Prep the area: </strong>Prep your pubic region by cleansing the area with soap and lukewarm water. Friedler says using warm water helps open up the pores so you can get a closer shave. </p><p><strong>2. Use a </strong><a href="https://www.insider.com/guides/beauty/best-shaving-cream" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>shaving cream or gel</strong></a><strong>:</strong> Spread something lubricating over the area, like shaving cream or gel. This helps the razor glide over the skin more easily, which reduces friction and irritation, says Friedler.</p><p><strong>3. Start shaving: </strong>Pull the skin taut, then use short and careful strokes to shave with the direction of hair growth instead of against it, Friedler says. This helps prevent cuts and ingrown hairs. In between strokes, rinse the razor to make sure it isn't clogged with hair or shaving cream. </p><p><strong>4. Rinse with cool water:</strong> Rinse away the hair and shaving cream with cool water. Friedler says opting for cooler water over warm water helps close the pores back up.</p><p><strong>5. </strong><a href="https://www.insider.com/guides/beauty/best-body-moisturizer" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Moisturize</strong></a>: Especially if you have sensitive skin or are prone to irritation after shaving, Friedler says it's helpful to moisturize or apply a product specifically designed for use after shaving to soothe your skin and prevent ingrown hairs or bumps. Opt for a mild, unscented moisturizer. If your skin is very sensitive, Friedler says you may use an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream to ease redness and inflammation. </p><p><strong>Note</strong>: Avoid shaving with dull razors since this increases your risk of ingrown hairs and overall irritation. Use a new razor or replacement blade <a href="https://www.aad.org/public/everyday-care/skin-care-basics/hair/how-to-shave" target="_blank" rel="noopener">every five to seven shaves</a>. </p><h2>Should I exfoliate? </h2><p>It's important to occasionally exfoliate before you shave if you're prone to <a href="https://www.insider.com/guides/health/conditions-symptoms/ingrown-pubic-hair" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ingrown pubic hairs</a>.</p><p><strong>Medical term: </strong>Ingrown hairs occur when the hair grows back into the skin instead of growing out above the skin, King says. When the hair gets trapped beneath the surface, it results in inflammation and a bump.</p><p><a href="https://www.insider.com/guides/beauty/best-exfoliating-ingredients" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Exfoliation</a> is a step that involves using scrubs or chemicals to remove dead skin cells on the surface of your skin. By removing these, you can help prevent blockages that lead to ingrown hairs. </p><p>There are two categories of exfoliants: <a href="https://www.aad.org/public/everyday-care/skin-care-secrets/routine/safely-exfoliate-at-home" target="_blank" rel="noopener">chemical and mechanical.</a> </p><ul><li><strong>Chemical exfoliants</strong> use acids to break down dead skin cells. Common chemical exfoliants include alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta hydroxy acids (BHAs). </li><li><strong>Mechanical exfoliants</strong> use microbeads or abrasive textures to remove the dead cell layer.</li></ul><p>When adding exfoliation to your shaving routine, King recommends starting slowly, exfoliating just once or twice a week, and then increasing the frequency if your skin tolerates it well. On the flip side, back off on exfoliating if your skin gets irritated.</p><h2>How to exfoliate</h2><p>The step-by-step depends on if you're using a chemical or mechanical exfoliant. </p><p>According to King, here's how to exfoliate if you're using a chemical exfoliant:</p><p>You can get different types of products with chemical exfoliants in them, so the process changes depending on which product you choose.</p><p><strong>1. </strong>If using toner, blot without rubbing. </p><p><strong>2. </strong>If using lotion, lightly rub in. </p><p><strong>3. </strong>If using a cleanser,  wet your skin first and make gentle massaging circles for two to three minutes.</p><p>Afterward, rinse the product away with warm water and begin the steps for shaving. </p><p>With mechanical exfoliants, the process is fairly similar, King says:</p><p><strong>1. </strong>Wet your skin.</p><p><strong>2. </strong>Apply the exfoliant and rub gently in small circles for two minutes.</p><p><strong>3. </strong>Rinse with warm water and begin the steps for shaving.</p><p>If you're going to use a product that's a mechanical exfoliant, King says you should use something that has very fine particles and apply gentle pressure when scrubbing. </p><p>If your skin is more on the sensitive side, stick to chemical exfoliants. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Certified nurse midwife Heather Helton has worked in <keyword id="31469" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="sexual-health">sexual health</keyword> for 19 years, and recently shared a step-by-step TikTok on how to safely groom your pubic hair.</li><li>Helton walked through the steps that can help prevent razor burn and ingrown hairs, two common issues her patients cite when they shave down there.</li><li>She recommended cleansing and exfoliating the area, using a men's razor, and dabbing witch hazel on the area post-shave.