi assembly elections</keyword> on February 8, 2020. </li><li>The citizens of Delhi, who don’t have a voter ID card or have lost it can also participate in the electoral process. </li><li>To register as an eligible voter, the citizen will need to provide a Form-6 to the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of your constituency. </li><li>The identity documents that can act as photo ID proofs to cast the vote include passport, PAN card, driving licence, aadhaar card, pension documents, bank passbook and employee ID cards — in case of government service.</li></ul>With just one day remaining for the Delhi assembly elections, 14,692,136 voters in the national capital are ready to cast their votes. As many as 672 candidates are contesting across 70 constituencies. The key contesting parties for the upcoming election on February 8 are Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress (INC). The political parties have been focusing on women-centric issues, statehood, clean air and water to woo voters. As the polling day nears, the confusion around the voter id cards, voter list, and polling booths is concerning the voters. The citizens of Delhi, who don’t have a voter ID card or have lost it can also participate in the electoral process. According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), it is mandatory for a citizen to be registered as a voter in the government database, in order to vote. For that, eligible voters will need to provide a Form-6 to the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of your constituency. This will update the voter’s name in the list for electoral polls. The ECI issues a voter slip for confirmation of those who don’t have a voter ID card. Delhi Election 2020: Don’t have voter ID? Carry these documents to the polling booth

<keyword id="12864" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chennai">Chennai</keyword>, Nov 25 Gusty winds and rains lashed parts of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday leaving several areas inundated and authorities have housed over one lakh people in shelters as severe cyclone '<keyword id="10317634" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="nivar">Nivar</keyword>' hurtled towards the coast. 'Nivar would intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm and it is likely to cross the coast between Tamil Nadu and Puducherry before dawn on Thursday, the India Meteorological Department said. With rains drenching parts of the state, authorities have evacuated over one lakh people and housed them in shelters besides disconnecting power supply in vulnerable areas as a precautionary measure. While <keyword id="4430550" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chief-Minister-K-Palaniswami">Chief Minister K Palaniswami</keyword> declared Thursday a public holiday for 13 districts, a <keyword id="6473907" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="government-order">government order</keyword> included three more districts considering the safety of people in view of the cyclone. Revenue Minister <keyword id="6435760" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="r-b-udhayakumar">R B Udhayakumar</keyword> said 1,03,291 people including children have been housed in 1,000 relief centres. Food, water and all other essentials including masks to help prevent coronavirus have been made available to them in the relief centres, he said. A senior official said subsequently, the number has increased to 1,21,152. According to the government, these people have been housed in shelters at Ariyalur, Chengelpet, Chennai, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Perambalur, Ranipet, Thanjavur, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruvarur, and Villupuram districts. As a precautionary measure, electricity distribution was stopped to consumers in several regions falling under such districts and especially areas that have overhead power transmission lines witnessed power cut since noon. Civic authorities meanwhile removed banners and hoardings in several districts including Chennai and Vellore expecting squally winds. Police personnel placed barricades in arterial roads and important intersections in coastal districts to bar movement of vehicles and the government appealed to the people to stay indoors. Chennai airport authorities said Aircraft operations at the airport will remain suspended from 7pm of November 25 till 7am of November 26. The decision was taken considering the safety aspect of passengers and the severity of the approaching cyclone, they said. Southern Railway said eight trains including the Danapur - KSR Bengaluru Special were diverted skipping Chennai and 10 trains including the Chennai Central-Coimbatore Special were cancelled. The Chennai Metro Rail, which operated minimum services, said operations would end by 8 pm and services would resume tomorrow depending on the weather. In its latest bulletin, the IMD said Nivar would cross over betwen Karaikal and Mamallapuram "during the midnight of November 25 and early hours of 26 November." The storm, 250 km off Chennai and 190 km and 180 km from Puducherry and Cuddalore respectively, is very likely to move northwestwards and cross coasts as a "very severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 120-130 kmph gusting to 145 kmph." Under the influence of the cyclone, coastal and north interior Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kariakal regions are likely to receive rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy showers at a few places and extremely heavy rains at isolated places. South coastal Andhra Pradesh is also likely to witness showers at most places today. Rainfall is expected to continue in many places in these regions on Thursday too with heavy rainfall at some places. Surplus water was released from Chembarambakkam lake, one of the key drinking water sources to the city, since it almost neared its full level, the government said. PWD officials said 1000 cusecs was released from the lake as the level stood at 22 feet of the total 24 feet. Chennai and its suburbs, which received heavy overnight rains, continued to witness intermittent showers coupled with strong winds with low-lying areas getting inundated and water entering houses in such localities. The government said it has nominated IAS official V Arun Roy to oversee relief activities in Chengelpet district. Civic body officials said stagnant water was pumped out by deploying heavy duty motors and fallen trees were being removed immediately. Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Tiruvannamalai, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Chennai, Chengelpet, Tiruvallur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Nagapattinam are the districts where the holiday is applicable tomorrow and Wednesday has already been declared a holiday.

