The Mahindra Group company posted a net profit of Rs 493.9 crore in the year-ago period, according to an exchange filing. Revenue rose by 3.49 per cent to Rs 13,313.2 crore in the second quarter of 2024-25 compared to Rs 12,863.9 crore in the same quarter of 2023-24. "Other income includes gain on sale of property of Rs 4,502 million which comprises of freehold land and its related buildings along with the furniture &amp; fixtures sold for a consideration of Rs 5,350 million, receivable over a period of four years along with interest of 8.2 per cent p.a," the company filing said. Sequentially, net profit rose by 46.81 per cent and revenue by 2.36 per cent. "We continue to progress on our strategic improvement efforts even as the overall IT services industry has remained soft. "We have focused on strengthening client relationships and expanding the partner ecosystem while maintaining a sharp focus on operational excellence through project Fortius, which has resulted in an expansion of margins for the third sequential quarter," Tech Mahindra CEO Mohit Joshi said. The CEO unveiled Project Fortius in April, a three-year plan to achieve a 15 per cent operating margin with a focus on organic growth. "This quarter we see consistent performance around increasing deal wins, <keyword id="19965932" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="revenue-growth" source="keywords">revenue growth</keyword>, cost optimisation and steady free cash flow generation as we continue our journey towards FY27 stated targets. In line with our capital allocation policy the board has declared an interim dividend of Rs 15 per share," Tech Mahindra CFO Rohit Anand said. The company's TCV (<keyword id="23580531" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Total-Contract-Value" source="keywords">Total Contract Value</keyword>), or net new deal wins, stood at USD 603 million in the second quarter of FY25. Joshi further said the company is on the right path for a long-term sustainable transformation, with its leading indicators moving in the right direction, and its 'Scale at Speed' narrative resonating in the market. "We have invested in strengthening the capabilities in the focus service lines by broadening the leadership and investing in technical specializations. "We continue to invest in strengthening our fresher hiring program, building the right mindset and future skilling and associates, by building capabilities in AI-first and cloud-first skill sets," he told reporters. Investments shall continue in creating and sustaining an outcome-driven learning organisation and cultivating a high-performance culture based on the pillars of simplifying, clarifying, innovating and driving a high-performance orientation, he added. This year could be volatile because we are in the turnaround phase, Joshi said. "I am confident, however, that the platform is being set for a long-term, valuable franchise thanks to a high-calibre and united leadership team and a clearly articulated strategic plan," Joshi said. The Pune-headquartered firm added 6,653 employees during the quarter under review, bringing the total staff count to 1,54,273. Shares of Tech Mahindra settled at Rs 1,688 apiece on the BSE on Friday, down 0.68 per cent from the previous close. Tech Mahindra profit jumps over 2-times to ₹1,250 crore in Jul-Sep quarter

The woman, named <keyword id="23214242" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Anna-Sebastian-Perayil" source="keywords">Anna Sebastian Perayil</keyword>, was a <keyword id="20065808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chartered-Accountant" source="keywords">Chartered Accountant</keyword> who had joined EY in March this year. This was her first job. Her mother, in a letter to the company, expressed her sorrow at losing her daughter and said that she passed away due to immense work pressure. The letter has now gone viral on LinkedIn and people are reacting strongly to the news, calling to end the glorification of hustle culture. <h2>26-year-old dies, mother blames work stress </h2>In her letter to the company, Anna’s mother begins by writing that the young employee passed her CA Exams in November 2023 and joined the company in March this year. "She was full of life, dreams and excitement for the future," she added. She then writes how Anna was thrilled to be a part of the company but passed away four months later, on July 20. "My world collapsed when I received the devastating news," she wrote. In the letter, Anna's mother further explained how the work culture at EY is extremely toxic and that they burden newcomers with "backbreaking" tasks. She added that Anna experienced "anxiety, sleeplessness, and stress" soon after starting her new job. She also added how Anna was working even on the day of her convocation and insisted on getting back to work after they took her to a doctor after she complained of chest pain. "Since she had been complaining of chest constriction upon reaching her PG late at night for the past week, we took her to the hospital in Pune. Her ECG was normal and the cardiologist came to allay our fears, telling us she wasn't getting enough sleep and was eating very late." Anna's mother added that her manager would "reschedule meetings during cricket matches and assign her work at