</li></ul><p>Certified nurse midwife Heather Helton recently revealed her go-to method for achieving a razor bump-free shave, and it only requires drugstore products.</p><p>Helton, who lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, has <a href="https://www.buzzfeed.com/kristatorres/how-to-shave-your-pubic-hair-tiktok">worked in women's health for 19 years</a>. I don't think any of my friends were. It's not one of those things that's talked about, so with all of  the questions that I see in the office and that I hear teens talk about, I was like, 'Well, let's go ahead and start making some TikToks,'" Helton told Insider.</p><h2>Take a warm shower and clean your skin with soap</h2><p>Helton stressed that it's not medically necessary or more hygienic to shave or groom your pubic hair. It's just a personal preference.</p><p>For those who want to remove some or all of the hair on their vulvas, Helton said to first take a warm shower and clean the pubic area with unscented soap designed for sensitive skin, like <a href="https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=l&amp;ai=DChcSEwiW6YPxpsvsAhVLssgKHcBcB7oYABAGGgJxdQ&amp;sig=AOD64_3y-5qcFjF2jB1b-OBTGYh7HTuLEQ&amp;ctype=46&amp;q=&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjDhvzwpsvsAhXLTd8KHVdbDMYQ9aACegQIGhBA&amp;adurl=Q9aACegQIGhBA&amp;adurl=">Dove's Beauty Bar</a>.</p><p>"This helps remove any dirt or bacteria on the skin," she said.</p><p>If you've never shaved before, you should trim the hairs you plan to remove before hopping in the shower to prevent a clogged razor, Helton said.</p><h2>Exfoliate to remove dead skin cells</h2><p>Next, Helton suggested exfoliating anywhere you plan to shave.</p><p>"This will help remove dead skin cells and help get a closer shave. A plain, basic exfoliant is best, but this just depends on what works best for each person," she said in the video.</p><p>The exfoliant you use is a personal choice, Helton told Insider, but one with as few ingredients as possible will prevent skin irritation.</p><p>Helton personally likes the St. Ives Apricot Walnut Scrub, but suggested dabbing a small amount of the product on your pubic area to spot-test it the first time. If you notice burning, stinging, or another adverse reaction, you should choose a different exfoliant, she said.</p><h2>Shave in the direction your hair grows, and rinse your razor often</h2><p>Now that the skin is prepped, it's time to shave. </p><p>Helton said razors marketed for men are best because they tend to be sharpest.</p><p>Use a brand-new razor to shave in short strokes in the same direction your hair grows, Helton said, adding that you should rinse the razor after each stroke "because a hair-clogged razor won't take as much hair off."</p><p>She said to go over each area as few times as possible in order to prevent skin irritation.</p><h2>Dab on witch hazel and hydrocortisone cream</h2><p>Once you're done shaving, Helton suggested using drugstore products to prevent inflammation, which can give rise to ingrown hairs and bumps.</p><p>First, dab a bit of witch hazel that has 14% or less alcohol content.</p><p>After the witch hazel dries, "apply a thin layer of 1% hydrocortisone cream to the area. A midwife shared her drugstore hack for preventing razor bumps when shaving your pubic hair

A <a href="https://www.insider.com/camila-cabello-nip-slip-tiktok-wardrobe-malfunction-video-2022-3">nip slip</a> is nothing to be ashamed of. <a href="https://www.insider.com/myths-facts-about-calories-2017-5">Calories are for energy</a> and not appearance.</p><p>These are a few of the many, many phrases that embody my dad's attitude toward image. Straightforwardness — which sometimes materializes as "tough love" — has always been his way. "You can talk to me about anything" is a cliché, but with my dad, I actually do. His body- and <a href="https://www.insider.com/sex-positive-parent-teenager-uncomfortable-conversations-2023-4">sex-positive approach to parenting</a> has done wonders for my mental health, both as a teenager and now as an adult.</p><h2>My dad has been a role model and my confidant</h2><p>As a young person, it was exhausting to deal with <a href="https://www.insider.com/guides/health/mental-health/how-social-media-affects-body-image">body insecurity</a>, postpuberty hormones, and the sexual pressures of high-school relationships. My dad acted as both a role model — <a href="https://www.insider.com/brazil-tape-bikini-tan-erika-bronze-2021-3">tanning</a> nude in our backyard, even when we had company — and a counselor — spouting home truths like "masturbation is healthy" and "the bush might make a comeback." Things that were slightly horrifying at the time now make me laugh; this man had no shame, and why should he? Why should anyone?</p><p>Dads often get a bad rap for being overly protective of their daughters. While that protection may come from a good place, my dad took a more progressive approach, never questioning my clothing choices (rather, I distinctly remember him offering to buy me a thong bikini) or warning me of the dangers of premarital sex (besides STIs and unwanted pregnancy, of course).</p><p>Instead, my parents and I had frank discussions about birth control, condoms, and abortions — which they offered to arrange if I ever needed one. Teenage girls have just as much sex as teenage boys; at least my dad was realistic about it.