Cyclone Nivar likely to cross coast tonight, TN CM declares one more day holiday

New Delhi, Jul 25 () The Delhi government has started implementing the schemes announced under its 'Deshbhakti budget', with officials saying up to five high-mast Tricolours will be installed in the city by August 15. The Public Works Department (PWD) has been tasked with the project under which it will install the national flag on 100-feet high polls at 500 locations in the city. Officials said that initially they will install high-mast Tricolours at about five locations in as many constituencies as a sample exercise. "To celebrate the country's 75th Independence Day, we are planning to set up high-mast Tricolours in 4-5 assembly constituencies including New Delhi and Patparganj. We are hoping to set up these by August 15. In total, the PWD will install 500 such flags across the city," said a senior PWD official, who wished not to be named. In March this year, the Delhi government had announced its annual budget themed on patriotism and named 'Deshbhakti budget' under which Rs 45 crore has been set aside to install high-mast Tricolour at 500 locations across the national capital. Officials said that high-mast flags will be set up on the lines of the one at the Connaught Place in such a fashion that at least one is visible at every two-three kilometres. A PWD official said that a tender for the project has also been floated. Another senior PWD official said that initially five assembly constituencies have been identified where these flags are to be installed by August 15. These assembly constituencies include New Delhi, Patparganj, Shakurbasti, Kalkaji and Dwarka. New Delhi is Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's constituency while his deputy Manish Sisodia is elected from Patparganj. Shakurbasti is represented in the assembly by PWD minister Satyendar Jain. "The PWD has also been directed to conduct a survey and identify public places, parks, grounds, big commercial buildings complexes, big school premises, residential complexes to install high-mast Tricolours. New Delhi, Nov 22 (IANS) To improve the national capital's air quality, the Delhi government on Sunday said it has installed 23 anti-smog guns at key intersections and construction sites across the city, and assured that this number will be increased, if necessary. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that the Public Works Department (PWD) has installed these 23 anti-smog guns. He also said that PWD officials have also been instructed to sprinkle water on trees, roads and on the construction sites to combat dust pollution. "A total of 150 water tankers have been deployed for sprinkling water," Rai said. "I have also instructed the PWD officials to increase the number of tankers further so that all the key roads of Delhi can be covered. If necessary, we will install more anti-smog guns as well at the key intersections of Delhi." The Delhi government this year has launched a massive anti-pollution campaign - 'Yuddh Pradushan Ke Viruddh' - which is being led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Rai. However, pollution levels breached the emergency threshold twice this month here with a grey apocalyptic smog enveloping the city for days, blotting out the sun and obsuring landmarks. To curb increasing pollution, the Delhi government had on November 5 also banned the sale and use of all kinds of firecrackers in the city till November 30. The National Green Tribunal had also imposed a total ban on sale or use of all kinds of firecrackers in the National Capital Region from November 9 midnight to November 30 midnight. Sources in the government said that over 70 lakh litres of water was sprinkled at 13 pollution hotspots in the past 36 days by the Delhi Fire Service to hold down dust as a measure to improve the deteriorating air quality in the city. The drive began on October 17 following orders from the Delhi government to check the dust pollution in the city, said the officials. Delhi's Fire Service Department has been also participating in the exercise and springling about two lakh litres of water on city's roads, construction sites and other key places regularly. Mumbai, In a <keyword id="4581641" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="major-relief">major relief</keyword> for Marathas, the <keyword id="73607" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maharashtra-cabinet">Maharashtra cabinet</keyword> on Wednesday decided to provide <keyword id="6361164" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="reservation">reservation</keyword> to the community under <keyword id="10349135" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-economically-weaker-sections">the Economically Weaker Sections</keyword> (EWS) category for educational admissions and jobs. The 10% EWS quota is earmarked for those who are not covered under any social reservations. Notably, the implementation of the quota for the Maratha community under the SEBC (Socially and <keyword id="1194419" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Economically-Backward-Class">Economically Backward Class</keyword>) category was stayed by the Supreme Court, which was challenged by the <keyword id="51011" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="state-government">state government</keyword>. The next hearing of the case before the constitutional bench of the apex court is scheduled on January 25 next year. In another decision, the state Cabinet gave its nod to a project for