the end of the day." When Anna voiced her concerns, she was told that working late at night is something they all do. “Anna would return to her room utterly exhausted, sometimes collapsing on the bed without even changing her clothes, only to be bombarded with messages asking for more reports. She was putting in her best efforts, working very hard to meet the deadlines. She was a fighter to the core, not someone to give up easily. We told her to quit, but she wanted to learn and gain new exposure. However, the overwhelming pressure proved too much even for her,” the letter read. <h2>'No one attended her funeral'</h2> In addition to this, Anna's mother also wrote that nobody came to attend her funeral. The letter read, “ This absence at such a critical moment, for an employee who gave her all to your organization until her last breath, is deeply hurtful. Anna deserved better, and so do all the employees who continue to work under these conditions. "My heart aches not just for the loss of my child but also for the lack of empathy shown by those who were supposed to guide and support her. After her funeral, I reached out to her managers, but I received no reply. How can a company that speaks of values and human rights fail to show up for one of its own in their final moments?” <h2>Internet reactions</h2>The internet is reacting strongly to the news and various people have been sharing the letter with their own opinion. “Few managers really need to google the word HUMILITY and incorporate it into their lives. They are already destroying young Indian careers with toxicity, incompetence, and a lack of people management skills,” wrote Manisha Yadav, a CA finalist. “I hope people who did this to you get punished and shamed. I request everyone please take care of yourself, protect yourself. No Job is worth exploiting your mental and physical health,” wrote Fathima Shahjahan, an HR professional. “Very heart breaking to see young professional Anna Sebastian Perayil leaving us! We live in a world where it is difficult to be mentally strong as some things can worry us, affect us and hurt us,” wrote Prabhdeep Singh Baweja, a senior level employee at The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India

'The pressure became too much for her': Mother blames 'work stress' for 26-year-old EY employee's death

In an exclusive interaction with ANI Skoda Auto Brand Director Petr Janeba says Skoda's European bestseller, the Enyaq EV, was initially slated for an Indian debut this year but postponed to next year for an updated version. Janeba says a significant facelift planned for the model in March has led the company to hold off until the new version, featuring Skoda's latest design language, is ready. He said, "We have one of the best-selling EVs in Europe our European Enyaq. The car was tested, and the car was prepared for India. We have actually stopped bringing the car this year. Because there will be a huge facelift of the Skoda Enyaq coming in March following the new design language." He added, "We actually can choose one of the three EV cars coming to India or all three." Skoda is closely monitoring India's changing EV policies, especially the CAFE3 (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) norms set to be introduced in April 2027. On further investment in India Janeba highlighted the importance of a consistent regulatory environment, as state-level EV and hybrid tax policies currently vary widely, impacting long-term planning. "And within this plan, we understand nobody can survive in India without having a deeper localised CKD EV in India. We are ready for this. We are ready in Pune to make another investment for the car and for the production to get it. At the end of the day, we still take our time in order to decide the right measure car for the market, seeing the new competitors coming on the EVs." Said Janeba Skoda already has two manufacturing units in India, in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and Pune. EVs are planned to be manufactured in their Pune plant For the production, he stated, "In the same factory in Pune, Chakan we will be producing EVs. Currently we have increased because of the Kylaq the production capacity in Pune to 250,000 units a year and we will be increasing further once it is needed either for the current cars because of the export or because of the Indian demand or for the new cars like EVs." The facility is also set to support EV production with deep localisation efforts to make Skoda's electric lineup more affordable for Indian consumers. Piyush Arora, India CEO, Skoda Auto echoed this sentiment, expressing confidence that Skoda's expanded product offerings will capture the growing sub-four-meter SUV segment, a category that represents nearly 30 per cent of India's automotive market. "With the new Kodiaq and other upcoming models, we are aiming for a 5 per cent market share in the medium term," he added. Skoda's commitment to India extends beyond manufacturing. Arora highlighted the company's investment in local engineering talent and its dealer and supplier networks. "Our technical centre in India plays a crucial role in developing products like the Kodiaq, which was fully designed in India," he noted, calling it a testament to India's engineering prowess and the company's long-term vision for the region. Skoda plans to launch an updated electric vehicle in India in 2025

