The much-anticipated IPO (<keyword id="20478869" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="initial-public-offer" source="keywords">initial public offer</keyword>) of food and grocery delivery giant Swiggy is expected to go live between November 6th and 8th, 2024, with the window for <keyword id="21330641" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="anchor-investors" source="keywords">anchor investors</keyword> likely to open on November 5, 2024. The offer consists of around Rs 3,750 crore worth of <keyword id="20953853" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fresh-issue" source="keywords">fresh issue</keyword> and an offer for sale (OFS) of around 18.53 crore shares. All in all, the total issue is expected to be in the range of Rs 11,700 crore and Rs 11,800 crore. Per media reports, the fresh issue component is expected to be pushed up to Rs 4,500 crore, with the company now targeting a diluted valuation of $11.3 billion, as opposed to its previous target of $15 billion. The 25% slash is done to aid retail investors. Per the company, it does not want a "bad IPO." Notably, Swiggy's rival <keyword id="19901323" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zomato" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Zomato" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Zomato">Zomato</keyword>, which recently reported a staggering 389% YoY jump in its net profits, also recently announced that it is taking the QIP (qualified institutional placement) to raise Rs 8,500 crore. For the quarter ended September 30, 2024, Zomato earned a net profit of Rs 176 crore. Over the last year, i.e., between March 2023 and 2024, Swiggy saw its revenue from operations jump by 34% from 8,714.45 crore in FY23 to Rs 11,634.35 crore in FY24. The company's losses also narrowed down to Rs 2,350.24 crore in FY24, from Rs 4,179.31 crore in FY23. Swiggy's rival Zomato had gone public in July 2021, with an offer size of Rs 9,375 crore. At present, the company's stock was trading at Rs 251.95, having surged a whopping 138.48% over the last year. As of August this year, the company's quick commerce wing, <keyword id="20255906" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Instamart" source="keywords">Instamart</keyword>, has a network of 605 active dark stores across 43 Indian cities. Some of the major existing investors in Swiggy include Prosus, which holds a 32% stake, SoftBank, which has an 8% stake, and Accel, which holds a 6% stake in the company. Notably, <keyword id="23707337" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="market-watchdog-SEBI" source="keywords">market watchdog SEBI</keyword> had approved Swiggy's IPO via the confidential filing route. Under this mechanism, companies can file for a DRHP (draft red herring prospectus) without making it public. The company has the power to decide when to make this document available for public view after having incorporated the suggestions of the regulator.

The stock made its debut at Rs 111.60, up 3.33 per cent from the issue price on the BSE. Later, it climbed 12.40 per cent to Rs 121.40. At the NSE, it listed at Rs 111.50, up 3.24 per cent. The company's market valuation stood at Rs 1,02,211.38 crore during the morning trade. Shares of NTPC climbed nearly 2 per cent to Rs 368.80 on the BSE. The Consulate General of India in Toronto on Thursday said it is cancelling some of its scheduled consular camps after the Canadian security authorities conveyed their inability to provide minimum security protection to its organisers. The announcement comes days after an incident of violent disruption by protestors carrying Khalistani flags at a consular event co-organised by the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton and the Indian Consulate. "In view of the security agencies conveying their inability to provide minimum security protection to the community camp organisers, the Consulate has decided to cancel some of the scheduled consular camps," the Consulate General of India said in a post on X. On November 3, the protest occurred at the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton and unverified videos circulating on social media appeared to show demonstrators holding banners in support of Khalistan. The protestors clashed with people and disrupted the consular event. The incident was condemned by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who said every Canadian has the right to practise their faith freely and safely. India condemned the attack with an expectation that those indulging in violence "will be prosecuted". In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said that New Delhi remains "deeply concerned" about the safety and security of Indian nationals in Canada. The relations between India and Canada came under severe strain following Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations in September last year of a "potential" involvement of Indian agents in Khalistan extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar's killing. New Delhi rejected Trudeau's charges as "absurd". India has been maintaining that the main issue between the two countries is that of Canada giving space to pro-Khalistan elements operating from Canadian soil with impunity. Indian consulate in Canada cancels consular camps over security issues, Canadian authorities convey inability to provide security

