The poll, which has been removed now had the following options – <ul><li>I can’t play BGMI on my low-end device. </li><li>I can play BGMI, but I’ll have better frame rates and performance in the Lite version on my device. </li><li>I spent money on the LITE version and want to transfer my data/inventory. </li><li>I like the maps and skins in the LITE version. </li></ul>PUBG Mobile players were able to transfer their data, including skins purchased by them to BGMI. PUBG Mobile Lite users haven’t been able to do so and will have to wait for the BGMI Lite version to launch. At the time the image was taken, the first option that users cannot play BGMI on their device had the most votes. Krafton has not made any announcements regarding the Lite version of Battlegrounds Mobile India. However, this poll on the official Discord server indicates that they are considering launching the game soon. Battlegrounds Mobile India Lite app may come soon, Krafton asks players why they want it

The low-end version of the <keyword id="6972359" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Battle-royale-game">battle royale game</keyword> PUBG called Lite is officially closing down on April 29. <keyword id="6788541" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="pubg-lite">PUBG Lite</keyword> was introduced in 2019 for entry-level mobile devices. The Indian government banned both <keyword id="6409600" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PUBG-MOBILE">PUBG Mobile</keyword> and PUBG Mobile Lite on September 2 last year. The news of PUBG Lite's shut down was confirmed by the developers <keyword id="10155974" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="krafton">Krafton</keyword> via a message on its official website. "We are deeply grateful for the passion and support from the astounding number of PUBG Lite fans that have been with us. During the strenuous times of the Covid-19 pandemic, we hope that PUBG Lite was able to provide our fans a fun way to stay safe," the developer said. "Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to close service after much deliberation and the time has come for our journey to end. We regretfully inform you that service of PUBG Lite is scheduled to end on April 29th, 2021 (UTC)," the company added. PUBG Lite Facebook will be open even after the game service termination until further notice. "We would like to convey our sincerest apology as well as our deepest appreciation to everyone. We truly hope you have enjoyed your time with us and please look forward to our future endeavours," the developers said. PUBG Lite was among one of the most popular games of the early pandemic months. The game was banned under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act in India. PUBG Corporation later announced that they were withdrawing their partnership with Tencent, and will work with the Indian government to look for a quick resolution. PUBG Lite to officially close down globally on April 29

<keyword id="6409600" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PUBG-MOBILE">PUBG Mobile</keyword> and <keyword id="6788542" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="pubg-mobile-lite">PUBG Mobile Lite</keyword> will no longer work for gamers in India starting from Friday, the company has announced. <keyword id="6151051" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tencent-Games">Tencent Games</keyword>, that owns the mobile game, said on <keyword id="6354576" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="facebook">Facebook</keyword> that it "deeply regrets this outcome" and thanked PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite fans for their support in India. The company said on Thursday that "protecting user data has always been a top priority and we have always complied with applicable data protection laws and regulations in India. All users' gameplay information is processed in a transparent manner as disclosed in our privacy policy". The announcement came on the back of the Indian government's decision to ban PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite on September 2. The game was banned under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act. <keyword id="9900533" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="pubg-corporation">PUBG Corporation</keyword> recently announced that they are withdrawing their partnership with Tencent, and that they will work with the Indian government to look for a quick resolution. PUBG game, which has more than 600 million downloads and 50 million active players globally, has nearly 33 million users in India. PUBG Mobile saw a global revenue gain of $1.3 billion (roughly Rs 9,731 crore) in the first half of this year, bringing its lifetime collection to $3 billion (nearly Rs 22,457 crore) with the highest number of downloads in India which ranks at the top with 175 million installs as people stayed home owing to the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns. Additionally, the Indian gaming company nCore announced indigenous multiplayer action game FAU-G to fill the void of PUBG Mobile. FAU-G is slated to launch next month. PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite cease operations in India just ahead of Halloween