Infosys sent emails to these graduates on Monday, confirming that they would start their employment on October 7, 2024. <h2>Infosys sends joining date confirmation to freshers</h2>Thousands of students from the April 2022 batch were left in limbo after participating in two rounds of pre-training in July and August. These students received an offer letter from Infosys two years back, but never got a confirmation about their joining date. Now, as per a report in ET, Infosys has finally given them a date of joining. The report reveals that students got an email from the company's recruiters that says, “Your scheduled date of joining the employment of the Company will be October 07,2024. Leading multiplex operator <keyword id="19986619" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="PVR-INOX" source="keywords">PVR INOX</keyword> plans to close 70 <keyword id="22996404" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="non-performing-screens" source="Orion">non-performing screens</keyword> in FY25 and will go for potential <keyword id="20069509" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="monetisation" source="keywords">monetisation</keyword> of non-core <keyword id="20478737" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="real-estate-assets" source="keywords">real estate assets</keyword> in prime locations such as Mumbai, Pune, and Vadodara, according to its latest annual report. Though the company will add 120 new screens in FY25, it will also close almost 60-70 non-performing screens, as it chases for <keyword id="738150" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="profitable-growth" source="Orion">profitable growth</keyword>. About 40 per cent of new screens addition will come from South India, where it will have a "strategic focus" on this lesser penetrated region as per its medium to long-term strategy. Moreover, <keyword id="799" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="PVR" source="Orion">PVR</keyword> <keyword id="6407732" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="INOX" source="Orion">INOX</keyword> is redefining its growth strategy by transitioning towards a capital-light growth model to reduce its capex on new screens addition by 25 to 30 per cent in the current fiscal. Now, PVR INOX will partner with developers to jointly invest in new screen capex by shifting towards a franchise-owned and company-operated (FOCO) model. It is also evaluating monetisation of owned real estate assets, as the leading film exhibitor aims to become "net-debt free" company in the foreseeable future. "This involves a potential monetisation of our non-core real estate assets in prime locations such as Mumbai, Pune, and Vadodara," said Managing Director Ajay Kumar Bijli and Executive Director Sanjeev Kumar addressing the shareholders of the company. In terms of growth, they said the focus is to speed up expansion in underrepresented markets. "Our company's medium to long-term strategy will involve expanding the number of screens in South India due to the region's high demand for films and comparatively low number of multiplexes in comparison to other regions. We estimate that approximately 40 per cent of our total screen additions will come from South India," they said. During the year, PVR INOX opened 130 new screens across 25 cinemas and also shut down 85 under-performing screens across 24 cinemas in line with its strategy of profitable growth. "This rationalisation is part of our ongoing efforts to optimise our portfolio. The number of closures seems high because we are doing it for the first time as a combined entity," said Bijli. PVR INOX's net debt in FY24 was at Rs 1,294 crore. The company had reduced its net debt by Rs 136.4 crore last fiscal, said CFO Gaurav Sharma. "Even though we are cutting down on capital expenditure, we are not compromising on growth and will open almost 110-120 screens in FY25. At the same time, not wavering from our goal of profitable growth, we will exit almost 60-70 screens that are non-performing and a drag on our profitability," he said. In FY24, PVR's revenue was at Rs 6,203.7 crore and it reported a loss of Rs 114.3 crore. This was the first full year of operations of the merged entity PVR INOX. Over the progress on merger integration, Bijli said "80-90 per cent of the targeted synergies was achieved in 2023-24" In FY24, PVR INOX had a 10 per cent growth in ticket prices and 11 per cent in F&amp;B spend per head, which was "higher-than-normal". This was primarily on account of merger synergies on the integration of PVR and INOX, said Sharma. "Going forward, the increase in ticket prices and food and beverage spending per head will be more in line with the long-term historical growth rates," he said. PVR INOX aims to restore pre-pandemic operating margins, enhancing return on capital, and driving free cash flow generation. "We aim to boost revenue by increasing footfalls through innovative customer acquisition and retention," said Sharma adding "We are also driving cost efficiencies by renegotiating rental contracts, closing under-performing screens, adopting a leaner organisational structure, and controlling overhead costs."