</p><h2>There was no privacy in my house and I was OK with that</h2><p>Privacy was a stranger in my childhood home. Before we added a second bathroom, my parents and I would share the same one, a simultaneous getting-ready routine ensuing each morning. Everything was out in the open. I didn't realize this wasn't normal until my friends said they'd never seen their parents naked. At some point, I started internalizing other people's embarrassment, closing the door during showers and walking around in a robe. My dad asked me why I felt the need to hide my body.</p><p>I think for some people, my relationship with my dad comes across as weird. We've spoken about anal sex, sending nudes, UTIs, body hair, road head, and the list goes on. Yes, my parents know I have sex. No, they don't know every detail (it's OK to have some boundaries). But I don't find it weird; I find it refreshing.</p><h2>My dad's openness gave me body confidence</h2><p>My dad always encouraged me to be confident. As a teen, I sometimes struggled with that, thanks to my school's gender-biased dress code and boys poking fun at girls over just about anything, but especially the scent of their vaginas, the size of their nipples, or the presentation of their pubic hair. These comments can stick — but thanks to my dad, they didn't.</p><p>I'm 24 now, and my sense of self is sturdier than ever. This allows me to have fulfilling romantic relationships, a healthy attitude toward sex, and the assurance to speak openly about my body. I can go to my dad with any issue and receive a thoughtful, nonjudgmental response.</p><p>Feeling secure in myself is a relief — a metaphorical weight off my shoulders. I can credit my dad for lifting that burden.</p>

My dad's sex-positive parenting saved my adult body image

<ul class="summary-list"><li>There's no such thing as a normal type of vulva because there are so many different sizes and shapes.</li><li>The symmetry and shape of your vulva largely depend on the size of your labia and clitoris.</li></ul><p>If you've ever taken a peek at your vulva — the outer part of a person with a vagina's genitals that includes the vagina, labia, and clitoris — and wondered if yours is normal, you're not alone. </p><p>"The truth is a lot of women don't like their vaginas. One in seven women have considered getting labiaplasty, which basically is trimming and tucking the vulva and tightening up the entrance," says <a href="http://www.drsherry.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sherry Ross</a>, MD, OB-GYN and a women's health expert with her own private practice.  </p><p>In fact, a 2017 report by the <a href="https://www.surgery.org/sites/default/files/ASAPS-Stats2017.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cosmetic Surgery National Data Bank</a> showed that labiaplasties increased by 213% from 2012-2017, indicating that more and more people were seeking cosmetic procedures to alter their vagina's appearance. </p><p>It's important to note that everyone has a unique and different type of vulva, says Ross. And unless it's causing you discomfort, there's no reason to be ashamed of what it looks like or to undergo expensive surgery to reshape it. </p><p>While there's no set number of vulva "types," there are many variations in the size, symmetry and color of a person's labia (or lips) and clitoris. Here's what your vulva might look like and why it's totally normal. </p><h2>Is my vagina "normal"?</h2><p>Each vagina is unique and specific to every person. So there's not necessarily a "normal" vagina shape or standard way your vagina should look. </p><p>"You know the saying, 'No two snowflakes are exactly alike?' Well, the expression could just as easily refer to the vulva and vagina," says Ross. </p><p>"The labia, or lips — which is where most of the issues are for the majority of female patients — vary from person to person. In fact, even the separate parts of the same vagina are not exactly the same ... this is completely normal; different is normal," says Ross. </p><p>Pubic hair is also a normal part of having a vagina. Most <a href="https://www.insider.com/how-your-vagina-changes-2018-11" target="_blank" rel="noopener">people</a> develop pubic hair on the area surrounding their vagina. </p><h2><strong>Vagina anatomy 101 </strong></h2><ul><li><strong>Vulva:</strong> The outer part of your vagina is called <a href="https://www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/health-and-wellness/sexual-and-reproductive-anatomy/what-are-parts-female-sexual-anatomy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">your vulva</a>. This contains the vaginal lips (labia), urethra, vagina opening, and clitoris, among other anatomy.</li><li><strong>Mons Pubis:</strong> The<a href="https://www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/health-and-wellness/sexual-and-reproductive-anatomy/what-are-parts-female-sexual-anatomy" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> mound that sits above your vulva</a> (i.e the front of your vagina) is your mons pubis.</li><li><strong>Labia majora:</strong> These are part of the <a href="https://www.nva.org/learnpatient/gynecological-anatomy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">outer lips of your vagina</a> and are usually pink, red, or brownish in color.</li><li><strong>Labia minora:</strong> The inner folds of the vagina that sit inside of the labia majora.