The apex body sought an explanation from the ministry on how PUBG is available to be used by minors. This letter comes after the news that a 16-year-old boy from Lucknow shot dead his mother allegedly for trying to prevent him from playing the online video game PUBG, according to police. In 2019, a 15-year-old boy from Bhiwandi in the Thane district of Maharashtra allegedly killed his elder brother for scolding him over playing PUBG Mobile on his phone. Back in 2020, the Union government banned 118 Chinese applications including PUBG Mobile and its other version PUBG Lite. The government said these apps were prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India. The chief of the child rights body, Priyanka Kanoongo wrote a letter to the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in which she asked, "Why is the game available despite having been legally blocked in the country?" Further, she also added, “It is requested that the commission may be informed regarding action taken in such incidents and be provided with a list of such games which are being used by minors, along with their regulating bodies and regulating mechanism, within 10 days of receipt of this letter.” The NCPCR has also written a second letter to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), asking them to explain the current status of PUBG.  Clamour for a wider ban In the one year that PUBG has been in the India, Indian users have spent over $19.65 million on in-game purchases, according to a KPMG report. But, its popularity hasn’t been without consequences. As recently as February, the IT Minister of Goa called the game ‘demonic’ asking for laws to restrict its use in the southern state. Even in Kashmir, the Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) appealed to parents and teachers to keep kids away from PUBG after students didn’t perform well in their 10th and 12th board exams. The Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) in Tamil Nadu has already banned the game in the boy’s hostel because it was ‘spoiling’ the entire atmosphere. Students reacted on Twitter stating that the ban was creating ‘inhumane college conditions’.

Faced with ban threats, PUBG is trying to placate Indian parents and the government