Enviro Infra Engineers, which is involved in the development of turnkey projects of <keyword id="19979438" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sewage-treatment-plants" source="keywords">sewage treatment plants</keyword> and sewerage systems, on Monday fixed a price band of ₹140-148 per share for its ₹650 crore <keyword id="19913114" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Initial-Public-Offering" source="keywords">Initial Public Offering</keyword> (IPO). The initial share sale will open for public subscription on November 22 and conclude on November 26. The bidding for anchor investors will open for a day on November 21, the company announced. The city-based company's proposed IPO is a combination of a fresh issue of 3.87 crore equity shares and an Offer For Sale (OFS) component of 52.68 lakh shares by promoters. Currently, promoters hold over 93 per cent stake in Enviro Infra Engineers. At the higher end of the price band, the IPO is valued at ₹650 crore, placing the company's market capitalization at approximately ₹2,600 crore. Proceeds from the fresh issue to the tune of ₹181 crore will be used to meet the working capital requirements, ₹100 crore will be used for payment of debt, ₹30 crore will be infused into the company's subsidiary, EIEL Mathura Infra Engineers, to build 60 million litres per day Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. Besides, a portion will be used for general corporate purposes. Half of the issue size has been reserved for qualified institutional buyers, 35 per cent for retail investors and the remaining 15 per cent for non-institutional investors. Enviro Infra Engineers is engaged in designing, construction, operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment plants and water supply scheme projects for government authorities/bodies. The treatment process installed by the company at most of the STPs is zero liquid discharge-compliant and the treated water can be used for horticulture, washing, refrigeration, and other process industries. Hem Securities is the sole book-running lead manager of the public issue. The equity shares of the company are expected to be listed on the BSE and NSE on November 29. Enviro Infra Engineers IPO to open on Nov 22; eyes ₹650 crore

Did you know that your high-speed <keyword id="6357247" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Internet" source="Orion">internet</keyword> might be making you a bit, well… sluggish? According to new research, faster internet connections could actually be helping to drive up <keyword id="6364492" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Obesity" source="Orion">obesity</keyword> rates in Australia. The study examined years of data from the Household, Income, and Labor Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) survey, tracking the expansion of high-speed internet across the country from 2006 to 2019. The result? The faster the internet, the more likely people are to gain weight. <h3 style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:14.0pt;margin-bottom:4.0pt;">Fast internet changing daily habits</h3>According to Dr. Klaus Ackermann from Monash Business School, the connection between fast internet and weight gain has to do with “sedentary behavior.” He explains, “Access to high-speed internet connection decreases the likelihood of individuals meeting the minimum physical activity recommendation proposed by the WHO. That is, individuals become more inactive and exhibit more sedentary behaviour.” Basically, with high-speed internet, we’re more likely to spend hours watching streaming shows or playing online games. And, as Dr. Ackermann says, “Sedentary behavior is induced by the need to stay connected online for longer hours, which leads to lower metabolic rates and contributes to obesity.” And that’s not all — the more we’re sitting around, the more we’re likely to snack. “This problem is elevated by the need to frequently consume snacks during computer usage, which increases the daily intake of calories that contribute to obesity,” Ackermann points out. <h3 style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:14.0pt;margin-bottom:4.0pt;">A growing (and costly) problem</h3>Beyond individual health, Australia’s obesity crisis is also creating a big economic issue. Obesity cost the country $11.8 billion in 2018, and that number is projected to reach an astonishing $87.7 billion by 2032. According to the study, a mere 1% increase in National Broadband Network adoption is linked with a jump in <keyword id="20107050" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Body-Mass-Index" source="keywords">Body Mass Index</keyword> (BMI) of 1.57 kg/m² and a 6.6% increase in the prevalence of obesity. In simple terms, fast internet is allowing people to live slower lives—lives that involve a lot more sitting and a lot less moving. <h3 style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:14.0pt;margin-bottom:4.0pt;">Breaking the cycle</h3>So, what’s the solution? Dr. Ackermann suggests that we might need <keyword id="21876118" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="public-health-campaigns" source="keywords">public health campaigns</keyword> to remind people of the risks that come with endless screen time. “One avenue of suggestion could be creating awareness of the potential increase in <keyword id="23729054" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sedentary-behavior" source="keywords">sedentary behavior</keyword> with internet access; this could motivate people to take breaks between screen time to reduce sedentary behavior and engage in physical activity to promote a healthier lifestyle,” he says. He adds that encouraging people to take breaks and do more physical activities might be key. “Such public health campaigns could encourage the need to physically engage in errands, if possible, as opposed to strictly accessing goods and services online,” Ackermann advises. High-speed internet may be part of modern life, but maybe it’s worth taking a step back now and then to get off the couch. As Dr. Ackermann puts it, “Public health campaigns that encourage short but vigorous physical activity… could be useful for individuals with busy lifestyles who may only have limited time.” The findings of this research have been published in Economics &amp; Human Biology.