</li><li><strong>Clitoris:</strong> A small bundle of nerves that sits at the top of your vagina, above your urethra, and can vary in size. However,<a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/yeast-infection/symptoms-causes/syc-20378999" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> bright red skin </a>or a rash could indicate there's something amiss like a yeast infection. </p><p><strong>Note</strong>: The Australian non-profit Women's Health Victoria has a "<a href="http://www.labialibrary.org.au/photo-gallery/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Labia Library</a>" where you can check out real medical photos of different kinds of labia. </p><h2>Why do so many people want to change their vaginas?</h2><p>A number of <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2931365/#R11" target="_blank" rel="noopener">studies</a> have pointed to porn, ads, and other unrealistic media representations of vaginas as a potential cause for people's <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4796748/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dissatisfaction</a> with their vaginas. Ross agrees, saying that porn is a potential explanation on why some feel like their vaginas are "abnormal" or "ugly." </p><p>A 2015 analysis of 480 women found that 40.7% of the women interviewed said that they had some qualm with their vagina, including issues with the length and color of their labia. </p><p>"Porn and social media has created vaginal insecurity which has helped move vaginal rejuvenation to the forefront," says Ross.  </p><h2>How to change your vaginal shape </h2><p>While you shouldn't be ashamed of the look and size of your vagina, there are options to change its appearance if that's what you prefer. These might include: </p><ul><li>The size or shape of your labia may cause some discomfort during sports or other activities.</li><li>Your labia are noticeable enough in clothing that you personally want to alter its appearance. </li></ul><p>"The primary procedure … is called a labiaplasty. A trained plastic surgeon or gynecologist can perform this simple outpatient procedure, and the results can be life-changing," says Ross. </p><p>However, according to Ross, this surgery can cause some complications like painful scarring or discomfort during sex. Ross also recommends getting a second or third opinion before you opt for surgery.</p><p><strong>What's the cost: </strong>A <a href="https://womenswellnessinstitute.com/how-much-does-labiaplasty-cost/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">labiaplasty</a> can cost between $3,000 and $8,500 depending on the doctor and what your specific procedure will entail. Sometimes insurance will cover it and sometimes not - you may want to check on your particular insurance coverage. </p><p>"As always, it's important to have a candid talk with your doctor and maintain realistic expectations," says Ross.</p><h2>Insider's takeaway</h2><p>The media, including porn and social media, might make you feel like your vagina isn't normal or desirable. Everyone's vagina is different and can range in color, shape, and symmetry. So there's no "perfect" or "normal" way for your vagina to look. </p><p>You may also find your vagina changes with age. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Trump often speculated about others' sexualities, according to NYT reporter Maggie Haberman's book.</li><li>Trump mocked gay men and called them "queer" or "faggot," his employees reportedly said.</li></ul><p>Former President Donald Trump often speculated about the sexuality of people in his orbit, mocked gay people, and made crude, explicit comments, a new book says.</p><p>The revelations are made in the upcoming book "Confidence Man: The Making of Donald Trump and the Breaking of America" by New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, seen by <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/maggie-habermans-new-book-details-donald-trumps-transphobic-and-anti-gay-behavior?ref=home">The Daily Beast.</a></p><p>Haberman suggests in the book that Trump made the comments with a goal to "shock."</p><p>According to the book, in a meeting, Trump once speculated about the sexuality of his spokesman Jason Miller, who he deemed "likes the ladies."</p><p>"You know how sometimes someone turns out to be gay later, and you knew? This guy, he isn't even like one percent gay," Trump said about Miller, who was in the meeting, according to the book.</p><div type="image" title="Jason Miller walks in the Capitol." height="3845" width="5126" msid="94600289" hostid="261" sizebytes="709278"></div><p>The former president frequently mocked gay men or men that were seen as weak by calling them "queer" or "faggot", former Trump employees told Haberman, according to The Daily Beast.</p><p>Former Trump Organization executive Alan Marcus also said Trump would "belittle" another executive that he believed was gay, calling him "queer" and bragging about paying him less, per the book.</p><p>His fixation on sexualities extended well before his political career, and in the 1980s, during the AIDS epidemic, Trump called reporters to find out if people that he'd shaken hands were gay, the book says.</p><p>In one anecdote in the book, reported on by The Daily Beast, Trump was preparing for a debate question about transgender people's bathroom use when he queried whether a hypothetical transgender girl was "cocked or decocked."