Player Unknowns Battlegrounds, PUBG, is a popular videogame that has children addicted across the world. However, the violent character of the game has been a huge point of debate. Introduced in early 2018, <keyword id="6409600" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PUBG-MOBILE">PUBG Mobile</keyword> has become a pop culture phenomenon. The game had hit <a href="https://www.timesnownews.com/technology-science/article/pubg-mobile-india-series-2019-how-to-register-last-date-for-registration-rs-1-crore-prize-money-and-more/352103" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">200 million downloads</a> mark in December last year. The concern has now been escalated to the highest level in India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a jibe at the online multiplayer battle game developed and published by PUBG Corporation, a subsidiary of South Korean video game company Bluehole, funded by Chinese technology investor, Tencent. Speaking to children and parents on a scheduled annual conversation-- called Parisksha pe charcha or discussion over exams-- preceding the exam season in India, PM Modi had words of caution. “We need to ask ourselves — is technology turning children into robots or making them more human?” Modi said. The prime minister’s rhetoric was in response to a question from the mother of a ninth grader. Madhumita Sen Gupta from Assam, who lives in Delhi, said, “Earlier he (son) was good in studies but now he is too distracted by online games.” The reference to PUBG was one that the prime minister initiated. “I hold technology in very high regard. But every thing has two sides,” the PM said, adding, “If technology is narrowing us and our thoughts, it will be a big setback. Technology should expand our horizons. To laugh and play in open grounds is very important.” He had advice for the parents too, “Parents and teachers must take interest in the evolution of technology and ask children. It will make children feel comfortable in seeking help.” PUBG was <a href="https://www.digit.in/gaming/china-approves-release-of-80-new-games-but-leaves-out-pubg-mobile-developer-tencent-report-45561.html" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">banned</a> in China in December 2018. Tencent's PUBG influence on India When PUBG Mobile first launched in 2018 for Indian users, it took the country by storm. Not just in terms of people rushing to download the game, but there were telltale signs of the culture itself all round — from <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynVWWMwPqUs">PUBG-themed restaurants</a> to the game’s signature level-three helmet sold at thrift shops. Most gamers were relieved when the game’s name was absent in the first list of banned apps that India <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/apps/news/checkout-the-name-of-the-chinese-banned-apps-in-india/articleshow/76696132.cms">released on June 29</a>. This was after the Galwan Valley border skirmish with China, where 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives, and there was an undisclosed number of casualties on the Chinese side. <ul><li>Tech companies are launching 'lite' versions of their apps to bridge the gap between internet penetration and internet speeds in emerging markets like India. </li><li>'Chrome Lite Pages' and 'Firefox Lite' are two of the most recent 'lite' features to enter the Indian market. </li><li>The problem of slow internet speeds due to network congestion isn't a problem that's specific to India but other populous countries around the world as well. </li></ul>Latching onto bandwagon of 'lite' apps being introduced into the market, Google and Firefox <a href="https://blog.chromium.org/2019/03/chrome-lite-pages-for-faster-leaner.html">launched</a> the light versions of their mobile web browsers on Wednesday in India.  The 'Firefox Lite' browser is only 4MB to download — less than 10% the size of other browsers. 'Chrome Lite Pages', on the other hand, is more of a built-in feature of the original Chrome browser. The app is still 54MB to download, but Chrome optimizes an HTTPS page and only the URL is shared with Google. It should be noted that Google already has a 'Data Saver' feature in Chrome that the company claims reduces data usage to upto 90%, helping pages load twice as fast.  The introduction of 'lite' apps in emerging markets like India is about capturing the 627 million users that are expected to be online in India by the end of 2019 <a href="https://www.adgully.com/ads/Internet-in-Indic_2017_Final.pdf">according</a> to a Kantar IBM Report. And, tech companies aren't only looking at browsers that looking to bridge the gap between internet speeds and internet penetration. Gaming giants are also launching a 'lite' versions of their game — like the Tencent-backed PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) launched a 'lite' version of their game in February that takes 10 time less space than the original game. Even TikTok, a social media platform that's recently garnered popularity in India, has a 'lite' version of its app in the Play Store. <ul class="summary-list"><li>On June 29 <keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> banned 59 Chinese <keyword id="6354741" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Apps">apps</keyword> including video app <keyword id="6762469" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="TikTok">TikTok</keyword>, which is wildly popular in India.</li><li>On Monday, the Indian government banned a further 47 apps which were clones that allowed people access to the previously banned apps.</li><li>It also published a list of 275 more apps it's considering banning.</li></ul>Last month India banned 59 Chinese apps including the wildly popular TikTok, citing a need for "data sovereignty."Now the country has booted a further 47, and is reviewing 275 more for potential bans.The 47 apps which have been freshly banned were primarily clones or variants of services like TikTok per <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/pubg-alibaba-xiaomi-to-be-banned-india-prepares-list-of-over-250-chinese-apps-1704814-2020-07-27">India Today</a>. One of the banned apps was called "TikTok Lite."Punit Agarwal, head of the Delhi BJP's IT and social media cell, confirmed the news on Twitter, writing: "Govt of India bans 47 more Chinese apps which were variants and cloned copies of the 59 apps that were banned in June. These banned clones include Tiktok Lite, Helo Lite, SHAREit Lite, BIGO LIVE Lite and VFY Lite. Also included on the list is Resso, a music streaming app owned by TikTok's parent company ByteDance.The initial <keyword id="6354651" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="ban">ban</keyword> on Chinese apps came into force after a flare-up in geopolitical tensions between India and <keyword id="1334" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="China">China</keyword> following a skirmish in the disputed territory of Ladakh in northern India.India isn't the only country that clamping down on Chinese apps. Pakistan last week issued a final warning to TikTok, citing complaints about "immoral content." Earlier this month Pakistan also placed a temporary ban on PUBG, saying it had also received complaints that the game was "addictive, [a] wastage of time and poses serious negative impact on physical and psychological health of the children."The Trump administration has also made noises about a potential TikTok ban. Secretary of State <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/pompeo-says-us-certainly-considering-banning-tiktok-fox-news-2020-7">Mike Pompeo said on July 7 the US is "certainly" considering banning TikTok</a> over privacy and national security concerns. A day later President Trump said he was thinking about banning TikTok as <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-considering-banning-tiktok-2020-7">a means of punishing China for outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic</a>.