the preservation and conservation of ancient temples in the state. The state PWD department will implement the project, an official release said. The announcement for preservation and conservation of ancient temples was made by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in the recently-held winter session of the state legislature. The Cabinet also decided to mark January 3 as "Women's Education Day" to commemorate the birth anniversary of social reformer Savitribai Phule. In another decision, the Cabinet gave its consent to waive the license fees for liquor shops for the period of their closure during the coronavirus-induced lockdown. New Delhi, <keyword id="6360099" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-university">Delhi University</keyword> released the fifth and final cut-off list for its ongoing admission process for undergraduate courses. However, seats for most of the courses are already full but some seats under PWD, SC, OBC and ST quota are still vacant. Delhi University Registrar Vikas Gupta on Saturday said, "Fifth and last cut-off list released by the university will be displayed in various colleges from Monday. The admissions as per the fifth cut-off list will begin on Monday and will continue till Wednesday." Admissions to Hansraj, Hindu and Lady Shri Ram colleges of Delhi University are already closed while admissions to some colleges like Bharti College, College of Vocational Studies, Deshbandhu, Daulatram, Kirori Mal, Venkateswara College, Aurobindo College, Shyamlal College, Ramjas and Rajdhani College are still open. Delhi University releases fifth cut-off list

New Delhi, Mar 8 () Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Monday presented a report card of the AAP government's 2020-21 budget which showed that projects under the Directorate of Education, including installation of CCTV cameras at 459 government schools, were "on track". Sisodia presented the fourth consecutive report card of the government in the Delhi Assembly on the progress and achievements of schemes, programmes and projects up to December 2020 under the 'Outcome Budget'. The 'Outcome Budget' was introduced in 2017-18 as a tool linking the budget with outcomes to capture the progress of various schemes, programmes and projects and final deliverables from the citizens' perspective. The 'Outcome Budget' for 2020-21 showed that out of 44 critical indicators of the Directorate of Education, 84 per cent were "on track". The highlights of the directorate have been the admission of 35,275 EWS students in private schools, providing mid-day meals to 7.87 lakh students of primary and upper primary classes of government schools, and installing CCTV cameras in 459 out of 728 government school buildings. The report card also noted that for Class 12, the government schools recorded a pass percentage of 97.92 per cent during academic session 2019-20 as compared to 94.24 per cent the previous year and for Class 10, the pass percentage of government schools was 82.61 per cent as compared to 71.58 per cent the previous year. For Higher Education, the report card showed that 84 per cent of the indicators covering 13 programmes were "on track" which included 80 per cent progress in the construction work of the east campus of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. A total of 8,248 new students were enrolled in 2020-21 in the 12 sponsored colleges of Delhi University fully funded by Delhi government against 7,539 students admitted during 2019-20. A total of 3,760 students have been provided financial assistance during 2020-21 under the 'Merit cum Means Linked Financial Assistance Scheme', the report said. The Public Works Department recorded 73 per cent indicators as on track, it said. The PWD completed the target of installing 1.32 lakh CCTV cameras in Phase-II in common public places for general public safety in various assembly constitutions. The flyover at Shastri Park intersection and Seelampur was completed and opened to public on October 19,2020. While 68 per cent work of widening of bridge on Najafgarh drain at Basai Darapur to cover the complete ROW was completed up to December 2020, only 56 per cent construction was finished of two vehicular half underpass between Wazirabad and Jagatpur and one pedestrian subway near Gandhi Vihar on Outer Ring Road, it said. Only 40 per cent of the construction of an underpass at Ashram Chowk was completed, it said. The PWD also established 7,000 hotspots till December 2020, the report said.The 'Outcome Budget' breaks down the performance of each major scheme and programme of the Delhi government into two kinds of indicators. The first is the output indicators which determines services or infrastructure that government departments are required to provide. The other indicator - outcome indicators - shows exactly how people have benefitted from those schemes. All the output and outcome Indicators are expressed in quantifiable and measurable numbers, along with timelines for capital projects. Progress of each department on the basis of the performance of output and outcome indicators has been graded as "On-Track" if they have made about 75 per cent of the progress and "Off-Track" if achievement is less than 75 per cent of proportionate target under the reference review period. The 'Outcome Budget' 2020-21 has covered all major departments and agencies combined into eight major sectors. There are a total number of 595 schemes which contain 1,391 unique output indicators and 1,122 unique outcome indicators.