</p><p>When questioned about what he meant, Trump reportedly made "a chopping gesture" and asked if they were "with cock or without cock."</p><p>"What if a girl was in the bathroom and someone came in, lifted up a skirt, and a schlong was hanging out," Trump said, according to the book.</p><p>As president, Trump <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-transgender-bathroom-2017-2?r=US&amp;IR=T">revoked Obama-era guidance</a> to public schools that allowed transgender students to use the bathroom of their choosing.</p><p>According to the book extract seen by The Daily Beast, Trump was also crude about sexually explicit topics, such as talking about the pubic hair of Brazilian women and showing off photos of women he knew intimately to display his masculinity.</p><p>The much-anticipated book is due to be released next week. The former president has <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/109090467565467161">lashed out</a> at Haberman, nicknaming her "Maggot" and calling her a "bad writer with very bad sources."</p><p>But in private,<a href="https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2022/09/30/maggie-haberman-profile-00059343">Politico reported,</a> Trump reveres Haberman. </p><p>"I love being with her," he once told two aides, according to Politico. "She's like my psychiatrist."</p><p>"I've never seen a psychiatrist," he added. "But if I did, I'm sure it would not be as good as this, right?</p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The strange case of Natalia Grace Barnett, a Ukrainian "orphan," captured headlines worldwide.</li><li>Her adoptive parents claimed the girl — a little person — was an adult masquerading as a child.</li></ul><p>It was perhaps one of the strangest stories ever in the headlines.</p><p><a href="https://www.insider.com/what-is-spondyloepiphyseal-dysplasia-congenital-2019-9">Natalia Grace Barnett</a>, a little person with a rare bone-growth disorder, was adopted from Ukraine by a family who thought she was 6 years old. Her adoptive parents later claimed that she was a "sociopathic" adult <a href="https://www.insider.com/here-are-8adults-who-were-caught-posing-as-children-2019-10">pretending</a> to be a child.</p><p>Michael and Kristine Barnett of Indianapolis said Natalia wanted to harm them and their biological children. Meanwhile, authorities charged the parents with neglecting their disabled daughter.</p><p>The convoluted tale is chronicled in the new docuseries "<a href="https://www.investigationdiscovery.com/crimefeed/news/id-debuts-official-trailer-for-explosive-new-docuseries-the-curious-case-of-natalia-grace" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Curious Case of Natalia Grace</a>" on Investigation Discovery. The filmmakers tried to find out the truth behind the affair. Michael Barnett defended himself during extended interviews. Kristine Barnett and Natalia chose not to give their sides of the story.</p><h2>Michael Barnett said the family had no reason to suspect that Natalia was an adult</h2><p>Speaking in the series, Michael Barnett, who is now divorced from Kristine, said the family was "living with a con artist and a psychopath."</p><p>The Barnetts adopted Natalia in 2010 from an adoption agency in Florida. Barnett said in the film that they were given a day to decide whether to do so.</p><p>"They said, 'She has dwarfism. You have 24 hours to sign; otherwise, she is going straight to foster,'" he said.</p><p>"We adopted Natalia because we wanted to help somebody who was in danger of never being loved," Barnett said, adding that her Ukrainian birth certificate said she was born on September 4, 2003.</p><p>He said they had no reason to believe she wasn't a 6-year-old orphan. She had <a href="https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/spondyloepiphyseal-dysplasia-congenita" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia</a>. The rare kind of dwarfism can cause skeletal abnormalities and issues with vision and hearing. He said that his ex-wife was shocked to discover that their "brand-new" little girl had <a href="https://www.insider.com/how-to-wax-your-pubic-hair-safely-according-to-gynecologist-2019-9">pubic hair</a>.</p><p>Soon afterward, he said, Kristine confronted Natalia because she'd found some blood-stained underwear in her bedroom. Speaking in a home video shown in the series, Natalia replied, "I have a <a href="https://www.insider.com/guides/health/reproductive-health/how-to-stop-your-period">period</a>, and I've been hiding it."</p><p>Barnett said Natalia displayed disturbing behaviors, such as urinating and defecating in the car and smearing the windows with feces. In public, he said, she'd "throw herself" out of the passenger door for attention.</p><p>"The idea was to look like a poor, helpless little girl," he said.</p><p>He said in the documentary that she started hoarding knives and once told him, "I'm going to kill you in your sleep." Another time, the father said, she appeared at the foot of their bed with a knife in her hand.</p><h2><strong>The Barnetts became convinced that Natalia's Ukrainian birth certificate had been forged</strong></h2><p>Barnett also accused Natalia of trying to poison Kristine by pouring cleaning supplies into her coffee, shoving her against an electric fence, and threatening to stab her older brothers.</p><p>"She was doing everything possible to cause hurt or harm or mental distress to the family," Barnett said.