In Q3, new unit launches recorded around 22% YoY increase and about 26% growth on a quarterly basis. Premium and luxury segments accounted for about 10% and 4% shares, respectively, during this period. Pune recorded the highest residential sales overall during the quarter with a 24% share, followed by Mumbai with about 21% share. Delhi-NCR and Hyderabad accounted for about 17% and 15% of the market, respectively. Mumbai also took the lead with a 27.5% share in new launches, closely followed by Hyderabad with 26.9%, and Pune with 19%. For 2023, the overall residential sales across price categories exceeded 3.22 lakh units in 2023, registering a 9% YoY growth. Sustained momentum in demand also led developers to launch over 3.13 lakh new housing units in 2023, a 6% YoY increase. Mid-end projects emerged as the leading category driving sales, recording a 45% share in total sales for 2023, followed by high-end and affordable projects. The pleas came up for hearing on Wednesday before a division bench of Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Prithviraj Chavan. Their petitions challenge ED notices dated September 27 issued to Shetty and Kundra directing them to evict their residential premises here and a farmhouse in Pune within ten days in connection with a money-laundering case linked to an alleged <keyword id="23486542" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bitcoin-fraud" source="keywords">Bitcoin fraud</keyword>. The couple's advocate Prashant Patil said that Shetty and Kundra received the <keyword id="20675198" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="eviction-notices" source="keywords">eviction notices</keyword> only on October 3. He termed the notices arbitrary and illegal and sought them to be quashed. According to the pleas, there is no grave urgency for the petitioners to vacate their premises and that the issuance of such eviction notices was uncalled for. "The petitioners are also seeking relief on humanitarian grounds as the premise in question is their residential premise in which they have been staying with their family of six members for almost two decades," the petitions said. The pleas also sought HC to stay the effect of the eviction notices. As per the pleas, the ED had in 2018 lodged a complaint against one <keyword id="21346793" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="amit-bhardwaj" source="keywords">Amit Bhardwaj</keyword> and others for an alleged Bitcoin fraud and on charges of <keyword id="19899231" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="money-laundering" source="keywords">money laundering</keyword>. Both Shetty and her husband have not been named as accused in the case. The ED, during its probe, had summoned Kundra for questioning on several occasions. Kundra had appeared before the agency after each summons, the pleas said. In April 2024, Shetty and Kundra received a notice based on an order passed by the ED provisionally attaching their assets including their residential premise in Juhu that had been purchased by Kundra's father in 2009. Both Shetty and Kundra submitted their response to the notice. "However, in contravention to the provisions of law, the adjudicating authority confirmed the provisional attachment order on September 18, 2024. This order clearly states that the attachment is confirmed only till the conclusion of trial and is subject to its outcome," the pleas said. "The petitioners (Shetty and Kundra) on October 3 received two notices dated September 27, 2024, directing them to vacate their residential premises and the farmhouse," the petitions said. The petitions said no eviction order/notice can be issued prior to conviction. The pleas added that their residential premise has no connection with the scheduled offence or any proceeds of crime. The petitions further claimed that Kundra had absolutely no connection with the alleged fraud.

It might seem like an okay deal at first, but when you look at the long-term cost, things get tricky. Dr Prashant Thakur, Regional Director &amp; Head of Research at ANAROCK, breaks it down: "One-year payable rent for the individual is Rs 50,000 x 12 = Rs 6,00,000. For the next 10 years, the total rental outgo, including an annual rental increase of 7%, will be around Rs 83 lakh. This rental outgo is almost 69% of the total cost of this property — and this is just an expense with no investment value accrued." <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="113367496" title="I bought my dream home, but the difficult process and higher cost sometimes make me wish I&amp;#39;d stuck with renting" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div>What does that mean? If you keep renting, you’re essentially throwing money out the window without gaining any ownership of the home. While you may have the flexibility that comes with renting, your hard-earned money doesn’t build any long-term value. <h2>Is it time to make the home purchase leap?</h2>So, what if you took the plunge and bought the place instead? Let’s say you’re eyeing a Rs 1.2 crore apartment and can afford to put down a 20% down payment, with the rest coming from a 10-year home loan at 9.5% interest. Dr. Thakur explains, “If the individual opts to buy the property via a home loan, has the financial wherewithal to make a 20% down payment, and borrows the remaining amount over a 10-year tenure at 9.5% interest rate, such a purchase is definitely profitable. Instead of spending a huge amount on rent, the individual can pay monthly EMIs and ultimately own the physical asset after a ten-year period.” With this approach, the monthly EMIs may be slightly higher than what you’re paying in rent, but there’s a key difference — you’re working towards owning your home. After 10 years, the home is yours, and you don’t have to worry about rent going up year after year. <h2>Homeownership isn’t just about the numbers</h2>While the math might lean towards buying, it’s not just about finances. For some people, renting makes more sense, especially if they don’t plan to settle down in one place for a long time. Job mobility, financial stability, and lifestyle choices all factor into this decision. However, something interesting happened during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many people, including millennials who had previously been all about renting, started reconsidering. The pandemic brought a sense of uncertainty, and suddenly, the security of owning a home became much more attractive.
