The total remuneration of ITC Chairman and Managing Director <keyword id="1968926" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sanjiv-puri" source="Orion">Sanjiv Puri</keyword> was increased 53.08% to ₹16.31 crore for financial year 2022-23. Puri drew a basic salary of ₹2.88 crore, perquisites and other benefits of ₹57 lakh and a performance bonus/long-term incentives/commission of ₹12.86 crore from ITC for 2022-23. A year ago, Puri's total remuneration was ₹10.66 crore, which included a basic salary of ₹2.64 crore, perquisites and other benefits of ₹49.63 lakh. However, his performance bonus/commission was ₹7.52 crore only in FY22. During the annual general meeting scheduled for August 11, ITC has proposed a resolution for re-appointment of Puri as a director and also as managing director &amp; chairman for five years or till such earlier date to conform with the policy on retirement from July 22, 2024. Puri was appointed as Managing Director of ITC on July 22, 2019, and his present term will end on July 21, 2024. After Puri, Nakul Anand is the second highest-paid employee of ITC with a total remuneration of ₹8.18 crore for FY23. He is followed by B Sumant with ₹ 7.58 crore. Anand oversees the hospitality and travel &amp; tourism businesses of ITC, while Sumant oversees the paperboards, paper and packaging as well as the personal care and education &amp; stationery products businesses of the company. According to ITC, "Remuneration of KMPs (Key Managerial Personnel) increased by 28% due to impact of revision in remuneration and payment of long-term incentives during the year." Moreover, the number of persons drawing a salary of more than ₹1 crore per annum was over 245 in FY23. In FY22, the number of such employees was around 220. Compared with financial year 2021-22, the median remuneration of employees has decreased 3%, while the average remuneration of employees has increased by 6%. Puri's ratio of remuneration to the median remuneration of all employees is 326:1. As on March 31, 2023, the total number of permanent employees in ITC was 23,725.

Speaking at the CII Agro Tech summit 2022 here, <keyword id="4903" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="puri" source="Orion">Puri</keyword>, who is also a Chairman of the agro tech, said agriculture is the lifeline of the economy and roughly half of <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>'s workforce is engaged in this sector. However, its contribution to the gross value added (GVA) is only about 18 per cent with challenges such as low productivity and wastage, which translates to lower farm incomes. On challenges to the agriculture sector and the impact of climate change, Puri said: "Today the sector is faced with a challenge of epic proportions and it's not unique to this sector or to India. Last year many countries experienced events that dramatically reduced crop production. This year is no different, we have challenges in <keyword id="28249" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="europe" source="Orion">Europe</keyword>, China and the US and recently in Indonesia. We have a neighbour whose agriculture sector has been devastated." India has its own share of problems -- first with wheat and now with rice. Although there is a great commitment towards net zero by countries and corporates, the reality is that extreme weather events will only multiply as articulated by the IPCC report, he said. Elaborating on the opportunities for agriculture, Puri said by 2050 given the population growth and better consumption patterns, India will need 60 per cent more food. There is also a movement towards healthier and more nutritious food products that give the opportunity for value addition. Agriculture being a provider of bio-diesel which tackles climate change is another opportunity in India, he said. "India has the largest arable land in the world and there is a huge opportunity to multiply and grow our productivity levels. We are self-sufficient today and we also have the distinction of having exported Agri products worth $50 billion but I think we can do much more." On the pathways that Indian agriculture can traverse towards sustainable growth and productivity, Puri said, "There are some important pathways available to us to surmount the challenges. "One is the power of FPOs and the power of aggregation. The government of India has taken very far-sighted steps to promote FPOs with multi-dimensional schemes to support capacity building and value addition. This is the pivot that will transform Indian agriculture." It is one of the most coveted jobs in the Indian banking sector and market watchers are keenly awaiting who will be the chosen appointee. The HDFC Bank board had appointed a search committee and also engaged external headhunters to help it zero in on a candidate. "The Board of Directors of the Bank has today (Saturday) finalised the names of three candidates, in the order of preference, for the position of the managing director and chief executive officer (MD &amp; CEO) of the bank," the bank informed the bourses in a statutory filing. It did not elaborate on who the three were. A media report in the run up to the board meet had mentioned the names of Sashidhar Jagdishan, Kaizad Bharucha and Sunil Garg as the ones who had made the cut. Jagdishan and Bharucha are internal candidates, while Garg is working with American banking major Citigroup. Garg is the chief executive of Citi Commercial Bank, while Jagdishan is an additional director who heads the finance, human resources, legal and secretarial functions at HDFC Bank, and Bharucha is an executive director responsible for wholesale banking. Earlier this month, the Reserve Bank had asked for the appointments of both Jagdishan and Bharucha to be kept in abeyance, asking for the new chief executive to take a call on it. Puri had recently told reporters that his successor will be announced before April. "...the recommendations are with the search committee and before April, an appropriate person who will take the bank into the future will be announced," he had told reporters over a conference call last month.