</p><p>Interviewed in the series, Natalia's eldest brother, Jacob Barnett, said he "didn't feel safe around Natalia." He added: "I was just scared."</p><p>Natalia spent time in the state mental hospital where, Michael Barnett said, a therapist diagnosed her as a "<a href="https://www.insider.com/dark-tetrad-personality-traits-what-they-are-and-what-they-mean-2018-10">sociopath</a>." A number of hospital staffers who spoke in the docuseries on condition of anonymity said she was released after making "inappropriate" sexual remarks to male patients. By then, the Barnetts were convinced that their daughter was an adult. They said her Ukrainian birth certificate had been forged.</p><div type="image" title="A black and white headshot of Ukrainian orphan Natalia Grace Barnett" height="1080" width="1440" msid="100567708" hostid="261"></div><p>The same year, the parents successfully petitioned a court to change Natalia's birth records, citing that she hadn't grown in their care. It determined that she was born on September 4, 1989 — some 14 years earlier than she claimed. The court order said she was a 23-year-old adult.</p><p>The Barnetts found an apartment for Natalia and paid the rent. Neighbors who lived in the housing complex told the filmmakers that Natalia would introduce herself as a "little person" in her early 20s. They befriended her, they said. But, they added, they lost trust. Natalia's closest neighbors, Sue McCallan and Toby and Melanie Miles, said she'd appear unannounced in their homes. They said they were also unnerved by how she seemed to behave "sexually" around people, including kids.</p><p>Toby Miles said that he became increasingly frightened of Natalia because she told him "that she had tried to kill her mom." A recording of a 911 call that she made at the time was played in the documentary.</p><p>"I'm stalking one of my neighbors," Natalia told the operator, adding: "I don't want to harm them."</p><p>The Barnetts, who were soon to engage in a bitter <a href="https://www.insider.com/was-ashamed-divorce-27-now-thinks-brave-to-do-it-2022-9">divorce</a>, moved to Canada when Natalia's lease was up.</p><h2>Police accused the Barnetts of abandoning their dependent Natalia and forcing her to fend for herself</h2><p>They moved her into an apartment in a rundown part of Lafayette, Indiana. Speaking in the documentary, Natalia's neighbor Kyra Weaver said Natalia struggled to climb the steps to her apartment and couldn't reach the kitchen counter or a washing machine.</p><p>"I felt like she had been thrown to the wolves," Weaver said.</p><p>Other neighbors said Natalia could barely cook for herself and had a limited diet of takeout pizza and instant noodles. She relied on food stamps, according to a neighbor. </p><p>Authorities became involved once Natalia's electricity and phone line were cut off after her bills weren't paid. She moved in with the family of a neighbor, Cynthia Mans, and was helped by a social worker who liaised with the police. Detectives questioned the Barnetts, accusing them of leaving Natalia to fend for herself for more than three years.</p><div type="image" title="Michael and Kristine Barnett sit in a gondola on vacation" height="1080" width="1440" msid="100567709" hostid="261"></div><p>In 2019, the Barnetts, who gave opposing accounts of what happened, faced a string of charges related to neglect. Prosecutors dropped the original charges of neglect of a child because of the court-ordered change to Natalia's age in 2012 and the statute of limitations. Instead, Michael Barnett was tried for neglect of a dependent. The authorities said that even if Natalia had been an adult at the time she was abandoned, she was dependent on her parents because of her dwarfism.</p><h2>Natalia appeared on Dr. Phil and maintained that she was 6 when she was adopted</h2><p>A judge did not allow the issue of Natalia's age to be raised in front of the jury. Michael Barnett was found not guilty of all charges in fall 2022. Kristine Barnett's trial was scheduled for February this year, but the case was dismissed. Still, Michael Barnett excoriated his ex-wife in the documentary, saying, "Kristine is a walking epitome of evil."</p><p>As for Natalia, she maintained that she was 6 when she was adopted. She appeared on the <a href="https://www.insider.com/dr-phil-natalia-grace-ukrainian-orphan-interview-age-2019-11">"Dr. Phil" show</a> in November 2019.</p><p>"They say that you scammed them, that you lied about your age and came over here and terrorized them," the host, Phil McGraw, told Natalia about the Barnetts.</p><p>She insisted that she was born in 2003, not 1989.</p><p>"You say you are 16," McGraw said during the interview. He then asked, "Are you a 30-year-old scam artist?"</p><p>"No," Natalia replied.</p><p>Natalia's claims have never been proved. Now, at least in the eyes of the law, she's a 33-year-old woman. Whatever the case, speaking in the documentary, Michael Barnett said he had compassion for Natalia, even though she testified against him in court. He said that they exchanged a discreet "wave" after the jury gave its verdict.</p><p>"I looked her directly in the eyes," Barnett said in the series, adding: "I mouthed to her, 'This is hard. And unless it's causing you discomfort, there's no reason to be ashamed of what it looks like or to undergo expensive surgery to reshape it. </p><p>While there's no set number of vulva "types," there are many variations in the size, symmetry and color of a person's labia (or lips) and clitoris. Here's what your vulva might look like and why it's totally normal. </p><h2>Is my vagina "normal"?