The faster your internet, the more likely you are to be obese, a study has found

The IPO (initial public offer) of food and grocery delivery behemoth Swiggy is set to open tomorrow and conclude on November 8, 2024. The entire issue is worth Rs 11,327.43 crore and has a fresh issue component of Rs 4,499 crore and an OFS (offer for sale) of about Rs 6,828.43 crore. With a price band of Rs 371-390, retail investors will be required to invest a minimum of Rs 14,820 to get their hands on Swiggy's shares. Swiggy, which will tentatively list on the bourses on November 13, 2024, is seeking to raise Rs 1,952.43 crore more than its rival <keyword id="830092" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="zomato" source="Orion">Zomato</keyword>, which went public in July 2021 and was looking to raise Rs 9,375 crore. Zomato's offer was oversubscribed around 38.25 times, with retail investors subscribing 7.45x to the issue. Notably, only around 15% of Swiggy's total issue will be made available to retail investors. Moreover, Swiggy's IPO is not garnering the same buzz if its present GMP (<keyword id="938640" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="grey-market-premium" source="Orion">grey market premium</keyword>) trends are to be believed. The company's last traded GMP was Rs 7, taking its estimated listing price to Rs 397 (upper end of its price band, i.e., Rs 390 + Rs 7), and its potential listing gains per share at a minimal 1.79%. Last week, Swiggy's GMP was at Rs 25, before tumbling to Rs 18, and then momentarily stabilizing at Rs 22 before its steep fall to present levels of Rs 7. <h2>Strengths and weaknesses</h2> Since its inception in 2014, Swiggy's bottom line has been in red, unlike that of its rival Zomato, which turned profitable in the first quarter of FY24. In FY22, its total income was Rs. 6119.78 crore with a net loss of Rs. 3628.90 crore. While the company's total income increased to Rs. 8714.45 crore in FY23, it also spelled a corresponding rise in its net losses, which surged to Rs. 4179.31 crore. The trend varied a little in FY24 when Swiggy's total income rose to Rs 11,634.35 crore while its net loss reduced to Rs. 2,350.24 crore. However, in the first quarter of FY25, ending June 30, 2024, the company's total income stood at Rs 3,310.11 crore and a net loss of Rs. 611.01 crore. While Swiggy did achieve 42.4% revenue growth between FY2022-223, most of its revenue is sourced from the top 50 of the 500 Indian cities it is currently operational in. Even in this regard, Zomato, which operates in around 1,000 cities across India, has an edge. <h2>Some say invest, some say avoid</h2> Some experts are advising against subscribing to this IPO. Per SAMCO Securities, "As of FY 2024, Swiggy Limited continues to operate at a loss, in contrast to its competitor, Zomato Limited, which has recently achieved profitability. Given Swiggy’s current financial position, competitive pressures, associated risks, and valuation, its IPO appears overvalued. Therefore, investors should avoid this IPO until the company’s financial performance and growth outlook improve. Waiting until Swiggy demonstrates improved financial results and a clearer path to sustainable growth would be a more prudent investment approach. Per Bajaj Broking's IPO note, Swiggy's IPO can be subscribed to from a long-term perspective. However, it also highlights that Swiggy's offer document is missing PAT (profit after tax) and RoCE (returns on capital employed) data. "For the last three fiscals, the company has reported an average EPS of Rs - (14.90) and an average RoNW of - (35.39%). The issue is priced at a P/BV of 11.60 based on its NAV of Rs. 33.61 as of June 30, 2024, and is at a P/BV of 7.31 based on its post-IPO NAV of Rs. 53.36 per share (at upper cap). If we attribute annualized FY25 earnings to a post-IPO fully diluted equity base, then the asking price is at a negative P/E, and based on FY24 earnings also, it is at a negative P/E, as the company has posted losses for those periods. On other parameters, the issue appears aggressively priced," it further adds. Gaurav Garg, research analyst at Lemonn Markets Desk, notes that it might take some time for Swiggy to reach Zomato's level, both in terms of valuation and AOV (average order value). Swiggy's valuation has been pegged at about Rs 95,000 crore, at the upper price band, while Zomato has a market valuation of Rs 2.13 lakh crore. "Almost 50% valuation compared to Zomato gives some comfort, although it should not be considered an arbitrage in valuation. If Swiggy’s EBITDA catches up to 3-4% in the food delivery business, which is currently at 1%, and Average Order Value (AOV) improves to Rs. 550-600 levels in quick commerce with a higher non-grocery share, we can see bridging in the valuation gap. However, this should not be expected in the near term," he adds.

This update actually led to a decrease in flame retardant levels in homes, proving there's a better path forward. While opening windows and parking in the shade can help, the real solution lies in urging <keyword id="19996197" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="car-manufacturers" source="keywords">car manufacturers</keyword> and safety regulators to update outdated standards. We shouldn't have to choose between fire safety and our health. “Commuting to work shouldn’t come with a cancer risk, and children shouldn’t breathe in chemicals that can harm their brains on their way to school,” says the study’s co-author Lydia Jahl, a senior scientist at the Green Science Policy Institute. As of Friday, with around 63% of the vote counted, it appeared some inland counties were poised to flip from blue to red.Other blue states with a greater share of their vote counted as of Friday also showed a consistent trend to the right.Harris easily won Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Maryland — but by significantly smaller margins than President Joe Biden won them by in 2020.