He further said,"We (enterprises) are also users of a lot of societal resources. It's good that there is greater amount of interest, better trust amongst corporates, but I think the movement needs to be made much faster, the movement needs to be made much more inclusive, much more widespread." Houston: Petroleum minister <keyword id="19968713" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hardeep-Singh-Puri" source="keywords">Hardeep Singh Puri</keyword> lauded India's economic growth under Prime Minister <keyword id="19895781" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi" source="keywords">Narendra Modi</keyword>, saying the country has advanced from the 10th largest economy in 2014 to the 5th largest by 2019, surpassing the UK. Speaking at a community reception, organized by Consul General of India in Houston, D C Manjunath, at India House here, Puri emphasized Houston's pivotal role in the global energy sector, particularly in green hydrogen and aerospace. Expressing his thoughts about deepening <keyword id="22356868" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-India-collaboration" source="keywords">US-India collaboration</keyword> in the clean energy sector, Puri praised India's refining capacity and initiatives in biofuel blending, aiming to boost refining capacity to 300 million metric tons per annum. He termed the US-India Strategic Clean Energy Partnership as a cornerstone of future collaboration between the two countries. He acknowledged the political successes of Prime Minister Modi's party in the recent elections and said the country under Modi's regime has advanced from the 10th largest economy in 2014 to the 5th largest by 2019, surpassing the UK. The minister also pointed towards the Indian government's ambitious urban development initiatives, saying that the country has committed USD 25 billion (Rs 1.57 lakh crore) to urban schemes from 2017 to 2024. He compared this investment to constructing a new Chicago each year, illustrating the rapid expansion of urban infrastructure, including new metro systems and airports. He also noted that India's civil aviation sector is set to grow significantly, with the number of airports increasing from 74 to 150. Puri lauded Houston as a global hub for energy innovation and said events like "Howdy Modi" in 2019 showcased the strength of Indian-American relations. The minister paid tribute to the contributions of the Indian diaspora in various fields, particularly in medicine and engineering, while emphasizing the importance of maintaining cultural traditions, even while living abroad. He expressed gratitude for the warmth and hospitality received from the Indian community in Houston, acknowledging their role in enhancing India's global image.

 As the equities markets are drying up, Puri said that the economy will land in a cash flow problem, in an interview with CNBC TV 18. Puri asserts that the crisis in the economy is not a case of companies failing. “This is a cash flow problem that should be helped by the government,” he said.

Director of <keyword id="14439087" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="public-health-dr-g-srinivasa-rao" source="Orion">Public Health Dr G. Srinivasa Rao</keyword> on Tuesday said typhoid can be called 'pani puri' <keyword id="6361612" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Disease" source="Orion">disease</keyword>, and advised people to avoid it and other <keyword id="6361952" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Street-Food" source="Orion">street food</keyword> during the current rainy season to protect themselves from typhoid and other seasonal ailments. Referring to the habit of many people who gulp down several pieces of 'pani puri' at the roadside shops, he urged them not to ruin their health. "You may get pani puri for Rs 10-15 but tomorrow, you may end up spending Rs 5,000-10,000," he said. He said vendors should also pay special attention to hygiene and ensure use of safe drinking water. Rao pointed out that this year, more typhoid cases are being reported. During May, 2,700 cases were reported while this number stood at 2,752 during June. Contaminated food, water, and mosquitoes are identified as the main causes for seasonal diseases including malaria, acute diarrheal diseases (ADDs), and viral fevers, which have been reported in the past few weeks. This month alone, 6,000 diarrheal cases were registered across the state. Rao advised people to consume fresh food and boil their drinking water. He said since January, a total of 1,184 dengue cases have been reported in the state. Hyderabad alone accounted for 516 cases. Almost all the districts reported dengue cases. As many as 563 dengue cases were registered in June while in the first 10 days of this month, 222 cases were reported. The state is also reporting malaria cases. He said district medical and health officers have been directed to intensify anti-larval operations. He also urged people to observe every Friday as dry-day to eradicate mosquito menace. Rao also said though the number of Covid-19 cases has gone up during the last six weeks, people should not panic. He stated that Covid has entered an endemic stage, and the symptoms are common cold and fever. He also remarked that Covid has also become a seasonal disease. He said if anybody has Covid like symptoms, he should quarantine himself for five days. There is no need for Covid test if a person has no symptoms. The director of public health said only those Covid patients who have difficulty in breathing should be admitted to hospitals. He also cautioned private hospitals against doing platelet transfusions unnecessarily.