</h2><p>Each vagina is unique and specific to every person. So there's not necessarily a "normal" vagina shape or standard way your vagina should look. </p><p>"You know the saying, 'No two snowflakes are exactly alike?' Well, the expression could just as easily refer to the vulva and vagina," says Ross. </p><p>"The labia, or lips - which is where most of the issues are for the majority of female patients - vary from person to person. In fact, even the separate parts of the same vagina are not exactly the same ... this is completely normal; different is normal," says Ross. </p><p>Pubic hair is also a normal part of having a vagina. The issue isn't exclusive to any one spin bike brand, but Peloton's popularity and online communities make anecdotes from its users especially salient.  </p><p><a href="https://doctors.umiamihealth.org/provider/Katherine+A+Amin/1153615">Dr. Katherine Amin</a>, a urologist at the University of Miami Health System, told Insider that she hasn't seen an uptick of cycling-related conditions in her practice, but "it is a concern with the amount of in-home cycling being done."</p><h2>Avid cyclists tend to have more UTIs, but better overall sexual function, than swimmers and runners</h2><p>A <a href="https://www.jsm.jsexmed.org/article/S1743-6095(18)30119-X/fulltext">2018 study</a> including over 3,000 women in five countries looked at the likelihood of gynecologic and urinary issues among cyclists, runners, and swimmers. </p><p>The results were mixed. "High-intensity" outdoor cyclists, or those who had cycled for more than two years and rode an average of 25 miles at least three times a week, reported better sexual and urinary function than swimmers and runners.</p><p>However, both low- and high-intensity cyclists reported more UTIs, genital numbness, and saddle sores than the other athletes. It's unclear how the results would translate to indoor riders. Likewise, UTIs can arise from bacteria around the entrance to the vagina and urethra, she said.  </p><p>The saddle's constant pressure on the vagina can lead to skin cysts, people who shave their pubic hair may be especially prone to saddle sores, and heavy sweaters may experience heat rash, especially if they don't change clothes soon after, Ross added.</p><p>Some riders might get "prickly heat rash," or a stinging rash with small itchy bumps, if sweat traps bacteria on the skin and blocks the sweat glands, she said. </p><div type="image" title="Peloton" height="2000" width="3000" msid="80659520" hostid="261"></div><h2>Invest in padded shorts and shower after riding</h2><p>You don't have to give up your spin bike if UTIs and other vaginal health issues are plaguing you. </p><p>First, gear up.</p><p>"Wearing clean sportswear to allow your skin to breathe is an easy remedy in lessening the sweat, bacterial, and foul odor build-up while working out," Ross said. Amin recommends wearing padded bike shorts, too. </p><p>Since the bike seat's position may contribute to issues like numbness and saddle sores, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?v=774167669384148&amp;ref=watch_permalinklink">make sure it's properly adjusted</a> to your body, and considering spending more time climbing out of the saddle. </p><p>After your ride, shower off, using antibacterial soap around your vulva, and change into clean clothes quickly. If you can't, Ross recommends giving your pelvic area a quick clean with a vaginal hygiene wipe. </p><p>She also suggests avoiding long rides during your period, since a tampon's string can cause irritation to the vaginal tissue. </p><p>For new riders, Amin said slowly increasing your time on the bike can help your body adapt. Staying hydrated is also key to preventing UTIs, and people prone to them can take a cranberry supplement daily, she said. </p><p>If you do get a sore, Amin recommends taking at least a week off the bike. Anyone concerned they have a UTI should contact a healthcare professional. Left untreated, the infection can lead to serious kidney complications. </p><p>Any unidentifiable pain, discoloration, or skin changes should be checked out too, since some cycling-related ailments have similar symptoms as sexually-transmitted infections and other illnesses.  </p><p>"The benefits of cardiovascular exercise has long-term positive effects on your heart, brain, and mood," Amin said. "I encourage everyone to be active, and in-home cycling is a very safe method given the risks associated with COVID in other settings."</p>

People are reporting spinning-related UTIs and yeast infections - but they're not inevitable

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The official Twitter account for the US <keyword id="15350" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Army">Army</keyword>'s Fort Bragg posted some thirsty tweets at an <keyword id="9183253" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="onlyfans">OnlyFans</keyword> <keyword id="170939" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="sex-worker">sex worker</keyword> in October.</li><li>Now that sex worker has become one of OnlyFans' top performers.</li><li>She told Insider she earned about $7,000 a month before the tweets but had since been on track to earn $35,000 a month.</li></ul><p>"Holy s---, this is the largest US military installation," an OnlyFans adult-content creator said to herself on October 22, moments after one of her Twitter posts went viral.</p><p>The sex worker, who asked that we refer to her by her stage name, Quinn Finite, was in the car with her boyfriend when she started receiving hundreds of alerts after the official Twitter account for Fort Bragg, the home of the US Army's Airborne and Special Operations Command, had replied to her tweets with sexually charged messages in public view.</p><p>The elite Army base's Twitter account commented on her pubic hair and reacted to one of her nude images by suggesting that Finite and the Twitter account should engage in sexual acts.</p><p>As the minutes passed by, hundreds of Twitter users began noticing the sexually charged tweets and replying back with jokes. The installation responded roughly an hour later by claiming its account was compromised by a malicious entity.</p><p>"As many of you may know, there were a string of explicit Tweets from our account this afternoon," a representative for the North Carolina base said in a statement. "This was not the work of our admins. Our account was hacked. We apologize to our followers."</p><p>The next morning, the XVIII Airborne Corps apologized for its earlier statement and identified an "administrator" as the source of the tweets. "Appropriate action" was underway, the unit said.</p><p>Fort Bragg's official Twitter account was taken down the same day and remained offline as of Tuesday.</p><h2 style="text-align: left;"><div type="image" title="Navy SEAL" height="999" width="1999" msid="79272427" hostid="261"></div>'Just some guy saying some horny things to me'</h2><p>In Montreal, roughly 900 miles north of the military base, Quinn was frantically sending messages and asking for advice from fellow sex workers in a private group chat.</p><p>"I was just like, 'Oh, ok. It's just some guy saying some horny things to me," Quinn recalled to Insider. "It's like nothing too different — I get these types of comments every single day, hundreds of them, so I didn't really pay attention to it until I reopened my phone again and had hundreds of notifications."</p><p>Quinn supported herself by modeling, but when the coronavirus pandemic hit she no longer felt comfortable going to photoshoots. She spent a couple of months deciding whether to start an OnlyFans, which she describes as a "paid Instagram."</p><p>The sex work platform allows "fans" to tip content creators or subscribe to their videos and photos on a monthly basis. After learning how to market herself and investing in camera equipment, Quinn began producing adult content on OnlyFans in May.</p><p>Pay-per-view adult subscription sites like OnlyFans have grown in popularity, particularly during the pandemic. According to an Insider <a href="https://www.insider.com/people-are-creating-onlyfans-accounts-after-losing-jobs-during-pandemic-2020-6">report</a> in June, an average of 200,000 users signed up every day between March and April.</p><p>Monthly fees, which are determined by the content creators, range anywhere from $3.99 to $50.00 a month. Quinn charges $8.99 for her fans.</p><p>"It's been great working from home and having that kind of freedom," Quinn said. Quinn was ranked in the top 1.2% of all content creators on the platform but is now in the top 0.14% of earners.</p><p>Prior to <keyword id="9499968" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="ft-bragg">Ft. Bragg</keyword>'s tweets, she was earning around $7,000 a month. Now, Quinn says, she's on track to $35,000 a month with around 4,000 subscribers.</p><p>"It was plenty to live off of, but now I kind of quintupled my income," Quinn said.</p><p>Quinn's subscribers were coming to view her content in waves. Screenshots of Fort Bragg's interaction with Quinn were repeatedly shared on social media, prompting droves of subscribers in the following weeks. After a tweet containing the interaction went viral three weeks after the incident, she gained around 500 subscribers overnight.</p><p>"They kind of keep coming," Quinn said. "I thought it was over, but there's still waves. It's so interesting to see how the internet works that way."</p><p>"You can't even pay for this kind of promotion," Quinn said. Jo Munroe, an OnlyFans sex worker based in Northern-Ireland, said "everyone was just so happy for her."</p><p>"This industry can be quite cut-throat," Munroe told Insider. "And there's a lot of people who would be just like [out] for themselves. But whatever group that we've got is not like that at all."</p><p>"I would call it winning the lottery in terms of free promotion," she added. "As much as we try to promote ourselves, you can't gain that sort of traction unless something viral were to happen to you. What happened to Quinn was sort of a one-in-a-million chance. And honestly, I don't think it could've happened to a better person."</p><p>As for the identity of the unnamed "administrator" who published the erotic tweets, the US Army has remained silent. Quinn thanked the fan and said she hoped they "got let off easy."</p><p>"I honestly hope that he follows me on his personal account," she said. "I don't think he'll ever message me saying, 'Oh that was me,' but it would be nice to hear from him."</p><p>"I never expected to have a military audience," Quinn added. "It's funny to me."</p>
